This is the first video I’ve seen that actually shows and explains focus breathing- thank you for the straight-forward demonstration. And audio is great. Most people on YT sound like they are in a cavern.

I just got this lens yesterday and feel like the autofocus with the breathing is jittery and distracting for basic talking head stuff, i don't see it as much in your video just curious how your AF setting are set? Please let me know...Thanks for you vids! Subbed! also FYI: I just posted a video where you can see the comparison with the 35mm gm vs the 1.8 focus breathing

I am thinking about this lense. The way video and pictures looks is unique and cinematic look. Heard sony just realized sony G lense for videos with power zoom. But the look in that is not same as this. What are your thoughts in this lense? Tks

I loved your video. Quite direct and clear. Actually because of these video I’m going to buy the 1.4 to use it with my A1 and stop worrying about the focus breathing. I know that if I buy the 1.8 I’m going to think what if I bought the superior 1.4 GM

Thanks Vu for such detailed comparison review, If I am a video maker and don’t really mind focus breathing issue. Wondering the video images quality gonna make any noticeable difference on FX3 ‘s 4K 10bit ? Consider the resolution is very low on 4K. My key consideration is image quality on video.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Honestly I find the breathing even on your to camera piece using AF to be noticeable and quite distracting. As nice as the image quality and extra bokeh is, focus breathing screams cheap kit lens to me which for sure the GM is not. Thanks again, I really appreciate your direct thoughts without the waffle!

I guess that auto tracking was used here? I use an FX6 with no tracking available and with the 1.4 GM I have the problem with stuttering focus in some situations, even at the slowest focus speed. The image of the lens is great and I could live with the focus breathing but with the stutter it often looks like cheap smartphone footage. The 24 mm 1.4 GM is better in that regard. Too bad.

I feel focus breathing shouldn't be a deal breaker in the case of the 35 1.4 GM, in light of everything else it has to offer. It's not as if clients are looking at their wedding footage and saying "Ooh I don't like all that focus breathing, can I fire you and get a refund?" Nah.

its a deal breaker for me which is why i dont use the G-master 35mm and rather just continue using sony regular 35mm. I record weddings and events in documentary style too so when i have to point that camera on someone's face for 2-5 minutes, the focus breathing causes an issue for me as many times you will see it focus in-n-out which is irritating that i resorted back to manual focus. If we're going to be paying $1,400 for a GM lens, then sony better fix this focus breathing problem as well. It is suppose to be their premium camera for both video and photo so no excuses
