The very best thing about watching reaction videos like this is seeing the power of music in action, and how it can truly connect us all. Seeing someone new to this music, coming from a whole other generation of music listeners, enjoying this incredible song - over 50 years old - and getting their mind blown just like mine was when this song first came out, well, its a wonderful thing. Shon, I wish you all the best as you discover more great music of all kinds - there is so much out there waiting!
Glad you enjoyed it, man. I loved what one of the guys in Yes (I forget who) said - something like 'Yeah, there are a lot of notes in our songs, and when we play them live, you have to play ALL of them'.
I've been listening to YES for 50 years now and to me they're next level in all their songs Amazing stuff. Any song you try from them will never disappoint.
Loved your reaction to this!! Someties I think I get more excited at the anticipation of your reaction to a really epic song/band than I do to any other reactors!
Aw, Shon!!! Great reaction! I ❤️ how you get it and get into it!!! My reaction: I was driving to work in ‘72 and this song came on the radio….I had to pull over I was SO blown away. I went to the record store to buy the album right after work. Yes has been a favorite ever since. ☮️❤️
Genius musicians creating epic masterpieces. But I’m sure any fan of the original Yes will agree that their greatest and deepest work was Pre-Owner of A Lonely Heart.
Mr Chris Squire on bass... Rickenbacker 4001, I believe? He was a HUGE influence on me in my younger years... one of the reasons why I learned to play the bass myself. Those LINES!!! 🎸🎶 👍🏾
Welcome to "Progressive Rock". Keep your hands and feet inside the car at all times... it's going to be a bumpy ride!! LOL! All of the tempo changes, and super involved instrumentation are hallmarks of Prog-Rock. You'll see a lot of it with bands like Rush, King Crimson, Kansas, Dream Theater and so many more. It's a deep rabbit hole brother.
Yes, I agree. There's so much going on, I think many people overlook Bill Bruford's contribution. His weird drumming is subtly holding this complex piece together. Plus, amazing that Roundabout is now over 50 years old!
Ladies and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. Wonderful reaction to a song I've been dancing to for 52yrs. Enjoy your Yes journey. A song called Yours Is No Disgrace is a song for the Vietnam vets.🙏🍁
I'll make this simple: 1. Roundabout 2. Yours Is No Disgrace 3. Starship Trooper 4. Siberian Khatru 5. And You And I 6. Close To The Edge You've heard 1. All the rest are Must Listen YES Masterpieces. Then there's another dozen or so that are also masterpieces, or near-masterpieces. If you start out with those first 6, you will be blown away every time. They are ALL 🔥!
Yes are amazing, I saw them live and they were astounding. Another great reaction to the fantastic music of my youth. It is wonderful to see you enjoy this as much as I do even 50 years later.
Hey man, you certainly cheered up a snowy morning here in Scotland, where the mountains came out of the sky and inspired this track. Love your reaction. 😂
Saw YES first in 71 at 15 years old and that life changing experience made me an instant YES fanatic! Intricate, virtuoso and highly imaginative musicians here with the first commercially successful song because their record company sent an 3 mins. edited version to the radio stations but 70'sYES were never mainstream or compromised their need to always break ground and progress. ProgRock was known for it's virtuosity, various changes in chords, time signatures, moods, textures & rhythms & YES were THE BEST. BELIEVE IT OR NOT, this AMAZING song is just a BABY-STEP for YES. You've opened up A CAN of BADASS here!!!! This is just scratching the surface of a band that PUSHED the LIMITS of what was creatively possible in the 70's! To find this out then YOU MUST discover more music from these "GREATEST" ROCK musicians of ALL TIME!
Please LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE to this channel. It is always amazing to me how this young man gets ALL music. It is so refreshing to see now a days. Shon, I am so glad you enjoyed YES! As I mentioned before, they have an extensive library of music that I believe will amaze you. I look forward to your journey. ❤
Moog synthesizer in back of the keyboards. It's so intense if you listen to it on a pair or Altec Voice of the theaters on LOUD so you can feel it in your bones! Can you say Body Rush? I knew you could.
I seem to recall this from years ago, the song is about his commute from his house to the studio in the morning. He was inspired by a traffic circle, not something you see too much of in the US.
I remember when this first came out, it was one of the first songs over 3-4 min that was soo good, even AM stations played it in it’s entirety !! Just as good over 50 years later !!!
This came out in high school in man I had to learn that acoustic guitar intro, and so many people did. But the whole thing is a masterpiece obviously and I'm so happy you dug it but I would say to this day, still my absolute favorite part of all this is Chris Squire on the bass guitar. It just blows my mind every time I hear it even now. And I was a pretty good bass player for a while there but this still blows my mind.
I always enjoy your reactions but this one …1972. 12 years old. Still remember where I was when I heard this song for the first time. I’ve seen them in concert 14 times. I’m 64 and walk my dog to Close to the Edge EVERY day.
