I have firsthand experience working at Petaluma Farms, and I can confidently say that Jordan and his family do not treat their livestock well. I have witnessed multiple occasions where I came across deceased chickens on the ranch, left there by their illegal workers. While some farmers may treat their livestock well, the Mahrts are not sustainable ranchers based on my personal experience. Steve (The owner of Petaluma Ranch) was unavailable for the interview due to his temper problem, which led him to allow his middle son (Jordan) to represent the business because of his negative attitude. Vote yes on J.
Wow! You can just slap 'multi generational' and 'family' in front of anything and it automatically makes it ok! Appeal to Tradition fallacies are back in style!
I drive past those red barns, pictured in much of the video footage, on my daily commute. I often see chickens from those barns outside in a grassy area surrounding the barns.
I remember the recent supply-chain panic during the destructive Covid lock down. I think it is wise to produce as much food as possible locally in Sonoma County. However, I believe animals need to be treated humanely. Smaller farms may be necessary to acheive that. Cow-death-camps like on I-5 are inhumane and should be illegal, especially in California.
This reporter should be ashamed of the lack of balance and complete information. ALL these farms are on land stolen from the native Americans. California submitted the treaties but DC never signed them, so the land was simply transferred from Mexico to non Indigenous people. NONE of these families lived here even 200 years. Three generations, or four, of torturing animals does not mean we have no choice NOW. If you want perspective, read, "A Time of Little Choice" by Milliken.
I will vote yes but with all the money behind no I don’t expect it to pass. I do see this as a Wake up call for traditional farmers and their current production methods/standards. I don’t think this concern is going away even if J falls.
It's not necessary in Sonoma County. We don't have factory farms. I'm not buying factory farmed food from far away because the local farms had to close
So you want the mega farms located elsewhere to provide the locals with farm food. Those mega farms who's practices often are much worse on the animals than family farms. Soylent Green is activists!
