Just got my a6700 yesterday and was going through this same dilemma. Hands down, the a6700 is the best value and upgrade from all of the newly released Sony cameras. Especially if you already own aps-c glass. The video capabilities are incredible.

Its a pitty it doesnt offer 6.2k, Open gate. Or autoframing using Open gate, só it maintains good resolution while zooming. Also, why bot hfr vídeo? 960fps in 1080p?

Thanks for making these awesome videos - I’ve really been enjoying your channel! I’ve searched high and low to know if the A7Cii is better at low-light/high-iso than the a6700…while in crop mode. What do you think? My reason is I have a ton of APS-C lenses. Id happily pay the extra $800 for better low light performance with my existing (APS-C) lenses.

I got the A6700 with the Sony FE F2.8/24 G compact lens right before the BILD expo. It’s my everyday walk around setup with only a NiSi true color polarizing filter and I’m loving it. Just preordered the A7Cii as my first full frame camera body. Being new to Sony, I’m excited to now experience my first full frame camera.

I'm opting for the A7C II - Silver addition myself so I don't have to worry about overheating, extra stab, and that extra background "butter" without using a speed booster and full frame lens... Great video and thanks for the mention! 👊

Excellent video as always! I got the A6700 and for the price and size, I'm still amazed by the performance. A suggestion/request for future content is if you could compare S-LOG with the Cine profile on one of these new Sony cameras

Solid Video as always! Appreciate you slowing down, easier to take in the information. Maybe less coffee before filming this one?? Anyhow, I agree with your findings. I have FF as well and find the set-ups with lenses and gimbals can get too big for casual or travel use. So picked up an A6700 and some nice better APS-C glass and the size difference is HUGE. Much easier or more discreet to shoot and carry. Also finding the IQ very comparable to FF. Yes side by side pixel peeping there's a difference but shooting both and combining images, no one is stopping to say 'that looks worse."

Thanks, it’s a tricky balance I have to work through for some videos that have a lot of content I want to cover. If I slow down too much, then the video ends up too long. Anyways glad you enjoyed it and agree. Sounds like you found the perfect setup while not minimizing the quality 👌🏼

Cool vid thanks! Subbed. Definitely leaning towards the a6700. Price point difference is huge and just getting into photography. Will have to get lenses that are compatible with FF if possible once upgrade later.

Since I started with the ZV-E10 and had 5 lenses already the a6700 is the way to go. All I had to do was buy the body of the a6700 and I was good to go. I think at some point I will go full frame, but for now the a6700 is amazing after using the E10. Not that I hate the E10 but the auto focus is so much better, it make me look better than I am as a camera user. Don't know if I will use 120fps but it is nice to have if I do want to play with it.

That would be awesome! Likewise, I would like to see how the 33mp sensor performs in crop mode- both for video and photo- compared to the a6700. I think it would be a good one as there many who contemplate to transition to full frame but wonder if their Aps-c lenses will be good enough. Thanks Joe!

I think the best test to compare would be the a6700 with a speedbooster and a FF lens compared to the a7CII. This way we can see if the image behaves similarly in resolution, low light and focusing (very important while using a speedbooster). If this works in a similar way, the best option would be then a6700 since you also get 4k 120, save almost 1000 bucks and can also have the reach advantage for macro and sports, as well as better rolling shutter. Hope you do this comparison!

@@thefilmalliance I've been considering the A7cR. Seems like it's the best of all worlds. Same size/weight as a6700. With APS-C lenses you get 26mp and the same size/weight benefits of APSC. And of course it's 62mp in full frame. Currently I have an a7riii and a6400. I was considering the a6700 but now I'm thinking a7cR

Hi! I have a FX30, but I really miss a viewfinder. I m planning to switch to a6700, a7c II, a7 IV or Nikon ZF. I really like Fx30, but they released similar cameras with viewfinder after I bought it. I do mostly video work, but still do photography. I have only FF lenses. I mostly shoot on 25 fps, is there any heating issue? I am in the UK so it doesnt get very hot here, but I often to Turkiye during summers which is a lot warmer. Which camera would be a better switch from Fx30? Thank you!

I'm having a hard time deciding between the AC II and a6700. Is the Active Stabilization with non Sony lenses much worse in both FF and Apsc? I could afford Sony Apsc lenses but not FF ones. This would be a really interesting comparison 🙂🙂🙂

Thanks for the video. I’m try to choose between these and the A7CR for photography only. I currently am not a video shooter. Do wish the A7CII/CR had a full mechanical shutter like the A6700 and all three of these had a higher flash sync speed. Currently have all three but will only be keeping two since I never travel with only one camera in case one were to die on me. Like the nice small Sigma 10-18/2.8 and 18-50/2.8 pair for APS-C but could use them on the A7CR as well.

@@thefilmalliance That was my original thinking with the A7CR & A6700 that can both have 26 Mpixel APS-C but then would have two sets of lenses vs two Full Frame bodies that can share lenses. Hard to decide since I think A7C II might offer best low light performance but need to prove that to myself.

