Your video was a godsend man. I’ll sub. For some reason my PSX will only launch DVD games from the LaunchELF. I didn’t know that I could launch games from there until I stumbled on your video
Hey glad I was able to help someone here! Yeah that means your burner laser is fried. Not much you can do about that. I would strongly suggest to keep using FMCB as a work around. Honestly, I like using FMCB better to skip the OS boot, since it’s very slow.
@@Ex_Savior I’ve watched some other videos that show it is possible to put a mod chip in your PSX to get functionality to play region free and burned games but I don’t think it’s worth the trouble. I already have a fat PS2 that is fully modded
@@Trebliw8 completely agree. It’s not for the faint of heart. As of now, the 7700 requires advanced modding skills, but the 7000 series can be done with a moderate soldering skills.
Hey! Thanks for the tutorial, unfortunately i have an issue, i dont know if its memory card related, will try with others when i can, but unfortunately i just get the free mc boot logo then black screen/no signal, any ideas?
I am also owning the desr 7000. luckily it works for me the readers for ps2 and ps1. But I have a problem with mcboot, I don't know which version to use. I have tried version v1.966 and I get the fcmboot home screen and then a white screen and then the Japanese screen menu. what version do you use?
I am using FMCB 1.966 as well. You have yo make sure you download a PSX compatible version. If you haven’t done so already, make sure that you set autoboot in the FMCB options to boot right into uLaunchElf.
There’s nothing wrong with the OS, it’s just the lasers crapping out. FMCB will allow you to transfer files in the HDD, so technically yes, so long as you transfer the files into the Your Saves folder.
Thanks for the video, I've got a "Failed CDVD 0x03" error when booting a PS2 DVD disk from LaunchELF/MISC/PS2Disc and as "Failed CDVD 0x02" error for PS2 CD disk, do you happen to know the reason please?
If you’re tracking later is burned out, unfortunately you can’t. The only way media will be read with the OS is with a good burner laser. Outside of that, the only thing I can thing of is using SMS.
From my understanding: The PS2 laser will read both PS1 and PS2 games, and in theory should also read CDs and DVDs. The other laser is for the DVR/Media Detection/DVD burning functionality, but it's also the primary laser, so it's used to detecg what laser should be used based on the media present. So if it's faulty, it won't switch to the PS2 laser, which uLaunch effectively bypasses.
mine doesn't read dvd's but will play cd's as i have played audio cds in it.. as for PS1 Games i dont know because i dont have any Japanese games. i have freemcboot for it. i'd like to know how to load US games in mine.. i tried what you showed but disc unsupported.. again i have no Japanese games..
A stock PSX cannot play US PS1 games. Free McBoot is not a region switcher or enabler. Even using MechaPwn will not allow for US PS1 playback. You will need to install a ModBo modchip in order to accomplish what you’re asking here.
Maybe 🤔 Compatibility: If your PlayStation number starts with 7, example: 70008 then any version of FMCB is suitable for your ps2 If the console number starts with 9, example: 90008, then opentuna and funtuna are suitable for your ps2. If your console is the Fat version (retractable drive), then only FMCB 1.966 and similar numbered versions are suitable for you.

anyone else who runs into this particular problem, check to see if your laser rails are stuck, i havent determined what exactly the issue was, but it started working correctly after i had taken it apart, reseating several ribbon cables and moving what felt like very stuck laser carriages back and forth to free up the movement, i should have regreased it but it didnt even occur to me that it was a problem till later when it was suddenly working again, that action was the only thing i did beyond testing all the switches which i hadnt in previous repair attempts
Yep - the burner laser detects the type of media inserted into the dvd drive. It can also play music cds and DVD movies. If it detects a game, it switches to the PS2 laser.
The console is for collection only and for collection purpose ,it should properly working without using hacks.Whats the point to load games using hacks ,you can do it using a phat ps2 for 50 bucks.
The problem is that they sell the console on ebay as it is in perfect condition by using hacks while the console can not read ps1 or ps2 discs and without the ability to burn dvdr because the lens is broken So the only thing that is working is the operating system. Omg and 3 lol
@@Ex_Savior the guy has a valid point, these as you stated are rare by the day, soon no1 will have a working one because people (silly imho) want to give them daily use as a regular ps2. these are to be played every blue moon and back in their boxes. But to each their own.
@@TheRealKarmaquarius All valid points, but I still like gaming on this my way. If anything, modifying consoles, in general, are means of keeping them alive. This is no different.
