Sony's Helldivers 2 Drama Is Disappointing... 

Steam just delisted 177 locations from the storefront so yea SONY basically just knowingly forced Arrowhead to rug pull 2/3rds of the globe yea let that sink in . Also, people should understand that notorious Jeff only post on a single channel.

Here's the thing. If they do it literally every company will start doing this.

Some one was able to get a refund with almost 100 hours, stating that they do not agree with Sony's decision. So I think if players state they are unable to access the game because of their country, Steam might actually start giving refunds.

It’s almost like we can’t have a perfect game without the big publishers or the companies being like “oh this game is thriving and people are having fun? Not on my watch!”

My theory is that Sony is only forcing people who don't own a PS5 to create a PSN account through Helldivers 2 is because they know they're gonna lose money and are looking for whatever disgusting tactic to use to claim it back 😭

Also Sony get's hacked like every other day. Why would we(pc community) would trust linking out Steam accounts with Sony.

People also skip the part where just before this issue, sony announced theyre going to monitor voice chats and messages to apply some "safety" bs. That means they wanted to extend their reach along with padding their psn numbers.

Sony claims it's for security and safety reasons yet lacks the self awareness to realise PSN gets taken down by 12 year old hackers on a monthly basis.

btw, sony will ban you if you use a vpn just to try and play the game. so it's like a contradiction/double edged sword and both edges are pointed at sony's neck.

I feel like requiring online connection for SINGLEPLAYER games is outright too far and ridiculous on its own, let alone shutting out a combined hundreds of millions suddenly out of nowhere and claim it's for the better

EVERY new game I’ve bought in the last 5 years has died a few months after launch due to corporate types and shitfuckery and I’m so done with it. No new money coming from me anymore.

Yeah Reddit has been on fire with this recently and I don't blame them, both sides are arguing about it. The idea of it being just to please shareholders isn't one I've seen or thought of, but its a very likely reason.

And Ghost of Tsushima will require a PSN account for multiplayer on PC. Only a matter of time until it requires it for singleplayer too.

My theory is that with people cancelling their subscription to PSN because of the Stella Blade stuff, Sony might think this will bolster their numbers back up.

It’s easy to tell it’s for money. Just like how they tried to not have crossplay on PlayStation and thought if you wanted to play with PlayStation players then get a PlayStation and it was controversial and forced to implement crossplay

I am just gonna say this, it sucks that Sony is putting their foot down the way they did but the CEO of Arrowhead shot themselves in the foot as well since when you make a game you MUST be careful who you decide to have publish your game if you have given the publisher the rights to your game it sucks... But really that is your fault, its like giving your car knowing that they have a horrible record of driving cars... Both are to blame for different things, I hope Arrowhead in future try to be more independent

EU has consumer protection. Forcing customers to make an account that will collect data after the fact is a pretty easy way for every EU person to request a refund and if steam denies it they get to deal with consumer protection. Which they wont, they’ll just charge sony for the refunds. Even worse if sou are in a country that cant actually make an account.

Dang it’s a shame cause I was planning to get Helldivers 2 when my exams were over.

Sony is a publicly traded company on the NYSE at index: SONY. Also, Sony has been so sketchy...1st the Stellar Blade bait and switch, now the Helldivers 2 bait and switch... Also, Helldivers 2 account setup had a SKIP BUTTON; this is extremely misleading!!! I thought PC players were the majority of the global players. Boycott all Sony products and productions. Spooderman was an over rated superhero anyways.

Maybe people would use launchers other than Steam more if those launchers were actually good. I thought that's how the free market is supposed to work right? Best product at the lowest price wins. Of course the people who don't know how to make a good product disagree about that.

The biggest problem is that it's a bait and switch. If a sony account was required from the very start, no one would care because those that don't want to create one wouldn't have bought the game in the first place. It's the fact that after paid money for the game, after you learned to enjoy it, did sony pulled a Darth Vader and altered the deal. Also, brain dead response from their community mangers made things worse.

I want Sonny to make a statement because right now it looks like they just threw arrow head under the bus as soon as they made their announcements and dipped. No follow up or nothing, just letting arrow head take the brunt after basocally stepping in, napalming the PC community ans just staying radio silent to maybe squeeze a bit more PSN accounts for those EVER oncreasing shareholder stocks. Its disgusting, Helldivers 2 is my game of the year, bugs and all, and to see this come from the big guys up top is disheartening for the devs who've worked so hard to build up the community we have so far. One thing that will also be affected is our ability to tackle MAJOR ORDERS as effectively as we have so far, but thats way less important

It sucks that the developers will get a good chunk of the consequences for Sony's actions. They made a good game and deserve the money they got for it, unfortunately Sony just couldn't sit and let it make money they just had to mess it up somehow.

