Hi, as an owner of a RX10ii I agree with many of your points, however, for those interested, the camera DOES HAVE push AF. Maybe not via the shutter release button, but with the AEL button. When in manual focus mode, the AEL button activates continuous auto focus (including face tracking); when released, the focus goes back to manual. When in continuous focus mode, the AEL button will enable manual focus. I think it's a great camera for video. The battery life is a huge problem, you're right.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Oh. I oversaw that ^^. Thx for the hint / information. Though: The problem is that you cannot use a remote to make a push AF. With Panasonic or other cameras for example you just connect your standard stills-remote (wired or wireless) and you can always trigger push AF -> In video AND stills mode. That I really missed with the RX10 II. Especially if you shoot offset (on a shoulder rig, gimbal or if you just shoot yourself in front of the camera - Which was also not THAT nice because of the missing full articulation of the LCD ^^). I still miss the super slow motion though. You can try out and play around THAT much with this feature. Too bad, that it´s not built into more Sony cameras. (Would be great to have the option to change the glass if needed.) ^^

I have a Mk I version (2014) and even at 5 years old it has to be one of the most unique designs ever...the feature set is crazy good...I upgraded the codec to XAVC S and bought the intervalometer app ($12) off of the website...the video files look as good as ANY 4K I'v ever seen and are a little easier to deal with...battery life for stills gets me 350 shots and,at least here in the States,extra batts only cost about $7 each on Ebay...ALSO: there is a HUGE un-talked about feature for stills that NEVER gets mentioned and it is this: This camera has a leaf shutter system for stills...THAT means it will synch with flash even @ 1/2,000th of a second!!!...no farting around with trying to get expensive HSS trickery to work when shooting outside...no farting around with ND filters...just pick your fave aperture and shutter speed and it works...BRILLIANT!!!

if you don't research your camera before you buy, this is what happens. Other reviewers rave endlessly about the camera, especially for video work. Some going as far as saying it intercuts perfectly with more expensive fully professional cameras. It is still one of the best bridge cameras available if you know what to expect and how to use the many features. Still, good to see the other side of things sometimes.

I appreciate this kind of review. Most reviewers today post a link in the description, for you to click, in the event that you need to buy the camera. Which makes reviewers highlighting the pros, and slightly describing the cons.

Well, i bought this camera, and I can say, that: you can record videos while controlling the camera with your phone, that way you can record yourself. Of course it's not that easy as an articulating screen, but, it's possible. and for batteries, if you turn pre af off, and turn airplane mode on, then the battery will last up to 20% longer.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 6 лет назад
Hi there. Thx for the hint / tip. But theres a problem when using the phone - Its also coming with a huge delay. But that´s an issue with all phone connections to cameras. Its ok most of the time - But most of the time an external screen / monitor makes more sense (also gives you more features for exposure and focus control) ^^. According the battery runtime: Good to know. But I personally would still go for an external battery solution if possible (with a dummy battery) - Also keeps the heat of the battery away from the camera. I have now one dummy from wooden camera with D-TAP connection. Really nice solution with the FW50 using Sony cameras ^^.

If you shoot stills most of the time, then definitely check out the RX10 mk III - Better lens (with longer throw and better full open aperture sharpness). Its now also at around 900 to 1000 bucks (on the used market) - Which is about the pricing I bought the mk II at the time of this video. Too bad that the mk IV is that expensive - The RX10 series are still on my list (for slow motion and stills shooting) ^^.

