Lol avoiding drama is literally impossible it’s on your TV it is on the radio it’s all over websites, apps, and of course the news...and if you have a job and friends you best expect it
My guess is he is still unemployed because he is only willing to settle for an executive/management position, which no one is going to give him now. He needs to accept he is going to be a worker and not a boss and move on.
+james barca He did mention he shows the chik fil a video at every interview. I mean, he shouldn't hide it but he can at least handle it differently. If he has changed, I would think he could mention that he was asked to leave. Why? Due to a lapse in judgment on social media which has taught me x, y, z (he would have to search deep and find the professional/personal growth, if any, he has gained). Then only go into detail as asked. Everytime he shows the video to a potential employer, it communicates that it is still something he has not come to terms with and his same lack of judgment which led him to berate that chik fil a employee shows up in other ways.
Good, he you lost the livelihood to feed a family of six. What a dumbass. All because he wanted to be a spoiled west coast yuppie with all mouth and no ass. He failed his family. Maybe the next privileged west coast white boy will count his blessings and be more thankful. What a dumbass. #failure
+Sue He explained that he shows the video because the other company that hired him immediately fired him and said he should have told them about the video. That's when he decided to show it to all of his potential employers, supposedly in the spirit of transparency.
+Sue No worries. But I think you made a good point, subjecting a potential employer to that kind of incident would make for an uncomfortable interview.
You are not suppose to respond with hateful behavior or actions, she actually did handled it the way you are suppose to. Arguing back is breaking policy, even though a lot of people do it wrong now.
He acted as if the woman working the drive-thru window actually had any say in her companies policies. As someone who has always been a "worker bee" and has been screamed at (more than once) for stuff I couldn't have changed even if I wanted to, I think he got just what he deserves.
Agreed- but how long does he have to pay for his stupidity? He got another job miles away then sacked after 2 weeks. I'm sure he would have learned his lesson and kept his head down. They should have given him a chance to prove himself it is not like he drove drunk and killed someone.
@Frenchi 111 He was probably just looking for someone to bully. The gay rights thing was probably just a pretext for his bullying so it looked like he wasn't being a bully, but a noble person standing up for what's right.
@@lisaschuster9187 yeah but i didnt film and post the dumb ass thing i said. The wound is self inflicted because you think what you have to say is so important. Turns out you are wrong.
Things to learn from this situation. 1. Learn how to talk to people. The size of your paycheck doesn’t give you the right to treat someone with disrespect. 2. For most people it only takes a couple of mistakes before your the person thats begging for money on the side of the road, or on food stamps, homeless.
The Anti gay and abortion people have done so so much worse and got away with it. In one week Trump gets away with worse. This video was nothing compared to the Westboro Baptist people...
He needs to be a speaker at high schools, colleges, and businesses to show people what can happen when you get carried away on the internet. People think you can say or do whatever without consequences.
He should be a volunteer speaker and NOT making a profit. He clearly attempted to antagonize that woman into doing something stupid but she was smarter and had more dignity than Adam Smith did.
That's ridiculous. He graduated top of his business class. He should know that he's supposed to save 6 months worth of his income incase of a bad situation.
very true. Just to play devil's advocate. They won't hire you outside a busy metropolitan area, unless you're christian and ok with their anti-gay feelings. I'm surprised more chic-fi-le employees are harrased;
This video is 7 years old. Edit: also pretty sure people were digitally stalking him and flagged him with reports whenever he’d get a new job; also crazy that people won’t even hire him because of the video
I don't understand his logic. Why go to a drive thru and yell at an employee of a company? They're not the ones that make the policy's or donate to causes. All most employees care about is going to work to get a pay check to pay their bills.
We'll have to agree to disagree. He wasn't speaking out against hate. He was putting hate out into the world. The clerk isn't the one making the rules and deciding how the company donates money. She's there to do her job and bring home a pay check. That's it. He had no reason to do what he did. He wanted to speak out about hate but all he did was put more hate out there. FYI it's not just republicans that are upset about what he did. Do I think it should still follow him this long? Not really. However I also don't think someone who had that kind of a position should have done what he did. He had the resources to handle it completely difference and maybe had he done something different he wouldn't have lost his job and could have affected real change. Freedom of Speech doesn't actually cover Hate Speech. Also something to consider is that when he was hired I bet you he signed something that stated he wouldn't do something that would turn around and look bad for the company. Which this did.
