Thanks for the video Mark! You definitely confirmed why I DON'T have buyer's remorse for purchasing my a6700. Also, It was great meeting you and sitting next to you on the bus ride to the airport after the trip! Great conversation!
I went with the a6700. To me it’s the perfect overall camera. I wanted something very compact including the lenses. I already own the a7r3 and a7s3. I wanted a camera for going out and about, having fun and not worrying about a very expensive setup in certain situations. When I want to take my time and put a lot of effort into my work I’ll take the full frame setups. For everyday use it’s the a6700.
Appreciate the comparison! I have been going back and forth on these two. I have lenses for both systems, and have been brainwashed to go FF for the most part. But on a recent trip took my FF setup with multiple lenses, and a small APS-C camera as a backup and after a few days went almost exclusively shooting with the APS-C camera because of size and weight. So here, I'm going with the A6700. These two cameras are soo close in soo many ways and the A6700 is the much better value.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis agreed. I have a Ricoh GRIII that has great IQ but the focus can be spotty. So I find myself thinking the A6700 with some smaller quality APS-C lenses would be a nice compromise between something tiny like the Ricoh GRIII or Fuji X100V and FF set-up.
I just got the a6700 and I love it! The 4k 60 and 4k 120frames for shooting skateboarding and sports it's amazing! I already had a lot of APS-C lenses so this was a easy pick for me.
The A6700 fits my needs perfectly. I have a complement of APS-C and Full Frame lenses, but when I do decide to get a full-frame camera, the A7C II is the one I will add to my bag. But for the time being, the A6700 does everything I need. Even for the odd professional work. Great video!
This is exactly the review we were looking for! Big thanks! I'm with the A6700 with the difference invested in the G lens :) due to the fact that it will be my first camera in more than 10 years.
I love your format of videos!! So great you title every comparison and side by side everything not just flashing then disappearing points on the screen. Thank you so much
I left full frame photography after my kids got older and didn't cooperate with having their pictures taken any longer. I got rid of the Nikon D700 w/ 50/1.4, and started using the original Sony RX100 and, later, the iPhone 5. Now, in retirement, and traveling more, I've regained interest in photography and opted for the 6700 w/ 16-55 G and 70-350 G and a nice backpack to carry it all with. The iPhone 15 pro max will be my video camera.
Thanks for the comparison between the a6700 and the A7Cii. Great video. I have an a6500 that is still working and as an amateur family photographer, it has been a great camera for the last 6+ years. I nearly bought the first A7C around Christmas, but decided the changeover would be too much expense to justify for the photography I do. Since I’m already invested in the APSC lenses, if I need to upgrade my a6500 I would select the a6700 and perhaps invest in another lens or two and still be at or under the cost of the a7Cii. Thanks again.
For stills, you won’t see a huge improvement in image quality (a bump in autofocus, but the a6500 is good in that area too). So lenses is for sure the best way to largely up
i'm in the exactly same situation. i've the A6500 and searching the better replacement. thinking about A7IV, A7C II and A6700. but, the value of the lenses of the apsc's cameras, adding the fact of these three cameras was so close in so many ways, makes me thinking choose the A6700.
Thanks Mark, I was waiting for this comparison! I'm currently on an a6000 with a few lenses and thinking of making an upgrade. I mostly use my camera for travel photography. I love the colors on the A7c ii, they seem a bit more natural. Also low light is awesome. So I'm thinking of making the transition to full-frame. However, the a6700 is great as well, more affordable and keeping it light and compact. This makes the transition to full-frame more like wishful thinking. I guess I can rent both camera's and see which suits best.
in the same exact boat! video features aside though the a6000 is still so competent and similar enough to the a6700 that i yearn for FF. Extra res plus FF lenses and better lens adaptation are huge for me personally though so a7cii will likely take the cake
@@MrSwaggernaut83 I bit the bullet and got the a6700 this weekend. I haven't tried it out yet. My reasoning was, I still own quite some high quality aps-c glass. I don't see myself paying the extra price and carry the extra weight of full frame during holidays. After 5 years I expect for my needs and level of expertise an a6700 gives still a nice follow-up in learning more about photography. I can always start by putting a full frame lens on my a6700 if I'm not satisfied with the results. I don't print anything, so I don't expect to see a big difference between aps-c and fullframe.