It seems like there are good and bad ones out there on the market (and maybe the newer production revisions got a fix according the zoom helix problem). Good to hear that it´s working with your body (I also had another RX10 MK-II in my hands in a local shop a few months after this video and it had the same problem). About powering it over USB: Yes. It works. But you loose the USB control port (if you want to use an external zoom - On a supported gimbal or over a handgrip remote for example). There´s also the risk that you break it - like with those micro HDMI ports. Those fragile ports are a real curse ^^. I still plan to go for a RX10 III or IV in the future with an more robust FW50 battery dummy (as I would love the slow motion feature for lab shots - And the long zoom range is a real live saver there - For shots like at 14:30). Have fun shooting (!) LG

You'll find battery life is similar with all cameras apart from dslrs so that's a non issue, you have spares and they're not as expensive as you make out. I suggest you get the iii best lens on the market. You need a bigger sensor for low light. Mind you if you do your research first it would save buying the wrong camara in the first Place
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Well - I bought it primarily as B cam for stills and for the slow motion feature (to make a few lab shots and experiment shots from time to time). I knew about the battery issues and the missing touchscreen for example. But all the other small cons - and most of them are smaller ones - were quite limiting and they didn´t get mentioned in most reviews & tests. So I made this video to show the limitations to potential buyes. Btw.: The RX10 III is still on my list - Though I hope and I am still waiting for an upcoming (possible) RX10 Mk. IV with the touchscreen, the bigger buffer and on-sensor phase AF points like on the RX100 Mk. V. And: Hopefully it´s also coming with the new "type Z" batteries of the A9. About the battery life: Sure - Most cameras run only up to 2 hours in video mode. But most (non-sonies) are at least inbetween 1.5 and 2 hours (which means one battery switch less). And the GH4 even runs up to 4 hours (or even longer with the original batteries). Beside - Also the GH5 reaches inbetween 2 and 2.5 hours (just a little less in 4K60 mode). Thankfully Sony made a new battery now - Let´s hope it´s the new standard for upcoming models ^^. LG

I agree to a lot of points, but my camera is sharp af at 2.8, ofc its always sharper at 4 cuz 99% of the lenses willbe a little bit more soft wide open.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Well - It seems that the quality of the lenses also vary a little bit (of the RX10 II model). But it´s still very soft at F2.8 - which is a little bit misleading - As you need to use F4.0 for 4K to get acceptable results. Otherwise you can also shoot in the 1080P mode (the quality gain from 4K @ F2.8 is quite minimal). I am btw. not "giving up" on the RX10 series though. I still plan to get one again for slow motion shooting (as mentioned in the video -> for laboratory / testing shots for example). But I hope for a new RX10 Mk.IV model with the new phase AF points, a touchscreen and the twice as big buffer -> To be able to shoot at least 4 instead of only 2 seconds in quality priority mode (as it´s the case / possible with the new RX100 Mk.V) ^^

I took this camera and the Panasonic GX80 (I believe this is referred to as the GX85) on a trip to Sri Lanka, and the image on the GX80 was actually quite breathtaking especially in 4k. I bought some prime lenses for it and only went back to the Sony for slow motion which is also quite exceptional as there is a lot of light in that neck of the woods to play with.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Yep. The Panasonics are nice (even at 1080P). Though: Would love to see an RX10 Mark 4 with a bigger buffer. (As the slow motion is still quite nice for such a relatively cheap camera -> At least compared to other slow motion models. I am still missing the RX10 II according the slow motion features ...)
@nicklaytonUK
@nicklaytonUK 7 лет назад
The slow motion IS nice, but what I find totally frustrating is because the processor is totally tied up with Slo-mo, you can't change any settings while it's running. I know you mention this, but that is my biggest gripe with this camera. The slo mo equals the quality of the £3 K F700 (I think it is called that)
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Yes. That´s frustrating. I hope for a constant 240 FPS (1080P) mode with the RX10 Mark 4. So you at least doesn´t need to handle with the annoying "standby mode" while shooting slow motion. Would be enough for me (as you can get nice 480 FPS with interpolation - Which you also don´t see as it´s just a 50% slowdown in post). Plus: Audio would be possible with such a mode. About the standby mode: Well. It´s ok if you shoot in a controlled environment (a laboratory for example). But for outdoor / filmic shots it´s really annoying yes ...
@nicklaytonUK
@nicklaytonUK 7 лет назад
From the viewpoint of creating naturalistic images, the Panasonic GX80/85 beats it hands down, BUT, it doesn't have that natty little slo-mo and I ended up shooting so much with the Sony. My hope is the GH5 has some slo-mo capability.

