I'm also stoked for actual good ARM chips coming to the Windows Ecosystem, and this is a great start. However, intel is showing some life in the space of thin and light + performance per watt in their upcoming Lunar Lake chips. I'm pretty impressed with how much work intel has put into the Lunar Lake architecture to compete within this space.
The x elite processors have proven to be extremely powerful within optimized software, once adobe releases full arm versions and Qualcomm releases updated drivers I believe that these laptops would be more than capable of content creation
It's interesting. I have a surface pro 11. Currently, what I'm missing is arm native VLC and acrobat reader. VLC is in work but very buggy. Part of what made Windows tablet so cool was that everything worked. I'm not sure where Snapdragon fits. I also wonder if Lunar Lake will put these out of business.
Did anyone find a solution? Unfortunately just happened to my Zfold3 today. Thought I had a virus and ended up buying a 2 year McAfee subscription with no luck. Wifi still doesn't work
Fantastic video. As an early adopter myself, all this has done for me is believe the future is only going to get better for us, the consumer! Loving my Machine (Surface 7 XPlus) Great screen, fantastic battery life, great speakers etc etc.. Just needs driver updates for the GPU as it is the biggest let down of these machines for me currently.
I hope that the mediocre Adreno graphics are a result of poor driver optimization, because then it can easily be fixed through an update. Mind you, the adreno graphics actually fare very well in arm optimized benchmarks, so it could also be possible that Microsoft never prioritized delivering good graphics emulation through prism, something that could also improve with time.
This goes to show how many people probably buy a laptop that's capable of doing way more than they need it to do but sacrifice battery life and added weight. Nice that you get the good CPU performance and battery life now. My laptop needs have changed. I ended up going for the Galaxy Book 4 Edge 16 inch. I use my laptop for media consumption and social media, web browsing, emails, DMs and writing comments and articles. Love the big 3k OLED display and 10 plus hours of battery life and it runs cool enough that I can actually use it on my lap. I think the mistake that Qualcomm made was not releasing Dev Kits ahead of time to get developers to optimize their software before releasing the laptops to the consumers. That's something where Apple's shift to Apple Silicon was smart with the Mac Mini dev kits. Most software was ready out the gate or shortly there after. I hope that with the popularity of the X Plus and X Elite, video editing software and photo editing applications will be optimized soon. I couldn't get Capcut to launch, so I am looking for something else. I have been just recording and uploading from my iPhone, so I can make due with that, for the time being. Curious to see how the journey into the Windows on ARM goes and how quickly developers get on board. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Great video!
I think the precedent that Apple set with the M1's release kind of ruined the expectations that Windows device users had for the Qualcomm Snapdragon CPUs. It's a step in the right direction and has time to mature and improve as more manufacturers provide input and applications get fine tuned to work natively with ARM. I think waiting out 1-2 more generations will be enough to recommend these devices as stable machines for any type of user. Fingers crossed
The software incompatibility issue doesn't seem to be effecting office work software. These devices are for HR, Product Managers, Data Analysts, Data Entry, front desk employees, Photo Editors, UI/UX designers etc. For most people who buy laptops and work in an office, great battery life is THE number one spec, second to being able to run Chrome well. I think spec chasers (especially those who are also PC gamers) are very detached from the overwhelming magority's needs when it comes to laptops. Mind you, I say this as someone who knows X Elite ARM PCs aren't for me due to current day compatibility issues (I do software development and video editing via Resolve). I think these X Elite laptops are great for the purpose they were made for and advertised as.
I’m looking forward to copilot being able to assist you with things happening on your screen. That’ll be awesome for learning new programs and debugging for coding
Honestly I use this for my podcast never once it over heat..I record for 30 plus minutes with the 4k codac 30fps long side the a7vi.its hacks as well like keeping the screen away from the body and the sd card open..
I got this machine, my 2 cents: - Clean install windows, - Spent like 30GB to dualboot with linux, just to compare ur experience with what happened to ur hard drives (I do this, so I am sure if both OS failed means something went erong with my drives). Also in linux you have lots of options to debug what happened wrong with ur drives. My only problems with this machine so far is I need to install a custom linux kernel to get my keyboard backlight control work properly, other than that, all almost perfect. I even play shadow of the tomb raider in linux and results in significant performance increase (i hv no idea why, the fans are quiter in linux) and I can reach 128fps in average for full ultra graphics setting, despite it runs in with proton.
I understand that Android will no longer be available on Windows. In fact, it is closed access and will be shut down at the end of the year. So, that is no longer a positive for Windows and lessens the tablet's ability. At this price, I recommend something like an X Elite HP or VIVOBOOK and a Tab S9 combo for a superior laptop and tablet experience.
