This is the closest we have to an official unofficial Sonic game. It's that good. Welcome to my review of Sonic Triple Trouble's 16-Bit fan remake! Download here: gamejolt.com/games/sonictripl...
This game is so good and thought out, they even made a toggle to let you decide whether the purple shooting guy is named Nack or Fang. That is very much appreciated.
Thanks for playing my game! Glad you had fun! Several bugs in this video were fixed about a week before you uploaded but I know making videos like this takes time, it's all good. XD Hope to see yall again for my next game.
@@NoahNCopeland if these kids comment on gamejolt for an android port one more time, its getting really annoying I'm starting to hope that the android port is cancelled too much begging tbh
@owendinostudios1200 Metal Overlord didn't transform with the chaos emeralds though, Metal just up and decided to merge himself with parts from the ship they were on
Unpopular opinion: I really really REEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY want one of those fan game creators to remake Tails' Adventure. That game took as much potential as possible making a game highlighting Tails' strengths as a mechanic and genius with it's light metroidvania style and slower pace very different to Sonic. It's one of my favourite classic Sonic games but there's so much room for improvement. Item management and usage could be better being a prime example.
You know, I agree. All these remakes have Sonic in it and usually Tails as the sidekick. So it would be nice for Tails to get a remake of his adventure
Well it’s probably not gonna happen because Noah Copeland(the creator) said he’s done with sonic and is gonna work on his own game with original characters
Those dark-looking emeralds weren't the negative energy, they were copies. This is alluded to in Egg Zeppelin Zone, where the screen says "Copy" over the dark emerald. And the fact Metal Sonic took 8 of them to become Rocket Metal was a nice touch. (In Fighters, there were 8 for some reason.)
both of you are right. they are copies but Eggman only figured out how to copy the negative energy, as the negative energy pattern was more readily duplicatable. this also mentioned in the tie-in comic for the game.
@@NoahNCopeland OH SHIT IT'S THE MAN HIMSELF also do these "negative emeralds" have a name? i just thought of literally calling them "Nega Emeralds" cause i think that sounds awesome
If you told 13 year old me that this was Sonic 4, he'd believe you. Great classic Sonic game that I highly recommend checking out. Stands right up there with 2 and 3 in terms of sheer quality. Hope the extra characters get touched up a little in patches, particularly Fang cause some of his stages are just bugged at the start. Best fan game of the year probably. It's been a great year for classic Sonic fans all things considered.
18:18 this was literally me on my first playthrough. i did this exact same thing and my time was at 6 minutes. there were no checkpoints in sight until conveniently right after that segment
This game is arguably one of the best remakes I've played in a long while, and it hits every single button for me to make it one of Sonic's best. And with Fallen Star being released right next to it and Frontiers getting closer and closer to release with promise, this looks to be a great year for Sonic.
Yeah and if frontiers sucks then we still have spark the electric jester 3 (already came out this year) and project: rascal (in development, will probably come this or next year)
@@mr_indie_fan With how promising frontiers looks as of recently, I actually have decently high hopes for sonic this year (origins was a bit of a let-down but thankfully nothing too disappointing)
@@bickuribox12 I sorta went in blind. I saw GameXplain's 40 minute showcase of the game and they made it all the way to meta junglira, but there aren't really any spoilers there i don't think so it still totally caught me off guard when were actually fighting Metal Sonic the whole time! It was a great plot twist. That's what I call good storytelling.
I just played this, after playing the 8-bit original a couple of months ago. This version is better, and not just because the game engine is better; the overall level design is superior. The Game Gear Tidal Plant and Meta Junglira Zones in particular were just painfully irritating. I don't think Aspect were very good at making Sonic levels generally (I preferred Ancient's levels), so Noah's remake addresses many of the major problems I had with the original. Regardless of this being a remake or even a fan game, it is a very good game in its own right.
Had a feeling this would be the next game you'd cover, lol. And yeah, it's genuinely an incredible experience. So much time and love went into making this game (I think about 5 or so years?), and it shows from the very first opening stage. The fact that fan games have begun reaching levels of polish and quality that rival even official game releases says so much about Sonic fans passion for the series. Bravo to everyone involved 👏🏽
I've been watching these videos for some time. It makes me happy that despite all the anger, sadness, hate and regret the franchise may have upon itself, there are some people that actually take time to get to know, understand, enjoy, and love Sonic (My stance aligns with yours on Forces!).