What camera did you purchase to replace this camera? And, what camera do you most often use today? - - - - Thank you for this video.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Well - I am now using the GH5 as my main camera (and the good old GH2 as a backup / 2nd camera). So no direct replacement (in the same camera class). First I planned to go for a used RX10 Mk.III (as it´s coming with a WAY better lens). But I still hope / wait for an RX10 Mk.IV update - With the touchscreen, bigger buffer and the phase AF system of the RX100 Mk.V (which is now out for quite a while). PLUS: Maybe with the new bigger z-type batteries of the Alpha 9. Would be great (though also quite pricey for sure - IF it´s coming). I am still missing the slow-mo feature(s) for technical shots / lab shots like shown in the video. But the rest is more or less better with the GH5 now (or also better with the cheaper G80 / G81 / G85 from Panasonic) - Only the slow mo is way more limited. Btw.: If you want something for everyday use (to shoot stills) together with a very long focal range lens maybe check out a used Olympus E-M5 II or the new Olympus E-M10 III (with 4K internally) together with the Olympus 12-100mm F4 PRO lens. Quite pricey lens - But also really good optically (tested it already in a local shop). A HUGE step up optically from the RX10 II - And it´s offering the same focal range. Or go for the Panasonic G80 / G81 / G85 + 12-60 f3.5-5.6 (or 12-35 f2.8) + 100-300 Mk.II for super long shots. Offers also Dual-Is 2 (which is super stable also on long focal lengths). And the 100-300 Mk.II lens from Panasonic gives you even three times longer max. focal length (compared to the 12-100 lens from Olympus or the fixed lens of the RX10 Mk.II) ^^.

what gimbal works with this camera? i have a rx10 M2 & love it, just wish i could get smooth moving footage. i love dji's drones so i would like a ronin but i can't find enough evidence online to see if it supports this camera well.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek Год назад
Hmm. As the lens extending is heavily changing the balance (front/back wise), it could be hard for every gimbal to drive the RX10 II. Unless you keep the zoom of the lens in a smaller range / more or less constant at the wider angle for example. But the DJI gimbals should support the RX10 over the Sony Multi-Interface cable. At least the SC is officially supporting the RX10 III and IV for example (just google for "Rx10 III + Ronin-SC Compatibility result"). According to DJI taking photos, start/stop video, zooming and AF triggering should work. But no guarantee for those points with the RX10 II + other / newer models from DJI. I guess you have to try it out (just buy the gimbal somewhere, where you have the option to send it back if its not working out for you). Btw.: The older SC gimbal from DJI is ok-ish and super cheap nowadays - But I would personally go for the successors instead (RSC2 or the new RS3 Mini should also suffice / work) ^^.

It seems like there are good ones and bad ones on the market. Though: Still an important point to know (and to check if you check out the RX10 II in a local shop or if you buy one used from someone - And if you have the chance to test it out). The model I used here also was an like new "ex display" model. So it could also get more prominent over time / the more you use. So keep an eye on that - And if its really being the case, send it in before it´s out of warranty for an exchange of the lens helix / lens mechanics ^^. LG

I REALLY appreciate you highlighting this camera's limitations FIRST. My Sony A7 suffered from the same battery issue, and there's no way I'll buy another camera with a battery that only lasts one hour. I'm a pro who films off-road events, usually far out in the desert. My Canon 6D is old but its batteries last 3 hours each, so I can film a full ten-hour long race with just 3 batteries.

Thx for the feedback. About the battery: Yes. Its one of the biggest flaws / limitations (also for my type of use). The bad news today (as there was a camera release -> Check out sonyalpharumors for more information): Even the brand new RX10 Mk.IV which they released today is still coming with the old FW50 battery and not the new - WAY bigger - Z type model of the Alpha 9. Many of the other points are fixed now - But the battery is still the achilles heel. =/

Hi, I had this problem with "zoom bump" at certain focal length, though with other Sony product. After returning back to seller, they admitted it is a camera problem and repaired it. Since then no problem and zooming is smooth through all length. In normal condition, this "bump" visible in your video should not be present.

