Seems Sony have basically given up on EVF attachments and just expect you to buy a 3rd party one , since the fx9. This must be some cost point and now part of the plan, their designers can just not be that bad. I think buying this camera or not is down to your current work or the work you are aiming at. If you have an fx9 and doing doc/corp stuff , not really a lot of point to change to shoot XAVC 4K, if you want to get into commercials , higher end music video, indie features / narrative TV, then its a pretty good deal and you can use it for the doc/corp 4k XAVC stuff too.

The image looks and feels like an upgraded FX9, not a 'mini Venice'. Sony should have released a good 6k mid-tier that sat under the V2, perhaps even using the V1 sensor - not the A1 photo sensor they've used here. Cannot justify the £25k price tag with this kind of RS and soft 6k. It's an A1 with ND filters.
@ricardosousa11
@ricardosousa11 6 месяцев назад
It looks nice, but very far from what it should look like imo, let alone a 25k camera. It looks very very video'ish for a cinema camera. If you show these shots side by side with an fx6 and people wont tell them apart, apart from the resolution.

You're right. The camera is nice but they are charging $18,000 more than FX6 to have a similar image, but in 8K with a better codec. I think Burano should have been priced between $12 and $16K. $25K is overpriced.

This is all natural light pretty much. Just one softbox keylight on the artist to make it more flattering on her. And one small hard light when in the bar to emphasis the natural light from the window, just because it was nice but wasn't quite hitting the area we wanted by the pumps. Really glad you liked the footage though!

It is interesting to note that X-OCN has a similar spread of data rates as ProRes on the Fuji X-H2, and unlike the VENICE, you don’t need to spend 4 grand each on the recording media (AXS). The BURRITO uses CFexpress B. I do expect to see X-OCN ‘raw’ on Sony’s mirrorless cameras eventually, like a future a7s IV, but they need to fucking get on with it as it has been around since 2016. Something mirrorless cameras have generously given the BURRITO in return for nothing back is IBIS, by the way. Yes, the BURRITO features IBIS, which Sony said was not possible to do with an internal ND filter. This gives me hope that we will be finally getting internal ND filters on our IBIS lumbered mirrorless cameras, and that Sony were simply lying. It is far more likely for the latter to turn out to be true than the former.

man i want one. But i dont think i can justify for weddings. FX3 is doing just amazing already. Need to see some comparisons. Lowlight i think fx3 will still take the cake. Just give us a mark 2 fx3 with 12bit and built in nds. Do that and we al gonnna buy.

FX3 is a great camera for weddings. I used to use the original A7s back when I filmed them (a while ago now!). I think I would miss the EVF though so would probably choose the A7s III over the FX3 for that kind of work now.

@carlyates2487
@carlyates2487 6 месяцев назад
I know its the current trending topic, but I wouldn't call it a dealbreaker. It's considerably faster than the FX9 for example. Is it disappointing? Yes, I was hoping it would be more like 12-15ms. Does it render the camera useless now? Absolutely not. The FX9 has been widely used across the industry and this is faster. The FX6, A7s III & FX3 have always had an exceptionally fast read out speed because of their native 4K 12MP sensor. The higher the resolution goes the more rolling shutter you are going to see.
@InfamousStar1
@InfamousStar1 6 месяцев назад
True, but the Venice 2 managed to have 3.2ms in 8.2K mode. So it is possible to have good rolling shutter at higher resolution, especially coming from the same camera manufacturer that was able to achieve that lower ms count. As an owner of multiple FX6s and FX3s (and former F55 owner), I had high hopes for the BURANO. But based on what I’ve seen for the price point, this is a hard pass.

I'm a Canon user, so the Burano isn't really on my wish list. I am intrigued by the ergonomic differences choices between Canon and Sony, though. The Sony is obviously designed as a shoulder mount camera for handheld. Canon is designed to be used with a shoulder strap and cradled, although many people don't realize that. I have never been able to get shoulder mount to work ergonomically for me no matter how I rig a camera, so I find it interesting that Sony doesn't give a way of using the hand grip attached to the body more in the center of mass for cradling the camera.

For me the main selling point of the Burano is the internal 16-bit RAW X-OCN codec, IBIS paired with the linear VND filters and the fast hybrid AF. It’s an amazing camera for any kind of professional work and suited for both single camera operators and small crews but it comes with a significant price tag.

I mean if you want to win today yoyu need to throw in the kitchen sing... and in many ways they do with the Burano... they made a great camera.. But... I am (Like many others) in the situation that the industry is changing... you need to film in RAW on rented RED cameras one day, together with a big crew... Interviews in a medical LAB another day, and then small snippets for instagram the next day.. sad but true. Open gate is possible with full frame Panasonic cameras that cost close to nothing.. Im looking forward to see what Nikon is gonna do with their new RED deal, and how Canon will answer. They have been awfully quiet in a long time, Canon that is. You're right. The skin tones on Burano are pinkish like FX6. But if you look at the footage shot with the Sony lens, the color is a little better. The camera does render skin in a pinkish tone, but those godawful Nisi Athena lenses are helping contribute to that plastic looking image and strange looking skin tones in the XOCN footage. I hate those Athenas. I got brainwashed with the reviews and bought a set, only to be terribly disappointed with the image. I hated the lenses so much that I returned and took a 15% restocking fee hit.

Glad you liked the footage. Thanks for watching. Where do you think it should be priced? Which cameras would you use as reference?
@InfamousStar1
@InfamousStar1 6 месяцев назад
Agreed. In addition, this appears to use the same 8.6K sensor from the A1, and is not the same sensor from the Venice line; and the footage coming from the BURANO looks more in line with that camera (the A1), as well as the FX6 / FX9, than anything you’d get from the Venice line; it doesn’t have that Venice “look” unfortunately. That said, it’s way overpriced; should be priced around $12k USD max. Sure, the imagine quality coming from an 8.6K sensor over 4K sensor will be sharper, but I don’t think it’s necessary “better”; the dynamic range appears to be the same between the two lines of cameras, and CVP recently came out and said the rolling shutter was almost 17-18ms, whereas the FX3 / FX9 is around 8ms, and the Venice 2 around 3.3ms. 17-18ms is appalling for a $25k camera. If users don’t need 8K, they’re better off with a FX6 paired with a Ninja V+ to get the most out of that system, for 1/4 the price.
@SuperPhunThyme100
@SuperPhunThyme100 6 месяцев назад
I think around 15-17K would be fair. I think the mid range industry has been trending towards the 10k-15k range over the past 10 or so years since the F5 and 55 came out. 25K is just a hair too much in the modern market. @@carlyates2487
@SuperPhunThyme100
@SuperPhunThyme100 6 месяцев назад
@carlyates2487 It feels like the natural evolution/successor to the FX9, and many of us FX9 users were hoping for a new/updated "FX9" model in the 10-15k price range, especially considering the FX9 was left out of the announced firmware updates for the FX30, FX3, and FX6 back in January. But at 25,000, people in that very popular $15ishK price range have been priced out, and dont have a new alternative to go to. I mean, I'm pretty sure the sensor in the Burano is from the A1, and according to Alister Chapman, the Burano borrows a lot of processing from the FX6, so in essence, it feels more like a modern FX9 than a $25,000 CineAlta. What the FX9 was to the FS7, is what the Burano should be to the FX9.
