Sony FDR-AX53 - Lens Hood + Lens Cap + UV Filter 55mm 

For those who have the earlier AX33 the Mennon 16:9 lens shade for 52mm's works just fine if used w/o the UV filter. If it is screwed onto the UV filter there is some wide angle vignetting when walking with unit because of the BOSS lens motion.

I tried a few lens hoods and filters and polarizers. There is no problem with a thin filter, but on some filters you will see it. I see the lens hoods all the time. If you set the camera to max video stabilzation it crops in some and you won't see them anymore. But you lose the wide open zoom ability. There is another option in the menu called filter protector. That works. But it seems to give me funny movements.

To avoid this problem buy a 55 to 72 or 82 mm adaptor and install a wider hood on it.

Nice video i only wish i could get a Lens hood like the one on the AX100 Camcorder,also i find if its a bright day its very difficult to see a bird in the sky using the Viewfinder.

A cure, i use a mennon rectangular hood with a 55 to 72 ring, i can use filters with it but had to scrape the inside corners of the hood a bit to remove the dark corners issues,

Good idea - I should have fitted a UV filter when I bought the AX53.

Can you post a link to the hood that does not obstruct the view in wide angle? Does such thing exist at all for this camera?

you need a step up ring
