For those of you having issues with ports not opened, it could be you need a "loopback" NAT. The server finds out the public IP address it is on and sends UDP packets on those ports from itself which then needs to loop back that traffic back to itself from the upstream router. I had to do that with my edge router/firewall.

Thank you very much for your video 🙌 It helps me a lot to configure and understand lot of config. But I don't know why I'm not able to see my server on the list actually. I have a Windows Server 2022, 8Gb RAM and 4 core (EUGameHost VPS UK Service). I've installed the Dedicated Server with my Admin user with SteamCMD and I have parameter all the things and don't have error on ports. I don't know why I can't see the server... All check passed and succeed. Okay editing, I don't know if it's that, but I see some popup of my MalwareBytes Anti-Malware who says that blocked some connections, I deactivate it, and now I can find my server ! Thank you again.

I'd always recommend a dedicated machine if you have one to spare. Specially if you like to turn off your main pc that you play with. As one setup for a server would run 24/7 ideally.

I have a problem when I close the server and open it again The saves back to the first time I save the game even if I save the world it is back to the first save (I couldn't find any way to fix it anywhere)

Great video but i think it ended a couple steps too soon. Im not sure what to do to actually start playing. It says the game is running when i have the last file open. Do i close it and play? how do i actually start playing the game on the server?

Once the server is up & running it just in a Command Prompt. You need to leave that window open as that is the server itself. After that all you need to do is start your game go to multiplayer click on join select dedicated and type in the name you gave your server.

i got this to work and plan on playing later tonight, so with this setup on my computer how can my friends play on the server if im not on?

Well you would 1 need to port forward if your friends aren't on the same network as you. After that the console of which you started the server just needs to stay open, which means whatever computer you set this all up on needs to stay running if you want your friends to play while your not online.

Hey; I'm unsure if this is an issue on my end. But when I attempt to start the server, even when unblocking the ports through firewall & Google Home, it tells me the ports are closed.

I may be able to troubleshoot it through something else, or, somehow force it on my Google Home to be open? I don't know. My friend is having this same issue w/ Google as well.

If you want your server to be accessed outside of you local network you will need to port forward. I don't ever show port forwarding in my video's since everyone has a different router.

Where should i put my ports ? The 8766, 27016, 9700 Protocol UDP Then i see Source port range start .... End .... Destinstion port range start .... End... So how i put it ?

You'd put 8766 as the start & end and you'd do that with all 3 ports

If you have any kind of Anti Virus on you computer it could be blocking the ports. Also if you haven't port forwarded yet you will need to do that.

You can, using wine but it isn't officially support on Linux. People have already made it quite easy by putting it all in side a docker container. But if you think you still need a video on it, I can add it to the list of videos to make.

it says closed server for me or the current port is used. i setup my port forwarding in my gateway and in firewall like you did.

Some ISP take awhile to update ports on the gateway, try again in a bit see if you have the same issue.

You'll need to access your router, and port forward the 3 ports the console says are closed. Once you do that you can restart the server and you will be good to go.

Ive set up a dedi server , all working all good, i wanna customize it abit, for example is there anyway of putting say "loghack on" and having it in the server config file? if so, how would this be written in the server config file? i can do "loghack on" on my PC , but i want it on the dedi server as a permanent..

Hi! so im running into the issue of downloading to the Directory. I copied and pasted the dir of the SOTF folder and it downloaded successfully but non of the files are appearing in the folder. i triple checked already to make sure there were no typos. any help? thanks!

Check your .cfg file in the locallow/SonsofTheForestDS folder. Double check the password field is empty if you don't want it to have a password.

Try adding it to your steam favorites. Steam > View > Game Servers > Favorites > Add server Use your server's IP Address and query port example: 127.0.0.1:27016

@@luciandev Okay thanks, I tried, and I think it worked, I had a lot of error messages saying that the GPU is incompatible with shaders but it seemed to work. But I think I’m going to have to buy Soft on another Steam account, because Steam didn’t want me to run Soft on my PC.

As of right now there is no direct connection, just the server browser that I'm aware of.

Is it possible to copy a non ds multiplayer save into the new ds sever save?

If it is possible, I currently do not know how to do it. As it's still fairly new and not a whole lot of information is out there yet.

@luciandev6630 I was able to copy the multiplayer folder files and was able to pull over the map, buildings, virginia tamed, etc. But now I cant figure out how to copy the player inventory and progress. The world save is the same file/folder struct as the ds

Hey I have an old dell usff 7010 it has a 3570s and 6gb of ram and 256gb SSD are the specs good enough to make a decent server for this game?.

The server itself doesn't consume a whole lot of resources you should be able to handle a small to medium size server.

@@TarnishedRyry I'd never say upgrading anything would be a bad thing. But you do need to keep in mind of the CPU as well. Depending on how large of a server you are trying to host, as far as your SSD goes if this game is the only thing on it you shouldn't need to worry about space.

The first start of the server is for it to generate the config files we need. After we configure everything and your ports are open if you are making it public then you shouldn't get any errors.

Maybe something else needs to be installed for it to work properly that i dont have on my main machine. Im installing the game on my server pc now to see if thats the case. But honestly no idea