@@MrSwaggernaut83 A little update: after a few sessions with the a6700 I wasn't completely convinced it was a large enough upgrade. So I decided to get the A7cii with a sigma 28-70. After one night walk through Amsterdam I was impressed by its low light capabilities. The size is pretty much the same as the 6700 and there are enough compact and affordable lenses for full frame as well. Did you end up getting the a7cii as well?
Been waiting for this comparison. Either camera is a big jump up from any of the Sony apsc line. I'm leaning a6700 as an upgrade from my a6400. Don't see the extra 1k+ CAD being worth it for the a7c ii fir my purposes. P.S.: Congrats on becoming one of the cool kids.
I honestly will go with the a6700 as my first real camera, and to start doing professional work with it. Honestly it doesn't matter as much if you get full frame or not, or the most expensive camera or not, if you know what to do, you will get great results regardless
True its better than maybe 95% of cameras released between 1960 to 2000 and guess what, we had professional photographers back then too, so it's more then capable.
Thank you very much for this one. I’ve been looking at each of them for a bit, and I’ve already got an A7C and an A6600. But, WOW! I’ve decided that when I can, it’s the A7Cii for sure.
After watching some of your videos, got a brand new ZVe-10 recently for 570 euros here in the Netherlands to start my RU-vid channel. It was on sale so i got quite a good deal I'd say. Compared to my previous Nikon Z5 , this Sony is surprisingly small, lightweight and quite cute. Love it! Thanks for the content!
for sure, same audience will see all reviewer. for me, you are still the best for comparison product. text lists comparison on your video help a lot and other reviewer not do this.. keep up the good work and thank you..
Just sold my fuji XT3 after 3 years, and ordered the sony a7c2 and 24 70 gm 2 Really excited after watching your video, I love the way how you simplify the things so easy. I think this will be my one stop channel to learn the new sony system Good one mate, and thankyou🙏🏼❤️
Mark, since you’re my go-to Sony guru, I got a question. Do you pretty much have to shoot in 4K on Sony for good quality rather than HD 1080? I ask because I’m a LUMIX S5ii user. I like it because I can still use HD 1080p for smaller file size and it still looks nice, high quality and crispy. I think with Sony the HD is not really good because they expect everyone to use 4K. Is this the case? I’m looking at getting an A6700 for travel and a second cam. Plus, I like the Sony colors better than LUMIX. Thanks!
This is the video I’ve been searching all week last week haha. Thinking about upgrading my A6400 and have been eyeing the a6700 but was kinda in the middle in going full frame. I guess I’ll stay APSC for a while haha. Thanks Mark. Hope to see you hitting 100k subs soon! Cheers. (I’m the guy from the gym💪🏽😎)
Great review, one of the best. I was skeptical but this little aps-c is so powerful for us non-professionals. Keep it up. Very detailed and informative. And fun.
I own an A7M3 for the past 6-7 years. it is starting to age, the electronic is sometimes lagging when I turn on off, switch from presets. I waited for something smaller, APSC or FF, I wasn't sure about it. When the A6700 came out, I thought this is it. I also have some glass for for FF already, therefore I wanted to wait for the A7Cii. After watching this video at least two dozen times and considering the pros and cons for each of the two, the prices are fluctuating quite a bit here in Europe. but once the price dropped by 500 I bought the A7CII. This camera is amazing so far. Any of the disadvantages, did not apply to me. I don't know anything better than this, so all good. The raw files are not identified by my OS and editing SW, so I used that VPN trick to go to Turkey spot and bought the subscription from there. Amazing cheap. I had a lot of fun over Christmas and New Year taking photos. it is so small and light, I took it almost anywhere, even if it just fill up the car. Taking fotos with this device is just pure fun.
Thank you for the video. You promised and delivered. A difference you left out that bothers many on the forums is that the A7CII lacks a full two curtain mechanical shutter of the A6700 that allows the Electronic First Curtain Shutter to be disable to in some cases give you better Bokah with wide apertures and fast shutter speeds. Also the slower 1/160 for flash synchronization is another again impacting the usage with strobes. I haven’t decided if that will impact me but I do already have the A6700. Currently own the A7RV an A7IV so ultimately I can work around those but portability then goes away. Also still struggling to decide between A7C II or A7CR but really didn’t want to spend the extra money on the CR. Will see. Thank you again.
the flash sync speed could cause issues depending on how you shoot. But the e-front curtain shutter would only cause a problem if the sensor readout was slow, so on these cameras, it’s not an issue. I was speaking to a Sony engineer and he said if you have a newer Sony camera, even if you could turn off e-front curtain shutter, you shouldn’t, because you won’t see any negative effects and it will help you get your shot faster.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I've unfortunatelly sold my A7IV recently so I can no longer test it, but it was an issue that happened on A7IV ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-veXC56OCVzU.htmlfeature=shared&t=229 ( if timestamp doesnt work then its 3:49). Seeing as this is pretty much A7 IV, I doubt it would be differnet.
