There are people that sell sealed consoles even after the servers are down for the consoles, can you create a profile offline or use the internet just to make a profile even if the servers are down? I want someone who knows how PS4, PS5, XBOX One, and XBOX Series X works if servers are down and you have a sealed console? How does it work?

@@daitaliantiger21 PS5 can be set up offline and play from discs. Xbox needs internet to set up. The current PS5 model that is.

@@madgodzilla12465 Xbox 360 sales slowed down completely in the latter half of its generation and the One failed to gain any foothold. PlayStation isn't slowing down like that at the moment and isn't likely to for a while

If everything goes all digital cloud we’ll likely end up with something like OnLive attempted in its mid years, which we can already do now kind of, either simply not buying any games (which I’m honestly still unsure how developers benefit any $/revenue or whatever from it) and be tied to a catalog/rental service until games leave said service, buy them to keep and play forever, maybe have limited service options, or a combination of both. In a sense an all cloud future could potentially run develops SOL unless they decide to split and have their own services. (Or perhaps more sensibly the publishers)

This makes no sense if everyone is downlaoding the same game from a server instead of them printing booklets printing millions of discs and transporting them around the world will for sure make the games cheaper for the devs to distribute, they virtually do nothing but host a server with the game files on. and as for digital choice maybe consoles is less but on pc its a diffrent thing theres steam, epic, gog etc, sales galore because theres competition. thats a console problem, not a digital one.

Development of the games themselves ain’t cheap and as a result has (had) no impact on distribution format because people will complain if digital gets the cheap price while disc owners pay a little more, etc. as of late, perhaps since the 64-bit era we’ve not ONCE seen prices come down on games because technological advances pushes development a little more difficult, result in slightly more development time and effort.

@@deeplaysgaming4754 I remember when PC games on steam were only $50 as compared to console games at $60 because of the fact that the games on steam were downloaded, so the savings was passed on to the consumer. Don't see that anymore these days. Going all digital will not reduce the prices. They will keep them up so that they can continue to eat their cake.

I remember getting an Xbox One around launch and my boomer parents still didn't have internet in the house. Returned it the same weekend and got a PS4.

I'm pretty sure it's not made for us in the west, specifically. It's probably a much more enticing product if you travel 2 hours a day on public transit. A thing that isn't uncommon in Japan. Which would make sense, given that it's a Japanese company. I have absolutely no use for it, but others do. It just baffles me that people would be angry about the existence of a product that they'll never buy. Like, i can't grow my hair out anymore, but you won't see me writing angry comments on a beeswax review page.

@@latinochico Same both my PS3 Slim and SuperSlim both have fan issues.

People generally disliked it because it was a cheaper build than the slim, which was already a cheaper build than the fat. The super slim had like a squeaky cheap plastic, plus with the manual disc tray made it all have a super cheap feel to it. But the price cut wasn't as aggressive (or even non extistent) compared to the regular slim model. You have to remember that the PS3 60gb launch edition was extremely premium and the slim cut features, yes, but it justified it with a price cut of basically 50% compared to the 60gb launch model. But sure, the super slim had the fact that it was smaller and more energy efficient going for it.

Sony's decision to require a one-time internet connection to set up the PS5's optional disc drive is just that, a decision. They are not legally obligated by the DMCA to do this

It’s crazy how widespread this misconception is. 95% of all PS5 games can be played to completion from the disc, no internet required. It’s why I don’t invest in the xbox ecosystem. Smart delivery basically made almost no physical series X games.

i have a phat and slim but i emulate on pc,with shaders and 4k and mods and better load times its a no brainer,but i still collect real disks though.

I tried to emulate some games. But there was always a hassle to even run in native resolution for me. And no, its not my PC. Its a couple of years old now but is powerfull enough for emulation, with RTX 2070 super and i7 9800k. I played Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance 1 & 2. The first game worked mostly great with just a litle slowdown on occasions. But the game refused to register the right trigger og my Xbox control so I had to manually select health potions from the menu every time I had to heal. And with the 2nd game I encountered more slowdown and sound and music didn't work during boss fights. I only got a high pitched noise. And there was some artifacting. This was some years ago though and PCSX2 has gotten even better since then. And most of my problems except from the 1st game refusing to respond to the RT button on my controller could have been fixed by tweaking various settings. But I had already spent a good hr with the settings making Dark Alliance 1 work as well as it did to begin with. And I also played a little Kessen 3. But the artifacting from menus and loading screens that wouldn't dissapear in game annoyed me. And I just wanted to sit down and play a game. And not fix these issues. So I ended up with the PS2 solution I'm currently using. I just want to boot up and play the games and not having to spend time trying to make the games work properly like a retro PC game in modern Windows:P

This is unfathomably stupid. I mean, it's awesome, I would love it, but why would Sony release a console for games they don't print anymore? Why would they release a piracy machine? Corporations will NEVER properly preserve games. No point in hoping.

