I have the 6000 for about 2years now and could not justify an upgrade to the 6300 simply for the 4K, which can overheat and the more auto focus points, which may be an overkill. Nice work DD, always a delight getting your opinion.
Studat They didn't just rise the temp tolerance where did you get that idea? And why was it overheating? Because the cpu generated too much heat to dissipate when the environment was also hot?

You arguably do the best reviews on cameras on RU-vid. You always talk about the important stuff but also say things that seem unimportant but might be important for some, you give your personal opinion but still you keep it very objective. Your videos as well as your sound have excellent quality and your voice sounds... Cool :D Now I convinced myself (with your help) to take my 6000 apart tomorrow and maybe I can fix the damaged shutter which makes the camera crash after every exposure. Because it just is a good camera and it would be even better if I'd work properly :D
As a beginner the A6000 is probably more camera than I will ever need. I picked it up for $500 around Christmas. I could not justify the price of the 6300. I think if I was going to spend more money on a body I would strongly consider full frame. I would look hard at the A7rii but that is so ridiculously out of my price range it's not even really worth dreaming about.
An additional note after more experience with the Sigma lens: I like it much more than originally. My Sony 50mm/f1.8 prime is still my favorite for AF performance and overall image quality, but 50mm on the A6000's APS-C sensor is a bit long for casual shooting involving people. I've played around a lot with the A6000's settings, and I've been able to get the Sigma to perform much better. I'm quite happy with it now. Its AF is acceptable, if just a bit slower and rougher than the Sony, and the distortion is easily corrected in Lightroom. I may check out Sigma's MC11 mount converter and a few of their other lenses based on my satisfaction with this 30mm/f1.4.
I've recently bought an A6000 bundled with the 16-50 and 55-210 "kit" lenses, along with a bunch of accessories, for under $800. A week later, I added the 50mm/f1.8 prime lens. I agree with everything you say in this video. The A6000 is exactly what I hoped it would be...small, lightweight, and VERY capable of sharp pix and videos. Had the 6300 been $100 or maybe $200 more, I may have considered it more heavily. But at OVER double the price (considering deals available on the 6000, but not much at all on the 6300), I couldn't see spending the money. The 6000 is perfect for me now and for a long foreseeable future. Maybe a few years down the road when Sony comes out with a new whiz-bang compatible camera body that sets the market on fire, I'll take the plunge on that. But for now, I'm very pleased with my 6000, and especially the performance with the 50mm lens!
Exactly what I did apart from buying a Sigma 30mm 1.4. Could not justify paying so much more for the a6300 when this camera has basically the same results.
I bought a Nikon D500 last Christmas and saw A6000 on sale so bought one for kid. Nine months later, that Nikon D500 is still in the box. I bought a metabones speedbooster converter so I can use all my manual Nikon lenses without cropping effect. For taking still pictures, I am very impressed by the body lightness, EVF, focus peaking and get this, adjustable EVF so I don't need to wear far sight glasses. It's an old model without in body stabilization so recommend using higher speed. Being a loyal Nikon user for 40 years, this little camera converted me. Both A6000 and A6500 camera bodies are great, the key is to use decent lens. I recommend Rokinon 8mm, Zeiss 55mm, Sigma 30mm and Sony 85mm. For travel, Sony 18-200mm zoom is a good choice. No need to buy costly and bulky g master, overkill for most users. Legacy Nikon Leica or Cannon lenses work great also. My favorites are Nikon 135mm f2 AIS, 50mm f1.4 AIS and 35mm f2 AI. Lensbaby and Voightlander are good too. Being able to use lenses from different makers is a joy I really appreciate using this A6000. Unless video is your priority I recommend A6000 and spend the saving for lens; actually for taking good video Sony RX100 V is a great alternative.

I switched to the 6300 from the 6000 shortly after it came out , but with little use the a6300 broke on me and I went back to the cheaper a6000 again. great cameras , but yea, most people can save a lot and shoot the 6000, its great.

Ordered earlier this week with a 30mm 1.8 E mount. I had come to about the same conclusion it seems. Part of my reason was the cornucopia of technical help via articles generated by it successful life cycle so far.
Got my a6000 a couple of years ago, still love it. I find it interesting that the price hasn't really dropped since its successor came out (like the ax33 did when the ax53 came out). Still looking forward to a vg20-style camcorder with 4k to come out -- I may be waiting a while...
The great thing is the price and it's getting even cheaper with the a6500 coming out. A great choice for those wishing to jump on the aps-c bandwagon from a camera phone.

