@@calihawk82100% agree. And to be real this is the biggest issue as a content creator who just started looking into cameras that I’ve noticed with the online camera community. They never include the actual price to set these up
To me, I would have picked the A6700 if it wasn't cheaper. I like the AI functions, and I think I can make do with a pre-calculated list of shutter angles, gaining a view finder and a shutter and smaller size. But I have misplaced my Sony digital microphone.
For me, it's worth it. I work in the tropics and dry forests of Bolivia where it regularly gets into the 40's C. I need to know it won't overheat, and it never has.
Thanks for the comparison! I've been comparing all the current options in that price bracket (FX30, A7IV, ZV-E1 and A6700) and it seems like A6700 might just be the best move for me.
I started getting more serious with RU-vid and my street soccer events company. I do events for schools, churches, soccer clubs, and bday parties. I bought Sony ZV E10 w/kit lens, Sigma 16, and Sigma 56, along with DJI Mini 3 Pro and DJI RS3 Mini to get me started. I recieved Sony Gmaster 85mm F1.4 and Bestbuy Total Tech as gift for Christmas. I feel like it doesn't line up with current direction. Would appreciate your wisdom. It's my side hustle but want to build momentum. Would you trade Gmaster for FX30 or 6700 if in my shoes? I considered trading for Tamron Zoom lens but experienced rolling shutter in wedding I was asked to do (1st one) for a friend with ZVE10...even though they loved the video... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o9DbfZHuWJU.html That said, I believe trading lens for camera that seems to serve purpose with Current 3 lens and growing business makes more sense. Thoughts?
Thanks for this video! You have helped me more than anyone over the last few years. I am just going through the process of choosing my first “Big Boy” camera and I’ve narrowed it down to the 6700 or FX30. There are some features I’d really like to have from the 6700 but you have confirmed that the FX30 is the one for me. Thanks again Joe!
What a timing, I’m writing while watching your video so I do apologize in advance if I will say something that you will mention in this video.I have both of them FX30 as main and A6700 as my B cam, they both are phenomenal for their price. As “video creator” I would choose FX30 any day of the week, it feels beefier compared to A6700 in good way, placements of buttons on top is much better and possibility to control clear image zoom without remapping anything, two SD cards(more is better can be applied here).and regular HDMI port( but you would still need a clamp as HDMI cable doesn’t fit snug and wobbles like crazy). And of course fan, I never had issues with overheating on A6700, but if you are filming handheld outside in cold weather, go with A6700 so you can save some $$ on hand warmers. From my experience I would recommend people if they have bigger budget to get both of them instead of buying anything like FX3 or rent both cameras for a week and see which camera will fit you better. Every time I switch from one camera to another I have smile on my face, it’s like having 2 favorite cars with different body type, driving characteristics and one of them have heated seats that unfortunately can’t be disabled without buying extra cooling pad 😂. But they share same engine and transmission, don’t mind me, that’s just my analogy lol. At the end of the day if you choose to join “Sony Ecosystem “ you can’t go wrong with any of those 2 camera. Don’t get into the rabbit hole of finding best camera that can do everything, you won’t find it, every camera has some flaws and there always will be something better, don’t focus on it, experiment with different brands. Enjoy your journey, create and share your story 😉 P.S your videos are as always very informative and helpful.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I have both cameras as well and love the eco system of lenses and accessories. Yes you are right. You can’t go wrong with either of these Sony cameras
Mine FX30 is also rigged and weighs a bit over 4 kilogram with every attachment. I spent some time to make sure nothing is blocking any buttons or ports as my rig does look like Frankenstein, but it makes my workflow much smoother. A6700 is mostly used on gimbal, I feel like it’s so much easier to balance it on DJI RS3, or handheld when I need to capture fast dynamic movements, FX30 when I need stable handheld. I can’t think of other duo that would be able to cover all my needs in the same price range. And thank you for mentioning cages. For me they are necessity. I made sure to add cage when I was purchasing cameras. For me it’s cheapest camera insurance you can buy that, on top of that they do improve your grip especially on A6700 as it has smaller body and gives you possibility to modify your build, FX30 cage has more potential in terms of customization if you want to buy inexpensive cinema rig, but you can also build decent rig for 6700 if you want.