I actually thought the a6700 looked better. I've had the a6700 for about a month now and i just love this little camera. Its a great all around "do it all" camera. Cant wait to build up good glass!
I'm an aps-c guy in my heart, but on a random note, while I knew you were a Canadian, I always thought you were out west. Never realized you were in Toronto. Like I said, very random... ❤ thanks for the vid
6700 def has the value for money but the ZVE10 is still great (only had mine a few months). Waiting for the Fuji X100V successor (I've joined the hype). Until then I think I'll have to get the A7C||. Great vids dude!
Mark great video as usual! You always give me some things to think about. From my old full-frame days (about 6 months ago!) I still have the excellent Sony 24mm F1.4 GM, which I am keeping. I am thinking about the A6700 and an FX30, or two A6700 cameras. I like the idea of moving to lighter weight and cheaper lenses. I currently would consider myself a hybrid shooter, a bit more photo, but am thinking about getting more into video (spending some more time this fall and winter learning how to use my gear in that direction). I have the Sony A7Cii on order (my older full frame was the A7C), on the wait list for the Sony A6700 and could get the Sony FX30 right now. I was thinking about one of each, then the Sony 11mm F1.8 (or the 15mm F1.4), the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8, and maybe the Sigma 56mm f1.4 which would give me some good flexibility for both photo and video. Thoughts?
Sony 11 would be best for handheld footage of yourself because it is wide. But if you don’t need that, the 15 is overall the best video lens to get for apsc (talking heads, interviews, documentary). The sigma 18-50 would be an excellent all purpose photo lens (or the Tamron 17-70 2.8). The sigma 56 or the viltrox 75 are amazing for portrait photos.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Mark, thanks for that. With the A7C and my larger lenses, it just became a bit of a hassle for travel. I think the APS-C stuff for photo and video, especially these packages you can put together like the Sigma trio, the mid-range Sigma zoom, some of the new Sony lenses, and the Viltox stuff there are a lot of good choices.
I'd buy 6700 if it was 33 mps. Don't see a reason switching from 6400 as the stills aren't much better. A7cii however is completely different league with fullframe and ai autofocus. Setting my eyes on a7cii
I think it's gonna be the A6700 for me. I like the idea of 4K120 10-Bit 4:2:2 for motorsports. I also like the better touch screen, and I think the IBIS looks better on the 6700.
Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. I think the easiest solution to this dilemma is that I'm just going to have to buy ALL the cameras...🤷♂
Mark I need your advice. I used Black Magic Camera before. But the Sony is wonderful and I want to switch to Sony. But I do not know which one. I have to decide between the A6700 and the AC7II. I usually do live shows that can last 1 hour 30 minutes. I also record short programs. Could you give me your best recommendation? 🙏🏻🤗
because I was using 1.4 for the demonstration. that’s too shallow of a depth of field really and will give you that greenscreen look. normally do set it at f2 or so.
The 6700 is a compelling camera if your in the Sony ecosystem. Not so much if your in another ecosystem. But, if your looking to go from APSC in another ecosystem to Full frame the 7CII is a very compelling offer from Sony.
The Active SteadyShot, to me, looks better on the A6700. With Catalyst Browse, I didn't see much of a difference on the A6700, but the A7Cii now looks real smooth. Thanks for the video.