You should re-read what I said. I never said that this should still be following him. I still think it was absolutely the right thing for him to loose his job tho. He wasn't using his head. When your in a position like CFO you not only represent yourself but you represent the company you work for. Which means thinking before you do stuff like this. He didn't and he suffered the consequences. Now does that mean that he should still have an issue finding a job? Maybe, maybe not. We don't know what kind of jobs he's applying for. If all he's interested in is these high-powered jobs then I'm not surprised he hasn't found work yet. Plenty of people have bigger mistakes follow them threw their life. Some peoples mistakes even cost them their lives. In a town just 30 miles from where I live a guy just 21 yrs old was killed in a car accident because he rode with someone who was too drunk to be behind the wheel. Should that one mistake have cost him the chance at life? No. That's just the way it is tho. Whether you or this man feels like it should still be following him the fact is that it is. He will eventually be able to overcome it but until his own drive pushes him to do just that he's going to be stuck. However in the end it was probably a good thing. He actually gets to see his kids grow up. He gets to spend time with them. Had he not lost his job there's a good chance he wouldn't get to do that.
Freedom of Speech doesn't protect someone from loosing their job or having other consequences. It just means that someone has the right to say what they want. That doesn't mean it's always a smart decision to do it or that they won't have to deal with fall out.
David Reid freedom of speech wasn't at issue here. What he did was considered harassment and that's not protected by law. Not to mention he made six figures and the employee made minimum wage. ...what kind of guy does that? be a man and talk to the CEO of the company you have an issue with.
I am a gay man, and where I don't agree with the CEO of chick fil a views on gay marriage, he is entitled to his own opinion. But this guy going into one of their drive thrus, and harassing a innocent worker, just because of what her boss belives in, has only made himself look bad.
Chick Fil A also pays big fines for their mall locations that refuse to open on Sundays too. I disagree with his taking it out on a hourly fast food employee - why do you think she works there, however; people have done FAR worse and never lost their jobs. If I were him I'd sue for abusive discharge. I guess his big mistake was filming it. Either theres more to this or if we scratched the surface I'll bet we find that company wanted to get rid of him for other reasons and used this as their excuse.
I commend you... I went to the Chick Fil-A by me in North Palm Beach that day... For pretty much everyone there including myself, it was an issue of free speech.. There was a Gay couple there I spoke to, and they came for the same reason... The only folks there I heard voicing any anti-Gay sentiment, were Blacks.... This has always puzzled me, because both Gays & Blacks tend to be on the same side of the political aisle..
I don't think his employer would have cared had he exercised his right and joined one of the peaceful protests outside one of the restaurants, or outside Chick Fil-A company HQ.. He demonstrated that he could not control his emotions, in a very calculated, cruel and unstable manner .... Few business owners want such a personality to reflect on them, or to run their company..
b Don't tell the 9th circuit it isn't a real thing. If thats the WORST those poor carved out of cream cheese workers have to endure than lets all pray they NEVER EVER attempt to work in ANY service industry in NYC!! They'd be eaten alive within 10 minutes of their first shift. His rant was directed at the wrong individuals but who cares at the end of the day, I mean if he was going to suffer all of this maybe he should've escalated it, then losing his job might make sense than simply b/c he was unkind to the 10% tax bracket who they themselves probably couldn't care less an hour after it happened and who had no affiliation with that software company what so ever. yes I think its stupid to fire someone over that unless, as I stated, theres more to the story than we see here - they were LOOKING for an excuse to get rid of him.
at first i pitied him but after watching what he did to the poor girl, I realized that he got what he deserved. A clerk has nothing to do with the franchise's stand against anything. Was he drunk or something? his children had to suffer because of his bad behaviour
I find it hard to believe that a $200K salary guy could be completely unemployable at a reasonable wage even over a viral video. *Someone* will accept your ‘lesson learned’ angle in an interview…
Maybe, but I was essentially let go from a major US research university after 10 years for refusing to break the law. After over 5 years of applying to jobs in which I could parlay my skills, I had to work food service just to survive. There is such a thing as being black balled.
But if we look at the big picture, he tried to stand up against inequality and what he perceived as injustice. He did it the wrong way, of course, and he understands that now....but I find it sad that none of the groups he was supporting, though in an incorrect way, are helping him in any way. If someone has learned their lesson, we should be quick to forgive and not continue beating down on them.
@@clara-fd2ce That's a very good point that I hadn't actually considered. Plenty of people and organized groups out there who share this man's views and yet not a single one offered to help him once the severity and depth of the backlash became apparent. It is a cautionary tale. Before you put a video out there for the whole world to see, you really do need to take a peek around that digital corner and think through the implications of not only what you're saying and how you're saying it, but how it is going to be perceived across the landscape of social media.
