10:13 cant understand how you able call this skintones great in video modes? auto WB in Photo modes really good but not in video and we see here the difference. Again Sony can`t rid off magentaish hints in video, they lost their great skintones in video that was in A7R2. You can see the difference if you find A7R2 in Autralia and create comparison.
thank you so much for giving the A7CR and AC7 II their own separate reviews! it seems like everyone else on RU-vid reviewed both cameras in the same video and i honestly struggled to keep the specs of each camera straight in my mind. "the A7C II does X but not Y but the R does Y but not the X" yadda yadda--i just totally started mentally checking out on everyone else's reviews of these cameras lol. you did the most simple yet most wise thing on all of youtube by giving each camera its own video, so props to you!
I'm glad you enjoyed my videos! I was considering wether to do 1 or 2 videos, ultimately I wanted to make 2 so I didn't gloss over anything important for each camera.
As always Julia, this was exactly the review i wanted to see and you did it with actual use - not a stupid unboxing video. I love hearing about weight considerations and everything else. Amazing.
Awesome review! Thanks so much, very informative and I really like your editing! Was debating on ZvE1 or this but I think I’m definitely leaning towards this
Great comprehensive review. Thank you. This sounds like just what I might be looking for as a travel camera Where I might want to do an impromptu shoot as well 😎🙏
Thanks for a great review! I was nervous about the mechanical first curtain shutter and it's effect on the bokeh, but your examples have put that worry to bed.
For this camera and also the A7CII you really have to youse V90 card with up to 300mbs write speed. Even when the buffer fills up it clears so fast, that you always can keep on shooting. It's a bit odd, but it works quite well. Normal Sandisk Exreme Pro cards with real write speeds of just around 90mbs aren't enough to have fun with this camera.
Great resolution … but I just HATE the super loud mechanical shutter sound. I wish SONY would put some effort into noise reduction. Just too loud to use in environments such as church weddings.
Thanks Julia - I love your insights! The A7CR sounds so great. And I remember that I sold my first gen A7c because it was pretty -eh-. I'm still looking for a video-centric compact camera that is better than my RX100M7 or a GoPro with ND filters.
Thanks for this review, it was very helpful. If I may ask, as regards the buffer, how does the buffer clearing compare to the A7RV, and were you using a SD card with the maximum write speed? Thanks again!
Hi Julia, I have the Sony Zv-E1. I cant decide between the A7cii and the A7cr as my 2nd camera. I mainly shoot video but I want my 2nd camera to be able to shoot stills and still be great for video. Which one shall I go for? Thanks. ( A7cr has 4k pixel binned that is swaying me away from it)
Hi Julia, I love your videos! How do you record your camera screen? i’ve seen it in your videos for a while and i love the thought of using that in my photoshoots!
I found this review very helpful. Regarding the shutter - do you know what is the estimated number of actuations for the life of this shutter. It' a different shutter from that in the a7IV and a7III.
This is a great video! It seems like a toss-up if you are a vlogger whether you should get one of the new C cameras or the ZV-E1, with the benefit of the latter being low light performance. If you were using the cameras for vlogging (90% of the time) do you have advice if you would pick this over the ZV-E1?
Have you tried putting camera into a fridge (or ice cooler) after overheating? I wonder how much time it would take to cool it down before it's able to continue recording.
@juliatrotti Thank you for your review! I have a question about the buffer offloading speed. Did you also test it with "Lossless Compressed" or just with "Compressed"? Would be really interesting how many images you can take until the buffer is full and how long it takes to offload the buffer with "Lossless Compressed"
Great review! I’m looking for my first proper camera for better photo quality whilst traveling etc. would a non photographer be able to use this out of the box? Or is it too complicated and bulky to use for traveling? Thanks!
Thank you! I'm currently using this camera while travelling and I have to say, the size is so convenient. It's probably as easy as a mirrorless camera can get to use, you'll just need to learn initially the basic layout of buttons, find the settings you like, etc :)
First off, the model is incredible, some nice shots too! Second, Im not that impressed. Im waiting for someone to make a camera like the Leica Q3 but at a reasonable price. FF sensor with an excellent fixed lens. The X100V is close but obviously has a cropped sensor. Hopefully we see one sooner than later.
Sony plays with customers. They intentionally removed joystic, 8000 shutter speed, some custom buttons making people thirsty after those. So those will be included on 'a7cr ii' and people will buy them again. You just have to wait.