Hmm. Weird - I got the information from the support that it´s "within the standard parameters". Maybe they started to fix this issue later. But HUGE THX for the information / feedback. Good to know, that it´s "fixable". LG

Welcome. They changed the lens unit for a new one as stated in the repair report. I have absolutely no complaint now. As for what you write- I am not so shocked by answer they gave you as I think some sellers still think they can mess with their customers. @pracquet 6 лет назад
Sorry, I quickly got bored when you went on about battery life and had to stop watching. It appeared that your complaints are mainly to do with using this camera for video but it is a hybrid camera, and lot of people, including me, would buy a camera like this for photography rather than videography.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 6 лет назад
Yep. Many of my complaints are video oriented. But for example the too soft lens is also correlated towards taking stills (the lens is just too soft at F2.8). Beside: The AF in bad lighting conditions is also a problem when taking stills. If you really search for a good hybrid camera, then better check out the RX10 MK III or even the new MK IV. They are coming with a better (even longer) lens. And especially the MK III is quite cheap already (used) - Saw it already for about 800 to 900 bucks on the used market ^^.
@pracquet
@pracquet 6 лет назад
Thanks for your swift response. The constant 2.8 aperture appeals to me for stills, and I hear what you say about low light focusing but that can, sometimes, be worked around. The RX10iii has a longer lens but the aperture changes with the zoom, and unless you are taking photos of wildlife etc. the 200mm of the MK2 could be enough for most people.

Good review! So what are you buying? RX10 M3?
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Thought about it (for slow motion lab and testing shots - Loved the RX10 II for that purpose beside all the cons). But I still miss the touchscreen, WAY bigger buffer (2x slow motion time) and the phase AF which is now available in the new smaller Sony RX100 Mark V model. I am quite sure, the RX10 M4 is coming soon (same body as the RX10 M3 with the new internals). Let´s hope for the best ^^. You could also check out the new Panaosnic FZ2000 btw. - But it´s primarily interesting for video use (the lens isn´t the sharpest at longer focal lengths - so not perfect for stills). But GREAT video features - On par with the GH4 -> But with a long lens already built into it.
@Aviatorspot
@Aviatorspot 7 лет назад
;m thinking of getting the Sony M4 for its 1" sensor, 600m lenz, 960 FPS for video and many features. But its very expensive compare to Panasonic FZ1000 or FZ2500. If the new Sony M4 is coming, I wish for a longer zoom, constant F/2.8 zoom and more pro features,etc.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
If you need something "good" now (for stills / pictures) - Go for the FZ1000. It´s a great performer for the price. Especially, if you get it quite cheap in used condition. Who knows when the RX10 M4 is REALLY coming (and at which price). I would have gone for the RX10 M3 a few months ago (if it wasn´t THAT expensive here in Europe). But I am with you there - Sony prices are a mess since the latest camera iterations ...

Yes, I have been looking into the FZ1000 or may be FZ2500 also. I need a 1" sensor cam for low light video filming.
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Hmm. 1" and low light is still a little bit problematic. Still too less sensitivity / too small sensor size. Maybe check out the new Panasonic G80/81/85 (or the older G7/G70) together with fast primes. They are both at least one step above the 1" models. And offer a lens bajonett. For example the 12-35mm F2.8 + 42.5mm F1.7 (or the 45mm 1.8 if you go for the stabilised G80/81/85) is a good set to start with. Or do you need the long focal lengths (and a super universal lens) all the time? There´s also the new (stabilised) Olympus 12-100mm F4 - Super expensive. But with a cheap G7/G70 body still around the price of the RX10 M3 ^^. And it´s a 24-200mm (full frame) equivalent lens with great optical performance and constant aperture ^^.