Love this tune, bought the album when it came out and learned to play this song. Roundabout was written by Steve Howe and singer Jon Anderson while on the road in Scotland. For the song's slower section, Rick Wakeman plays a Minimoog synthesiser and flute sounds on a Mellotron which he said gave the section a "Strawberry Fields mood". Apart from his Martin 00-18 Acoustic Guitar in the intro, Howe plays a 1961 electric Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster throughout the song. Check out 'I've Seen All Good People'or 'Owner of a Lonley Heart'. Cheers.
You've just fallen into the YES rabbit hole. It's impossible to escape now. "Yours Is No Disgrace" "Close To The Edge" "Sound Chaser" "Awaken" Be ready. Be very ready.
You cease to amaze me!! This is progressive rock, and I have a happy memory of me and my little brother playing this whole LP over and over while we decorated the Christmas tree one year. He loved music, but died from cancer when he was 24, and I was 25. Thanks for the memory💖
its physically hard to listen to yes, without a smile or bursting into laughter.insane levels of musicianship mastery.& their diversity is as wide as their imaginations.
I call YES my 'coffee-card band'... like those punch-cards you get at the coffee shop, _"Buy 5 coffees, get the 6th coffee for free!"_ , I paid to see them 5 times, and the 6th concert was FREE! ;-] Seriously, it was a free concert in Montreal in the late '90s, sponsored by Budweiser, I think. Just looked it up... Concerts Wiki: _YES - June 19, 1998 Island Park, Montreal, QC (Megashow Budrock, with Okoume and Alan Parsons)_ Indeed, you read that correctly, one of the opening acts was Alan Parsons!!! It was an amazing event!
So cool that younger people are digging this music. It makes me much more open-minded to music of your generation. Good music is good music. Period. Rock on!
this has been in my playlist since mp3s were invented, in my CDs before that, cassettes before that, and LPs before that. one of my all-time favorites, top 15 without doubt (outside of the entire Zeppelin catalog, which is a completely different list of its own, independent of and coming before all other songs--which start at #2 lol). this band is a major musical influence on countless others. Steve Howe is one of those guitarists on the top-tier lists. he's played some incredible solos in concert. takes your head on a long trip lol.
I would love to see how you react to the band Triumph. Unbelievable vocalist and head snapping licks. Never Surrender or Fight the good fight . Seriously…I think you will be impressed!
Heheh, remembering finding the EXACT spot on the floor to sit in front of the big old Decca Gram "stereo" (ie two speakers) for the sweet spot to get the full stereo effect of the Yes Album. Memories!!! Glad you love it, over 50 years ago, this was prog rock at its best. Even my teachers at my junior school didn't listen to them, but 8 year old me did. Thanks to my bros for my musical education...
Excellent reaction. It's great to see someone who appreciates the more sophisticated music. I do humbly request that you react the Heart of the Sunrise. I believe that you will see that song as the quintessential musical journey.
Hey Man check out the Hall of Fame Concert from 2017 where Yes was inducted and played Roundabout and others with Getty Lee from Rush on Bass😎I am a Musician and in the 70s I played Keyboards when this song cane out in 1972
The 60s (and into early 70s) provided us w a little talked about clash w (at the time) modern studies of popular music w individualistic and obviously classically trained composers. If there was a vein I'd like to see a reactor travel that would be it. Cause it bleeds over into the 80s and on to now. **req. Donald Byrd - Places and Spaces. But there really are so many. Cal Tjader, Leroy Hutson, I. Hayes, R. Ayers (60s? I think so) G. Clinton and were not even talking some of the heavy hitter instrumentalists that gave us repeatedly emulated and sampled sounds we'd come to take for granted. Tldr - keep it up shon 🗣!
The synth and keyboard as of today was not available in 1971. Rick Wakeman plays Hammond organ, grand piano, mini moog, harpsichord, and mellotron. Every new album including artist like Wakeman, George Duke, Brian Eno, Keith Emerson, brought new sounds to us, unheard so far! You should try some Zappa ... and Gentle Giant!
Yes is one of the best progressive rock bands from the 1970s. Progressive rock is the most interesting music genre. IF you like prog rock, you will get to know Yes very well.
YES is the greatest progressive rock band in my opinion. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them. Loads of greats including "Roundabout", "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "Close to the Edge", "Turn of the Century", "Starship Trooper", "Perpetual Change", "That, That Is", "The Revealing Science of God", "In the Presence of" lots more.
Yes Fragile was the first compact disc I bought way back in the 80s. Huge fan. Now you've got me thinking of Jethro Tull Shon, which is always good. Rick Wakeman: synth player, WAY ahead of his time.
Noice reaction, my man! Next Yes jam you need to hit up is I've Seen All Good People (which actually contains two parts, so make sure you get the version that is 6:55 long). Another mind blowing song.
Delve deep into the Yes world. Many more delights, all beyond the wildest dreams you can have, await ❤❤ Subscribed based on this. In all seriousness, I’d go straight to Close to the Edge. It’s their 18-minute progressive magnum opus but it’s a song that all humans need to hear, and as soon as possible in their lives ❤
