Owned the Move for a few months now. I’ve also owned a One Gen 2 for some time and I can safely say now after using both, the sound from the Move just doesn’t impress me as much as I hoped it would. I will say that yes, the Move produces a little more gut in the bass compared to the One, but honestly speaking it’s not a huge difference by any means. The main problem I have with the Move is that as soon as you push the speaker past half volume, it starts to cut the bass that it has substantially. Around the 50% mark and below the speaker really does shine in the lower frequencies compared to the One but when you start to push it past that 50% mark it really does just start to sound thin, especially for a speaker of it’s size. I say that because while it’s considerably bigger than the One, the One can really hold it’s own in the bass range when you start to push both speakers past half volume which in my opinion, is pretty unremarkable on the Moves part. Can the Move get louder? Sure, there’s definitely a difference in loudness. The One also sounds pretty rough at max volume as compression and distortion kicks in with that speaker at those volume levels, meanwhile the Move does play cleaner at max volume, though with a substantial lack of bass. All in all for the size and price difference, I really do think that the Move just simply underperforms compared to what the One delivers for half the cost. To anyone that is trying to decide between either of these speakers and has powered through reading this entire comment (monologue tbh), my advice to you would be that if you don’t need the built in battery, buy two Sonos Ones (Gen 2 or SL) and pair them together for stereo. You’ll get a louder sound with most likely fuller bass after you’ve set them up as a pair, and you’ll have the freedom of placing them away from each other in a room for a more immersive sound.

Hey if you leave the Move connected to a charger does the bass still cut out past 50%?
@lewis02mc
@lewis02mc 2 года назад
@@borisbolshoi7317 (Sorry in advance for the long reply) From my experience yes, I believe it does. Audio from the move seems to sound the same while running on battery power as it does while connected to the charger. This was actually something I originally really liked about the Move as I’ve used other speakers in the past that would cut overall volume and bass output as soon as they were unplugged from the mains power. This, as I’m sure you can imagine, is an inconvenience to say the least. My overall opinions on the Move that I talked about in my original comment however, still stand I’m afraid. I just don’t think for the price it’s sound is up to par with other speakers in it’s class. Below 50% it does sounds pretty nice, a warm, punchy sound signature with a pretty solid bass response, especially when the speaker is placed in the corner of a room. It’s really when you push past maybe 55% volume and especially at higher volumes that the Move really does just start to fall flat in my opinion, a shame really.

Looking to spend $300 for maximum sound quality, trying to decide between a move and a pair of one SLs. Maybe I'll wait for the Era 100 and eventually make a pair of them? Or maybe I start all over and look at the Marshall line again. Oy.

Listening to this through headphones, I liked the One better. Going back and listening, I can see what you mean about the Move having more bass punch, but I think the separation of the Mids and Highs in the One just make it sound cleaner. The Mids and highs in the Move sound muffled to me.

Great video! One of the first on the web focusing on sound. In other reviews they say, that Move is very similar to One, just louder. But in this video, the Move sounds really muflled. Something can be wrong here I guess.

Usually higher wattage power amps kick in at louder volumes so that's why the MOVE sounds like muffled at lower volumes, but i bet at 75% or 50% capacity will sound beautifully

I got 2 Sonos Ones, prefer them over the Sonos Move, as the Ones have better treble. With 2 Ones, you get true stereo. I’ll give up the portability of the Sonos Move for better sound quality of the Ones. The Move isn’t really portable anyway, compared to the Roam.

Took the Move to a one week vacation, placed it outside (the purpose of a Move) in the pool area, the sound was everywhere, loud and clear it's an amazing piece of technology.
@100bsl
@100bsl Год назад
Move has a downward firing tweeter with sound dissipating via a custom left right waveguide. So, it's not front firing, unlike the tweeter in the One. That's why you get more clarity from the One. The new Move 2 has two front firing tweeters which are firing outwards at an angle like the Era 100. This should give it true stereo sound and more clarity as the tweeters are front firing.

@aaronloudnwireless

Probably something to do with the Move’s tweeter being a downfiring driver, meaning that it’s not beaming audio directly to the mic like the One.
@azmiamin111
@azmiamin111 5 лет назад
Aaron is Loud and Wireless Yeah that’s probably because the move tweeter is downfiring compare to Sonos one forward firing. I really don’t know whats the benefits of doing that...
@ECDY
@ECDY 5 лет назад
Azmi Amin that way the move has a 360 sound, what it means is that it doesn’t have a sweet spot. The one has a sweet spot, which means that once you leave a particular area, you might not get the loudness or sound quality, but the move has downward firing tweeter, which means you can get the same audio quality wherever you are. Also, the move is designed to be a outdoor portable speaker, that should explain why. Imagine a round table with people 4 people sitting around it and the move at the middle of the table, if the move doesn’t have a downward firing speaker, only a person that’s facing the forward firing speaker can get the awesomeness of the music, but since it’s downward firing, all 4 people can get the same audio quality. Hope this will help you understand why they do this.

EDWIN CDY Lol. What’s the point of having the tweeter only downfiring when the midbass driver is not even downfiring...

I own both and the Move certainly sounds better. It fills the room much more and has a deeper base. It isn't quite as crisp as the one, however, the ones are designed for smaller rooms or for 5.1 with a more direct focus, so I think there is a difference there. As a pair the ones are comparable, with the advantage of stereo too, but not portable.

The Sonos One sounds brighter and more balanced from this video. The Sonos Move is definitely not something I would buy at the moment. It's too big for me as a "portable" speaker". Also, the price at SGD $729 (at Harvey Norman) is crazy. I'd rather use the UE Boom 2 as a portable BT speaker. Unless you have a landed property with maybe a pool (to take the move from the house out to the pool area), I would recommend people to get 2 Sonos Ones instead and you would still have some change.

I'd be interested to know from anyone who has a pair of Moves what they sound like as a stereo pair. BTW all the talk of the Move being "muffled" is nonsense. And that comes from someone who's own one for a while now, so I should know.
@arthurevans2029
@arthurevans2029 5 лет назад
In this video, the One is much better. The Move actually sounds terrible, but it must have something to do with the set up here. (Optimization or tuning or placement or something) Perhaps you can change the scene and try a couple more arrangements, because this really makes the “Move” look bad. I’d like to hope my observation is inaccurate, but that’s my take anyway. If the Move is suited for outdoors, that might be another worthwhile test.
@aaronloudnwireless
@aaronloudnwireless 5 лет назад
I appreciate the input! Both were set to flat EQ and only optimized with Trueplay so as not to skew the results, and that would also have compensated for placement. An outdoors test would be possible if I could find some way to power the One but I'm confident the Move will outperform the One's bass range outdoors.
@michaellloyd4579
@michaellloyd4579 5 лет назад
So in this test, it is clear that the “Move” needs to have the highs turned up, compared to “the One.” It must be noted that they both have different tweeter & woofer designs.