Would you say that this camera is worth the money for filmmaking? Or would something like a Canon T6i be a better buy?
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Well - It´s hard to say that. Its really nice for slow motion shots (at least if two seconds are enough in quality priority - AND if you have the chance to pre-focus everything). Thats great for laboratory / research stuff - But for all-in-all "everyday" work I wouldn´t go for it to be honest. It has WAY too short battery life, the wobbling and at F2.8 unsharp zoom lens annoys over time (especially in 4K which is quite useless at F2.8) and overall it´s also a little bit overpriced in my opinion - At least if you buy it new. The T6i is ok. Though I would consider the T6s (with better AF and top LCD) or even the 80D (with dual pixel AF) instead. The 80D is better in MANY aspects (as it´s in a higher class than the T6i and T6s). But important is the AF (which is really good - And even noticeably better than on the T6s). AF wise 80D better than T6s - And the T6s is better than the T6i (if that´s important for you). If you want something which is ok AF wise (somewhere around T6i / T6s performance) - And if you´re ok with the smaller / lighter built of micro 4/3, then I would also check out the Panasonic G85 / G80 / G81. It´s coming with the best of the best from Panasonic (and offers VERY VERY good 4K video). Has body internal stabilisation, a new super silent mechanical shutter (and silent shutter til 1/32000), they removed the optical low pass filter (so even sharper than the older ones) and it´s close to be on par up to even better than the Canon APS-C sensors. ^^ If you´re interested: You can actually can get it REALLY cheap, if you buy it over the UK (due to the low pound exchange rate - And they offer actually a free batterygrip til the 31. of October.) The nice point is -> It´s worth at least 200 up to 250€ if you resell it - Or you can use it / keep it for free ^^. Check out UKDIGITAL for example - They also send to whole Europe (and you can also pay bank wired if you ask for it - In Euros - So no exchange rate). Great support (with a reply in a few hours to one day max). Also a colleague bougt a G70 + 12-60mm kit there about two weeks ago. Just check out the G80M kit (so the G80 + 12-60mm). You get: The G80, the 12-60mm, a free 64GB card + 5 years warranty from UK DIGITAL and the free battery grip -> If you apply for the free giveaway after a certain time after purchase - 28 days if I remember right. It´s price actually around 900€ (all together). If you sell the grip you get it for 700 to 650€ (and you have everything to start - Incl. a good lens and a 64GB SD card ^^. Just mentioning it (as it´s really a good deal actually). If you want better AF -> Then go for a used 80D with the 18-135mm Nano USM or the 18-55mm (if you cannot afford the 18-135mm kit at the time). Though: Only with the Nano USM 18-135mm you get the fine adjustable AF. With the 18-55mm STM and the other STM lenses you get only one AF speed (not three or four like with the 18-135mm Nano USM). Hope that helps ^^. (Sorry for the long text ...) LG

So what camera in this price range do you suggest if not this one ??
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Well - Interchangeable lens cameras: Panasonic G7 or G80 - With the G80 as a more universal performer. But the G7 is also REALLY good - Especially for video (and DIRT CHEAP together with the 12-60mm lens). Too bad that the cashbacks ran out lately - It way even cheaper over christmas. =/ Btw.: If price wise possible -> The G80 is better according pictures (it has the new shutter and no low-pass filter). AND it´s also coming with body internal stabilisation - Also REALLY nice (as then all lenses are stabilised). You can for example pair it with the excellent Olympus 1.8 fixed primes and it´s still stabilised (for video- AND picture-taking). And you can also use the non stabilised zooms (from Olympus and Tamron for example). For video only you can also check out the GH4. Ingenious features (and extremely good battery life). Though it´s not really good according stills. More of a "video only" camera. Also misses the body-internal stabiliser. Non-Lens-Interchangeable I would check out the new Panasonic FZ2000. Quite nice video features too (it´s like a small GH4). And the pictures are also really good for a 1" camera. (PLUS: Fully articulating touchscreen - Really nice compared to the RX10 non-touchscreen non-fully-articulating screen.) Or you can wait for the upcoming Sony RX10 IV. Sure - The RX10 III is also a nice camera. At least they changed the lens to a WAY better one - This was the achilles heel of the RX10 Mk.II But they missed out the touchscreen again (on the Mk.III). So it´s better to wait for the upgrade (it should come soon). The RX10 IV should feature a touchscreen then (like the RX100 V). And it should also get the new sensor. (Which is quite a big step -> As it´s featuring phase-AF points - Which is adding ALOT of speed to the AF system. AND: The RX100 V also features a way bigger buffer - For stills and the slow-motion feature. Would also be nice to have.) Though: Price wise the RX10 III is already more expensive than the RX10 II. So I don´t know, if it´s really an option for you ... If you need a camera NOW, then I would go for the G80 or the FZ2000. I am using the G80 by myself actually - Quite nice camera ^^.