I'm talking about the company making the modern "retro" NT64 console which can play original cartridges. The one mentioned in the video. Imagine them making a similar PS2 machine. The ripping/installing games to HDD part would probably dip it's toes too deep into piracy territory trhough and is just wishfull thinking. But you are right. Corporations doesen't care to preserve their games. Thats why piracy and emulation is fantastic. I use a softmodded PS2 and have all my games on disc. But the idea that I can play these games on my computer without the need of functional original hardware or disc drive is reassuring. Thats also why I stopped caring about consoles after the 7th gen and pirate every PC game which require a different launcher than Steam or GOG. Or has DRM like Denuvo or similar trash software.

I totally agree but for those that say companies are moving in this direction, why not further discount the digital version (versus raising the price of it like on the PS5 slim) in order to get people to purchase digital over the disc drive version?

A console with no disc drive has no advantage over pc. It's just an encumbrance because your non physical games are stuck in sony/ms ecosystem and you don't own them. The whole point in a console is you buy a disc (which will always contain a playable version), put it in the drive and simply play. Yes they will be better with updates but PlayStation discs can be played without them. It's your game and if you look after the hardware it can be played years down the line. With the rise in smaller gaming PCs/handhelds you can simply have a box for the TV and there's more choice of places to buy games. Steam even say they'll remove DRM should they go out of business. Gog sells drm free games. Digital isn't the problem - DRM is.

Rich, the entirety of the Xbox console and all it's components requires a steady and constant internet connection. This one time verification is the exact same as the current PS5 with a disc drive. It's to avoid piracy. Ain't nobody loosing anything. Just like your PS5, you'll need to do the same with this disc add-on, one time only. It's not a big deal. It's not even different from what it is right now.

Exactly. The games are still playable from the disc, you just won't have access to any of the online patches, but the base games are still on the discs. Anybody that's saying that they're just a license or a coaster needs to put the disc into an offline PS5 and learn that the games are still on the discs.

You will but your console won't ever recognise the disc drive if you reset it after the servers go down. Should anything go wrong with the software which forces a console reset then the PlayStation 5 slim will simply become just a digital only version until it connects. If the servers are down then you're left with a brick since as far as I know factory reset consoles contain no games. There will also be no way to get any software into the console without having to connect to a server that's no longer switched on. Why would I reset? Well you are all set to play a game and you get an unexpected error. That's it.... all of your 50-60 discs might as well be thrown away.

I'd imagine it would be like 400 or something like that then have the full to charge 150 for a 1 TB drive and of course the 50 for the disc drive. @@daitaliantiger21 hello, I believe you can still create profiles on them? And can play games offline too! As well as online even. I still actually find some online COD and, Gears Of War 3 online games with other players one 360. People are also still playing Killzone online matches on PS3. Haven't got around to doing that on my PS3 recently. But there's youtube vids of people doing it. You can still connect online with 360 and PS3. And surely PS4 and Xbox One. Hope that helps

i buy disks so i can buy 2nd hand ones cheaper and then when i buy new games i can sell them and get my money back after i finish them,i spent 60 on dead island 2 and got 50 back,so i paid 10 quid for a AAA new game at the time games i cherish though i keep and get to collect and look at on my shelf so win win.

I mean, digital gamers still buy a ton of games. I've got over 1,500 on Steam and over 200 on my Switch lol. I do usually wait for better sales tho.

Looking at the box that started all of this off - No. You still need internet to pair the drive even though you bought it with it. I also suspect that everytime you do a factory reset you'll need to verify. Okay while the servers are up but when they are not it means you must buy a new console if you ever want to play your games again. All that trouble just for a minor software error.

Does the XBOX Series X (with the disk drive) needs internet connection to get the console and disk drive to recognize each other to work and you can't just simply plug and play a video game disc? I don't ever remember this or heard anyone mention this. Does the XBOX Series X require internet in order for the disc drive to work? What models of the XBOX Series X require internet connection in order for the disk drive to work? What are the model numbers that require the internet and which models do not require the internet?

Standard mini discs honestly don’t hold many songs at capacity, though, for their worth. Just saying.