Their sales data must show that it must be worth making these cameras. Also in terms of marketing. Hardware releases probably get more traction than software updates. For me the ergonomics and EVF are too compromised to be used beyond casual capturing. You're an amazing photographer and use these cameras well. Separating the artist from the tools.
Yeah I have to agree with you that hardware releases are probably better for making noise than software. I'm sitting here with my A7sIII still waiting for a firmware update that will probably never come 🥲 and thank you, I appreciate it!
This camera would be great for my street photography. But I won`t pay 3699€ for a camera which has a viewfinder that has basically the same specs as the first evf ever made for any e-mount camera. 2,3 mio dots, 0.7x magnification - I liked that in the NEX-6, but when the A7R2 came out in 2015, it looked a bit outdated.
For some, whatever evf works. Something you rarely use, but it matters a lot when you need it. And many people don't care how many dots there are in the evf. That's why sony saves from evf, because the real pro's buy the bigger full frame versions instead. Casual is happy, pro is happy, everyone is happy.
OMG HYPE! Haven't watched the video yet and won't get the A7Cii anyways, due to price, but I love the idea of the compact FF so I'm very excited about these releases! Edit: now watched it. do you know if it has a full mechnical shutter or if it still EFCS? Wondering due to flash photogaphy
Hey Julia thanks for 2 great videos on the a7cr and the a7cii! Am trying to decide between the two. Is it just me or do the skin tones on the a7cr seem a bit more natural for SOOC images? Also low light performance for the a7cr seems very good/on par considering the higher MP, any thoughts?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed my videos! The colours on the A7CII video might look a bit funny because we had strange lighting and lots of colours casts from our location. On this day with the R we had basically perfect sunlight and I was shooting in very neutral locations, so it looks better. When using the cameras in the same place, the photos look the same in terms of tone and colour. I have a comparison video I filmed that I will be editing soon where you will be able to see this! And yep, high iso looks pretty good on this camera.
Hi Julia- this isn't the right video to ask this questions- but some months ago you posted about an insurance company you insured your gear with. I am looking to change. What was the name of the company again? I want to look into it!
Hey, it was PPA, I have a link here with $25 off in case you want to go through with it: www.ppa.com/join/julia-trotti/aug23 :) the insurance only covers you if you are in the US though by the way!
если лицо немного повернуто, то при 1.4 один глаз в фокусе, а второй уже нет. зачем так ? можно же поставить 1.8 и оба глаза будут четкие. и нос кстати тоже
Hey Julia! Was curious if you are planning on doing a review ok the Fujifilm X-H2? Would be curious to hear your thoughts and opinions on that camera. I enjoy the content! Keep up the good work 👍🏻
If I had infinite money I’d sell my a7c and get the a7cr for b cam/ photos and a zv-e1 for video for that low light performance. A7c in low light concerts I’ve gotten good video so this a7cR I’m seriously considering 😊
Still only one memory card slot? That’s disappointing. That was disappointing on the first version too, so I’m surprised they didn’t put in a second one.
Why is it soooo freakin' hard to take good selfies with the sony a7c?? Is there any remote control for this camera? Every time I put my camera on a tripod, turn off steady shot, put it on 5 second timer, it locks on to the spot that it's focused on (near) then I back away to the spot to take the shot and it's BLURRY!!!! WTF can I do???
@juliatrotti I watched a video where you show how to take portrait different ways so all the pictures don't look the same but I can't seem to find it now.
It's my own script, not from Sony. Sony only send me a spec sheet with some info about camera since there is no info about it online yet while I am making the video.
@@rewind9536 That's okay. Yeah those would be the specs that I like to include so people can learn about the camera. There is only so much re-wording of that I can do since they are mostly numbers :)
Your edits appear unnatural, resembling a doll-like visage rather than enhancing the features of a live model. The unedited skin tone present in the original picture is superior to the one achieved through editing. This discrepancy is evident not only in this particular video but also consistently across all your edits.
A7cR is a joke because if you are a professional get the A7R5 because it's an investment. And if you are a hobbyist why the hell would you need a 61mp sensor. Get one of the hybrid one.
well, then did you know 80% of Fuji GFX owners are hobbyists? GFX have camera with 51mp and 102mp. Why the hell you need a 61mp? It gives you massive scale for cropping, it can shoot full frame at different resolutions, it can be use in Super35 mode to get that extra reach without changing lens. Yes, you can get R5 and R4 for the same 61mp sensor, R4 is now a real bargain at about 2/3 price of R5.
a second card slot is like car insurance, you pay for it but hope your never actually need it lol. 3k for a camera without dual slots is crazy, but it looks like a great cam nonetheless
