I own that camera since 2 weeks for macro videography stuff. I love it. It shut down twice during my 5 days of testing, mostly in 4k 60p, so I think it's fine. In the Philippines by the way. cheers! 🖖😃

I have the a6700 and the trick to not let it overheat, is to turn it off between the shots. It gets the same amount of hotness whether it is only on or if you recording, no difference. Not a big problem for me, but it gets really hot sometimes. I really love this camera, it is a beast for both video and photo. And the autofocus is spot on everytime! Excellent for solo creators, when you have to rely on the autofocus.

I actually did own the A6700 for a month. I loved the camera, but it did overheat on me. My work flow was 4k30 video 4.2.2. Slog3, standard profile, and S-Cinerone. I stream sometimes for a hour to an hour and a half consulting video interviews. Sometimes I need to record events for a hour and a half. What I found is that I would need a fan and drop it to 4k 24 to even have a chance. So for me I had to return it. Currently thinking about the A7C II. I haven’t heard of any over heating issues with that camera.

I think for that kind of work you need the FX30 or the FX3.

I intended to use the A6700 to record performances that could be a bit over an hour in a warm room, I got the A6700 to test under similar conditions to what I would be recording in and it tended to overheat at a little over an hour (4K30 10 bit, screen away from the back) I did try out the Fuji X-S20 and it ran for 2hr 20min in the same room at the same temperature. At least from my testing the X-S20 was better at not overheating. I know I could get a dedicated cinema cam but I also was wanting a backup camera to my A7iv.

I thought the main concern was if taking the camera to anywhere in the southern hemisphere was that the dials would work backwards 😊. Appreciate you sharing your experience. The only time I have heard of the 6700 overheating was inside (so no breeze or airflow) and longer sessions like 25 minutes as you noted. If my memory is correct that was also at 60 fps, so not an issue for more casual use.

@gordon3988, if the dials start working backwards as you cross the equator, go to MENU -> Setup -> [Dial Customize] -> [Av/Tv Rotate] -> and you can reverse the the direction of the front or rear dial or control wheel back to your ‘normal’. Your other option is to unpair your camera from your phone so your phone doesn’t access GPS data, so it doesn’t know to flip the dials.

Small camera is not reliable for long duration video shooting. My ZVE10 overheated once when I was doing video shooting for client in 1080p and in short duration each clip around 5 minutes! I remembered that was a Sunny morning. Luckily I had my a6500 beside me as a backup camera! Recently I bought a Sony a6700 I managed to shoot 1080P video for over 20 minutes without overheating issue! Anyway I am still very cautious about it!

Last summer I had my Fujifilm X-S20 overheat by just taking pictures - granted it was the hottest day of the year in my city with roughly 44 degrees. I just wanted to document the day. After 30 minutes it gave me a overheating warning.

it does overheat, that's about it. You can shot up to 3 house continuously with the 6400, 6500, 6600, ZVE10 but NOOT DEFINITELY NOT WITH THIS! It doesn't matter how many things you do to avoid it, it just overheats.

Hi Matti, it's a good idea to test a Camera before you buy, we do this when we buy a Car. Especially with so many features in new cameras today. In years gone by it wasn't that important to test a camera before you bought one as there weren't that many features in cameras, great point Matti. Thanks for this video, enjoy Melbourne. 😊

Matti, you‘re in Australia. My Olympus gets warm to hot too, taking photos and leaving the camera ON. Just don‘t use it for 10 minutes or so, until it cools down. My Sony a7ii also does, and so does my Nikon D7500. We live in a hot 🔥 climate, though this summer has been rather wet! Melbourne particularly has terrible high humidity, as does Sydney and Brisbane. They‘re near the sea. Keep an eye out for mould and rust.

The Firmware 1.03 is rumored to have fixed the overheating. You need to use a dummy battery with the A6700 and you can't have the screen set to daylight brightness. Also, adding a metal camera cage and 15mm NATO rails helps get rid of heat by increasing TDP.

@@bristolreiki I think the overheating thing is overblown. First off, all Sony cameras that size have overheated after hours. This is not a 60fps for hours camera. No. I bought the Tilta cage with cooling solution for $165 and that works just fine. How often do you need to record 3 hours long interviews? I bought an FX30 for this. I also bought the ZV-E1 and that is also pretty similar but would I rather pay more for the FX3? I just can't do that.

My A6700 overheats every time when shooting 4K (even at 30fps). I'm in Malaysia, I mostly do event video shooting indoors. I can't record more than 5 minutes without pausing, or else my camera will turn itself off due to high internal temperature. While waiting for my camera to cool down, I have to use my smartphone, which can record 4K 60P without overheating. I spent over RM10k on this camera but still have to rely on my phone's camera which is 1/10th the price. I feel stupid for believing those who claimed "sony won't overheat" before I purchased this camera.

I have been thinking to buy this camera and sony 70-350 lens for birds. It is terrible expensive for me so hard to decide. But if it overheats for video under 30 mins here in finland I think it is not for me. But I have experienced that overheating also depends of memory cards. When Pocket 3 came out the same camera overheated under 5 minutes depending of the SD card and with other SD card it recorded 30 minutes. The same camera different SD card. Anyway DJI optimized the software via firmware and it never overheats anymore. Just thinking could SD card effect also these mirrorless cameras. I shoot family pics and videos here in northern finland. Nothing serious but if I cant shoot like 1 hour video it changes my mind. I use Pocket 3 for longer videos. It never overheats can record over 2 hour 4k 50 10bit without any issues. I have Canon 250D small DSLR for stills with 4 lens. Been thinking to sell my Canon gear (lens are all Canon brands) and change to A6700. Mostly because the animal and bird focusing system and I think Sony has a lot experience with mirrorless. But I would also use A6700 for stills. So many people seems to have sigma 2.8 like you but thinking also E 16-55 mm F2,8 G or some prime. Dont know prime lenses that are lightweight, quiet etc.. Anyways! Changing whole gear is very problematic because of the insane prise. But I dont like the Canon mirrorless style. Those cameras a kinda big.
@mattisulanto

@@mattisulanto Well, if the "hybrid" cameras often overheat, if rhey was only for video, then there would be no problems. You are saying when you do that or that it can overheat, but what is the point with your title? Are you click baiting? There are believable tests on YT and they show when you running the A6700 with 50/60 fps on 4k its overheating after more than 1h. So when you are not a hipster on YT with 5 min shots and shooting i.e. a conference it doesn't work.

You people are delusional! His point was, the majority of the RU-vidrs, reviewing this camera, are using metrics based on pro standards!!! I shoot professionally and understood from the get-go that this camera was for those that love taking pics, and video in casual sense..Dude, I live in Tempe, Arizona. I also shoot sports videography. For the games I use my FX3 or FX30. Usually, I put the A6700 on a gimbal and do player interviews after games with it. ( the quality is unbelievable).. Mind you, these are 10-15 minute interviews at 4k30…I rarely turn the cam off between shots.. I have NEVER had the camera cut off! In 90° + weather, mind you! Because of these YT vids, I also purchased the newest Ulanzi fan, but many times I forget to use it… again, 90% of us will be fine with this A6700 cam.. so sick of these folks, following the RU-vid trends. Rent one and try it for yourself!!🤔