So glad I found this information. I was not able to decide between RX10 II / FZ1000 as that constant f2.8 sounded great. But as it gives soft images I no longer have any reason to want the RX10 II (has shorter zoom range and for me much worse handling than FZ1000).

AustrianGeek thanks, it was a great video. I'm seeing this in 2018, and considering RX10 M3, as I'm on a budget. I'm impressed with Sony's AF system, esp the eye AF. Do you this it's a right decision today? Comparing to cheap used full frame bodies or fz 1000? Please recommend. BTW I'm 75% into photography and 25% into video (slog). Also I own Nikon D750 with kit lens and love full frame cameras. I'm looking for a simple, yet powerful travel camera. Highly appreciate your guidance...

Hi there. Sorry for my delayed reply - There is a lot to do lately ^^. About the RX10 Mark III / M3: Also a nice camera. Its coming with the new longer lens which is great for taking stills on a daily basis. Altough you loose the ND filter - So not that great to shoot video anymore (but its ok / not that of a problem overall - You can still screw on a vari ND or a normal ND filter in front). AND compared to the Mark II / M2: As the M2 lens is also quite soft wide open at F2.8 - So it´s also not that of a problem, that the M3 lens is a little bit slower (aperture wise) - You need to stop down the M2 lens to F4.0 anyways in comparison to get good sharpness. ^^ About the eye AF: Keep in mind, that the eye AF is not the same on the RX10 II and RX10 III as on the new RX10 IV (as this model is now coming with the on sensor Phase AF points). The RX10 M2 and M3 eye AF works as it should under good lighting and as long as the subject isn´t moving that fast - But for moving subjects it´s still limited on the older models (and the contrast AF system of the M2 and M3 is struggling more under bad lighting than on the newer sensor of the RX10 IV). So for portrait and not that fast action with good lighting - Go for it (the RX10 M3). If you plan to shoot also alot of sports or if you shoot alot under bad lighting, then maybe save your money for a used RX10 M4. Badly the RX10 M4 is REALLY expensive for a bridge camera. And actually Sony also offers a cashback on the RX10 M3 (and M2) - At least here in Europe. So really think about your needs ^^. The RX10 M3 is better than the FZ1000 overall. I also LOVE the slow motion (as mentioned in the video) to play around - Also makes fun with kids (as you normaly don´t have the option to shoot super slow motion at home ^^). Is it really replacing a DSLR? No. Not really. Its really a compromise features / handling wise. And I would also recommend to try it out / borrow it for a few hours or so (to see if it´s ok for you handling wise - The M3 for example). There is still a huge speed difference inbetween a DSLR and the RX10 M3 for example - The M4 is faster - But also not as fast. And it also takes its time to unfold the lens (if the camera is switched off). So not a grab and shoot instantly camera. Keep that in your backhead too. So what should you do - Good question. It´s kind of your decision. But I am still glancing on the RX10 IV (maybe a used one in the future) as I would LOVE to have the on sensor Phase AF, the bigger slow motion buffer and the built in thouchscreen (missed that extremely on the RX10 M2 and I would also miss it on the M3). Hope that helps. LG

