yeah i've seen people review a 50,000 dollar phase one and hasselblad but they only shoot a fence and tree bark

This is the problem with RU-vid reviewers: most of them are not very skilled photographers, yet we often follow their advice. In my opinion, Lee is one of the best because he incorporates real-life situations into his portrait photography videos...

Just picked up the 24mm. Svelt, compact and super light. Perfect for taking into restaurants, cafes, travel without feeling like paparazzi.

These 3 lenses along with the 50mm f/1.2 are the first lenses that have ever made me very tempted to own a Sony body to go with my Fujifilm and Nikon bodies. That 40mm is EXTREMELY tempting and priced very nicely. It's so nice to see lenses with aperture rings on them (that actually have clicks too).

I'm in the same boat. I have a 24-70 and a 55mm...I just feel like the 40mm is perfect between 50 and 35mm

40mm is actually a really good focal length, dead normal is 43 and only Pentax has that but they have the least amount of distortion of any focal length, its true reality, 28mm on a crop body is also very good

There's something special about this 50mm. I still want to test it side by side with the 50mm f1.2 GM, but from what I've seen it almost looks sharper, clearer or there's better contrast compared to the GM. Can't quite put my finger on it but It is just an amazing little lens

40mm is not a weird focal length at all! It was actually the standard on a lot of 35mm film cameras. Might be weird for you though. I do agree with you about the 24mm however. It's very generic to me. Like an iPhone or something. I prefer the 28 myself.

@@LeeZavitz ya that has become one of my favorite focal lengths when I started shooting 35mm film. Not as tight as the 50 and not as wide as the 35. Little bit of a sweet spot. So far for me it's been the 28, 40/45, and now 85. Curious if I find something like the 65/70 more to my liking but so far I'm loving my sony 85mm 1.8. No complaints. Although it does feel a tad too tight at times. It's much more specific for certain

@@jorgesierra3203 I've been shooting the Sony 28mm f2. It's an awesome lens. I do wish it was more pancake like lol but it's a special little lens and I love that I can turn it into an ultra wide 21mm and a fish eye if I choose

@@akyerit I had been considering getting it for a couple of years but the only reason that stopped me was the form factor since it'd be for street photography. I really love the form of this new lenses but I really wished they made a 28.

Agreed it does seem Sony is targeting Fuji shooters with these and the a7c hoping to entice them to move to full frame

@@tonykennedy2344 It's kinda working for me. I would consider giving the Sony a7C with these small lenses a chance against my X-Pro3 and f2 primes. Makes no sense but full frame is still tempting.

That 24mm is tempting considering that I can’t afford the 24GM for videos. I shoot lots of indoors but find the higher ISOs look decent even on 2.8 and dimly lit places.

I don’t have access to either of them. But I would like to get an A1 to shoot with. The fx3 is just an a7siii without an evf and replaced with a fan. So the review would mostly just come down to the formfactor and body choices

Was just curious as to why you opted to use spot focus with eye/face detection turned off? I always assumed you would get the best results from just leaving that on but now I'm wondering if you know something that I don't!

I trigger eye af with the af-on button. I have more control that way. That way I always nail focus if eye af doesn’t work

on 40mm 2.5, can you mount the lens hood, once you put the filter on? or does the filter have to go on the hood itself?

Can anyone help explain the science behind why some shots has 1/4000 shutter vs 1/400? Trying to learn manual shooting

Because some photos were taken later, so the sun was really close to the horizon. That's why it was about ten times darker and he had to expose longer.

I think I would still choose the Sony 35mm f1.8 but I think Sony was trying to make these lenses super compact and because of that f2.5 was the compromise

@@LeeZavitz I liked your video, it was a quick and fun review with real life use, good job. The images looked good. What was the crop sensor body you used? I didnt see this mentioned. Was curious if it was an A6400 as you said it focused even better than A7iii. Did you try them all on the crop body. I am also interested in the 40mm for my A7iii. I have Sigma 35 art and 50 art and Tamron 28-70, and they are all bulky for fun shoots.

@@LeeZavitz Already the 7c has more reliable autofocus and it is priced lower than the a7 iii (and the a7 iv) with the same persistent sensor. It also works great with those small budget lenses and it would be my choice.

You just have to believe what Im saying because the images don’t lie. If things were bad I would say they are bad. If you knew me personally you would know that integrity is everything to me. No one is paying me anything. And Anybody that is getting paid will have to disclose it as per the rules.

I also opened the lenses and used them days before we filmed me “unboxing” them. So I guess I can see what you mean about the intro. Does look like I’m selling out without ever seeing them first. But I did have experience with them beforehand

I don’t understand why I should buy these: 24/40 and 50 2.5 - why not just get ONE 24-70 2.8 - I doubt you will see any difference between 2.5 and 2.8 - looks like plain marketing to me

If you like carrying a camera when your on vacation or street photography the compactness of these lenses is a HUGE difference, esp when paired with the Sony a7c. Don’t get me wrong, I have the song a7r4 paired with a 50mm 1.2 but it gets real tiring to carry it around for hours. So 95% of the time I carry around the a7c with a compact lens.