The A6700 seems to add more sharpening in camera and there seems to be a difference in exposure and white balance on a lot of the shots aswell. But can't tell if that's an issue with the auto modes on the camera. Especially the sot at: 22:41 There's a lot more blur on the background on the FX30 as if the lens is opened up more. Also the cage discussion sounds a bit contradicting "you can get a cage for the 6700, but that defeats the purpose of the smaller body, 5 seconds later "but buy a cage for both anyway"
This was a great comparison. Nicely done and explained. 👏 I remember watching some reviews and comparison videos about the same topic a few months ago. We ended up purchasing the Sony a6700 because of it's compact form factor, the electronic view finder for photography scenarios, auto-focus on more subjects, and the AI-chip which we thought it was a huge plus for future ideas and contents for our channel. I don't think anyone would go wrong on choosing one over the other. Both cameras are exceptionally great. A little recommendation for anyone undecided, go over this thorough video comparison and narrow it down to your needs or foreseen goals. This will help you a lot on your selection. Good luck!
even with the quiz. i still wanted to checkout the zve10 mark 2. pound for pound a6700 is the best bang for the buck. kit lense for 100 bucks. binged all your videos over the past month. your videos are awesome.
Am still hooked up with my Sony ZV -e10. Making good use of the capabilities ad abilities. Hopefully in the distant future, will move up. For now, am happy with it. What are the complexities of the FX30?
Very good comparison! I bought an A6700 to compliment my FX30, but returned within a week. It did not feel nearly as well built as the FX30 and tend to be pretty hard on my gear. The lack of joystick was a bigger issue that I thought it would be. Lastly, one thing you didn't mention is that you cannot shoot video in Flexible Exposure Mode on the A6700. I have all of my Sony cameras set up that way and it saves so much time when making changes on the fly. The A6700 is a fine camera, but had too many compromises for my use case.
Thanks for the video… i am still confused between a6700 and 15 pro max… one offers brilliant picture quality and other is your on the go phone camera… let’s see going through lots of comparison videos for now..
Just wanna add i already have iphone 12 which does most of the job for me.. i want to take my photography to next level.. so probably i will go for sony a6700 with sigma 2.8 18-50
Love the inclusion of Sigma 18-50, since Im really tempted to sell my 16mm and 56mm for. You are my to go guy when looking for straight forward opinion. Would be nice if you included the settings you used while shooting when you have side by side videos with lens in the middle.
You'd have to consider that the 18-50mm is not weather sealed. Sony 16-55mm f2.8 is pricey, is bigger, is quite a challenge to balance it on a gimbal, but it is weather sealed.
This looked like a film itself with the sound design. Time stamp 2:52 Could you please share the name name or link of the tripod you are using for the top down shot?
How's the image quakity between the two and colour? Cause I have heard FX30 matches the colour from FX6 and it's sharper than FX3, The question is, does A6700 has the same dynamic range, colours and sharpness?
I am using 15mm on my a6700 and take a lot of videos at car shows but catch myself needing just a little wider but I need it to be as good as the 15mm Sony is there any thing like that,Durn thing over heated for the first time ,it was 55f outside and had the screen open, did have a mic hooked up and was on a gimbal,,,,,,,,,,, 4k 60 went 45 minutes do you think that is all I am going to get out of it..
Why not just buy both? You’d get a great photo/ video combo for around $3k. Also both cameras compliment each other nicely and make up for the other’s shortcomings ( a6700’s mechanical shutter makes up for the FX30’s lack of one and the FX30’s fan makes up for the a6700’s overheating problems).
Thank you very much for the video friend, I am also debating between the Sony a6700 and the Sony Fx30 and that is my dilemma, currently my strength is portrait photography giving it a cinematic style, 2 years ago I started creating audiovisual content, focused on cinema. I want to make some short films, documentaries, weddings, etc. but without leaving my photography behind. What would you recommend?
Thank you for all of the positive feedback. Thats actually a great question. I created a camera quiz to help you figure out which camera is best for what you are using it for. Have you taken it yet?
wow i never put down a commnent but mate this review is amazing finaly a really good review on both cameras! great job and thanks! helps a lot! Im using the A7r3 for photo and some videos but i think its not that great for videos. Im looking to buy some budget camera that can record good quality videos for my hubby. Hard to get one xD i think i would go with the A6700 because i shoot photos too! little intimidated with the FX30 :D Thanks!
Yes, hear you. I mean you could really go with either of those cameras but I prefer the a6700. It’s S-log3 footage would match up with your A7r3 log footage fairly well. The last thing that you want to happen when you’re shooting with two cameras is not be able to match up the colors and post production. I’ve had that happen quite a few times where I’m wrestling with the color wheels to try to get the colors to match back up. Just my two cents
great informative video. Question how to enable dual iso I'm guessing if you switch to one of the picture profiles it becomes enabled. I don't know for sure maybe you can help me here. Thanks
hey, love ur each video..... plz suggest to me b/w Canon R50 and Nikon z30(I'm okay without EVF)....for travel, and family photography......which one of these is better?
Thats actually a great question. I created a camera quiz to help you figure out which camera is best for what you are using it for. Have you taken it yet?
Do you find that the 18-135 is worth having ,I use the A6700 and filming carmeets and I use the f1.4 15mm but 18-135 is cheap on the used market, how could it help. Some times the 15mm is to wide but around so many people at these show it is the only way to go..have 24-70gmii on my A7iv the best setup for pictures
I’d go with the FX30 for its fan. Thats actually a great question. I created a camera quiz to help you figure out which camera is best for what you are using it for. Have you taken it yet?
