I got the 24-50 for my a7cii and I love it. I was hesitant at first but it’s great. Especially since that’s the focal range I tend to stay in. All I need is a nice portrait lens. Definitely an underrated lens.
I got the 24-50 F2.8 to replace my 20-70 F4 as a travel lens. The 16-25 F2.8 is so weird though. They recycled the body of the 24-50 so it's heavier than the 16-35 F4 PZ or the tamron 20-40 F2.8. Just get a wide prime lol
I don't know what Sony were thinking. The 16-25mm is just 1.56 zoom ratio. Any zoom less than 2x is useless. I learned that with Tamron 17-28, sold it and got 16-35. When it comes to 24-50 lens, Sony missed the opportunity to make a compact 20-50/2.8, which would have been very useful. As it stands now, Tamron 20-40 is much better choice. Sony blew it.
I see what you're saying. Time will tell for me. My 24-70 & 16-35 GMs were getting a bit too old for me and honestly didn't want to spend another $4600 just to replace those when I know I would be using the Tamron 35-150 for 80% of what I need. The 24-50 will be a back up for me unless I just want to run a single camera and don't need the 1.4 or 1.2 of the 24 and 50 primes. Since I can get a 24-75 range if I count in the APS-C crop. The focal ranges are a bit odd for most people, but it makes sense for me. I doubt they will sell a lot of these, honestly, the price, at around $1200 each, is what drew me. That, and the small size
They should have done the 16-28mm and 28-70mm and still can make them small and light like the sigma 16-28mm and 28-70mm DG DN Contemporary. ‘Cus if get this two lenses I still have to carry an 85mm or 90mm
I see your point. what do you think of the tamron 35-150 if you combo that with the 16-25? that's what I'm gonna try out. the 24-50, that's probably only useful if you have a high-megapixel sensor, so you can do an APS-C crop and get the 75mm equivalent.
Nice to hear your thoughts about these focal lenses and how they compare to other lenses. A lighter colour T-shirt would've been better as a background to black lenses!