I've had my a6000 w/35mm since fall. My activity pretty much reflects that I rarely use video, and my shots have been pleasing. My gameplan is to invest in a stupidly good FE lense(s) next and shoot with that for while, and see if the A7iii improves upon the 'cons' per se, of the a6300.
The A6000, which I just bought, also has an eye cup. I also purchased the 35mm 1.8 OSS lens on sale for $399. And for stills, it's pretty much the same as the A6300. I don't do a whole lot of video, so for me it's not too much of a compromise.
The one I have has OSS stabilization, the other one doesn't. As far as the difference between quality of the glass, not sure. There may be some comparisons on youtube or you can Google it. I took it out last night, great in low light.
It is a good starter, though one thing that you forgot to mention is the ISO. a6300 has a much better ISO than a6000. Switching to a A6300 from A6000 because of that. Had the A6000 for 10 months
for me, i would say 4k in a little bit overkill just because my computer, i dont think it is capable to process it. so, ill go with a6000. great review

I've been thinking about stepping into the world of DSLRs/Mirrorless cameras. I'm not looking to do professional photography, but I am looking for a nice camera to play with while still being capable of doing professional work if I ever felt the need to (for RU-vid or a personal collection). I was introduced to the A6000 at my local Best Buy, and after some research, I've began leaning towards the Canon 80D. Of course, most comparisons are done between the 80D and the A6300, but I'm wondering how the a6000 compares directly to the 80D. I like the color science and the picture quality that the 80D produces, but the a6000 is $500 cheaper. I also read that Canon lenses are cheaper and have a wider variety (if I ever felt the need to purchase a lens). What is your input on this? Thanks!
shaolin95 I will mostly buy it for videos not pictures, i know camcorder are better for videos but they don't have APS-C sensor. The new 1" sensor 4K camcorder not big enough for videos, i need better quality and more light. I might end up getting Sony FDR-AX53
shaolin95 Yeah i understand because that camera do cost a lot. $1000 for the body plus better lens can make the price go up to $1600 or $1700. I think Sony FDR-AX53 is pretty good for a camcorder. Have you try it?
i had this for video, takes good video, but it does overheat if you use it for more than 15 minutes, in almost any mode, and it doesn't matter if you take small brakes or do lots of small clips, it would just overheat, then shut down, you get to turn it on again in 2 minutes then you get 5 more minutes till it overheats again
I was actually checking this out because I follow your page and know that your main camera is this one. To me, the a6000 has amazing video quality but what some people don't understand is that to get the most out of these cameras, you gotta give them that edit love. I use a Canon 60D that also came out like 2 years ago and its still top notch. At least to me.
Would the sony a6000 be a good first proper camera choice for me coming from only using the camera on my iPhone 6, i mainly focus on taking video like the ones on my channel, thanks for the answers...

im also new to photography and wanted a camera to take a pic of my kids/family. i purchased the nikon d3300. Im mesmerized by the auto focus and want the a6500. But since im still learning i sold my nikon d3300 and going to purchase the a6000.
Do you guys think its worth to upgrade my a6000 to a6300 for 4k alone? Or should I just buy a good lens instead? I'm still using the kit lens and I can still produce amazing cinematic scenes with it! If you guys have time please check out my vids, I shoot mainly with a6000!
Come on the 6300 is a bit of a joke. Over heats and shocking rolling shutter. Fuji XT2 blows this out of the water. Sony should stop pumping out camera's weekly and just make the ones they do release work as advertised.
I have the Sony a6000. I still have 7 days to return it. I mainly take pictures and take videos very rare. Image wise, which one is better and makes more sense for the money: a6000, a6300, or the a6500?
I would recommend the a6000 but it's screen doesnt flip up all the way like the g7x. And that can be a major deal breaker when vlogging as you can't see yourself.
I have the A6000 and use it for the equivalent of a vlog and think it's great. My solution to the lack of a 180 flip screen was to buy a Feelworld FW-760 screen from Amazon for around £130. Because it's 7 inches you can really see how you look and check for the correct exposure settings etc far better than any small swivel screen. Even with the additional cost it's still cheaper than buying a more expensive DSLR just for the sake of a flip screen. The one unfortunate disadvantage of the A6000 is that on movie mode, the camera controller app for your mobile phone (Playmemories mobile) will not work. This is a mild inconvenience but could be a deal breaker if you feel it's important. Overall for the price, your getting a lot of camera and some amazing features. If you're vlogging onto RU-vid then 4k is virtually pointless as many people watch on their mobile phones and which computers/laptops have 4k monitors? Hope this helps.