I was kinda set on the a7c II, but now I'm thinking, I might rather by the a6700 with some good glass, maybe a hole F stop wider, but getting that extra reach. That could save me some money. I'm a casual shooter. Maybe I should go to the store and compare them both side by side

I'm very happy with my a6700, partnered with the ZV-E10 and a handful of APS-C lenses. Love the full frame cameras, it's true, but budget & weight win every time for me. The a6700 is capable and a good choice for me as a hobby photographer, so I can understand you using it for b-roll, S-Cinetone does look good from it!

I seriously can't tell the footage of 6700 and A7Cii apart and I replay many of the footage in this vdo sooooo many times lol. I am glad I got the a6700 and save the money for lens. I am a non-professional hybrid shooter. Mainly taking photos and vdo of my family during trips and my corporate/company events for a hobby for a few years only so my opinion may not matter much but I gotta give it to A6700. Not because I own it but the value it gives for the money I paid for.

8:05 is pretty easy to tell which is which, at least on a normal sized display it is very easy, the A7C II is clean which A6700 is anyting but clean and keep inn mind the footage being side by side you don't even actually see it at 100% and the noise is still obvious.

Nice Review, as always! I think the A7II is worth buying, even if you are going to use apsc lenses also - especially, when traveling. I still remember my 24mm GM lens - awesome lens, but I just don't want to be a pack mule. Annoyingly, the A7CR us definitely worse for video, compared to the A7II

is it just me, or does the FF produce more cinematic footage? i feel like just by looking at the side by side examples there is a huge difference in the effect the images of the A7CII invoke compared to the A6700 which seem flatter in comparison

The one question is when using the a7cii in super crop mode you ge the 1.5 zoom but do you also get the 1.5 x the aperture? Does it lower the f stop as well to match if it were a apsc? I.e a f2.0 on apsc is actually f3.0, so if you use super 35 mode on full frame does the aperture also change?

I could be wrong but in terms of exposure, a given aperture/shutter speed/ISO combination should produce the same exposure on any given format - whether it’s APS-C, FF, M43 or whatever. Think back to having a handheld exposure meter. You took a that exposure reading and set your camera with the indicated settings - whether it was a 4x5 view camera, Medium format camera or something else. I believe the conversion that is made by scaling aperture numbers by 50% on APS-c when compared to FF is regarding apparent bokeh. So f/2.8 on an APS-c lens provides similar bokeh / depth of field as a full frame lens of the same focal length set to f/4.2 (1.5 * 2.8). Thought of in reverse, if you have a favorite 35mm f/1.8 FF lens used on a FF camera, you would need a 23mm f/1.2 lens on an APS-c camera to get the same field of view and the same bokeh effect. (Both numbers divided by 1.5).

I'm stuck between ZV-E1, A6700 and A7Cii. I can get the ZV-E1 for only 300 more than the A6700, but lenses more expensive.

It come down to one thing. The E1 is much better at video than the others and in low light. However it is a not so great as a photo camera, if I was a vlogger it would be the way to go. However if you want to also shoot photos I would choose one of the others with a Mechanical shutter you will be happier.

Think of that sony ZV e1 would serve you for years without becoming obsolete. Only when cameras massively switch to 8k then only e1 will become outdated. Of course if only you are 90% video shooter. If photos are as important as video then take a6700. And I do not recommend a7cii for video shooters

My ideal set-up (if I could afford it) would be the zv-e1 with 24-70 gmii general use, and a 24mm 1.4 gm for low light. I choose this over the ac7ii, because it's technically better for video than the a7cii. I mostly make videos, and if I wanted to take pictures I'd just use my a6600 for photos. (The fx3/fx30 is too much camera for what I really need. I just make RU-vid videos as a hobby.) BUT since I can't afford any of that, and am already invested in apcs lenses, I plan to get the a6700. And I want to get the sigma 23mm as well. I really want that full frame though for the better low light performance. Maybe one day....

@@TravAlligator I decided to go for the a7cii. Only because I had an a6600. If you're just starting out, go with a6700. You don't need full frame. Learn to use the camera first by going with the cheaper camera. And then when you feel like you've mastered video making and or photography, then you graduate to full frame.

I really like the A7C II but that 4k 120fps slow motion on the a6700 sounds sooo appealing. Thats the only reason im doubting which one to get. Because slowmotion is soo cool. 60fps is oke but 12p fps slowmo is just next level. Is it worth it ??

If I can ask you about one thing since you are professional.. Because I bought A6400 at the beggining of the year. By that time I spent a lot of money to get more knowledge in photography, and I saw my limitations with the camera. In general, in the next year I would like to monetize my work in Catering / Wildlife / Portrait photography. Which model would you choose to that type of work if you were at the beggining but would expect a spike in monetizing in any of that photography?

I would say the 6700 because the APSC lineup and lenses will be less overhead than the 7CII overall. Great quality and best bang for your buck. Hope that helps.