So Rocket Metal's second phase in Final Trouble is essentially Nightmare Power Orb's attack patterns from Kirby's Adventure. Shoots fireballs straight, shoots a spread shot of fireballs, shoots three lanes of bigger fireballs, does a screen-sweeping back-and-forth tackle to try and damage you... even the stage is the same, but inverted, as Sonic and Metal are descending to the ocean, but they don't take their final phase to the moon, and actually fight along the sunset of the sea.
As a Sonic 3 fan, Sonic Triple Trouble 16 Bit was a fucking love letter. I love Mania, but I would be so interested to see what these guys would've made if they were in charge of it. The level design is just..... so good.
In the original Triple Trouble on the Game Gear, the super peel-out gave you the same speed burst as the spindash. The difference was that you got like two seconds of the invincibility sparkles... It was honestly better to just spindash. That said, the input was Up+Jump which was identical to how you made Tails fly (not by pressing Jump in the air), so it felt cohesive given that both characters had an Up+Jump input. On another subject, I find it ironic that you enjoyed the icy area of this remake. That's great news, because the Game Gear's version was actually my *least* favorite zone. It had lots of lag-inducing elements, few places to move at full speed, and an uphill auto-scroller leading up to the boss...
I don’t say this lightly or often, but this is *literally* the perfect Sonic fan game since it captures the spirit of the classic series one to one. I also like how it was slightly retconned to be more of a direct sequel to 3 & Knuckles like how Sonic CD is a more direct sequel to Sonic 1. Honestly, the only thing that’s missing for me now in terms of content here is Amy, Mighty, and Ray as playable characters, especially since those three are being added into Sonic A.I.R. by modders and that Amy is being modded into Sonic CD Complete (Sort of), Sonic 1 Forever, and as a result probably Sonic 2 Absolute. Add in Mighty, Ray, Metal Sonic, and Fang/Nack into all those games as well and the whole main playable cast is done, which is crazy. But anyways, content addition wants aside, you could put this game on a SEGA Genesis cartridge and could convince so many people that this is a 100% official game without even questioning it. It’s *frightening* how accurate it is not to just the original Triple Trouble, but just the Genesis style of Sonic games in general. Easy second favorite game for me right behind SRB2 and SRB2Kart, which isn’t exactly fair to compare to since it has endless mod support, is built upon a DOOM engine, and has been around for literally decades, but hey that’s just the kind of wizardry that the classic Sonic community is willing to go to. Had they not existed then Triple Trouble 16 Bit would’ve been an easy number one. I’m really curious to see how Sonic Galactic and X-treme will turn out in the future, they look great so far as well. I hope they exceed all expectations, because *damn* us classic fans are eating the whole damn buffet here, and we just cannot stop…
As someone who has played the original Triple Trouble a good amount, I think the fan game is very excellent complementary piece. Not an outright replacement since I do actually think the original game has some qualities that outshine the fan game, but the fan game is doing its own things and does a good amount of it very well in its own right. Here's to seeing some more polish to it!
@@Alexa_mapping It's not actually a Genesis game, just a game that looks like a Genesis game. It's completely free because it's a fan game, and you can play it on PC, and soon Android phones. Go play it, basically.
@@Alexa_mapping Apparently Apple is going to allow sideloaded apps on IOS soon, meaning you'll be able to install apps from places beyond the app store and an IOS port of this game is very likely now. It'll be a while, but you'll probably be able to play this game eventually.
There was something I always liked about Robotnik Winter. Even in the original, it was always one of the most fun levels I ever played. Plus, that name. Robotnik Winter. It's a futuristic mechanic frozen tundra. That and, you get to use snowboards at regular intervels.
I finished it last night, and as a fan of Triple Trouble, I think it's a great Sonic game. That boss music kicking in after Sonic gets slammed by the arm made me realize it was gonna be good.
I really appriciate the Special Stages in this game.... I tried playing Fallen Star, and the Special Stages in that game kinda killed my interest. Since they were just.... Really weirdly hard from the get go. (I still need to eventually finish it.... I just don't feel like messing with those stages....) But, I feel like the thing that makes these ones SO MUCH more beginner friendly is the retry system. Like you said, it's perfect. It gives you a reason to collect 1-Ups in the stages. (Fallen Star could REALLY have used this system too.... I feel like that game needed it much MUCH more difficulty wise. And the special rings being harder to find as well.) But yeah, this fan game.... A few bugs aside, is very much on par with the classic games. Seriously, it's really fun overall to replay even. (I DO wish the free play mode had an option to just keep going... would kind of make up for Fang and Metal Sonic not having story modes if I could just play all their stages back to back smoothly.)