We need an ongoing software incompatibility list for x86/x64 emulation on ARM as it’s important buyers are fully informed. E.g. Google Drive desktop client doesn’t run at all, which is a dealbreaker for many.
Hi , great video as always with best wishes for the best ! Though pls can u make a comparison between the surface pro 11 oled with iPad Pro m4 oled ! I have a friend of mine who bought the iPad Pro m4 oled and he is not happy with the new oled screen, when he plays RU-vid or Netflix there is a slight green color or yellow on people skins, and this issue is with iPhones in general ,so hopefully wish to see a comparison between the both devices to see which is the best Oled screens and thank you 😃
Hi Ed, I have a very silly question for you. I have this lens and love it very much, particularly how sharp it is. I have it paired with my A7RV and love all the detail it can capture. But there is a part of me that wonders is the 35 mm GM significantly sharper? I know that is both bright brighter and has fewer optical flaws, but is it also significantly sharper? Sharpness is my number one priority. Appreciate any and all detailed feedback you might be able to give. Regardless, thank you for your incredible content.
I have a $350 Lenovo Chromebook that has excellent build quality, all aluminum body and an excellent screen and keyboard. It's hard for me not to recommend Lenovo laptops. The build quality is better than my $1400 Asus VivoBook pro OLED
I don’t see the benefit of getting this over the Surface Laptop. Like, I never see any videos highlighting the Surface Pro capabilities as a standalone tablet. Someone else brought up MS removed the “tablet mode” toggle from Windows as well. So seems like more a laptop than a tablet even from Microsoft’s perspective. I want to pick up one of these (Surface Pro or Laptop), but only benefit I see of this over the Laptop, is the availability of the OLED screen. What am I missing here?
Tablet mode is still there and can be set to automatic. It will change Taskbar to have more spacing and add collapsible mode. If you will always use it as a laptop with keyboard attached then sure laptop is better fit. Drawing with pen or reading magazines/docs, might be better use case without keyboard. It's also lot lighter than laptop without keyboard but go 4 is even lighter for that but not as powerful.
The reason tablet mode button is gone is that everything is now automatic and seamless. You can get the same window management feature via touch dedicated snapbar, and tablet-optimized taskbar is on when you use the device as a tablet
Does the Surface Pro match the performance of the Surface Laptop 15? or at least close? I am considering the Pro 11 but it's still kind of small and I'm not sure about the cooling.
The performance is about the same between the Pro 11 and Laptop 15 models. I got the base model ($999 with X Plus with 16GB ram and 256GB SSD, but I upgraded to a 1TB SSD). It's basically silent and runs at most lukewarm for my use cases (casual computing and software development). The fans turned on once while I was installing Visual Studio, but that installer makes Intel machines sound like they are preparing for lift off. 🤣
Hello, yoga Slim 7X X Elite 32GB vs M2 Pro 16GB Iam currently deciding which machine to get but aim kinda unsure. Iam a cs student and software developer and the machine should def be powerful enough for my workload.
I didn’t understand how you related this product to apple products, they can co exist , the market is large. Those is a different product than what apple do.
I see a lot of commentary about iPadOS, especially from Mac-focused Apple pundits that is so wrong. Much of it is largely outdated and/or just a reflection of a lack of actual experience using the most recent versions of iPadOS. Additionally such commentary is often lacking in an awareness of what apps are now available on iPadOS. I make a living using the Affinity suite of design apps: Publisher, Designer, Photo and those are full "desktop class" apps on the iPad. I have no problem editing large spreadsheets with thousands of rows. I regularly create, update and manage client websites using a code editor called Textastic. And the M series iPad Pros have no problem editing 4K video with DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, and Luma Fusion. That's just a tiny sampling. I've been enjoying your videos (though I'm not a Windows user) but I do think the quality of the information you're sharing would benefit if you were more informed of what's possible with the latest iPadOS. I can't speak to the others as I have no experience there.
It made a lot of good points but then I got confused when I get confused when you say Apple doesn't offer any type of OLED they really do. And a offer mini LED as far as a computers go though I don't know if they offer any mini LED screens. In general I'm happy for the surface because they need to push the iPad forward or an iPad just needs to die. At this point pro iPass and iPad Air should have dual boot. If they don't want to do that they should have created a software that is a hybrid of both a computer and a tablet. Because we finally reached the point where you get to see a tablet do computer stuff to the fullest extent. No software holding them back. Also dare why we got the m4 instead of the M3 because of how good the chip was. They would have been behind and that's why I love competition because people have to do better when they up against better.
Since the micro led screens from the iPad Pro made their way to the MacBook pros screen….I would imagine they are going to replace the screens on the MacBooks with the tandem OLED screens….it could be this year….just saying
