For high ISO stills noise reduction I like DXO Pure Raw 2. Turn off the optional sharpening checkbox before processing and then import the processed DNG files into Capture One. DXO does awesome job on files over 3200 ISO. They have a 30 day trial version to test out. Yeah, very happy with my A7r5 and A7s3 combo, covers all my current stills and video needs. BTW, Sony is rolling out a new 24-105 G2 and 4 other lenses this year.
Ooooo def will have to grab that new 24-105. I hope it has a power xoom 😭. And then have that other AI software, forget what it’s called. I rarely use it though. Only do if it’s a photo for print.
Great review man! I really miss the raw stills from my old A7r4! I remember editing my A7R4 files vs. my A73, and a big benefit of the high resolution in low light is that you can crank the ISO but then denoise it like crazy and have an even sharper image with less noise than with lower megapixel sensors that might be cleaner out of the camera, but don't have enough detail to push denoising as far. I used to take the lightroom denoise and crank it to like 90% and it would still look very detailed whereas the 24 mgpxl images from the a73 would get super smudgy using denoise past 20%. Keep these epic vids coming my guy! Would love to see your opinion of catalyst browse, I've been shooting with the new sigma 20mm f1.4 and the results of that combo with catalyst browse stabilization are just breathtaking!
Hi Cam! Another professional photographer and youtuber here. 😊 After 14 years shooting professionally with Canon, I'm switching to Sony! So I'm very happy to see that you're loving the Sony A7RV as it's the one I've just bought for photography and video work. I wanted to say how much I love your videos as well! Big love from London! ❤
I don't know man, I have the A7 IV and the A7R V and I find myself using the A7 IV more in Low Light and just in general. I use the R V for portraits and well lit spaces. When the R V is used though it comes up Big! The photos are amazing, so you you almost have to do more editing on them to get rid of some unwanted things. But they are both great cameras. I should mentions I am a Wedding Photographer so I don't use video that often.
No rolling shutter issues so far. Granted I haven’t used it like a bitty gritty handheld a cam yet. Idk if I ever would since I have the FX6. But I’m sure their will be a moment.
Thanks man!! Same workflow I’ve always used for the grading. Biggest difference is, how much dynamic range I have to work with now vs when I would shoot these on canon haha
@@cammackey Oh yes, You are absolutely right about the dynamic range, I really love the grade it is beautiful, the shadows, skin tones in the bulb hehehe, great work, and Fx6, Sony color science is impressive. Thanks for review.
Nice review, brother. I liked the A7R4 perhaps a bit more than you did. My biggest problem with that camera was always around workflow. Everything about it was just slow, laggy, and a bit unstable on top of that. Never had a problem with the sensor; it's a lovely sensor. IMO people need to realize that this camera, even though it has a few new fancy things, is really more of an evolution of the A7R4 to bring the workflow (CFX-A, stronger wifi radio..etc) in-line with the newer Sony bodies, and as such I think it's a success.
I think the screen and viewfinder are better now. Before if I wanted to use af tracking, it would dumb it down to 12bit raw as well I think. Also having better raw compression options too. It’s basically a brand new body built around the same sensor. Which I’m happy with now. I believe it has an updated camera science too, not that that matters as much these days for me personally.
Hi Cammackey, can I just ask you why you say the A7R5 4k is sharper than the FX6 4k? I mean the 7R5 is pixel binned vs the FX6 with full pixel readout (that should be the same as the A7S3). I'm considering upgrading to the A7R5 for video, but literaly everyone on YT is saying that the 7S3 (or FX6) is way sharper due to the full pixel readout. Thanks for helping!
I’m really interested in the dynamic range compared to the A7RIV. The 4 did not have a good of DR as the III which was a huge negative for me. The V uses the same sensor as the IV but they claim improvements. I’m really interested if it is at least 15 stops as that is what it will take to get me to switch to the V. I’m just used to the 15 stops from the III.
I’m photos right? I can’t say, I don’t recall having an issue with dynamic range on the IV. I did have an issue with the raw files being dumbed down to 12 bit just to get autofocus tracking. I don’t believe the V has the same issue
I am seriously debating on getting the A7R5 or just wait for the new A1 mark ii next year. But man I got to say you are really making it difficult for me lol 😅
@cammackey Yea, I'm not in a rush to buy a new camera. I'm happy with A74 and FX3 combo for run and gun work. However my A7r3 is getting "long at the tooth" and struggles with my G-master glass when it comes to the AF.
for photos, can i also track the way you did? by toggling onto a subject? or is there some better way that these new cameras track subjects? i use an old 5dm3 and curious because i'd like to upgrade. is there a button to press where it just tracks the subject, and if the subject has eyes, it auto tracks the eyes? and again, toggle to unfocus?
I like your honest thoughts on the camera. Not talking about boring specs and numbers, but instead real life application. And I enjoy even more seeing honest opinions on how it works in real life vs just boring numbers games.
I do concert photography too & I have been trying to find a video about this camera & the topic of shows. I am currently using the a7iv but am thinking about the RV instead now. What are your thoughts about the green color cast once you're at 5000 ISO & above?
Hey there, i am a big fan of your videos and i also love your photography style a lot 🙌🏻 can i ask you how you got your Sony in that color ? Did you do it by yourself ? I looks amazing 🤩 thumbs up, and greetings from Luxembourg 🇱🇺 West Europe ✌🏼
Love watching your videos. I have the same kit and absolutely love it. Just wondering if you wound up keeping any of your Fuji kit and if so which pieces?
