In your description you never mentioned love-like relationship between Gertrude, the mother and Paul, the son. They did feel like two lovers which is the quintessential factor of this novel. William also was taken as a lover by his mother. Hence, the nomenclature of the novel Sons and Lovers. What she couldn't get from her husband, she happened to get it from her sons. That sons are taken as lovers here in this novel is completely a psycho-analytical approach to human life.
That’s not completely true. Gertrude is deeply attached to her sons but it’s totally wrong that they are like lovers. Oedipal complex is not about physical attraction or adult love. It’s a deep sense of possession and attachment.
@@KalyaniVallath But Lawrence himself calls the novel 'Sons and Lovers'. Why? Isn't it only because sons are taken as lovers. Besides, Oedipus complex, according to Freud is very well based on sexual implications. Please check and let me know. Regards.