Sony has caused so many problems in gaming, it's not funny. From denying some games cross progression to now this that will cut a significant amount of the helldivers playerbase. They are just a difficult company to deal with

Look at how HD2 community was able to come together in just 1 week. Meanwhile the CS2 (c)ucks still can't organise over a half a year now to pressure Valve.

The Devs are practically watching there game burn within 72 hours just because sony practically forced them to do it as of now and are still getting hate when it wasn't there decision, Yes they did sign the contract with sony. Currently as of 9:19pm EST May 4th, I created a new steam account to verify a rumor I heard on reddit. I set my Country to Egypt and turned on my VPN for an Egypt server. I went to the Helldivers page and COULD NOT find a way to purchase the game. Please somebody tell me I am in a fever dream and that this is all just a figment of my imagination. I WANT to be wrong.

It’s not just PSN accounts not being available in other countries, it’s also Sony’s subpar security. Sony’s been hacked multiple times and this would also put your Steam account at risk as well.

According to Britannica, there are 196 (197 counting Hong Kong) countries globally. PSN appears to be available in about 70 of them. They ripped from almost 2/3rds of the countries on the planet the ability to play a game that they were able to play before the PSN enforcement.

Every time I think "I'll love to maybe buy a PlayStation 5." Then I have to remind myself they always get hacked, false promises and etc etc. I'll just stick to PC and plan on getting a Gaming PC.

I hope this motivates other gaming studios to not work with Sony and just work with some other publisher.

Something most people don’t talk about is that this was mandatory from the start, it was just temporarily made optional due to server issues. Though I do have to say, Arrowhead are at fault for not adequately communicating with the newer players who didn’t know (they only had one pop-up & it wasn’t very clear on Steam), and Sony & Steam are at fault for selling in regions they weren’t supposed to.

You can't grant immunity to those in the countries where they can't create a PSN account, and then claim the whole reason for the account is "Security" and "Able to ban the bad players." It's either everyone has the PSN ID, or get rid of the ID altogether. To quote from The Day The Earth Stood Still, "There must be security for all, or no one is secure."

Sad thing is, just like the Warzone situation, this might not be resolve. Knowing AAA corporations and their loyalists, as long as we don't know what move we must do, the chances of winning is negative.

Everyone forgets the Sony BMG CD copy protection rootkit scandal was a scandal focused on the implementation of copy protection measures on your PC to track those copying music they bought leaving security holes that needed to patch. At this point, I'm done playing games. The activists have been in charge for too long and it's getting worse. Like many, I'm doing other things like electronics and 3D printing. I've been gaming since 1975 and XBOX, Playstation, PC GPU makers, Ninetendo, gaming media, award shows... They whole industry is just a money grab and I'm not paying one more cent. FTC is sleeping allowing the abuse because we're just gamers.

As many times as the Sony servers have been hacked and they didn't tell people until long after the damages were done makes me astonished people even buy their consoles in the first place. As for the devs, they sold out to Sony and are just as complacent.

I think one of the reasons theyre doing this is because more people canceled their accounts due to the Stellar Blade thing than they thought would.

Man I really do feel physical copies or pirating is about to really become a main topic as a savior, which is probably overselling it but looking a few years ahead and seeing if gaming companies keep doing the same thing like this....

if they just required my email and phone i wouldn't care but a PSN account requires my address, my zip code , a face scan and my id for a company that is know for having leaks. also over 100 countries player bases will be forced out of their game if they were originally gonna need a PSN account why did they sell it in those country.

Even better would have been to keep it optional but if you link accounts you get crossplay access and some cosmetic gear along with maybe some super credits

if it was just for the crossplay feature then the backlash wouldn't be that severe, everyone could still play and those with PS friends would just make an account and the few that live in areas that can't create one to play with PS friends would be upset but they can still at least play the game.

You also can't use a VPN to make a PSN account in another country because you have to pay in that countries designated currency.

If the games popular enough to keep itself up…but then again the only way they make money is from sales so I guess that makes sense. I know people don’t like in game purchases if it somehow affects gameplay but why not cosmetic. I think that’s a great way for a company to make money without worrying about sales.
