Here's disassembly and assembly of my broken Sony RX100M4. This is NOT A HOWTO GUIDE, I just merely want to document the disassembly process since my camera is broke anyways. This video should help someone out there in the future since there are no disassembly videos of this camera yet (as of publishing this video).
This video is LONG, I didn't edit it because I just wanted to put this out there in case it helps someone but I guess it could be entertaining to watch me mess up lol.

Bought the Sony RX100 IV brand new in the box, pulled it out, getting ready to put the strap on and sneezed real hard and it flipped out of my hand onto the carpet and popped the the one spot on the bottom without a screw out of it's tab spot. Wasn't sure how to fix it. Watched your video (@22:46) to remove the bottom screws, pulled the bottom up enough to drop the tab back in, screwed back together and good as new. HUGE thumbs up. THANK YOU High On Android!

My camera was already broken so I didn't mind the fact that this video wasn't a "how to repair" the camera. My favorite parts are 8:40, 13:35, 43:54, and 46:28.

How is the capacitor not fully discharged with one touch and no battery tho?

Thanks for posting...My mark II had a spot, and this video was helpful in disassembling, and reassembling my camera...spot's gone, and it was a success.

When removing the screws for the case, mind the location of each screw. There are two different lengths, with the 'top' screws just a bit shorter then the 'side' screws. If your flash will not pop-up when you are done reassembling, you have installed the longer screw into a shorter screw location,....., the screw is blocking the flash release mechanism ....

The "Mystery Cable" plugs straight in underneath the power button. There is no lock on it, just pushes in, very hard to get up in there and get it on. It is the one ribbon that came loose when I dropped mine bricking the camera until I plugged it back in and reassembled. I had the circuit boards out before I saw it had just barely disconnected. Probably would not have required as much disassembly had I noticed it earlier.

I bought a RX100M5 on eBay. Its display doesn't flip in the selfie mode. Looks like the magnet on the corner which activates the magnetic switch is missing. If I place a magnet under the display, the LCD is inverted. How can that be fixed. Can I open the LCD and insert a magnet there?

I just did this to replace the lens on my RX100 M5. Very similar but less connectors on the motherboard... Got zapped about 5 times in the process. I can't find a way to securely connect flash wire without getting zapped over and over again. In the result my flash is not working. I'm working up courage to try again lol

I’m so glad you say “it’s not a disassembly videos tutorial”, because it’s not.cables are not spare parts, screws are different lengths and need to keep track wear they come from so they go back in the same whole. Capacitor in cameras can kill you, even a 3.1MP cannon elf, or an old film Kodak camera. Any camera with a built in flash. Get a multimeter with a LowZ mode to use so you can discharge that cal. Shorting caps work, but you also risk that voltage shooting into another board by shorting it. Please be carful with high powered capacitors. I don’t need the LCD, but mine is pretty scratched up. Bought a used one that was a demo unit. Still works great, can’t see the scratched when it’s on. But for aesthetics I’ll buy your LCD if you didn’t tear that ribbon cable? Then I can do a video on replacing the V (m5) LCD. The sad part is the LCD works, it’s just the plastic cover. For some reason they removed the screen protector that it came with.

SO you seem to know what you're talking about... so I have a question. Any idea how to remove the focus ring itself from an rx100 iii? I can't find instructions anywhere and mine is malfunctioning. i can find replacement parts but no instructions on how to remove or swap them

Wow! Let this be a cautionary tale for anyone that may want to "fix" an even barely-functional Sony RX100 Mark anything. My RX100 MII has a bit of dirt on the sensor. I thought about cleaning it, which led me to this video. I've decided Photoshopping each and every image where the dust is visible is way easier than opening the Sony. The agonizing 3-4 minutes where the stubborn lens/sensor assembly steadfastly resists extrication is my favorite part.

A lot of people who will try doing this are gonna screw up. And most likely get zapped by that capacitor too.

Well... you aren't buying air with these camera's. I got a cybershot from 2013, (Cyber-shot DSC-HX50V), and upgraded to a RX100 Vii last week, but man, it's the same size and sooo much heavier (now I understand why). Props to Sony to putting all of this engineering in, but what a nightmare to work on it seems!

That is actually the capacitor for the flash. The repair manual recommends wrapping it up with insulation tape as it can't be discharged unless one makes a discharger which is too much fuss.

I tried this instruction video, and now I need to watch: "How to buy another Sony Rx100v!" Or even "How to set up a GoFundMe to buy another camera for the one you tried to fix." I was screwed (pun intended) when I bought that microscopic screwdriver set! I felt like a toddler trying to eat rice with chopsticks. The caption on this video should read, "This is a not-for-dummy video, only geniuses allowed to play." Or "Discover how to amaze by magically making $900 disappear with a microscopic screwdriver!" Back to the drawing board, maybe take on that 3rd job to pay for this disaster or ransack my kids college fund... although a second mortgage seems most likely.

Thanks for your helpful video. I think I have the problem of the Top Cover User Control Board ( RL-1038 ). Could you demonstrate how to replace that board? Thank you very much.

Dude, discharge the flash capacitor by shorting out the two pins on the bottom of the camera (below viewfinder, where your left hand was touching). When you peel back sticky protective cover, you'll see a radial capacitor for the flash. It's quite large. BTW, how does 330v feel? LOL
@VoltageLP

weeeves how the hell did that tiny cap still have charge after discharging twice on his fingers

I electrocuted myself in the same way... it hurt A LOT. I yelled involuntarily. It is a pretty big capacitor.
@GadgetReviewVideos
@GadgetReviewVideos 6 лет назад
VoltageLP Because the body has a high resistance and it never discharged completely. Each time he got shocked was probably a little less, but it still had power left over after each shock. Any camera flash capacitor holds a lot of power at a high voltage.

hi, my sensor needs cleaning due to dust etc working its way in, im confident i can do this on my own, but it looks like the sensor removal panel is accessible from around 10mins into the dissassebly?? before you remove the large circuitboard?? am i correct in thinking that??
