What is the best ultrawide lens for Sony FE full frame? Is the new 14mm f1.8 GM lens the best or does it have flaws? Some wide lenses are "rectilinear" type of glass. These correct the "barrelling" effect where outer edge lines are curved, like fish eye lenses. They cost a bit more but are well worth it.

New technical term invented in this video: Wiggle walls - when vignetting appears on the right and left of a video image and wiggles when the camera operator moves. It's an official thing now as far as I'm concerned.

I plan to get A7RV with Tamron 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 (crop 2X to 800mm), should I pair it with a Sony 14mm F1.8 (crop to 28mm F3.6 DOF) or 12-24mm F4 as ultrawide and everyday lens if I use them mainly for photo and for video mainly with Panasonic HC-X1500 25-600mm camcorder? I was deciding between these and Loawa 10-18, Sigma 14-24 F2.8, Sony 16-35 F4 PZ, Tamron 17-50 F4 and Sony 20 F1.8 but I think >=30mm can covered with few steps back on the tele Lena's 50mm, F2.8 is just slight better than F4 hence better get faster lens if I really need that, 17&16mm aren't wide enough for indoor, this is why I reduced to these 2 options, but will Sony update the 12-24mm F4 soon? The Power Zoom is tempting but is it essential or any of these even the fix lens can do dolly zoom just fine? And can I set profile for each lens so the pic&vid took by the golden look Tamron lenses and cooler look Sony lenses will look consistent? 14mm is better with the A7RV's cropped 4K60 with active stabilisation?

I believe you may be forgetting about the new rokinon/samyang lenses. Also the 10-18mm looks significantly softer and hazy-er outdoors (with the filters), plus the corner darkness falloff and pretty noticeable.

Using zv-e1 with 10-18 and catalyst browse. gave me the result i was expecting but now im looking for more bright lenses for lower ISO. Sony 14mm gm will be the first one cut off cause it dont have native way to put the filter on front, currently thinking about samyang 14mm or 12mm (asp-c)

That’s brilliant how you use the lens to prove a spherical earth. On a flat plane you look larger at the edges so you have to curve away at the edges for the same perspective;)

Great video Kasey very entertaining and informative as usual. I want your opinion on buying camera please. I work at the zoo, and I want a camera to film the feeding of the monkeys and other animals. It needs to have good stabilization since some animals are quite scary and can cause camera shake. Also needs to be incredibly sharp and look professional because these are very important clips for business of zoo. Oh and also camera that doesn't look to confrontational so it does not cause distress in the monkeys. Thank you!

Thanks for the review, problem with the 14mm is filters. No filter support, no buy for me. Too much of a hassle not being able to use screw type filters and won't leave home without an ND filter.

My 10-18mm has no vignette w. active stab from 11-17mm. You might see the re-vignette at 18mm with active stab off. The QC on that lens was not the best. Total mixed bag. It's possible that they silently altered production at some point.

I've heard the old 10-18 lenses with the black and white box were of better quality compared to the ones with the typical orange Sony box. Is this total BS or not? On another note I got my 10-18 very very early and have checked it in case it was de-centered. It seems to be fine.

There's also the Sigma 14-24. Cheaper than the GM 14mm f1.8. And its DG DN so it's not balls-heavy. So as long as f2.8 is a sacrifice you're willing to make.

Why would Sony send him an A7 IV with a crappy APS-C lens though? Sony probably yeeted him a ZV-E10, which an APS-C camera. That 10-18 has ugly colors too.

So I guess the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM was out of range, cause its too tight for vlogging, right? And I think the 14mm doesn't look pleasing in the details, unfocused background is ugly. 20mm 1.8 G produces a better look all across the range.

Ah..Thanks for pointing that flaw out. It is not just the usual focus breathing that exists in more than 95% of still photography lenses but a more annoying and from my experience quite rare, focus stepping. Maybe next one, Sony.

Not sure whether you know how to use an APS-C lens on a fullframe camera XD I can't really tell whether you're joking with it. In case you are not, here's how you actually do it: Just go into Super35 mode. Then the corners won't move like in your footage.

You should have shot the 10-18mm in Super 35 mode, or with an APS-C camera. Since most people will use that lens with an APS-C camera. The pro mist filter continues to suck. Might as well just clean your lens with a greasy mechanics rag and save your money. The 20mm lens is still the best. Super Wide, Super Sucks.

Sure, there somewhere in the menu is an option to turn on crop mode (for when using) an aps-c lens. At 10mm it should give you 15mm. Yes, you will lose a lot of the megapixel your Sony dont have but does that matter? And if, it will give you an excuse to hunt for the perfect camera again.