About the A6500: Also coming with some cashback deals actually. Great little camera (also with a few limits). But for sure faster reacting and WAY more leaning towards the DSLR performance than the RX10 M3 and also the RX10 M4. Paired with the 18-105 F4 or the new 18-135mm kit zoom (APS-C E-Mount) also a great tool. But check the cashback for your country (actually only the UK got great rebates on the A6500 - Badly). ^^

AustrianGeek Thanks a ton, for taking time to provide a detailed explanation and your view. This was really helpful. I agree with you, RX10 M4 is quite costly being a bridge camera - though it offers several exceptional features. I explored a6500 as an option for the travel camera choice. But somehow, I was not impressed with the form factor of the body. Now I am exploring the Fuji X-T2 system :) and I am thoroughly confused :). The reason I am looking for an alternate camera, is for a daily use of the gear (which I am not doing with my D750, with huge lens set up). Thanks for your suggestions!
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 6 лет назад
Yeah. The A6000 / 6300 / 6500 are not really great form factor wise. Especially if you use bigger lenses on them. They also have other limitations (like overheating in video mode - Especially the A6000 and A6300 - And the bad battery runtime - All three. A6000 / A6300 / A6500). PLUS: Severe rolling shutter (which is ok on the A6500 though - The internal stabilise is "hiding" that limitation a little bit). About the Fujis: GREAT cameras. Check them out yes. But I warn you - It could be, that you get rid of your Nikon stuff. Even though it´s just APS-C, they offer GREAT features and image quality. I had the X-E2 + 18-55mm F2.8-4.0 for quite a while - And it´s making fun to shoot with the Fujis. Too bad, that in the past they weren´t that good video features wise. But since the X-T2, X-E3 and the brand new X-H1 they deliver great performance. And if you just need a lens to begin with - Then the 18-55mm F2.8-4.0 is a GREAT kit lens option. One of the best out there on the market (and no comparison to the Panasonic and Olympus Kit lenses - At least the cheaper ones) ^^. So have fun "checking out" Fuji. LG

this camera is not for pro what can you expect on a bridge camera,if you want a pro camera buy a super expensive camera/video camera that has a interchangeable lens as simple as that
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 8 лет назад
Well - It´s a bridge camera priced at around 1200 bucks actually (1400 here in europe a few weeks ago). And at this price point you have to compare it to the GH4 for example (which you can easily get at such a price point with a good lens). PLUS: Most cons and limitations mentioned are also important for hobby shooters. Battery runtime, unsharp lens, wobbly zoom, no touchscreen -> Which is also important to touch & shoot pictures for example which is working with many other alternatives and so on. And as mentioned at the end of the video: It´s a good camera. But only, if the limitations are ok for you (and there are many of them). ^^

The RX10ii sells for $1400 in Canada and it's still readily available. This is not what I would call an inexpensive camera. It's also way too much money for a camera that has this many limitations. The Panasonic FZ1000 and the latest iteration of their bridge camera, the FZ2500 offer better performance for the same kind of money or less. The shorter battery life and lack of a touchscreen are things I could live with. An unsharp lens and wobbly zoom are things I can't live with and I don't think any photographer, amateur or otherwise, should find this kind of performance in the lens to be acceptable. For this kind of money, or a little bit more, I could buy a dedicated 4K-capable video camera that would probably take better stills if needed.

@AustrianGeek

Officially yes - But I wouldn´t really trust it according the weather sealing. There are multiple reports of defect cameras (by using it just in light rain or snow for a few seconds). Btw.: Sony Cameras are all in all not THAT nicely sealed. It´s maybe better to choose another model if you need weather sealing ...