I currently have the a7c with the Sony 24-70 F4. I really want something smaller for travel. Should I sell the a7c and get the a6700 with the Sigma 18-55 f2.8? I'm wondering if the a6700 and sigma lens will be a very big downgrade in IQ from the a7c and 24-70.

I am thinking that I will get the greater "value" from upgrading my a6500 to the a6700 than upgrading my a7c to the a7cii , at the moment. I have good glass for both full frame and aps-c. If the cameras weren't so close in their specs it wouldn't be such a hard decision to make.

@@arthurrodrigues8913 I did buy the a6700 and it is a fantastic upgrade from the A6500 in every way. It feels much better in the hand and I do appreciate finally having the bigger battery. The image quality is very, very good and the improved subject focus mode is just a pleasure to use. It was definitely worth the upgrade and paired with the Sigma 18-59 f2.8 is a perfect travel camera. I am very happy with my decision to purchase it. I think I am going to wait for an A7Ciii and skip the A7Cii.

I was studying right now between these cameras: a7cii, zv-e1 and a6700. it’s really complicated hahahaah. both are great but, so specific for these public’s. i want a fullframe sensor, because the low light performance and depth of field catchs me, as a director and photographer. but, at the same time, both fullframe cameras have the “limitations”: 12mp on zve1… only 4K60 with 1.5X crop on a7cii… and, the A6700 has all of that correctly, but in a APS-C sensor 🤯🤯

I feel that using rhe A6700 as a b camera is an awesome strategy. I use my gen 1 A6000 as a b camera mounted to my 200-600 and it takes amazing pictures. This allows me to use the 12-24 or 35-150 on my a7r4 for super wide to mild telephoto. The dilemma i have now is whether rhe A6700 is the right time to jump and replace the A6000...great video by rhe way. I loved the bird images and video you took with the A6700. Nice work!!

Why did Sony remove self-portrait mode from a6700? It was super useful on my old A6400... (continuous autofocus is not working on a6700 when self timer is beeing used)

I was ready to get a6700 but at shop I saw, that this option is unavailable. For me and my wife it is super important. I hope that they add it in future update.

I just bought 2 FX30 with Sigma and Artisan lenses and before had the really small Canon M50 with the 18-150 and a Nikon D7100 with the 18-200. I really loved the Nikon for the ease of use, and its viewfinder, just the best for photo-shoots for me, but the autofocus and film no way, filming in combination with the M50 no way. As I wanted film more I thought I stay with APS-C and the combination of the FX30 with a 6700 to be used with the SEL 16-55 and SEL70-350 would be the best solution. So I took the 6700 and both Sony Lenses with me to a town near - just to do some shots in town. I missed my very light Canon M50 with the reach of the 18-150, which still was not enough for architecture but a good compromise. I missed the 7100 for its viewfinder as the viewfinder of the Sony is unusable. And with lots of light from behind the screen was unusable too. So I had to go to the shadow to see if my shots were ok. Also the both lenses were just too heavy .. as the reach of the 16-55 is just not enough .. a 16-88 would .. So now am fully confused. As I want to use the 2 FX30 and the 6700 in studio to film interviews, I thought all has the same look which is true, but the 6700 has a mini HDMI which is another compromise .. So what to do? The 7C II ? Still at high price limits. Same viewfinder like 6700, Mainly same cams. So there was an alpha 7 IV at offer, cheaper than the 7C II. A bit lighter than the Nikon 7100, enough pixels to crop photos for print .. Better viewfinder. normal HDMI .. BUT, which cam to use if again I go to town ? The FX30s are bulk packages, but I mean they are really nice, the I IV is heavy.. It's not easy. Maybe buy another small Sony Cam, or upgrade my phone to an iPhone.

@@withoutpassid Bought The Sony Alpha 7 IV - and am really happy now. The minor things are: It heats in 4K and the weight. But the Viewfinder is really usable. Will upgrade my phone or use the GoPro in case for private travels when the weight seems too high. So am less confused now ;-) Will check the A7C II sometime later, when prices went down ..

Have a huge dilemma, currently have a7iii with only full frame glass. I kinda want to go for a6700 but with aps-c glass i have to sell most of my equipment.

Actually you wouldn't have to. You can just as well use your full frame lenses on the a6700. The only thing that'll change is a 1.5x narrower field of view. Apart from that, there aren't any drawbacks. Essentially it is even an advantage, cuz you'll be shooting through the best part of those lenses resulting in less outer image distortion.

if you need wider field of view then full frame is better.. for example indoor shots and videos.. also for low light videos.

The a6700 lacks r 6.2k, Open gate.r autoframing using Open gate, só it maintains good resolution while zooming. And hfr vídeo 960fps in 1080p. Then it would be the perfect camera

You forgot to mention the third option. The better option than a6700. The original a7c. Same price with a6700 and it's full frame. Every camera reviewers seems to conveniently forgot about it.
