maybe the year at a glance is for writing out the months like a regular calendar

I think you are right, it just looks odd because you can date the boxes, but then not really write anything in them. But, yes, you could use it as a very large year-at-a-glance to maybe map out vacations or days off you plan to take throughout the year.

Thank you for the walkthrough. I am undecided on a planner. I ordered a very pricey homeschool planner last year and I was hopeful that I would like it because sooo many others loved it. I just don’t like it as much. So much in it that’s unclear how it is to be used. I was thinking of asking you to do a walk through of your Erin Condren planner. I get emails from them but the website to me is overwhelming. Like I really need a friend like you that I can tell them what I need and they have the patience to figure out all this for me and order 🙆🏾‍♀️

I will absolutely be doing a walkthrough of the new teacher planner when it comes out! In the meantime, I have several videos from the past years going through the planner and how I use it. If it’s mainly a homeschool planner, most people won’t use it 12 months so you could move some meal plan pages around

I do feel like the bulk of it is homeschool planning, but because of all the extra pages - home projects, shopping lists, monthly goals, meal plans, I think they are meaning it to be a full year planner perhaps to even use outside of homeschooling. Sort of like a "home binder" that also includes everything you need for homeschooling. As year-round homeschoolers, I appreciate that it is 12 months long, even if we don't necessarily "do school" every day of the year. It would also work for any planning from behind that you do, when you aren't actively planning homeschool curriculum, but are instead letting your child take the lead and just making notes of what they are working on throughout the week.

This looks really great. Coming from the Southern Hemisphere having a planner starting in January is great. My first thought was how neat it would be as a student planner, taking out meal planning, shopping list and house projects. I love the chore checklist. It looks a great layout for a student to plan their week and record trips, reading books etc.

That's a great idea! My older two do use academic planners, but I agree, this would work really well for a student planner.

Do your kids (specifically your oldest daughter) use a student planner? My twins are going into 8th grade next year and I am trying to teach them a little more independence as they get older. If they do, do you have a video on what they use?

Yes! My oldest uses an Erin Condren Academic Planner for homeschool planning. I have a walkthrough of last year's planner here - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BRXVxo-4yi4.html I have been writing my kids daily lists since they were very very little, so they expect a list. As they move into middle school, we go over the list together for the week on Mondays, and then they transfer what they need into the planner. I’m thinking of creating my own planner this year just using the Bookshark schedule and checking off what they did since it’s already written in. My girls are combined with my son being separate. I could just put them back to back in the planner. There’s space to add in math and any extras on the schedule sheet. Then I’ll coil bind it all together along with a year at a glance attendance sheet and the monthly calendars. It’s less expensive than spending $60 or so on a bought planner.

That's a great idea! I tend to be so all over the place and can't seem to be on the same week for everything so it gets too confusing 🤦🏼‍♀️ I'm pretty sure that Sonlight includes a blank schedule page with the instructor's guide that you can make copies of to use, as well as field trip logs and other things you could reproduce for your own planner. Another, very inexpensive option, is to just use a regular spiral notebook, write a checklist for what they need to do, and then that is it. It just depends on what you are looking for and what will work best for you. I mainly do weekly homeschool planning, and take each week as a completely fresh start instead of saying I am behind or ahead etc. It all seems to even out eventually. This planner is pretty economical (compared to other homeschool planners) at $27 for a full year of planning and access to extra pages if you need to print more.

Did you check out the printable yet? Last I looked they were formatted two per page which obviously isn’t right.

Hmmm...mine doesn't look like that. I have a PDF file with 10 pages of printables and one cover page, but they are all on individual pages.

@@Townsendhouse1 oh good! Maybe they fixed it. I’m still undecided if I will use it or not. I’m thinking I actually just need a notebook for my planning and the kids get planners. That will likely work best for us!

My order comes Monday, and I’ve been looking forward to seeing how the planner is laid out. I think I will rearrange the months when I put the planner together in a binder. I don’t start our school year in January either, so for that reason I’m glad the pages are loose. I am also wondering if Sonlight will have a new design each year, or if we can print replacement sheets indefinitely.

I'm not sure on whether or not they will be updated, but as far as the printables go, I would imagine you will continue to have access to these current printables indefinitely, but if they change the design or add more pages, you wouldn't have access to the new pages. You could definitely contact their customer service though! I'm not sure if they have mentioned anything with regards to that or not.
