I love the publicity he’s getting. I think people are realizing he’s a cool dude, and the number of people who can’t separate the character from the player is diminishing

Sonix won my respect months ago. I don’t always agree with his style of play, but I’ve respected his skill, and ridiculous levels of focus for quite a while now.
@@lokks2130 That I dislike his playstyle. I'd assume it's more how Sonic has to play some matchups than it is Sonix wanting to play that way.... maybe. But that's where the respect for the focus comes in, because I'd never be able to play that slow no matter what character I played. I'd tilt myself before I tilt my opponent. Also how the hell does someone have a freudian slip while typing? I feel like you just wanted to use that for something. Lol

I love Sonix. His mentality is so good (especially when it comes to Steve and other hard MUs). I decided to take practicing more seriously because of his drive. The results are coming in and it's all thanks to Sonix!
I'm happy our strongest player is so smart. He sleeps well, eats well, and in matches I don't feel he's making continuous dumb moves or selling, like "aww man why'd you do that?" He's not secretly smart, while pretending to be dumb, he's obviously smart and thinks professionalism is valuable for winning. I feel secure getting behind that.
Happy birthday Sonix, congrats on your win and I hope to see you all in Japan soon. Enjoy that experience if/whenever you do go. I imagine traveling to other places is an awesome part of the experience.
I'm not going to lie, I used to dislike Sonix before I even really knew him as a player. I'm guilty of hopping on the bandwagon of hating on Sonic players, calling them "campers" etc. But part of maturing is realizing that he's a person, too, and an extremely respectable, hardworking one at that. He's put in the time and effort and made NA proud. I'll be rooting for Sonix from now on.

Leo very handily beat Muteace with Joker last time, I'm not really sure why he thinks the Byleth does better in the matchup. He's 0-5 in Byleth games against Muteace and 7 - 3 with Joker
In theory Byleth does well because of his range and ability to just stay out of peach’s burst range but the mobility of Joker does a lot in not getting hit in addition to his ridiculous hurtbox shifting
According to Mute himself, he said Leo just seemed off and like he didn't really wanna play. People thought Leo got Byleth locked last game but Mute said no and that Leo just decided to stay Byleth. It's ironic because Leo has always been the king of the mental game, unshaken but it seems he's taking to losses harder than before (tho idk, I don't know the guys so I could be talking out my ass). Hope it figures it out and decides to go crazy again.
sonix is such a goat 🙏 reminds me of leo in his personality, you love to see a humble and decorated true professional as your top representative, regardless of how you feel about his character. his skill is undeniable
Aye real talk I was not a fan of Sonix before this interview, but hearing about how much time, effort, and prep goes into his gameplay makes me seriously appreciate him as a player.
Congrats to Sonix for winning PP8. He knows Steve is great practice for improving mental patience, and that was important for Sparg0 and Sonix defeteing the best of Japan.
38:22 That whole conversation about Steve, generally sums up my my thoughts on Steve. You cant get good at the matchup if he's not there, so one you go to a tournament where Steve's unbanned, you're likely not prepared for the matchup. There's ways to deal with Steve, it's just that people are lazy about it.

Although I do agree Acola is probably the best player of the year, Sonix has been making grands or very least top 3 of every major he makes, and absolutely totalled the Japanese players this tourney. There’s not much players I think that can acc take games from him besides Light, Sparg0, and that Mii gunner player loll
He also probably has the best work ethic currently, only comparable to Esam. But he’s always practicing, always in the lab, grinding coinbox, etc. he has great work ethic, plays a broken character, and just destroyed our top 1 and 2 players in the world
Sonix is spot on about Japan being good because of them sticking to the gameplan. When in “war”, you can strive to be the best at every stat. OR you can put all your points in one slot and be the best at that. There is no weakness to being the best at everything but it takes longer to get there, so choosing a strategy wins now, but striving to better yourself will make you win in the end. This very fundamental is what makes counter picking a thing.

No VOD review? nnooooooooooooooooooo Well, the matchup I was hoping to see as a choice (which wouldn't get chosen anyhow), Neo (Corrin) vs Spargo, didn't come to pass since Anathema convincingly took Neo down and only reminded him of his ROB problem ;_; Instead we got good data on how to "git gud" from Sonix; study, study, practice, get a training mod (I still haven't done this), study and practice some more. And as a spectator I also enjoy hearing the community aspect in receiving help and feedback from others players in preparation. As well as Sonix freely giving feedback and advice to KEN. It really is a team effort, like so many other aspects in life to, become the best you can be. People don't get to the top alone. On the topic of Steve bans, if NA wants to say they're the best in the world; any Steve ban will backfire and only serve to hold the entire region back as it will enlarge the average player gap between the US and Japan. It's pretty clear mid level Japan >>> Mid level NA. In addition to Kaninabe, Hurt is also on the rise to reaching top level player status with not only having very competitive sets this past Port Priority but he came in with a win on Acola. We can't just keep relying on the old guard and need to put the pressure to cultivate mid and low level players so they can level up to the next status. This is similar to Gluto talking on Tweek Talks at one point in time about how happy he is to see Europe with Bloom, Luugi, MFA and others on the rise to give him (and Sisqui) more competition for them to improve. I think you guys, especially Sonix and perhaps get Spargo on board, should push Hbox to remove the Coinbox ban, PMLG be damned. Maister already mentioned these bans strip him of getting access to practice which he feels in bracket at Steve legal tourneys. How many others have this issue? @@lokks2130 He is. He played bad at smashcon, it happens. You can tell by him losing to Samus. Before smashcon he destroyed Quik, Sisqui and Teaser and then he randomly loses to a Samus thats no better at Sonic MU than Teaser and is at best as good of a player as the rest of these Samus'. He played horribly against ddee but has grinded the Pac MU since anyway
Sparg0 and Sonix against Acola and Miya. The former 2 win 4-0(each player from one region plays a set against the other 2). Aside from Acola and Miya the other 8 players are at best equal to NA's 3-10.
I personally wouldn’t use those words but if you have been here since a long time , especially smash 4 , Japan has won most crew battles and I mean a lot of them and back then , they were one of the best regions but not the best and their lineup wouldn’t consist of all top players at the time , so history shows they are favored, it’s like they go super saiyan in crew battles , so I won’t believe that statement ( which just shows confidence , I like it ) until it happens multiple times like Japan did it between games
Unified ruleset is needed, but I think he needs to be banned. But this is something either Nintendo has to come down and do, or TOs have to have some sort of council and come up with a unified ruleset, because its not just steve. Its stage list and everything 7 minutes vs 8 minutes etc
Maister avoids talking about Miya and dislikes Miya is crazy. Not being the best player of you character and disliking the new best player of your character, like you should be cheering for him, but it’s whatever Miya is and will be better than maister.

It would serve Maister well to swallow his pride here. KEN's collaborative relationship with Sonix manifested in him qualifying for Watch the Throne. Why not try to collaborate with Miya? You just interviewed the man who's challenging the #1 spot who talked about his collaboration and stating NA needs to accept feedback more. It would also serve as good motivation to practice Japanese; to benefit your career and rankings.

I imagine this is something like getting pulled in a sport and your backup goes in and starts dominating and even tho your teammates it's hard to root for them because that's supposed to be you.
