Thank you for this. Own the 7C and looking at the 200-600. Appreciate the honest review of pairing them up. "In so deep with this stuff" -- I hear ya brother!

I LOVE your excitement!!! I hope you got a least a couple of hits from my mention. Your excitement is AWESOME!! At 4:18, you nail it when you say you are happy with the photos you are getting. I was out a couple of weeks ago with an old DSLR that I have, and old D750 that is only 24 megapixels. I have not used that camera in a really long time and was impressed with the images I was able to get. It is all about the lens but mostly the passion of the person behind the lens. Enjoy your Sony - it as an awesome camera. The Sony platform is amazing at both video and photos. Like you shorts but really look forward to seeing these longer videos!! Thank you for sharing. 🙏🤗❤

Thanks for the video, I'll quickly share my story with this camera. I bought this one in Feb 2021 as my first camera based on youtuber recommendations. Soon got a grip extension base plate with grooves for tripod/gimbal and got an eye cup that slides in the hotshoe to have a more usable evf, which also doubles as a rain protector for the hotshoe (one drop and camera doesn't work anymore for a while). After the first 6 months or so I started to shoot raw/manual using the evf, which got me wondering what a more standard body would be like. The size of the body really doesn't matter to me as the lenses are generally bigger than the body anyway. It was a nice cheap way to get into fullframe and that's what I'm really happy about. It gave me a few years to learn the basics of photo/video and in the meantime grow my fullframe lens collection which I can use on any new body I decide to get (rather than go for an apsc body and be stuck with them. I did however opt for a full Tamron collection as the price/value seemed sufficient for this body. So far have 17/28, 28/75, 70-300, and 150-500. Video started somewhere in 2022 when I bought a dji rsc2, a deity pro mic, and a dji wireless mic set. For flash I slowly collected 2 godox v1's and a godox xpro-s which is sufficient for now, but an ad200 could be on the horizon. Oh and the tripod I ended up buying was a three legged thing called brian which is tall enough to reach above my head and light enough to take on any hike. The story I heard many youtubers tell is how most photographers buy 3 tripods in order to find the right one. So far, I have no regrets on this one. We'll see when I finally buy the 90mm macro and start to play with that one with focus stacking. In 2021/2022 I took the camera out most nights going out to clubs and beach bars, did real estate photo/video shoots, tons of beach portraits/sunsets, events/clubnights/barnights and tons of hikes here in the Caribbean and Canada. A lot of which can be found on my insta gregoriousphoto. What you'll see is that not only did my shooting (composition/settings/use of gear) improve, but also the editing, which is a big part of (raw) photography, since November 2021 I got lightroom on my phone and since mid 2022 on my computer. Taking it step by step as photo/video is really not my full-time ambition. The next body is likely going to be the a7rv, unless the a9iii or a1ii drop before Christmas and are a ton better for my needs. What I don't like about the 24mp is that I can't really crop much. Having been in situations where I didn't have a longer focal length at hand really made me long for some more megapixels. The screen and evf are clearly budget/dated and I would love to get a better sense of what I shot before getting on my computer. On the other hand, it's amazing to learn the editing side better and re-edit pictures taken a long time ago and be amazed by the results from time to time. Clearly I'm still learning and I still keep a healthy dose of my youtube viewing time dedicated to photo taking and photo editing tips and tricks. It's great how sometimes a tutorial can be more useful a year after you've first seen it, as the experience gained brings understanding. In summary, for me the a7c has been a great way to get started on the one hand, on the other hand it has made me long for a standard sized body from the moment I had it in my hands. It does shoot fine pictures and videos. The autofocus is okay. The manual focus ability is mostly limited by the Tamron focus rings that are just very poor. The a7c did bring me more job offers than I cared for. It did mature me to the point that an a1/a9/a7r would not be out of the question budget wise. And it did allow me to grow a lens collection and video gear that I think I will be able to use for the coming years/bodies.

Hi Malcom, thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I was researching if I could start wildlife photography using my A7C. I am planning to to attach a sigma 60-600. Pixel count was my major concern and your video gave me a bit insight, thanks again. Good luck with your channel!

I dont get how people emphasize how much of a pro the size of the camera is. Its amusing to me because youre using a 0.5 kg camera, opposed to a sony a7iv which is 0.65 kg. Attached on a lens like the 200-600, the size of the a7iv feels so much nicer, and no you dont notice 150 grams of extra weight.

Thanks for the review. I’m looking at picking up this camera to try. Mainly as a small travel set up. While I’m not a dedicated wildlife shooter I would like to use a 200-600 a few times a year. But, mainly use it with the kit lens and a couple of 1.8 primes in a small bag.

Hey Bob! Glad you liked the video! I think I’d have to suggest the new Sony A7Cii if you want a body this small, the improvements are worth it if you ask me! That all said, I recommend you check out my A7IV review as well because honestly, if I could go back, I’d skip the a7c entirely and go with the Sony A7iV in a heartbeat! Such an amazing camera for all styles!

Good insight into the camera! I also use the a7c attached with the Tampon 28-200 and do some wildlife bird photography. The reach definitely can't match the 200-600 but when the subject is fairly close, I'm always surprised by the photo quality it's able to produce. Definitely thinking if I should get a super telephoto lens if I want to start photographing more birds so nice to hear your side of this!

Hey Malcolm! I totally agree on your conclusion. I am using the A7C for half a year now. Started out with the Tamron 28-75 and doing mostly Videos but then got into landscape and portraits. In January i finally got the 200-600 and its been a blast since then. The camera may not be the best for wildlife due to the cropping problem. But you do get very good shots if you have the patience are able to get close to the animals. For starting out it is a great camera that can do a little bit of everything. And using it for hobby photography it takes you a long way.

