SONY FX6 - 1 YEAR LATER 

Still have my A7Siii for now but was debating selling it and my A7Riii for the A1 and FX6 combo

Really undecided now haha was going for an URSA but this seems very attractive too ^^

Got the A7siii but I'd like the FX6 for the ENDs and the professionalism form factor not to mention the dedicated filmmaking form factor, added weight for more steady but still nicely cinematically shaky handheld feel

Wishlist would be fx6 and 6k pro lol

I went with the FX3 (financial + availability considerations) although I'd love to get an FX6 once we're sure that the world isn't going to lock down again. But the FX3 is great for a lot of smaller client and personal work and I wouldn't get rid of it.

Totally. All FX6 raves and reviews are meaningless if you CANNOT ACTUALLY BUY ONE! Have a friend who has been looking to buy one for 8 months, he really needs one for his business and paying clients. I told him to just screw it and buy an FX9 instead. More $$ and larger but at least you can get one. Have heard rumors that there will not be many, if any available until Spring 2022, although that could be a BS rumor too.

I just finally got one after checking google daily for months. I opened it up and emount lens eject pin is stuck in place so lenses do not click/lock into place. Had to send in to sony for warranty repairs having it less that 24 hours 😩.

@@hylermedia Dude! I am so sorry for you, that SUCKs! Don't walk under any ladders or walk on any sidewalk cracks. Let us know how responsive Sony is in fixing it and getting it back to you.

@@danbrockettDOP Thanks and will do! Yeah I couldn’t believe it. I have multiple sony cameras, popped in a gmaster lens into the fx6 and thought I was doing something wrong. Googled the problem and sure enough stuck pin.

Just get on a wait list at your local camera shop.

In my experience, I am often hired by a huge LA Production company. It's simple, you either have a C300 MKII or III, FS7 or FX9, or they won't hire you. They have an established workflow for all of these cameras, they even give you a .pdf on how they want assets formatted and archived. For them, it's not a matter of impressing them, it's a matter of they only want shooters to use what works for them and their clients (Discovery, Netflix, Food Network, etc.) It's funny, the FX6 is "Netflix Approved" for commissioned projects but you can't use it to shoot their EPK and BTS work. Because you don't get hired by Netflix, you are hired by their production company provider. I asked my producer and she said, "No, only the four cameras I named above." Even if you have an Amira, they might still hire you but only at the rate for the cameras listed above, no bump for Arri. This is the real world of how this stuff works. My friend who has been searching for an FX6 for months has a different problem. He has a group of corporate clients and they will only hire Sony. FS7, FX9, FX6, F5, F55. No Canon, no Panasonic, no BMD, no mirrorless of any brand, at least as A camera, although they will accept on a gimbal (he owns Panasonic A cam so he has had to keep renting FS7s for their shoots and he wants to BUY something, but he is set on an FX6 over a used FS7). So for his clients, I would have to do the same if I were shooting for them as I have the Canon C200 and 300 MKII. That's just how LA is. Everyone only wants what they want. Little flexibility. I really want an FX6 but it would cost me $15k because I have 14 EF lenses for my Canons. So I'd have to buy an FX6, all accessories and at least three of their Zooms which are close to $10k. if I owned E mount high end lenses, the FX6 would be a no brainer but I don't so adding one would be costly for me.

@@danbrockettDOP No doubt on larger high priced jobs you'd have to use their camera of choice! Its the same in New Zealand. Broadcast is the Sony fs or fx unless you go through a product house that has their own established requirements.

@@danbrockettDOP Is any of your EF glass Sigma? If so the mc-11 adapter + Sigma EF glass works really close to native AF

@@dna8269 I have fourteen Canon EF and EF S lenses. I like the Sigmas but didn't find out about them until I had all of my Canons a few years ago.

I like the phrase you said. It doesn't necessarily make you better, just shows you are serious. Somewhat eye-opening to be honest.

@@peterchan518 nothing right now can replace FS5II and FS7II. They took out Cache Record on the FX line. If you care for that type of feature

Yeah, codecs and image quality is what has me confused as well. I've been debating this for like 3 months lol. FX6 has every other box checked, I just really like that BM image versus Sony

@@dna8269 yup. Its really really annoying to use bmpcc4k on daily basis(plus my touch screen display started to malfunction yesterday... BM has quality issues) but once you load your image to timeline you forget it all.
