The 16/2.8 is the only lens I use on my a6000. I love the size and the speed. It is soft in the corners, but for what I use it for that's not an issue.

I already have the Sigma 16mm f1.4. However, I really would like a pancake prime lens in the 16, 20, or 24mm, focal length for my little a5000 to use as a pocket/street camera. I guess I'm wondering if this Sony 16mm is enough of an upgrade from the 16-50mm kit lens (quite compact when closed) to make it worth it for that purpose. Obviously, the Sigma is way too big for keeping things compact. LOL.

Big question... is the 16mm prime a big difference from the kit lens which is already 16-50mm? It's already f3.5

I picked this up because I figured for the price I couldn't get hurt. I strongly believe it has a very poor maximum focus distance. Like it looks great for vlogs from a talking head perspective. However, distant objects are way to soft and it looks very unappealing. Just sharing my 2 cents

Sony has improved quite a lot since the year this lens came out but I can't think about it as a bargain, the canon 24mm stm it is; better sharpness and about half the price brand new but this 16mm 2.8 lacks of kind of anything but still cost over 200 dollars.

with the crop tho. the 16 will turn into a 20. and is probably the cheapest option you can get for something wide. anything less is probably gonna cost an arm and a leg .

@@mattduncan5500 after 2 years of using it. I can definitely say if you need a budget wide angle lens for vlogging or wildlife/building photography then it's definitely worth it. However it does have cons. The auto focus isn't the fastest. If af is important to you I would say spend the extra and get the sigma 16mm. I'm a manual focus guy so doesn't matter too much to me although the focus is by wire meaning it's using software and hardware to give you the "focus" So it will be different than a hard stop cine or manual lens. I would give it 7/10. Im planning to upgrade to the sigma

@@mattduncan5500 also if you need a fast lens that doesn't have variable f stop then I would say it's worth to have it along with the kit lens. Kit lens is great since it's versatile but the 3.5 is very limited.

@@gwm-btdbattlesagar.ioandmo9988 the sigma looks great. unfortuntaly its just too bulky for me when im traveling/filming i pretty much live off the nifty fifty, images are so nice, great lighting and its portable . BUT i need something wide that i can throw on for on the fly filming/vlogging/or if give it to someone else to shoot something for me and the have no expereicne . so trying to work out if i do the silver bullet here. or the kit lens. kit hass stabalizer built in. Silver has better aperture hmmmmmmmmmm

@@mattduncan5500 yeah if you need slim compact set up, I would say it's not a bad lens. Just keep in mind 16 is super wide so nd filters and some filters may cause some darker edges

hi, I use this lens with my Sony a7III full frame with a fish eye converter, my crop is about 12mm! that's awesome but yes, this lens is not very sharp, my question is if the 16mm lens on an apsc camera has the same focal length as a 16mm lens on a full frame camera

No , sony has a 1.5x zoom

So if you are using the 16mm on a crop body , it's 16X1.5 = 24mm

@@sangaydukpa2985 its so annoying , if is a apsc lens made for a apsc camera, i dont know why they dont calculate that into the reading. so we get a true idea of the focal without the calculation . im sure a vast majoroity of buyers dont know about the crop maths and assume they are getting 16mm where is says 16mm

@@mattduncan5500 well I assume the lense is actually 16mm but the body changes due to the sensor . like there are micro four thirds cameras they crop even more cause they have a smaller sensor than apsc and cinema camera have bigger sensors than full frame , so if you take 16mm , it will be come 10mm(just example) on cinemas camera , they are called medium format camera

Lense is 16mm so they can't write the focal length according to a specific sensor body
