Max Yuryev thanks Max, appreciate it. We’ve been thinking in the Zeiss f/4 or maybe the GM f/2.8 despite his high price tag for now. Keep up the great work! Greetings from Lisbon
Great review which, although it is brief, captures very well your obvious enthusiasm for this lens. The people who follow you, like me, notice when you are really struck by something good. This lens is clearly outstanding. Thanks for the very helpful review.
It's the Slider Mini by Smartta, which is currently in the 2nd round of crowdfunding :-) www.indiegogo.com/projects/slidermini-ultra-portable-smooth-camera-slider#/
Dave Dugdale yeah but it's a good thing it happened because they're already looking into it to make it stronger. I also suggested a way to lock it while transporting it, if it had something like that this wouldn't have happened.
The colours of the Tamron look much better then the Gmaster lens! 0:23 / 0: 28 Also even though there is plenty of blur, the image looks rather flat to me.
Perhaps it was the abundance of green being reflected from the green trees but with the GM Max's face looked green but not with the Tamron and the shape of his head was different from the Tamron.
I have the 85mm G-master, which is definitely greenish compared to my 50mm 1.4 Sony-Zeiss. That one leans more towards blue/violet. I think the greenish thing might just be a Gmaster prime thing. I also own the 16-35GM and it doesn't look green...go figure.
Good point!- now I can totally justify wanting this new prime lens less than two weeks after buying the Tamron ( won't have that lens in my hands until next week, though!) Thanks!
The 24/70 GM stinks...mine did anyway. It has lots of distortion at the wide end and is quite soft at 2.8, especially toward the tight end of the focal range. It needs to be stopped down to F4 to be really sharp, and looks the best around 50mm. I returned it in favor of a 50mm F1.4 Sony Zeiss and couldn't be happier...saved some money too!
Great video max, I’ve been thinking about moving from Olympus m4/3 to the Sony A7III and this has just made my mind up as 24mm is my preferred focal length.
I think the Tamron looked better. I get the run and gun Vloger likes to shoot wide to fit at arms length, but it always looks better, more professional when you either have a tripod/camera man that can put the camera further back using a longer lens.
You are better off 💋💃🏻♥️👍🏼🥂 Sony cameras (or any camera for that fact) never bitch at you, never pass judgment, don't argue... Matter of fact, they encourage you to go out and stay out late 🙏🏼🖐🏼🎤 Enjoy your new found freedom ♥️ 📷 Happiness is just around the corner 💋💃🏻
Hi Max, great video as usual. Can you comment on why the red tones seemed to disappear when you switched from the Tamron to the Sony 24mm GM? I was planning on ordering it but this scene has given me pause.
Im really not a huge fan of the colour rendering, the tamron seems to render colour more pleasantly. Whats your opinion on the colour rendition? Considering you have used the Tamron extensively (as do I). Ive been really keen for a new prime, not sure if this is the one...
Nice review as always. I know this was just for demonstration but candidly I hope we don’t see a lot of vlogging with such a shallow DOF especially when in interesting areas. So many of these shots I was hoping to see the sights of San Francisco behind the subject.
Max, I have preordered this lens. Many are saying it was very green compared to the Tamron. But I take your word that it is a excellent lens. Cheers and thanks
I joined the preorder this morning. I decided to return the Batis 25 in order to buy the GM. Not super excited about having to wait more than a month for it to ship but I'm sure it'll be worth it
The colour on your face when you swapped to the 24mm in the forest was horrible! Is that your grading or the lens that makes your face go a shade of yellow/green? Or is that natural and the 28mm is just oversaturating it? Either way it doesnt look like a flattering vlogging lens
Its both coloring (being quick) and that shot was recorded a little bit later (waiting for people to walk by) the lighting changing and the tough thing about so much greenery is reflections that cause color on your face.
Very nice video, sorry to ask, I back-ordered the zoom 24-105mm f4 sony lens for my a7iii but watching your review , I was wondering if I should cancel my back-order and just get the 24mm 1.4 lens? I currently have the 55mm f1.8 lens which i love and the 70-200mm f4 as well, I thought the 24-105mm lens would be a good carry around lens but I was wondering if the 24mm 1.4 lens would be sufficient for indoor group photos, protrait photos where i want some more of the background showing in the photo and for landscape photos, as well as video shooting of my kid's sports, or should i stick with the 24-105mm zoom lens. I am really worried about giving up the zoom feature for the f1.4 and the light weight of the 24mm lens. I also have the a6000 with the 16-70 f4 zeiss and i find that the zoom lens is more useful for me for general photography of my kids and family photos so I thought the 24-105mm f4 for my a7iii would do the same but now i am having second thoughts because of this new 24mm f1.4 lens coming out. I really do like the prime lenses because of how much nicer looking the photos (of my family and fast moving kids...) as well as the fast auto focus so I am really on the fence on whether to keep the 24-105mm back order or take the pre order on the 24mm 1.4 lens instead. I was also worried about the weight on the 24-105mm f4 for general carry around vs the 24mm 1.4 lens. I hope you may have some expert opinion on this... sorry for the long comment.
hey Max! How did it handle distortion? I'm looking into real estate/architecture photography and have been deciding between a solid 24mm prime, or a wide zoom until i can afford adapting a Canon tiltshift!
Great video! I just have a question: which profile is better for filming pp7 (Slog2) of pp10 (HLG2) in terms of dynamic range? Everybody is filming in Slog2 but sony announced the pp10 and said its so good. Whats your oppinion on it?
Hi Max! I'm interested in the A7iii but have been hearing about mic input issues as reported by Henbu and Jason Anthony. I also heard that the data output ports are not too strong and prone to damage. Are these overblown issues or are they valid concerns?
Interesting review. I was taken by surprised when at 6:25 you literally say "it's a decent price - it's a bit expensive" and present a graphic of it being 2nd cheapest (though the gap is wide with the Sigma), and the same graphic showing what are probably the best specifications. It seems like the reasonable thing to say is "it's pricey, but compared to the competition for it's capability - a great value."
Have you noticed 24mm focus pulsing (tiny evf image zooming in and out, and you can feel the motor when holding the lens) ) when using narrow apetures? Mine starts from f4 and is the worst on f11 and f16.
@@MaksimYuryev yeah I sent back the Batis yesterday and got onto the preorder list. It sucks that it doesn't ship for another 5 weeks but I'm excited to get it either way
Max, I watched a lot of RU-vidrs complaining about the sony a7 series flip screen and how it’s semi impassible to vlog with. Do you agree with that or in other way Do you recommend it ???! It’s full frame sensor, some shot 4k not crop and excellent for photographers.
Its definitely not impossible. If you know how to hold the camera in front of you and preset exposure (or let the camera decide) you don't NEED to see what the framing looks like. (but it would be nice to have)
Can't believe Sony has better optical design capability than both Nikon and Canon, and Sigma for that matter. There is no secret in modern lens design, basically there is no way you get high resolution, low distortion, great microcontrast, in a smaller than average package all of major competitors fail to deliver.
This video was so nice, great content as always. I assume you will jump on a potential new Sony APS-C camera, if and when they release it and compare it to the a6300 and a6500.
Milan Kollar i had the 35 1.4 and will get the 24 gm 😁.... the 35 1.4 was bloody 640 g plus expensive. The Gm is also expensive but lighter, native , Gm, smaller , and most importantly my favorite focal length 24 ☝️😀
