Nice REVIEW,a question here: When you are recording video with the Rx10 II And you want to take a photo from that moment,will this affect (stop recording) your clip?.

Great review. Can you tell me settings to do slow motion at 240 fps?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 9 лет назад
+Sharon McQuillan You have to dive into the menu to set the slow motion to 240fps and then turn the top dial to HFR (High Frame Rate) and then you can shoot. The Sony will automatically set your shutter to at least 240fps which is good. Your options will also be a bit limited in this mode.

Great review and as I have an RX10 which I love, I would like to get this camera too eventually. I might have missed this in the video, but has the battery life changed? I love the RX10, but its battery life leaves much to be desired.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 9 лет назад
Battery life is pretty much the same and it doesn't include a separate battery charger so you have to plug the camera in usb
@AroundTokyo
@AroundTokyo 9 лет назад
Thanks for letting me know! At this point in time, even though my RX10 is a great camera, having a long life battery would be great. With my old Sony a57 I could practically shoot the whole day.

Great review! I have a question. Can the video speed be changed on the fly from one speed to another or do you need to stop the video first to switch speeds?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 лет назад
+artistlight Thanks! No, the speeds cannot be changed without stopping recording. You can't switch from 24P to 240 without stopping. And actually to go above 120fps, you need to enter an entirely different mode so the switch takes a little while

Hi Dan, I enjoyed the review. I like the restricted zoom and constant f2.8 on this. But a question, the shutter, another reviewer said, in passing, this has a leaf shutter so we can sync the flash at high speeds, but when I asked him to confirm this he doesn't answer questions. You do, am I right about the shutter, can this sync at high speeds? Cheers Tony.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 лет назад
Hey, thanks. Yes, it should sync at speeds over 1/1000 sec though I have not personally tested this.

how long can you record in slow motion? is there a mode where u can press the capture button after watching the subject and get the last few seconds of it?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 лет назад
+Jacob Guerrero You can only record 2 seconds in the high frame rate mode of 240fps and higher. Of course 2 seconds even at 240fps is 10 seconds of footage when slowed to 24fps. No, there is no mode to just only record the last 2 seconds. In fact, just recording HFR is a pain and requires a special mode, requires you to go into a standby where no adjustments can be made, and then record a 2 second clip.
@capoeirask8

Ok. I had seen some images of the cameras screen with a "after trigger and before trigger" I assumed it was for my question. Thanks again

I wish I knew what Sonys problem is with putting touch screens on their cameras, the rx100 Lv and the A7r ll should also have touch screens. and fully articulating, but the rx10 ll is almost worth buying just for the slow motion video, I'm curious if in Sea world if there was anyone aloud in with a 5Dlll and 70/200 F2.8 lens? also other than the lens and record time, Is there any other difference between the rx10 ll and the rx100 lV? nice review
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 9 лет назад
+photographerjonathan They are very similar but you have more buttons and dials on the RX10. It's much easier to use if you shoot manually. On the RX10, you can use the lens dial to control aperture, the top thumb dial for shutter (that took getting used to) and the bottom thumb dial for ISO. Good luck making fast changes on the RX100...especially without a touch screen. Quality wise they are pretty much equal.

Hi Dan how does this camera stack up in terms of lens quality or lens blur if you like compared to compact system cameras is there any loss in picture quality right at the end of its zoom range or does it hold focus. I've looked at the Panasonic Lumix GX8 which I also found to be a fantastic camera but I haven't decided which way to lean either Superzoom Brigde or Mirrorless. I'm a novice photographer with a point & shoot Digital cam wanting to upgrade to a zoom camera what takes great photos reasonable to carry in a camera bag - case. any input would be greatly appreciated.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 лет назад
+Andrew Scrogham Hey. The nice thing about the RX10 is you get a constant f2.8 aperture throughout the entire zoom range which is crazy. Thus it tends to be a bit better than most other compacts which generally increase the aperture to around f5.6 which gets very little light and makes it tough to get thin depth of field. If you were going to pair the GX8 with some great f2.8 zooms, the GX8 may be a better option. But if you were going to throw a kit lens on the GX8, you would probably be better off with the RX10. That's the same for other mirrorless cameras. The RX10 comes with a really nice f2.8 zoom lens so unless you are going to get a larger sensor m43 (or something along those lines) with f2.8 glass, I would go with the RX10. The RX10 gives you all the manual options you could hope for as well so novice and even more pro end users will enjoy the control.

My Micro Four Thirds cameras shoot 4K at 24, 25 and 30p and 1080p up to 60p. Even 60p slows down quite nicely. Would I like to have 120p and 4K 60p? Sure, but those aren't requirements for me. This camera shoots lovely 240p video, which is just bonkers. That's REALLY slow. The 480p and 960p are just for stats because they're pretty rough. But do you really need anything slower than 240p?