While Mania was cool, it moreso felt like a "Sonic's Greatest Hits" Album for the classic series. This really feels like the true sequel to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and I couldn't be happier about it. Also its 10x better than Fallen Star fite me
Between Triple Trouble and Sonic Xtreme for SEGA Saturn [that sick SAGE 2022 demo that can run on real hardware], Fang has gotten more love in a month than he has since like 1996 I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE METAL SONIC'S FINAL FORMS WERE A REFERENCE TO THE SCRAPPED XTREME METAL DESIGN THAT'S SO COOL
such an underrated channel dear god your line delivery is great and very entertaining, actually kinda inspirational in the way you make these videos :) i look forward to more content mr bickuribox
As a massive fan of the original triple trouble, I think this game is awesome. My biggest problem with the game is that the pogo spring is only used once in the whole game, and it’s in the last 10 seconds of the secret zone.
the true final boss fight reminded me of the kirby adventure nightmare fight and that made me realize that despite being one of the sickest way to fight,it's somehow not used that much,or at least from what i've seen
Going on another marathon watch of your sonic videos while working is just perfectly calming- all the while getting chuckles here and there from your humor Love your vids man- I hope you keep at it cause you're one of my top favorite youtubers!
i’ve been watching your videos for so damn long man and i can’t tell you how happy i am to see how much success you’re having, and i hope you’re enjoying creating content again!
i have never played any sonic game ever besides the one that was on that one site filled with like 60 something flash games all in one window that you click into, and i just appreciate the love you have for these games and the fact that you can talk so long and make a 30 minute video of just you spilling random thoughts. this is my favorite kind of content, even if i dont know what the absolute *hell* is going on. i just like people ramblin xD
u never fail to entertain me. Im always just hoping that youll upload another video but also understand the time and effort u put into it and thats why it ends up coming out so perfect
I just recently stumbled onto this channel due to a recommendation from a friend and it has been a blessing. These Sonic fan games are nuts. I particularly like the usage of the Sonic 3 version of the Sonic sprite. The Mania sprite is really jarring for me but S3&K is my favorite platformer of all time so I'm definitely biased. I'll definitely have to give this one a go.
“You can retry special stages with an extra life. Finally, a system has been found.” Sonic Time Twisted who released way before TT 16 Bit: *Am I a joke to you?*
The bosses are references to the actual bosses from the OG Gamegear game. Great Turquoise had the giant Turtle. You used springs on the mini turtle bots and the air-spin move to hit it. Sunset Park had the train run. Locomotive was the boss like here. Meta Junglira had the snake. Its amazing they took the snake and made it themed into a snake temple. Robotnik Winter had the Giga Penguin that shot out penguin bots. Very similar here. Tidal Plant had you fighting Knuckles in a submarine. Was super easy to cheese as Tails, of course. Atomic Destroyer had Metal Sonic, a fake out with Nack/Fang, and then 4x phases of Robotnik. 1st was him on that pogo stick, then shooting fire, then shooting electrical balls, and finally the arena. This has been rather faithful. Triple Trouble also had you fight Nack at the end of most of the Special Stages. The Air Scooter also is quite faithful. You had the Pogostick, the Air Scooter flying about, the missile, and then the drill.
This is my first video of yours an must say I'm impressed with it all. Pacing, and timing, comedy and when to use it, audio seems to have no glaring issues, and a good fair review. I'll be subscribing, checking out some other videos and waiting for new ones!
the easter eggs are really cool too. If you're playing as knuckles and go the the outside of the airship and glide of then you eventually get to robotnick winter without finishing the level.
Triple Trouble 16-Bit: *adds Metal Sonic and gives Origins the finger* Sonic Origins 2023: *proceeds to add Amy in it's DLC and returns the gesture back*
I NEED TO SING THIS GAME'S PRAISES SOMEWHERE. This game is fantastic! The creator who made this should be really proud of himself for making something that battles the quality of Sega themselves. (I just finished my first playthrough with the good ending haven't delved into time attacking the game, knukles play through, fang the snipers and i haven't even found that extra stage yet so still a lot more to do.) It's time too replay this over and over.