It did come out smother I thought on the a6700, but it might just be a balance thing as I was holding it. The cameras and lenses have different weights and balance points and sometimes that makes a difference when you’re handholding
1. This is what I've been deciding between! A7C II (crop mode w/ APSC lenses) or the a6700. I may buy one FF lens, but want to stay compact and I have a lot of APSC lenses already 2. How much Sony swag did you pick up?
not much because I’m dumb. there was a nd filter and a Sony tough card and a duffel bag. I forgot to ask for anything so I came home with a shirt and a hdmi cable from Gerald 🤣🤣
Thanks for the really helpful presentation, it really answered most of my questions! (no, I'm not affiliated with the channel!) Here are a couple of more questions I have though: When using both cameras above ISO 5.000 and going up to 10.000 (roughly) is the 6700 still much worse? And the second question: Does S-Cinetone on both cameras give the same result on correcting highlights in post, compared to using an HLG profile? I don't use S-Log, I prefer HLG2 in the day and Cine-4 at night, with details down to -100 for night shooting. I own both the 6300 and 6400 and I am also trying to decide. Yes, I do mind giving the extra dollars but I would if I decide to. I mostly use the cameras primarily for stock videos and photos and then YT travel videos, not often for commissioned works. I hate the bad rolling shutter my cameras have and want to upgrade, plus it seems these cameras will give a much better handheld still video if I am not panning, so I will not have to use my gimbals! When travelling with equipment, including a gimbal, I might walk up to 24 km a day so if I go for a full frame I will have to buy a new heavier lens and use my big Ronin gimbal, instead of using my lighter Zhyiun Crane. I use stabilised lenses, the 18-135 Sony zoom and the 35mm Sony f 1.8 prime. I wanted to buy the 16mm Sigma 1.4 but it has no stabilisation so, here's my 3rd question: If I am to use the Sigma at night, with the f1.4 (a bit closed to a slower f) could I get away with using no more than ISO 1250 so would this beat the point of using the A7CII? All these thoughts are running like thin air in my mind and I can't decide!
If you notice the brick lines in the camera comparison shot, the a7cii is much more blurred out and creamy, and the 6700 is a less creamy with less background separation. The real question is do you want to go the apsc eco system route, or full frame. For me, coming from the original a7c with 3 full frame lenses (20 mm 1.8 G, 16-35 GM i, and the 24-70 gm ii, I can confidently say that i've already preordered the a7cii. Can't wait for it to arrive, and perhaps I shall upload a direct comparison.
just finished watching the entire video, and I'm looking forward to the zv-e1 comparison. Although I predict, it will come down to the extra frame rates you get from the zv-e1. For people who don't use a lot of slo-mo, and want a camera that can do both photo and video exceptionally well, a7cii is the way to go. But for people who are purely video centric, and do a lot of slo-mo b roll, and taking no photos, the zv-e1 may be the way.@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
I use a Nikon D850 for my landscape photography and the Sony A6500 for traveling around. Since I have a full complement of expensive Nikon lenses, I don’t want to start over with Sony FF lenses. The IQ of the A6700 works for me.
I'm glad I made the right choice with the a6700. I think overall given the price and features it was the right camera for me. Had I known the other cameras were on the way I may have opted for one of those....but I'm happy with my purchase.
I'm in a quandary about which one to buy first (?). I really want to pick up the a7Cii as it is the camera we have all be wanting since the a7C was released but that a6700 would be a solid and meaningful upgrade for my a6500 and makes sense for travelling as light as possible with aps-c glass. I would get everything that I could want in a crop sensor body with the a6700. I could see an a7Ciii being released in two or three years....
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis Certainly we waited a long time for the a6700 after the release of the a6600 ( which I skipped) . The a7C was released in September of 2020 but I waited almost a year before i bought mine . I waited until the a7iv was released to compare but it was the smaller form factor that finally won me over. Now I can get all of that 7iv goodness in the a7Cii ! Decisions, decisions.....
Thanks for the excellent review as always. I own the a7iv and recently purchased the a6700 for vlogging and for use as a podcast camera. I haven’t tried using it yet for recording past an hour but have concerns with it potentially overheating, while interviewing guest in my studio. Since I already have an a7iv would it make sense to exchange the a6700 for an fx30? I want a secondary camera to accompany my a7iv to have another angle. I must say I really like the a6700’s versatility and new features but I am torn on whether it will also serve my podcast needs. Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
for long podcasts, the fx30 would be better. But you as long as you don't plug in the a6700 to an HDMI monitor, you'll probably get some pretty long run times. I would test it out a few times in your studio - run it for as longs as it will go.