@@viking956 It is, however, nice to see Chick-fil-A doing so fabulously well despite all the haters. Although I find them a bit pricey, the occasions when I have gone into one of their restaurants I have found only nice people on both sides of the counter in contrast to the wretched people and service you see everywhere else.
No matter what you're upset with any company about, NEVER take it out on the person behind the cash register: They have no control over their bosses' behavior, and in fact aren't even allowed to have an opinion about it. They're just trying to make it through another shift.
I'm pro gay marriage ,but this guy is a jerk. For those of you saying" he was just upset" no, he knew that that woman had nothing to do with the political positions of the company. He's smart enough to understand that. He was willing to be mean to that woman knowing that she had nothing to do with it, just because he wanted to make a video making himself look like a hero of some sort.
Nice mentality. You’re the type who caused a company you work for to go out of business by being a shitty employee and than cry foul when you’re unemployed
I don't like Chick-fil-a for their food or their shitty policies but the employees are just trying to make a living and do not deserve any abuse. This guy deserves to get humbled like he did
Dont apologize for working there! You are entitled to work wherever you please and CF is entitled to whatever opinion they have. There are a superb restaurant whom their “bigoted” owners have ran masterfully considering they’re still the most popular spot in town.

@William Dionicio well it's according the situation, when I was in highschool I worked at a Burger King, and Even though I went and did the owner's landscaping and were friends I never had a clue about his politics. Every situation is different , I guess it's got a lot to do with age and Everything .
@William Dionicio I get where you're coming from, but that's just not the way it is. People on the lower rungs of a company don't represent the politics of the companies that hire them, they're just there to get paid. I'm pretty sure that most people that work at chik fil a probably side with the lgbtq community (a lot of young, college-aged people). It might be the owner's views on the front pages, but rank and file don't necessarily believe those things.
@William Dionicio "A simple example would be, at McDonald’s your employer demands that you smile and be kind, why? Because you are a representative of the company. Therefore wherever you choose to work, you choose to represent." We're talking about different things. You're talking of employees representing the company's interests and general motifs, not necessarily the politics. An example of employees representing a company's politics would be if chik fil a required all their employees to, as a hypothetical example, refuse service to lgbtq because of established religious beliefs, and then the employees went ahead and enforced that policy by refusing service to those people. As an employee of any business entity, you represent that business' image insofar as customer service and general rules of societal politeness go, but politics are a whole different deal. You can work in a job and still retain your own personal political beliefs. It's too much of a blanket statement to say that if you work somewhere you automatically assume their political views as well.
@William Dionicio Not really. People don't work for a company cause they believe in the politics of it. They work there for the pay and benefits. Although I don't agree with chick-fil-a being bigots, if I needed a job and they had an opening, I'd take it in a heartbeat. You'd be surprised how many of the employees may not have a issue with people's sexuality. Some may even be gay themselves without letting the owners know. They are there for the pay and that's it.
It's funny how people think a young, minimum wage employee has any effect on what the CEO says. She doesn't care. Take your damn chicken and move along hero.
Right or don’t shop there like your buying there products so your supporting them an you don’t have to but that girl probably needed that job while he’s making millions or was
Yeah. I was thinking even if we are living comfortably in some part of the world, let’s say the president or prime ministers go crazy or if there is war. Nothing will matter, no amount of Money, or houses. You have to flee for your life, all you have is your body. Nothing is guaranteed at all. 🤔
He did not learn his lesson, because the wife is the one with a job. So why isn't he working at a fast food restaurant.I think he is still feeling entitled.
It's my understanding you (Chick Fil A) can donate to whomever they desire. The world has gone crazy! People think their viewpoint is the only one that matters, and if someone else doesn't acquiesce to it they're somehow evil... And to take it out on the young lady, who is not the corporation, was quite uncalled for! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 While forgiveness is necessary to the Christian family, his is an heart issue (un-intregrious) seemingly others aren't willing to tolerate. Hm? 🤔
This was an example of an individual on his high horse. Its easy to take a stand for things you believe in. But there is also consequences for actions. Moral be mindful of choices because they will have repercussions either good or bad. Corporate view point terrible decision for him to make stand in that manner. Individual perspective “C’est la vie” you win some you lose some.
There’s literally no way that after making a 6 figure salary he’s immeadiately on food stamps. Don’t feel bad for him at all. He’s now living in the kind of house that everyone else lives in.