I love your setup!! I have been contemplating upgrading from the IV to the V. Bro, give the S&Q a chance! Try it to make a vintage 8mm film..you will love it!!
I like your work and your channel but this doesnt seem right to me. Ive owned the A7RIV and I currently own a R5 and between my personal experience and what i see in tests on DPreivew and the DR results on Photonstophotos when comparing high ISO noise photos of the R5 to the A7RV, the A7RV always has more noise and less DR. I would like for you to make a video comparison between the A7RV and the R5 8K RAW files since yes i agree, Canon cripples the R5 with no cLog2 unless you do RAW and change it in Resolve. Could you please make that comparison? I know you dont like RAW due to file size but RAW will be the only way to see what the R5 is really capable of when compared to the A7RIV which doesnt have internal RAW so doing a best of test best image quality settings head to head would be good to see.
I personally have no interest in doing that comparison. Even if on “paper” it says the r5 has more dynamic range.. they gut it by limiting it with clog 3. And why would I test the raw against the A7RV if I don’t plan on ever using the raw? All my videos are based off personal experience. And the A7RV 1000% allows me to stretch the dynamic range way more. There was even times when shooting outdoors the Canon R5 where the blacks were clipped while trying to preserve the highlights. Where on the A7RV I can accidentally under expose and all the info will still be there. May be noisey af, but the info is still there. Which I prefer over canon clipping the shadows.
Thanks man. Great video and great camera. Seems to be something if with the colors of the video though, the videos of you I saw before had a great look, but the colors in this video seem a bit “dirty” and washed out. Just an observation, no criticism. Keep up the good stuff 👍🏻
@cammackey would you be interested in the FX9? Or is the FX6 more than enough? Also would love to see your full set of gear your 2023 shoots both for clients and personal use!
I’m still figuring out my kit rn. So overwhelmed with all the lens choices so it’s gonna take a few gigs for me to figure out the perfect kit! And the FX9 isn’t necessary for me personally. The FX6 has everything I need. If I was going to use a camera that large would only do so if I had a full team. And at that point we tend to use RED
Thanks very helpful - Im a hybrid event shooter. I'm looking at the A7R5 and the Tamron 20 - 40mm, I learned a lot from this video. I was trying to figure if the Panasonic S5II would work for me mainly because of the ibis. 👍
One of the other reviews @Manny Ortiz says the color science has been improved in this a7rv and is on par with canon’s colors…. What’s your option this?
Which camera has better and sharper photo and video quality? Canon R6 II or Sony a7RV??? Does Sony's high noise in low light become a problem or can it be fixed with editing programs? Does Sony's high megapixel and powerful processor solve the problem of noise in the final product after editing better than Canon? I am between these two options. Canon or Sony. The accuracy, clarity and sharpness of images or videos in low light is very important. Most of the users criticize the noise created in the images and videos of a7rv. What is your opinion on this matter?
You get sharpness from lenses. Sensors almost all look the same when it comes to clarity. MP can make it look like there’s more sharpness but that more depends on the resolution of the screen you’re looking at. Sony does not have noise in low light. Almost no camera has bad noise in low light, specially for photos. When it comes to video.. if you under expose a log image, you’re going to get noise on any camera. The fact is canon favors dynamic range in the lower end but Sonys dynamic range is more even across the lower and higher end while also giving you more and cleaner dynamic range that canon. Some people might think canon is cleaner but that’s because they limit the dynamic range in clog 3.. they could get more dynamic range if they gave us clog 2 but there would be a lot of noise and most people don’t know how to actually color grade outside of just using LUTs. All of the questions you asked are from being badly informed! Gotta be super careful who you listen to brutha. Seek advice from working professionals or from people that have super high quality work! Everyone else might just be faking it haha.
Im just curious isn’t the a7s3 a better option than this it’s low MP should mean better lowlight. Also another question on the A7r5 you can switch to medium raw which is 26mp would that give you better lowlight on this sensor.
There’s a lot of mixed information out there. I haven’t tried the S3 myself so can’t say. All I know is the A7RV holds a lot of detail so when I Denoise in post it looks damn good. I rather hold on to the MP and down size in post. That makes the noise more fine as well
Nope. Low mp = better lowlight is a myth mate. Higher mp sensor are better in lowlight due to capturing more detail. What makes a camera better in lowlight is not whether is has less noise than the other, but rather which camera retains more detail in the end result - that camera is always the higher mp camera. A7rv vs a7siii videos have shown the the a7siii to have less noise but also far less detail in lowlight. Whereas the a7rv had more noise but way more detail so that when you applied NR in post, all that detail is still there; detail that would be permanently gone/irreparable on the a7siii.
The 60fps crop. Would drive me crazy. There were a few other reasons but I don’t recall at this point. I think it was maybe the image quality of the monitor and viewfinder too.
I have the Canon R6 Mark II and R7. I’m heavily debating on switching to either an A7SIII and A7IV or two A7IVs. I’m tired of Canon limiting their cameras and lenses and want the greatest low light and dynamic range performance. What would you recommend I do? Switch to Sony or stick to my current cameras?
Oh man I’m not in the business of recommending. It’s hard cause everyone’s needs are different, so there’s no way I could give you my own personal best input. All I can say is that with Sony you’ll def get mroe dynamic range and lens options. And depending on the camera, better low light opportunities
No need. Neat video is next level for severe noise. DR NR is great too but it’s too different technologies I believe. Neat video scans a portion of the noise and makes custom Denoise profiles for that specific shot
@@cammackey nice! Yeah it’s the weight and size that’s my only concern about it. Think I have to go to a store and test it on my camera too see how it feels
