Sony 4K Projector SXRD Panel Alignment : How to do It. 

Two years using this projector and nobody was able to present a solution to the bleeding. You sir are godsend!!

Great video! Most of your videos aren’t very educational, but you nailed it this time. There’s not many Sony 4k projector panel alignment tutorials about. I find it slightly easier to align using the R/G and B/G patters though.

Hadn't thought to do this with my xw5000es but did do it with the hw40es after moving it halfway round the world and it made the image all round better, crisper and brighter

You want the align in the center of the square, the box is affected by the neighbor of the zone your aligning. When both are aligned the box will also be aligned.

Waiting for my 295es and just watched. You are the real deal!!!! I have been looking at reviews for weeks. Love the personal touch. Looks like Sony is keeping there line up the same till next year. Except the top models.... Loved it.

Hi Raf, great tutorial. The only one I could find. Thanks I have question for you, I have VW500ES Sony 4K 3D. I did all red calibration, but for the Blue one from center to the right it's going up and I am -30 on calibration, but will not go more than that. Any hint? Can't fix the Blue. Can you help?

Good material, there's caveat though: how much of an autonomy do these zones have?I suspect you cannot ideally align all zones, because fixing one area is spoiling the other - you cannot disjoin the liquid crystals.

Great educational video!. Question: my panel alignment is great. However, I get some light overspray on the left and right of the screen( maybe 3 inches outside the black frame). It’s mostly obvious when streaming movies. Any idea why and how to fix this ? Much appreciated!

I was curious how your blacklevels are on your Projector, I am trying to decide between a Sony Projector or a Large OLED.

I have the 295ES and I’ve noticed that when I watch 3-D Blu-ray’s I see some ghosting and cross talk. Have you noticed this as well? I can’t figure out if it’s the disk or the projector. I went to see bumblebee in real 3-D over Christmas and noticed that even that commercial project or had some cross talk so maybe it’s just the movie.

@the Rafcave I just got this projector yesterday, what I have notice is whenever I play a 4K movie Blu-ray 4K or stream of external hardrive the movie tends to be dark. When I play 1080p it’s brighter. Is that normal? It replace my Sony 45es which I still have. I have a Sony 4k player and a Denon avr 2300.

Hey, Have you seen Mission impossible fallout yet in 4K? The imax scenes were absolutely unbelievable and it was the best Dolby at most mix I’ve heard yet. I just hope that they release avengers infinity war in IMAX enhanced. That would be the most amazing thing ever to watch an entire movie in IMAX.

This is just moving from one pixel (row or column) to the other. We would physically manipulate the part mechanically with the large venue type projectors. A majority, if not all consumer projectors have their panels physically attached to a frame where you can't tweak it with the cover off the projector. Fussing with the geometry of the image electronically (trapezoidal) limits the resolution across the image. Either the bottom or top, depending on which way you have to go, would be a higher or lower resolution from the top to the bottom. You can eliminate this with the right lens or by mounting the projector straight on.

hi rave , I have had panel alignment issues on a 550es, 4/5 years old, it got so bad had to scrap the PJ, the cost of repair was more than its value. So as you do, I replaced it , and guess what, the same issue is now happening again, the entire grid is out. I'm unable to align the red, blue by zones, the adjustment is at the max 30 on vertical ,still way off, not happy, oh and about the same age as the other Sony. Once they start to go out of alignment it just gets worse, and worse. I have done much research on the forums, and it seems many have had this problem, expensive to fix, and to buy in the first place, my wife said its a lot of wasted money, I have to agree with her at this point. Up until a few mouths ago It was giving a great pictures as did the previous Sony . I have had optima and BenQ in the past 20 or more years, and not any problems at all. Im now looking at going back to either one in 4k obviously, thay may not be a "true 4k" like the Sony, but very good, and very close to the same performance. My last optima I gave to my son, set it up for him and was still amazed at the picture on a 135" screen, he smiled, I didn't, just shook my head, oh well a lesson learned, and a expensive one. I hope you have more luck then I'v had , well time to start my new search.

RAF: Did you encounter some "brightening of contrast"- blacklevels on your Sony? After i bought vw270 (second hand, 1250h on bulp) i read that ppl saying that this happens to the Sony 4K projectors after time: Panels "wear Out" and that might be a reason why there is no good black levels on mine 😐 Sony: gamma and panel drift; Jvc: gamma drift.. peace out!

Hello, I have a Sony VPL-VW500ES Projector. I have tried this process and there is no space to play with numbers to get rid of Blue and Yellow lines. What could be the problem, I don't know. From the left side of the screen goes to the right and the lines bleed more. Any advice appreciated. Thank you

There is a few things i'll add to this that you missed, i know it was 4 years ago, but still relevant. I see you are wearing glasses, it is VERY important to note that the refractive index of the lens in your glasses can cause chromatic aberation, which will make the 3 primary colours seperate if you are looking through the lens on an angle. Looking through your glasses as straight as possible is critical. Having spent more than 20 years aligning and calibrating CRT projectors the glasses issue was a real pain in the arse, especially for ceiling mounted CRTs with full analog convergence adjusted using 50-70 trimpots. Not so much an issue when you can use the remote at the screen, but you still want to be looking from a level or close to level and straight on position, or you're likely to mis-align without realising it. Forget about the circling around the screen in a spiral. Just look at the grid, evaluate the convergence, and adjust as required. No harm in doing it, just seems a big waste of time. Using this feature on a Sony 4K SXRD is not like adjusting a CRT projector where you do not lose any resolution by moving the image around the tubeface to facilitate accurate alignment. The panels do not move when you adjust the zone convergence, the image is is moved on the panel, and from all i can tell this is the same for full screen adjustments too. That said, this would make it just like the old days of keystone correction on digitals, where it reduces the number of useable pixels to draw the image. Agressive adjustment of things like zone convergence is going to have an affect on the overall resolution of whichever panel you're adjusting.