@@thefilmallianceFrom what I can find, Sony has a dearth of power zoom lenses that are available. And some are soft, based on YT reviews. They miss OSS. I am primarily a videographer and would use an A6700 for videos over photos. But I want optical zoom at my fingertips, not manually.
In India the Summers temperature go around 45 degrees.. i am really concern of heat in a6700...should i consider Fuji Xs20 , a6700 or A7c..i am geeting all these in almost same price...pls consider heating as one of the most..significant criteria...A7c is tested..from a long time by my firiends..but it has less features..pls help
I live in a very hot state in Mexico, extremely humid where temperatures go around the 45 degrees as yours. I used the 6700 professionaly since release and it had never overheated on me not once. I own both the ulanzi and a chinese fan just for piece of mind but i berely used them at all. For my use case its perfect as i dont do really long shootings like a wedding. What i do is a lot of restaurant client work and corporate videos and interviews.
Dual card slot is everything for professional wedding videographer. Can you imagine you only has 1 card slot and after the wedding then you realize your card is corrupt? 😂😂😂 If you were not profesional videographer is no reason to pick fx30, a6700 is perfect option
FX30 is absolutely worth the extra cost in long run. During an event shoot, others' full frame hybrids shutdown from overheat and FX30 still running for hours. It's simply built as a proper video camera.
And then there's Xperia 1 that can record 4K/120fps video on all three cameras since Mk4. I don't deny either A6700 or FX30 will produce far better photo quality than the Xperia. But if I only care about videography, I may as well go compact with the Xperia. This is still not an easy decision to make.
FX30 is my ‘A’ video camera, and the a6700 is my ‘A’ photography camera. The FX30 is rigged out, and the a6700 is great from r gimbal work. Thanks for the comparison.
Your video editing skills are truly impressive! The way you blend color grading and S-Cinetone PP brings a unique and professional look to your content. It would be great to see more videos focusing on practical video editing techniques, alongside your awesome cinematography. Your passion shines through in your work, and I'm eagerly waiting for your next creation. Keep inspiring us!
Afterthought: I've never dropped a camera. Not even the smallest and most slippery one, the RX100V. I don't ever operate without a wrist strap. Even on the A7IV, I used only a wrist strap. Those will hold fairly hefty cameras with minimal fuss, and you don't use it as a carry, only as a safety.
I’m having heating problems with my a6700 only when shooting 4k 120fps i bought an external fan it did help a little bit now im planing to buy the fx30
This damn guy is the GOAT!! So comprehensive in his assessment. Thanks bro!! You helped me make a decision! I’m about to get on back into my RU-vid channel again. A6700 is the one for me. Great video!!
Great video! Is it any chance you Will try to do astrophotography with 6700 and the 13 mm viltrox?i am pretty curious if its Any good as i want tò buy a camera for nature photography and ocasionaly astrophotography. Keep doing great videos!
Bro, sorry about this, but, are you really not aware that those cameras have the same sensor? You spent half the video comparing de facto the same camera in terms of picture )))
The best video 🤠 i own both, and after testing the 6700 it overheated fairly quickly, then u realise the fx30 is the camera that you can rely on, not the 6700.
@@thefilmalliance I'd use the camera professionally but for myself. I'm a consultant:trying to grow my brand and build a RU-vid channel, and I want a versatile camera for mainly video use with some photography. Recording on my Pixel 8 pro gets hot at 40 minutes, and I've heard mixed opinions regarding the a6700 overheating issue. I used to use a 6400 for live streaming with no issue. I'd like to do the same with the 6700 if possible for all an day stream. Could I reduce the recording quality to eliminate the heat issue?
So meticulously done comparison. Incredibly useful. I just wish there were more side by side footage comparisons and photograph samples. Thank you so much for bringing these awesome and useful videos for us audience that can't otherwise match these cameras against each for such nuanced match points! 😊
Very nice analysis. Been looking for an alternative for a project for video in a hot environment. Had a camera overheat this week at the end of a shoot with some talent and it was very embarrassing and frustrating.
I repurposed an extra Canon C100 I wasn't using and able to use my EF lens. It has a fan built in. Adapted a flat plate mount and some extra ventilation. If that doesn't work, I'll probably buy the FX30.
One correction at 3:34 The FX30 was released in 2022. (I'm guessing you were using a template?) Excellent video. Great job at showing the strengths in both cameras. I'm still looking at the a6700 as a possible b-cam. Although, I am considering on adding a full frame camera to my gear. Not sure which one yet, as full frame cameras in each brand have their ups and downs. That being said, I think my FX30 is here to stay. It is an incredible camera.
