How to film yourself for free using the Sony Creators app, the long awaited update of the Sony Imaging Edge Mobile app. It's fast, it's reliable and it allows you to control the Sony ZV-E1 - which I'm using here in this video, Sony A7IV, Sony FX3, Sony FX30, Sony A7RV, and more to come hopefully when updated. Creators app also transfers pictures slower than the imaging edge app. I believe it's transferring raw files as well.

It's a good move, the app is a pleasant upgrade from Imaging Edge Mobile which drove me loopy. The connection holds, the image is clean and fluid, generally positive to use.

I'm jumping from a DJI Pocket to an ZV-E1. For baby steps I want to start with the Creator App and just film in studio. Do I need to be investing huge time in my on camera menus or can do my first 2 or 3 vlogs using the Creator App?

Nah, you can just set that sucker on auto and it'll do everything for you. The ZV-E1 is a sleeper camera, hardly no one knows about it, it's basically a A7Siii in disguise with A.I. features. It's by far my favourite and most used camera. The Creator App is fantastic, does a good job.

I can't get display lut setting? Is it because of the camera? I have sony a7iv. So when previewing slog on creator app I can only see grey images 😅

Great Video thanks. I have this working for my A7RV with the IPhone, but like you have said in the Video, I have issues trying to get this to then work with the iPad. You mentioned you turn one off before you use the other, did you mean "physically" ie: Power down the IPhone before using the iPad, and vice versa? I just can't seem to get it working on the iPad, which would actually be more beneficial to me. thanks again !

Hey Thanks, just installed it but wondering why the press record button does not work? Is there something I need to set up on the camera to get that working and on my iPad there seems to be missing some features like auto rotate when I turn the iPad and full display mode with out having to go Ito the app to change to full view setting...? Or am I missing something? Thanks

I have one other question Phillip. It says if the movement is skippy, turn bluetooth off. BUT if I turn Bluetooth off, I lose connection. Do you know how I make this a pure Wifi connection only? I assume this is possible, or they wouldn't tell you to turn off Bluetooth. Apologies for perhaps a dumb question here .. I am new to all this ! thanks

Love your videos! I want to connect either my Sony A7IV or A7RV to a Samsung S7 FE 12.4 inch tablet with Sony's Creator's app. Can I use a 20 or 25 foot USB-C to USB-C cable for a better connection?

It’s not tethered I’m afraid, only wireless. If you want a stronger connection you’d need to pick up something like an Accsoon wireless system, those things are great!

Mine errors out and claims it wont work when in photo mode while on my fx3 for some reason??? Albeit I've only had the app installed for 1 week, so more research is needed!

Yes! It took them some time to dial it in, but it’s perfect now. It would be cool if they had a “pro” button with more filmmaker tools in it.

Does it track birds in this mode and do you need to change the setting. I have it in bird mode and tracking humans when I’ve not selected it

I'm afraid I've never tracked a bird, not once, which is odd as there are always tonnes on the roof opposite my balcony. I guess the answer depends on what camera you are using.

No, that's not something you'll see. If you want something better then Monitor + is the way to go.

You can tap to focus, but that depends on your camera and lens, hopefully Sony will continue to update the app as it’s a lifesaver in a lot of situations.

Really? I haven't seen any myself. I did a video on the Imaging Edge App years ago, and now I'm using this, which is absolutely a different app. It works super smoothly, and I love it.

Its not as stable as imaging edge. Imaging edge disconnects if you view pictures on the camera. Most people haven't realized that you can't do that. Creators app doesn't have the connection distance but allows you to view pictures on camera while staying connected. Just can't go as far away as the imaging edge app. Creators app also transfer file slower. I believe it's because it transfers raw files as well.

I’m using a7iv. Mine doesn’t automatically show the box for eye detection untill I press half shutter. Can you help me what setting show I turn on

I think that only works in video mode, in photo only if you press the shutter half down like you say.

My Sony A7IV and Sony A7CMII won't connect to my iPhone 14 ProMax through the Creators App. Per Sony Technical Support, the iPhone 14 Pro Max is not a compatible device with my cameras. This again per Sony Technical Support!

I have not updated my firmware on the A7IV yet because I am waiting for review like this and was thinking about getting Monitor+ which is better but get's bricked if you update Sony to the newest firmare.I never bought Monitor + bc I had it disconnect every 5 minutes or so for some odd reason. But would rather have Monitor Plus than the Sony App. The older Sony App was horrible and Buggy.

Monitor + is okay, Camrote too, this works just as well, but without the more advanced filmmaker tools. Imaging Edge gave me grey hair lol. For me the Creators App does 99% of what I need an app to do, including LUTs, I’m just missing focus assist for manual lenses.

@@PhillipSkraba There were "raving" reviews about Monitor + but I could never get it to work properly and I did want ti. But it just disconnected all the time surely due to my having airport or wifi or something not turned off or on properly, but it far exceeds all other apps from what I have seen, but never worked for me to buy it. Thanks for the heads up that the newer app is apparently better for Sony. Does it disconnect or get stuck often like the older app did? it was brutal to use, so I never used it more than once.

Well, all three work pretty well and are way more stable than on older Sony cameras. Creator app is no doubt the simplest and most primitive of the lot.

edge worked great. I HATE the creators app with all my heart and soul. it's so frustrating that edge worked now that ive been forced to use the creators app it will not work. I've installed and uninstalled paired and unpaired and heard recently if I update my Sony a7iv to 2.01 firmware it will work.. I did .... and lo and behold..... it still doesn't work... smh.

They are the most frustrating apps in the whole wide world. Yesterday, I switched my 7" monitor to my iPad and started using it as a talking head monitor, and I don't use either of these apps, I use the Monitor+ app and it seems to work the best out of all of them, and it is way more stable, plus it has a TON of filmmaking tools in it.