@@bighawaii Wrong. Food stamps take into consideration not only your income or lack of income but all of your assets, your family size, your ability or inability to obtain work. Still funny after all these years! And he is still feels sorry for himself. In 2015 he and his family were still living better than countless people in America, but he acted as though they were forced to live in abject poverty. He was so used to living in what most Americans would consider the lap of luxury that he actually thought he entitled to dump on a young girl, who worked at a fast food. He got what he deserved! @@monember2722 LOL! Using the very term "wealthy" instead of "rich" is a tell about your socioeconomic background. Do a little fun reading: Vance Packard. Used to be required reading for college students who were smart (but poor) and wanted to move up and blend in. I don't worry about money. I made the decision long ago that I would rather have as much as I need and a little bit more to share, rather than either live to work or sell my soul for money. If you have enough and people who love you, it is more than enough. People in my family range from multi-millionaires to high-earning blue collar. The rich ones worked hard in the 50's: new money. But I will tell you this: money can't make you happy or content. That arrogant jackass was just mean spirited and asinine. Treating a hard-working young person--probably a high school or college student--like that is really inexcusable. He got what he deserved. You don't have to be educated, refined, cultured, or rich to be decent.
That poor lady at Chick-Fil-A. She looks so innocent, & you can tell he hurt her feelings. I think that’s the kicker for me. You can’t treat an innocent young lady like that. It’s very inappropriate. No sensible company wants to deal with that kind of publicity. Not to mention the drama of having that kind of employee.
So you think people should have their life / career destroyed over standing up for the rights of gay people? Do you think Rosa Parks should have never gotten a job because she didn't stand up for a white person to sit down? Yeah, he did it to the wrong person, but she said she forgives him so they need to hug it out and everyone's all better. I almost with a 99.9% certainty you've said worse or made someone feel worse in your life than this guy did. So why act all high and mighty? At least he had a somewhat decent cause for saying what he did.
And where are these same gays to defend him and his family ?. Why haven't these gays offered him a job or started a go-fund me account for him and his family?. I also heard that there are gays who themselves are employed at Chick Fil-A but yet none of them quit their jobs because of what the CEO said about disagreeing with gay marriage. You still think his cause was decent?. And don't stupidly compare Rosa Parks to what this idiot did because she wasn't harassing anybody by refusing to give up her seat on a bus for a white person (in fact she wasn't the first black woman to do so either) and also don't compare racism with (so-called) homophobia considering that gays are and always have been racist as hell to black people even to black people (gay and straight) who have foolishly defended them all whilst having the nerve to complain about discrimination. If he had a problem with what the CEO said about "gay marriage" then he should have had the balls to go the CEO himself and argue with him or simply just boycott the place.
dedalliance1 Rosa Parks never harassed a cashier at a drive thru then posted it for the world to see. Employers do not want lunatics to represent their company and cost them business. Just because you cannot get arrested for free speech doesn't mean you should always say what is on your mind or post it to social media. There are a million other ways he could have "stood up for gay rights" other than harassing a cashier that has zero to do with anything involving the company. This isn't rocket science...
Bro....you went on a rant to the drive through lady who most likely could care less either way about the issue and is making peanuts for pay. Wtf were you thinking my dude?
Haha I was just going to say this. Right on man! For all he knew, she agreed with him 100%! She just wasn’t willing to lose a job over it. Perhaps he should have followed her example instead of making Taylor Swift videos lol 🤦🏼♂️
I've seen videos where people talk way worse to others while recording to get a point across... I actually thought he wasn't rude at all. He was just saying it all to the wrong person. I still wish he gets over this and I actually command and thank him for speaking up I just hope it wasn't at a worker that probably doesn't agree with the company's stance. He could have offered to help her find better employment somewhere else on video and that would have been epic and impactful
Well honestly I don't feel sad or bad about this guy's action. If you feel that passionate about something then the reaction of things you do or set into motion are a result of your "passion". Lesson learned.
Don't feel bad for this guy. He posted that video thinking he'd get likes and support. This guy has lived such a life of privilege that he literally couldn't conceive of the fact that minimum wage workers have no say in what corporate does. He literally asked the cashier "How do you sleep at night?". Imagine being that out of touch? This guy isn't struggling, in this video of him "on food stamps" he's shopping at expensive grocery stores and buying organic food and free-range chicken. Claims he "can't find a job", he's only applying to CFO six figure jobs. He can find a job, but he just isn't open to looking for ones that are "below him".
Good point. I've been laid off, I took a job well under my qualifications just to have a job until I could find something better. No excuses for him to not to have a job there are plenty out there.
The problem is that he essentially bullied a worker at a fast food place, who was probably a minimum wage worker. And who does not have anything to do with the policies of the company. These workers find work where they can get it. I honestly just wish people would stop bullying each other and pushing each other around.
