Full Parts in the description above! Total cost (excluding camera/lens) came up to around $2100 before tax (or the budget option is around $900 - manual follow focus, smallrig mattebox, excluded video transmitter and a cheaper monitor). A full FX30 production breakdown is coming around February! 🎉 LUT PACK WINNER THIS WEEK IS...... TEN27!! Please email me at victorlaforteza.yt@gmail.com

One part that I would buy instead of the V mount battery is the Ulanzi charger for Sony FP batteries which doubles as a PD power bank because of its USB-C out port. Also has a Dtap port. That way I can economically use Sony FP style batteries which last forever on this camera. Just make sure to use a USB-C cable that supports power delivery such as Kondor Blue (expensive but worth it, supporting up to 10v, 5 amps).

@Milan-cf1xe
@Milan-cf1xe Год назад
The shinobi has some good things, but other things are a deal breaker for me. First of all the color accuracy is really garbage. Ven after buying a 100 dollar cable to calibrate it, it isnt perfect. Then it takes a while to start up and shut down and the menus are better then almost all other brands but still dont very fast and intuitive. Small HD is simply the best with their menus, but sadly too expensive. The focus peaking is very bad with the Shinobi, there is no pinch to zoom and it has a problem with displaying luts too contrasty. So all in all, while i really want to like it, the Shinobi has too much flaws for me, to be a professional tool. Now i ordered the Portkeys and i am really excited to test it out.

I ended up going with the FX3 but I do a lot of vertical IG content so I went with a more lightweight rig that I can easily go vertical or horizontal with depending on the shot. That was the main reason I went with the FX3 instead of FX6. The FX6 seems like it would need a lot more accessories to make vertical shooting feasible. And the 3.5mm microphone jack on the body was huge for me as well since I don't always want to use the huge XLR handle. Still waiting on some pieces to arrive so I can finally put it all together.
@VictorLaforteza
@VictorLaforteza Год назад

Actually if the power delivery is 9V 3A then it stalls the battery drainage while in use and charge it when you shut it for a moment or so. Tried that with the USB-C port on my beefy ZGCine 200WH and after 9 hours total and 3:15 hours of total video+photo the camera is still 100% and of course the 200WH is an overkill but bought it to mount 65W COB on the camera on my last documentary and can take as well the 110W Colbor CL100X easily via D-Tap to USB-C cable that is made by Colbor themselves. Might get a 300WH battery next for night wildlife filmmaking.

Is it safe to power the camera and monitor using the same V-mount battery? I’ve been told not to power my camera and monitor using the same V-mount battery because it’ll fry the HDMI port and possibly the camera. Is this true? (I shoot on the fx30) I'm using a small rig vb50 battery. I have an 8v dc connection to my monitor and a 9v USB-C power delivery to my camera.
@VictorLaforteza
@VictorLaforteza Год назад
USBC should be okay! The vmount has voltage regulation and I think the camera has it too! It’s only when you use the dummy battery (at least the cheap unregulated ones) could fry the camera. Getting good cables can help as well!

The devil in in the details they say... perhaps not, but how annoying it is when details are skipped away ! This is why I take good notice of those ultra-slim HDMI cables. When too thick, they are stiff to the point the just snap in the middle of a delicate pan movement. When too flimsy they just hang and dangle, hitting handles or tripod legs or opened screens... cables also are probably a devil's thing !!! ✋😈👌 It may not be the sexiest part of your list, but it sure is that Achille's heel (or hell !) of a serious rig. Many times I told my son, you can have the most expensive car in the World... what if your accelarator cable breaks ? This is why top-quality cables matter, a lot ! So, thank you for mentionning good ones, they are now on my (Christmas ?) list. Eventually in my bag, some day soon.

well the smallrig battery lasts for about 10-12 hours of continuous shooting. I think that's enough to cover an entire wedding day haha or atleast change it when you have a small break in between the ceremony and reception! It's not too troublesome to unplug and change a new v mount into the rig :)

haven't tried pro res raw on the fx30 as I have no use for it but it is way more flexible than the internal codecs. Is it worth it? depends on the type of work!

@@VictorLaforteza 😍 what kind of works would prores raw would be recommended on?. I don't know, the fx30 screen isn't that good and I could buy a ninja V for less than 500 bucks. Back in the days it was way more expensive, especially the plus version
@VictorLaforteza
@VictorLaforteza Год назад
@@giuliomalloni3975 something like you would give the footage to a colorist! big budget ones. I mean it also helps with any type of work but I find the internal codec is pretty good already to grade and play around with that's why I stuck with a monitor vs a recorder :)

Nice rig buddy! By now you've used the fx3, fx30, a7IV and I think the a7sIII. Which one of these do you use the most and which one of these would you say is your favorite?
@VictorLaforteza
@VictorLaforteza Год назад
Thanks dude! Last year, the a7iv was my most used camera for RU-vid and hobby stuff! Image quality of the video is amazing and photo is an added benefit for me. My favourite is the fx3 still because it’s an a7siii with a really nice small cinema style body. Video centric more like. It might be taken over by the fx30 because it’s such a good camera for it’s price and apsc doesn’t really hold me back. The a7siii was good during my rentals with it but it still felt like a hybrid (which it is) but it should’ve been just the fx3 all along.
@bartsimpson2131
@bartsimpson2131 Год назад
@@VictorLaforteza Well put, I see your point! I went for the a7sIII, just because I though viewfinder might come in handy and that I might enjoy taking some photos on the go, although 90% would be for video use... (coming from blackmagic cameras that are purely video-centric). I am bummed though that the things I'm missing on the a7s III, could be fixed with a software update, (preview LUTs, better menu system, etc), but I don't think Sony's going to do that... which is kind of silly. What features do you miss from the fx3 whilst you were using the a7sIII or IV? And do you find yourself using the viewfinder that much? I haven't had a chance to use the fx3, so I don't know what I might be missing physically (potentially better button layout for video, better grip, tally lights...) Thanks once again for your feedback!
@BeaveBallin7
@BeaveBallin7 Год назад
I went for the A7siii for similar reasons as you. Also got it new for $1000 cheaper than an FX3 so it was a no brainer. Been very happy with it the last 2 weeks
@VictorLaforteza
@VictorLaforteza Год назад
@@bartsimpson2131 I think I miss the convenience of the layout a lot when I use the hyrbid bodies. I set it up almost similar to the FX3 body but there's just something to it that works very well with that cine body. Tally lights are good as well, it's a good feature but I can always get by with the red box on the screen while recording. Really not much to miss haha just preference and added convenience which I believe doesn't worth the big price jump. I would've bought the a7siii if it was in stock when I was shopping but I only found one fx3 during that time so I jumped on it lol
@bartsimpson2131
@bartsimpson2131 Год назад
@@VictorLaforteza There's just something about that gunmetal, venice-looking finish that makes it look nice. When I was buying my a7sIII, the difference was more than a 1000$, just like Steve, so it seemed like a no brainer too. I was going to go for the fx3, but as I said, I;ve never used hybrid cameras before, so I thought the more friendly photo capabilities might come in handy if I ever wanted to get in to photography, since I don't have a dedicated photography camera. But yeah, if the differences were bigger, as in if the FX3 had false color, shutter angle (again with the software), I definitely would've gone for it. It's a real pity they don't provide these types of firmware updates. I remember getting firmware updates on the bmpcc 4k, it's like getting a new camera (better frame rate options, rgb histogram, gen 5, etc). I know Sony's capable of doing this....I''m being a bit spoilt here. They're all amazing and capable cameras, very thankful that we have these sorts of problems in this day and age :) Thanks for the info Victor and take care you guys!