soooo.2019..im looking rx10 II vs FZ2000/2500...specifically due to the ND filter included.. what would be your opinion.. btw ..they are the same price atm.. cheers..
@AustrianGeek
@AustrianGeek 5 лет назад
Hmm. Tough choice. Both are quite nice. But in general the FZ2000/2500 is better for video oriented shooting (as it offers unlimited time recording from scratch on / without hacking, 10bit 4:2:2 over HDMI, more steps on the ND filter and the smoother zoom (which isn´t extending - The lens is always fully extended - Don´t know if thats a problem for you ^^). So in general I would choose it over the RX10 Mark II as I am filming more than shooting stills (an also because the zoom is smoother and not wobbly like on my RX10 Mark II for example). According pictures its a little bit of a different story. Maybe not FZ2000/2500 vs. the RX10 II maybe (they are both not perfect ^^) - More FZ2000/2500 vs. the RX10 III for example (which also gets cheaper and cheaper over the last few months / the last year). Sure - No ND filter anymore. But more zoom range and a way better lens design. Both (RX10 II and III) also offer faster apertures - Not much - But still the case. The RX10 III also offers a longer zoom range (the II on the other hand a WAY faster aperture). Altough: The RX10 II is quite soft wide open. Therefor not a really "useful" pro (as you need to use it at F4 anyways to get good results). Long story short: More video oriented - Would go for the FZ2000/2500. More stills oriented - OR if you need the super slow motion feature desperately (like shown in the video for lab shots or so), then I would choose the RX10 III (or RX10 IV if you can afford it / can find it somewhere cheap). The RX10 II I wouldn´t go for at all anymore - Makes no sense in my opinion ^^. Hope that helps. LG

@AustrianGeek 5 лет назад
@@sisbroshou3786 Oh. Ok. Hmm. Don´t oversee, that the AF in those cameras (all three - FZ2000/2500, RX10 II and RX10 III) is only contrast based - So its not "perfect" anyways. You would need to go for the RX10 IV instead to get phase AF + contrast AF hybrid focusing (the big plus of the RX10 mark IV). As mentioned in the video, also my RX10 II struggled quite severely indoors / within darker conditions. So you have now kind of two ways: Go for the RX10 IV (used prices are sadly still quite expensive) or just go for a system camera instead (with a proper lens). Sony A6400 + 18-105mm F4 or the Fuji X-T30 with the 18-55 2.8-4.0 for example. Sure - You can also go with the FZ2000/2500 or the cheaper RX10 III for example - But then keep in your backhead, that the focus systems are just noch perfect (and you need enough available light that the AF systems work properly). Hmm. That´s bad - It seems like a broken / loose plug. Maybe contact Sony about a repair. Or (if Sony isn´t cooperative) ask at a few official (or unofficial) Sony repair-centers how much a repair would cost. Otherwise stick with a small external recorder (Zoom H1, Olympus LS3 or so) and sync the audio in post. With the actual problems the risk is just too high that you get unusable audio ...
@GivesAMinute

AustrianGeek Totally agree with you about not getting good audio. Will tweet Sony and see how I go. Probably won't bother with a zoom or equivalent as it's not really practical while vlogging.

@AustrianGeek 7 лет назад
Nope. But it has alot of small limitations (which add up). If you can afford it - Got for the RX10 Mark III. Or wait til the RX10 Mark IV (mk.4) is out. It should come with a touchscreen, phase AF and the bigger buffer (which is also the case according the RX100 Mk). Maybe even the bigger battery (which is also in use with the new Sony A9). Sony licensed already new cameras according their wireless modules - Hopefully the RX10 IV is one of them ^^. Just keep "sonyalpharumors" in sight (or other camera news sites).

@@ivavon7122 I would try to go for the Sony A6600 if you can get it used / cheap (its my actual main camera beside a few old GH2 bodies ^^). The 6600 is kind of THE most long lasting camera with good autofocus (its reaching over 3.5h of 4K recording with one charge / no external power) - Plus: Its also super heat stable (beside the Panasonics and the brand new Sony A7s III one of the few in the market). The G85 is also "ok" / usable. But I would go for a used GH5 instead (better built quality, better grip, better video quality, better battery runtime, internal 4K60, full size HDMI port, no time limit internationally / where-ever you buy it etc.). Actually (for Video) I would go Sony A6600 over Panasonic GH5 over Panasonic G90/91/95 if you want something cheaper (I saw the G90/G91/G95 already for around 550 to 600 bucks new lately - I think it was amazon France - Prices are jumping quite alot on Amazon lately ^^).