Hello. Just found our channel and am thoroughly enjoying your content. Thank you. Currently, I'm using a Sony A6400 with the 70 - 350 lens and am considering an upgrade. You suggested an upgrade to either Sony A7iv or Sony A5R. Personally, I couldn't agree more. I was in Henry's Camera this past week and had the A7iv in my hands and I'm hooked. Regarding the 200 - 600 lens, I'm wondering if the Sigma 60 - 600ii wouldn't be a better choice? Many of the RU-vid videos I've reviewed suggest the newer Sigma lens have a number of features that are either as good as or better than the 200-600. I'm wondering if you have any experience with the Sigma lens or have an opinion?

The new Sony A7Cii might be a good choice for you! I think it’s definitely a huge upgrade from the original A7C. That said, the Sony A7iii is on sale right now for a really solid price for a great full frame camera too! However, you may want to consider APSC Sony bodies and lenses (like the Sony 6700). The lenses are much more affordable and generally smaller, which is great for travel! I don’t personally own any APSC stuff so I can’t speak to it with any first hand experience but it seems like that could be worth exploring for you!

Thanks for the video! I bought the a7c and now i amb a little bit unsure about what super telephoto lens i should buy. In summer I will go to Greece to take some photos of seals while on a boat. So my fear is that maybe 200-600mm is too much at 200mm if they get too close to the boat. I am also considering sigma 60-600mm or even sigma 100-400mm but maybe 400 is too short. If you could give me some advice I would be really happy because it has been on my mind for too long. Thank you so much!! And sorry if I said something wrong in english as it isn’t my native language.

I love my Sony 200-600mm, and use the 600mm a ton, but I have to admit, I understand why some people find it too large and too heavy! I don't mind it (even if I'm sore after a long day, it's all part of it for me) but for some that would be too much discomfort. And add a boat into the equation and things get real tricky! If you can, get your hands on a 200-600mm and see if it seems like something you can see yourself packing and swinging around all day long. If not, probably best to go for the 100-400mm which will be quite a bit easer to shoot handheld. You can always get the Sony teleconverter down the road too if you need the reach! Hope this helps!

Thank for your video. May I ask you something? actually I consider to buy a7c or a6700. because my a7r3 has good resolation, but I always don't like a7r3's low light condition noise. so I think I have 24m full frame camerea, lager pixel area need to help less noise. But I never used a 24m full frame body, so I'm not sure really 24m FF sensor reduce noise. Besides as you know that crop body has a advantage for telephoto angle. now I ask your opinion. when I take a bird photo, which body is more helpful to bird photo a6700 or a7c?
@malcomshootseverything
@malcomshootseverything 8 месяцев назад
Although the noise should be better on the A7C than say my A7IV - I haven’t really found that to be the case, despite the sensor size. The image just looks way better on my A7IV! The A7R3 is a really great camera, and I think you’d really miss all the controls you have available if you moved to an A7C honestly (I personally need that joystick for spot focusing!) The A7C stabilization also isn’t great, in my opinion. Great little camera, but I’d personally stick with your A7R3 in this situation! I honestly don’t have any experience with the Sony A6700, so I’ll refrain from commenting on that!

Wildlife photographing on a 2nd hand Canon 700D with a 55-250 kit lens for 3 years now. Simple old school DSLR not made for Wildlife with 7 AF points and 1 frame per second rate. I also do wildlife as a hobby thing so not willing to spend premium $$ for camera or lens or something. I'll just upgrade to another 2nd hand camera when this one dies. Cheers.

Hey Ryan! I think the new Sony A7Cii (and maybe especially the A7CR) look fantastic to me! Those upgrades will make for a pretty killer little camera! However, as you will find if you keep watching my videos, I upgraded from my Sony A7C to a A7IV - which I absolutely love! The two main differentiators between the new Sony A7Cii and the A7IV for me are: a joystick for aiming spot focus,.... and dual SD card slots, and improved view finder.... and I like the size/fit in my hand more! haha! That said, the new A7cii looks like they pack a punch and I think a lot of people would be perfectly well suited with them - and I could also see a lot of pro users thinking about grabbing one as their second camera body to have in their arsenal! Thanks for watching eh!

@malcomshootseverything Год назад
It certainly helps level the playing field but for photography I definitely find what the computer prioritizes isn’t always what I want (for example I might want to focus on something just beside my subject). Touch screen solves that issue but i like shooting with my viewfinder generally and the joystick is such a slick workflow! I didn’t know I wanted one until I got the A7iv actually!

@@malcomshootseverything Fair point. I am actually in the process of figuring out what camera to get. Coming from a 90d and looking to jump to mirrorless. I shoot everything from wildlife to portrait, concerts ect.. I have always been a viewfinder guy(old school) and I know the A7Cii is not the greatest in terms of evf. One concern I have is the bad rep Sony got on the a7iv eye af. I lt would often miss the eye and focus on the more contrasty eye brow and eye lash. Have you heard of this yourself? Guess we should be grateful we live in a time where we have so many good camera's to choose from! Do you think the A7Cii will surpass the a7iv in terms of performance? I know alot of people are already criticizing it for the obvious one card slot, poor evf ect..but then again it seems those same people complain about every camera. Coming from the first canon rebel days we have come along way! Thanks for the great content. When you are not too busy check out my recently created instagram( yes I just started instagram in 2023)!
