I think a lot of people didn't, but if you read the background of their relationship Cher talks about the dark side and secrets not one wanted to see and believe. Everything was not what it seemed. But I still see what you mean they look picture perfect together :)
@@prettymessedup7644 @Pretty Messed Up *They actually Loved each other it wasn't an act.* They had issues because *Sonny was very Controlling* with a *bad Temper.* It was *_his way, or no way._* His true Character used to come out during _"certain"_ Interviews. He would try to *_Control what Cher discussed, would speak for_* Or *_about her_* like she wasn't there. He didn't like that Cher got MOST of the Attention from Audiences & Millions of Viewers _(brought ratings & Revenue$)_ and would downplay her role bringing up how shy she was back in the day. But he found out after she left him years later.
Sonny was not actually a bad person he just had a bad temper which of course everyone does and Cher well of course her ego, her personality was also the problem
I miss my mom too when I see this show! I was a little kid when we used to watch this show together. I had a crush on Cher because she looked a lot like my mom at the time. Mom died in unexpectedly in 1977 when I was only 7 years old and I still miss her and always will. I am just glad for these videos to bring back some good memories.
+Saigon1975 I miss my mom too. She went to heaven on 2014. But watching the Sonny and Cher videos, my memory goes back to the good old 70s. I used to watch the show with my mom. We liked all her gowns and songs. I was a teenager with pimples and long hair to my knees. I remember my mom saying that Cher was a beautiful lady. God bless your mom and continue staying strong. Our moms will always be in our hearts.
The used some of the same writers as the Smothers Brothers: Allen Blye, Bob Einstein and Steve Martin did some writing, as did Coslough Johnson (brother of Arte Johnson, who starred on Laugh-In)
You see it all the time in behind the scenes shows. They didn't write it, but the animosity was real. He was mad and she was pushing his buttons! Anyone who ever went through a divorce can tell!😮
I think Sonny was really insecure and learned the hard way of what life would be without Cher. She didn’t need him anymore for confidence and management and I believe they were able to treat each other better when they were divorced. Same situation with Ricky Ricardo and Lucille Ball. Both women were the head stars and the Men were the managers and backup entertainment. Hollywood is toxic for marriage.❤️🙏💕🙏❤️
They were separated at this time. They were only doing shows because of contractual obligations. He's even asking her to tone down on her dissing him. She's was with Greg Allman during this time. They were doing this act before the tv show. Thus, no writers were really needed except for the sketch pieces.
We loved this show when we were children, and we looked forward to seeing it every week (Mondays I think)! You can REALLY see that they loved each other!
Cher was and still is so talented and very beautiful. Sadly, early in career, people bashed her much like they bash the singers today. Whether it be her clothes, her hair, or just her style in general people complained. Even today, people won't shut up about her way of life.
I don't think that transgendered people can have babies. I think they become infertile after hormones therapies and surgeries. Many of the celebrity babies are adopted and I think some pretend to be pregnant and buy moonbumps for the photos.
+Lori Miller babies get their genes from other family members too, not just their parents. you know that, right? Cher's mother and sister were blonde with blue eyes, while Cher got her Indian ancestors genes. and plus, we don't know what Sony looked like as a child or what his family looks like. my dad has blue eyes, and none of his kids or grandkids got that gene except for his oldest granddaughter.
I remember watching this show when i was little..back then my mother looked very similar to Cher..i use to think that was my momma on TV..she still giggles when i mention it
I was only a little one when I watched Sonny & Cher. I recall some singing but never remember the comedy. This comedy routine was brilliant. The banter with the comedic put downs were brilliant, I find humor of such, the most unique kind of intelligence. 💡
I still love Cher even though I was born 1966 I heard music all of it and the Sonny and Cher show back in 73 when I was a kid 72 73 just watch it on the tube but I didn't know better still that's classic
They didn't act like they were getting a divorce but when I saw them you could tell Cher didn't want to be on the stage with Sonny. It showed really bad. When she sang alone you could really tell. Cher was do different singing alone. "Better" Her body was to die for. She could wear anything and looked like a million dollars.

And I think that she maybe (without surgeries) can be part of the eating years team (Sandra Bullock, Jennifer López, Jennifer Aniston, Anne Hathaway, Gwen Stefani) that they don't look like the normal people of their ages...
Sonny and Cher loved this show regardless of their divorce they made Television and Music History. Hate that Sonny died the way he did but they both brought music and laughter to TV.
Excellent clip. I love how Sonny was always willing play the fool & be the butt of every joke. He understood that that was what made the onstage chemistry between the two of them work.
Not alot of people knew Sonny was reading cue cards. Cher stated in her book that he wouldn't learn his lines. Also she designed some of the clothes she wore.
I watched this show back in 1979 on video tape when I was in iraq baghdad barely speak english at that time ,young at the age 17 years old ,I said to my family they will divorce .I don't know why I said that .I always have this in my memory ,your comment kind of encourage me to share this
I know. I was only 5 or 6 when this show started, so I didn’t see the undercurrent then, but now, when he said, “I made you what you are”, my eyebrows nearly merged with my hairline!
She was a very good actress in the films i saw her star in -- that amazes me when someone can be that versatile - sure she was a good singer but she acted as if she had trained in acting all her life - i remember seeing Art Garfunkel co-star with Jack Nicholson and Art pulled it off - he held his own on screen with one of the all time greatest film actors Nicholson -- as for Sonny he became a Congressman - incredible

The writers for these shows back then were brilliant and these two had the oerfect timing fir the jokes it never felt forced. Hats off to Sonny who was always okay to be the butt of a joke.
I saw them in Hollywoid on their ahow. She was so tiny and thin as a rail. She akways looks big on screen, but shes a tiny lady with lots of talent. He was very small but had a commanding air about him. He was practicing a sing they both sang in front of the audiance,,and he definitly was in charge. I loved their opening segment. I loved the chmestry between them. I believe that theirs was that once in a lifetime kind of love.
Sonny was know as wearing lifts. Cher is much taller then Sonny. I think he was 5' 5" and she is 5'8". On their show they were almost always the same hight (lifts). But in pictures and interviews you'll notice he is much shorter then Cher. I think I remember the media commenting/poking fun at Sonny for wearing lifts around Cher. I was a kid in the 70's and remember watching the show, and loving it.
