I bought this lens after owning the Canon 11-24 for 9 months and I love the canons IQ but the Sony is my winner all the way around. Thanks for the review and keep up the great work.

Fantastique hands on, Daniel, 12-24G is a marvel, at half the weight & 2/3rd the price of 11-24L. Sigma 12-24 Art is as heavy as Canon's, so no competition there either. Sony is now the undisputed king of UWA zooms. I am not sure how the Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 III L compares to G-Master 16-35 ! Thanks.

Good review. Thank you. What is Sony's 12-24 barrel distortion at full 12mm? I have Sigma 12-24 with Commlite. Zero distortions (best in business), but lots of issues with auto focus (adapter issue).

Which setup would you recommend me to pair with Sony A7RV + Tamron 50-400mm F4.5-6.3 if I will use it/them mainly for ultrawide and everyday photos with crop, video will be shoot mainly with Panasonic HC-X1500 25-600mm?: 1) Sony 12-24mm F4 2) Tamron 17-50mm F4 3) Laowa 10-18mm F4.5-5.6 + 17-50mm First one cover more range but not sure if they will update this 6 years old lens soon, second is the same Tamron series but cover less range, third get even wider range but will be 3 lenses, I think the first is more practical for me, but what do you think, did I missed anything?

I shoot architecture professionally... I am moving from nikon (D800 with 14-24) to sony A7RII. I am considering this lens. how sharp is it at f10? Is there a fallout towards the edges? Can somebody point me to photos I can inspect (preferably of interior). Thanks guys.. Great review!!!

I'll stick to the Canon, I tried the Sigma 12-24 on a 5D Mark 4 & given where I want to go Canon has the features, practicality (battery life) especially & build quality that I want for travel. However I'm sure if you going to Central Europe than the Sony is probably just fine & is still an exciting offering all the same. If you have the $ buy both.

bobbintonn ah I tested the Canon and the Sony,and the Sony blew the Canon away in every department possible so if you have a Sony, sell the Canon and get this awesome lens. I own Canon lenses like the 35mm 1.4l ii which I consider superior than the Sony Zeiss but this 12-24mm beats the Canon 11-24 I tested

shaolin95 Equally I could just get the Sigma 12-24 f4. I'm happy enough with that & save quite a few $ than either Sony ,Canon or even Nikon. Although I have far more confidence in the durability of Canon than the others even if Sony was to be sharper.

F4 is super for the light weight you get, compare it the Canon 11-24mm, double weight and the results are better with the Sony lens.

the daniel life The Canon is 1mm wider & going wider every mm counts. Sony seems to balance out whatever advantages it has somewhere else, which counts too! So overall when buying it's not always that simple & you could potentially pay more for it in the end. The same between all brands. Sony excites,but Canon has peace of mind for me. The Canon 5 D Mark 4 is fun to use & not like the Sony A7 R2 . If weight a problem , buy a Peak Design Capture Pro when finished clip it on to the shoulder strap of your backpack & the weight problem if you have it at all vanishes.

Only downside if the fact you cant usr filters.... So forget about nice smooth watershots

NiSi and some other manufacturers make adapters specifically for this lens. Once that's on you can drop in any 150mm filter you'd want. Many also include a space for a CPL.