Nice review.I have one doubt.Can we change focus while recording in hfr (240fps).I saw a review of RX 100iv,It said we have to set focus before hitting record and we cant change it while recording in hfr?Also what is the picture quality compared to A7S? I am from canon side of the planet.I recently decided to jump to Sony.A7S was my first choice as it met almost all my needs..in that slow motion is one.But later only i found that in sony A7S ,if you have to do 100fps/120fps ,it records in APS-C cropped mode and in 720p. Then I came to know about this camera , which has this amazing lens (for A7S I have to spend extra money for lens)And RX10ii can record 1080p 120 fps. Which one should i choose? A7S or RX10ii PS:I do lot of wedding,corporate,advertisement videos and video is my priority
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 9 лет назад
+joseph c mathew You can't change focus while recording 240 but you can at 120fps. You won't get quite the dynamic range and definitely not the low light performance of the A7s because of the smaller sensor. Basically, an A7s with f5.6 lenses would give you the same or better performance. That said, the RX10 II can record higher frame rates, 4k internal, and still has the video options I need so the quality is great. I still love the shallow depth of field of larger sensor cameras for weddings though and it will be tough to get that look with the 1" sensor of the RX10 but the quality is still great.

Considering the size of this camera, do you think they could have fit an APS-C sensor.
@davidlewis726
@davidlewis726 3 года назад
No, not without making significant changes to the lens. The reason the lens is a constant f2.8 and is as small as it is, is because the sensor is 1inch.

How do you compare this with GH4 on video recording? Which one is better? Thanks in advance.
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 9 лет назад
+sunnyspeed studio I'm going to go with the GH4 for that...it just has more controls and the touch screen that made shooting with the GH4 amazing. Plus I love the ability of using wide aperture prime lenses. The big difference is that the GH4 with a 24-70 & 70-200 f2.8 equivalent lens will cost way more and mean carrying 2 lenses so the big advantage to me on the RX10 II is the ability to have a great camera & lens for just over $1000 with a great zoom range.
@sunnyspeed-studio
@sunnyspeed-studio 9 лет назад
+Dan Watson Thank you. How about the video quality from these two cameras?
@danwatson5041
@danwatson5041 9 лет назад
+sunnyspeed studio Quality will be similar at low ISO though the RX10 II can go to 120fps at 1080p which is great. I tend to prefer the look and tone of the GH4 though and above 800ISO the GH4 wins. You do have full Slog2 as well on the RX10 while the GH4 only has log profiles if you purchase them for $100. That said, I don't use slog2 on the Sony cameras that often since they require me to shoot at high ISO and they take more work to recover than Canon log or Panasonics Cine D.

I"m looking for a camera to travel abroad with. I currently have Canon 5D Mark 2 and T4i and shoot mostly in manual mode. I am looking for the perfect light weight camera to carry with me that is versatile and that I don't need to change the lenses. I'm trying to keep the weight at a minim as I will be walking around 7-12 miles each day. Is this a good all around camera for low light and wide angle? Does it have a flash? If you don't think this camera is ideal for me do you have another suggestion that I can research? Thanks in advance!
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 лет назад
+Michelle Conaway This is probably one of the best cameras around for what you are looking to do. There really isn't a better option without going to an interchangeable lens camera system with at least 2 lenses and that would definitely cost more. The image quality is not quite as great as some of your great DSLR or mirrorless cameras, but it's definitely good enough to take great images and it does so with a much smaller size and weight.

In quality priority, it shoots 240fps at 1824 x 1026, 480fps at 1676 x 566, and 1,000fps at 1136 x 384. In shoot time priority it shoots 240fps at 1676 x 566, 480fps at 1136 x 384, and 1,000fps at 800 x 270.

Besides 4k video wouldn't you get better picture quality for A cheaper price from a sony a6000 with 55-210 lens? The 55-210 is a slow lens but the bigger sensor closes the gap right?
@learningcameras
@learningcameras 9 лет назад
+Ran Bar-Levi It would be pretty close. The bigger sensor of the a6000 will definitely close the gap of the slower lens when it comes to depth of field but when it comes to low light results, the RX10 would still have a slight advantage as the A6000 is not quite better by 2 stops. In theory image quality would be better on the A6000 even with the slower lens though that particular lens is not the sharpest in the world.

@learningcameras
@learningcameras 8 лет назад
+ACE LOLLY This should work. I don't think it will output clean video while recording but you could obviously play back to a screen with no issues. The big issues I could see is that you only have 2 seconds of record time at 240fps and up so you better hit the record at absolutely the right moment. Also, you can only play back the slow motion in camera when using HFR functions which is 240fps and up so no 60p and 120p slow motion playback in camera.
