It was released after Sonic Generations, right? I heard it was supposed to be a Crush 40 tribute to all the fans that have been with them from the start.

It IS a tribute to the fans, I just think that with all those mentioned references and the sheer existence of Generations only supports the assumption that this song could be meant to be the main theme of Generations at some point, especially if we consider the fact that Generations, as a finished Sonic game doesn't have a main theme in the first place.

***** That was something that peeved me off with Generations. Call it stupid, but I was really hoping for a theme. Why? Because most -- Sorry, _all_ Sonic games have had great themes. Even if you go back to some of the originals. Who doesn't like the original Sonic music from Sonic The Hedgehog 1991? It's quite catchy and it probably brings back some good memories from those of you lucky enough to have been born in that era. I'm 14, so I wasn't lucky enough to have been able to grow up with a Mastersystem and whatnot, so I didn't play the original Sonic game until around 2008. I think the Green Hill Zone Theme is more recognised theme song like song for Sonic The Hedgehog 1991. I have played it and completed it but not to the point of collecting all the chaos emeralds. Anyway, those themes were still quite good, if you want to call them themes. I suppose for the original Sonic The Hedgehog game from 1991. So, all those games, SA, SA2, Sonic Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog (if you count that), Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 (C'mon, all the versions of His World are quite good. Both the Crush 40 versions and both the Zebrahead versions are very good), I think next was Sonic and The Secret Rings (Though that wasn't Crush 40, it was still a good theme IMO. Maybe not as good as other themes IE His World or I am All of Me, but you get the point), Sonic And The Black Knight (I'm not sure if Knight Of The Wind or Live Life was the theme, but regardless both are great songs. If I recall correctly, With Me was not only Merlina's Theme (I think she was called Merlina. I haven't played Sonic and the Black Knight in quite a while), but the official closing theme, and that Knight Of The Wind was Sonic's Theme and Live Life was the Theme, but again, I'm not 100% sure and feel free to let me know!), but then there's Sonic Generations; A great game, but lacking in a, quote-on-quote, "_Official Theme_". You _could possibly_ argue that the jazzed up version of the original Sonic The Hedgehog 1991 Game Theme Song was the "_theme_" for Sonic Generations. I would have liked to have seen maybe this song or some other Crush 40 song (IE the 2010 Sonic Boom by Crush 40 & Cash Cash), but sadly this was not the case. I didn't play Sonic Lost World and I do not EVER intend on playing Sonic Boom or any other Sonic game that uses those new IMHO utterly terrible character designs for Sonic and Knuckles. I liked it that they just made sonic a bit taller and a darker shade of blue. I really hope they don't stick with that design, and if they do I hope at the very least they don't change any other characters IE Dr. Robotnick/Dr. Eggman, Shadow, Rouge, Takali, etc.

sonic2kk sonic boom is going to be a separate "subseries" I think it was called. so sonic boom and its cartoon/merchandise will have those designs but main sonic games will keep his current design.

The most elusive reference was probably "who I am with you" "I am" refers to I AM ALL OF ME, the main theme of Shadow the Hedgehog. BUT "who I am" is the name if the MAGNI-FI song that was originally going to be the main theme of Shadow the Hedgehog.

They even mentionned the name of their own band in a slightly modified way : "Crushing 40 all the time" and they did a good job on actually putting all these references in the music It reminds me of the good ol' epic days.

Forces would work perhaps work. They're mostly saying Generations because this came out in 2012. Literally one year after the 20th Anniversary and Sonic Generations came out. Also, Forces didn't exist yet.