I just played this fan remake, and as someone who played and loved the original game, and as someone who is just a Sonic nut in general…. This game is incredible. I’m amazed at how accurate the remake is to the original while also going absolutely nuts with new ideas. This is certainly a contender for one of my favorite 2D Sonic titles. It felt the same magic I felt when I played 3&k and Mania for the first time. And those two are my favorite Sonic games period… so yeah. I’m gonna give it some more time to cook, but I feel pretty safe in saying this is one of the best 2D Sonic games ever. My biggest complaint was how easy it was to get all the emeralds really early on. I appreciate not being able to go super until after you beat the final boss, but I found 1 Emerald in the first stage and then the rest in second. And I found about 15 more special rings by the end of the game (and it frustrates me that I couldn’t grab those for 50 rings which is one of my favorite things to do in 3&k and Mania). Other than that, my only complaints are just the glitches, but a simple patch could easily fix those up.
makes me appreciate the sonic.exe FNF stuff just bit more. Very good in depth review, i ended up watching to the end not knowing half the stuff your talking about.
Might as well toss in my own thoughts on the game. It's an amazing fangame and I'm split over if I like this or Fallen Star more. I do have a few criticisms, some that you mentioned, but some I disagree with. Let's get into them. - Metal as a playable character is a bit. . . underwhelming. His moveset is just a slower version of Knuckles' glide, which just feels a bit unoriginal IMO. Giving him a Light Speed Dash, an aerial thok or even the Maximum Overdrive would have been nice. Still, It's great that he's playable. - Do wish everyone can go super and not just Sonic and Tails. - The Knuckles & Fang fights are actually really fun IMO. Really like the third Fang fight and Knuckles' first fight. The second Knuckles encounter is mostly good, but him being in the background just stalls the fight. - No Super cancel or separate Super button. That definitively would have been appreciated. - Personally I like how you can get the amount of rings you need in Final Trouble. You can choose how hard you want the battle to be. - It does have the same problem as 3K does in it's levels: they're sometimes a bit too cramped. Atomic Destroyer act 2 in particular is extremely linear and not really fun, especially with the annoying autoscroller. A more Mania escq level design would be appreciated. That's all I really got. Still love this game despite the flaws. Edit: As of the recent update (1.7), some of my complaints are fixed. There's a seperate Super button and while Metal isn't 100% unique, he at least got a speed increase on his glide. That's nice. :)
Atomic Destroyer always confuse me in the original game it's an underwater base. in the new one it's a space station the eggman made which is weird since the death egg just got destroyed. I think Knuckles not being able to go super due to the plot
imo Sonic and the Fallen Star has worse level design but more style and better music. I appreciate both games for different things, am just glad we got 2 banger 2D Sonic games released so close to each other.
Hey, really good video. I really liked this remake, but I was worried video essays would be nothing but praise and refusing to get into the grittier details. I agree with a lot of your points here, and it's nice to see them formulated in a way I couldn't.
Every level in this game is similar to one or two levels from 3K Great Turquoise - Angel Island Sunset Park - Hydrocity without water Meta Junglira - Mushroom Hill, Marble Garden Egg Zeppelin - Flying Battery Robotnik Winter - IceCap Tidal Plant - Launch Base, Hydrocity Atomic Destroyer - Death Egg Purple Palace - Sky Sanctuary
25:23 I don't know if this is a refrence or not,but is it just me,or does that metal sonic drill attack remind me of how the Death Egg Robot (Sonic 2 Genesis/Megadrive)could launch it's hands when it lands back on the ground. It looks to me really similar. Anyway,Sonic Triple Trouble 16-bit is a great fangame and I enjoyed it a lot. It was Amazing and it looked visually outstanding for a fangame. Great video,by the way! Keep up the good work bickuribox12!!!👍 You are a 🌟⭐legend⭐🌟!!!
If it were up to me, I would've added Sonic Chaos' levels as well, in-between Zone 0 and Great Turquoise. For a long time, many thought that Chaos happened after Sonic 2, and before Sonic 3, or alternatively between CD and 2. Origins' animated cutscenes leave zero doubt, there's no room between the classics for other games to happen anymore. Chaos and Triple Trouble happen back to back, and in Japan, Triple Trouble was Sonic & Tails "2", with Chaos being the first, so it was always intended to be the & Knuckles to Chaos.
That's essentially remaking another 8 bit game. So just make it separate at that point. And Triple 16 Bit is mainly Noah Copeland's take on a 3&K sequel, a theoretical sequel if you will, but not claiming to be an actual one.