Purely based on weight of lenses. I love the a6700 + Sigma 18-50mm combo. Incredibly lightweight and compact to travel with. The size & weight of the FE 24-70mm really put me of a compact bundle @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis
A6700 + Sigma 18-50 It the combo for 95 % people (travel, Street, Family, Special Moments, daily shot, RU-vid, contest creation) it lightweight setup for all
Thank you Mark for the great video. If I mainly do video (mostly 4k60), little bit of photo and owned some full frame /APSC lenses, which camera should I go for and can last for few years? Thanks in advance.
the a6700 is an amazing value, and gives 4K 120 too. You can, however, use the a7cii in apsc crop mode if you want to use your apsc lenses. you’ll get about 12megapixels in photo and full 4K in video
I'm literally selling my A7 IV for A7C ii, but damn bro, the a6700 actually performs better (image, sharpness, IBIS) in your comparison. Never considered aps-c before. The handsome jokes are hilarious here too.
the smaller the sensor size, generally you’ll see a little “over-sharpening” to make up for it. it’s not bad at all with the apsc, but you start to notice it a lot more with micro 4/3 and especially phone cameras
I currently have a Sony DSLR that I mostly used for the kid's hockey. Was thinking of switching to mirrorless. The speed and lighting constraints of hockey is a hard situation for photography. Do you think the A6700 could work well in that situation? Would I lose autofocus functionality by using my current Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens on it. I heard it takes Sony DSLR lenses like that with an adapter. Would a setup like that affect the autofocus (would I need to go manual because of that)? Or would I be forced to also get a new lens for hockey?
Thank you. Just a few months ago there were rumors that Sony had shut down the production line for this camera. Do you remember ? 😬 Just to clarify, when you crop (1.5 crop), the Megapixels on the file... are obviously less ??
I’m looking for a travel camera. Most of the time it will be landscapes, cityscapes, street and night photography. Stuck on what ca,era to buy. FF, crop, Sony or Fiji?
Full frame if you can - night photography generally works better with full frame - especially a Sony. but you need a fast lens, like a 1.8 or 1.4. if its photos, you don’t need the newest ones - an A7C original will be much cheaper and give great lowlight photos
My a7cii arrived with a smear/ scratch in the middle of the shutter curtain, is it normal for it to come from the factory like that or is it a sign that it's been used.
I'm stuck on choosing my first full frame sony camera. I have multiple aps-c cameras in my streaming studio, but i want to step up to full frame camera for out of studio use. Totally hybrid shooter - family and event photos, as well event videography - sports events where at least 4k60fps is a must, and corporate events where low light is present. Maybe i need to stay in aps-c? A6700 check most of the boxes. But i whant that full frame look for portraits. A7iv and a7cii are on the radar, but 4k60fps crop is a "meh", and what about that a7cii shutter? Please help, i'm loosing sleep over this 😅
NGL, you attending that Sony event made even me happy down in my cold jaded heart :) Anyway for me it's gonna be a6700. That thing pretty much ticks all my boxes, so I'm just waiting on persuading my cold jaded wallet sometime next year.
I’m in a pickle. I originally wanted to pick up the 6700… but then I rented the A7CR. Now I’m just torn. I do a lot of street photography, but I also shoot professional wrestling. I’ve been rocking out with the trusty ZV-e10 this whole time, and I’ve been doing fine… but I definitely want to upgrade. Do I stick with the cheaper camera or get the A7CR.
If it’s in the budget, you won’t regret the A7CR. You can do APSC mode for extra reach in video or to use APSC lenses and you have all those megapixels in full frame mode with
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis When I rented the CR, I loved it. That APS-C “punch” was great. I’m renting the 6700 this weekend to see how I like that. If I can save enough Pennies, I’ll 100% go with the CR. But the 6700 is looking more than likely. I can always trade up.
Hi Mark, how could I eliminate those little shakes (left-right up-down) that 7CII sometimes gives on the movie when the steady shot is active? Thanks for answer
I've been watching a lot of reviews this week. Yours are the best...by far! So organized and in-depth. Least annoying personality as well :) The anti-McKinnon. 😅😅😅
@@simoz78no its not wrong. Upscaling from 7k to 4k only up till 30p. On 4k60 with 1.5x crop it would be more like 12.7 megapixels which is about 4k, thus no oversampling
Hi Mark... Thanks for the comparison. When using the 7Cii in APC mode. How many megapixels will i loose? I currently have the ZVE10 and APC Lens. But wondering if its worth going Full Frame and invest in FF Lens in the future. Thanks