Yeah, she's just trying to survive and has nothing to do with some rich CEOs politics. I hate bullies, I'm gay and him thinking he's standing up for gay rights while demeaning another is bs to me! I'm actually tired of the gay pride it's bs . I'm gay but I'm not out here acting a a**!! Lol
As a Chick-fil-A team member myself. Of course, being hired plenty of years after this, I just have to say that you deserve any punishment coming your way for harassing employees that are just simply trying to do their jobs. We are not paying to put up with this crap. And I’m glad his employer took note of that.
They had to pack up and move a couple thousand miles away, find a place to live, set up house, I'm assuming that took a great chunk of savings. He's also been unemployed for three years with a family--savings doesn't last long there. To top it off, the company revoked his stock options which is typically where most of the benefits, bonuses, and savings lie. So he lost out on all of that money.
Instead of taping himself berating an employee, he could have just boycotted the company. Filming yourself doing that isn't activism; it's vanity. And the backlash is real 🍵
Sure, he shouldn't have yelled at an employee for their company being anti-gay, but in what way is this justified? He got emotional at the wrong person for a cause he believed was right, so how do you justify in your head that he deserves all of this?

@@bajkhan1874 expensive food on food stamps sure will keep you from becoming overweight 😊 but if you have a family you Might think about power shopping 😊
Baraqua Amina Levy Belle Khan- I remember food stamps as a kid In the early 80’s. We ate bread and used powdered milk for our cereal. Tasted gross. FF to today and people buy nice steak, lobster, and many other expensive foods. All footed by us hard working tax payers. Many of which can’t even afford to buy these types of food. I see these things everyday at work. I’m not saying people have to live like I did as a kid. But there should be food items you can’t buy also.
@@threetoyotas I remember that government issued food too. The US #departmentofagriculture still issues some foods today. However, some people have food allergies or other medical conditions which require a specific diet, so limited food choices because other people are 'jealous' and 'envious' isn't fair. And while #lifeaintfair, everyone who works and makes purchases pays taxes into the system-- including low-income families. People can always give up their other luxuries to switch places with them if they think that living on #foodstamps is better
"I don't know how you can work here." She's working there because she's probably a single mom or a college kid trying to make her way in life and doesn't earn $200,000 a year like you do so you can sit in your fancy car and confront the working class blaming them for the right or wrong positions (in your subjective perception) of the owners.
@Frankie T. Wankum Esq. Gay people have kids. She also said "or a college kid trying to make her way in life." The *point* that there may be many good reasons why that woman took that job is lost on you? Should someone have to exhaust all possibilities in order to make that point?
@Frankie T. Wankum Esq. Yes it still stands. That's because I used the word "probably." To me probably is anywhere north of 50% otherwise defined as "more likely to believe something than disbelieve." Duh. 🤪😜
People are always gonna love seeing failure and not saying, how do you redeem and learn and grow from your mistakes if it's just constant backlash and canceling. He didn't do right but what the hell do people want from this guy, a beheading....
I understand he made a mistake, and him berating the cashier was not okay, but I feel like all the hate towards him is over the top. Why is there so much hatred towards this guy? It doesn't seem consumerate.
This is crazy...she didn't know WTF you were even talking about. She just woke up and came to work to feed her family. That what happens when you think your above people🙄
@Freedom Of Choice family doesn't just mean you have kids.."family" is what you make it.... The point is the clerk wasn't expecting that treatment nor did she deserve it for just trying to complete an honest days work.
@Freedom Of ChoiceI agree but whether she's of age, a teenager, college student or even if she has kids she has some type of responsibilities or she wouldn't have a job. Bottom line I know we both can agree he's wrong all so many levels.
Hectic Erectic he’s too old to be clout chasing. Then he tried to get more clout by uploading him dancing to Taylor Swift. He needs to get up and at least apply to McDonald’s with his lazy ass
For those not from Portland, the grocery store this segment shows him shopping in is called Green Zebra. It's as pricey as Whole Foods, like $6 for a jar of tomato sauce expensive. So those food stamps would go a lot further if he wasn't spending them in yuppie high end food stores 🙄
Wow that is very critical and shows a lack of knowledge of what goes into producing news segments. I doubt he even picked the store. The producers called stores and set it up to get clearance on filming and it probably had to do with what store had the best lighting in their area that they could get the shot of the register from. This dude is clearly broke, the picture of the bridge behind his kids is an IKEA one, and the dude is on unemployment and food stamps and I hope someone in his area reached out after this clip to hire him. It is so so so easy to be critical of how people who are broke spend their money but if they are able to buy any sense of luxury with the small amount of what would be grocery money that food stamps replace then good for them. Being poor SUCKS and this guy clearly learned a huge lesson in humility and desperation. He didn’t pick the stupid grocery store guys.
