This TV isn't perfect, but it looks good. What makes me happy is that mLEDs are becoming widespread. Panasonic already has its own mLED technology and it is Quantum Dot.
I know last year the 95k 65,75 and 85 all had different panels,…..are all 3 sized of this model panels the same?,….was looking into getting the 75inch model,…thanks in advance, any opinion is helpful,…I’m not rich and work very hard for my money so I like to do tons of research before a major purchase.
It's amazing to me why no one questions why Hollywood makes so many movies that are dark. Hollywood didn't do this years ago. It's like they are in a partnership to make dark movies, so people will be coerced to buy better tvs that can handle all the dark scenes. I personally do not enjoy movies that are dark, and I have an oled. It's just not necessary to me. Even with an oled it's distracting to the story.
@@thegamewin100 it's not as dark as some movies are today. I never had any issues seeing everything in this movie! I have it in my collection. Zero problems with it back in the day on a crt TV and zero problems with a lcd or led TV. What I'm talking about is recent films that are so dark that even with an oled and the brightness turned up ,there is still issues seeing everything. 👀
Most underrated Sony TV for 2023. The processing in this TV is second to none and I looked at all offerings in the upper mid mini led 's. The picture quality on this TV is stunning and when compared to the Oleds, it's equal but much brighter, cheery display, not the same ol, same ol, deep, dull cast that emits from most Oled offerings, and that include's the LG G3 which quite frankly, I was impressed with. I have this TV in 75" and blooming is not noticable.
I agree, Sony uses the same chip in all their TV's, unlike LG or Samsung. So this TV has the same processing as the X90, X80, X75, etc.... Love this TV. it does look a little weird when in the high stand position, like B is showing. I totally understand why u would need this for the sound bar, it just looks strange propped up.
You really shouldn't set Sony TVs on high local dimming unless it's a low zone count. Even then I still wouldn't do it because it creates anomalies like having firefly effect on dark scenes with small bright objects. It blows out facial details and highlights as well. It makes dark scenes or colors look crushed. Medium is the best setting for local dimming on Sony TV's.
Sony has been putting out the same picture technology since the J series over the last few years. Minor tweaks to settings & features but not to the picture that aren’t worth an upgrade. Save the money & go with the J or K series if you want a Sony tv.
I love your spouse's energy and willingness to support your demonstration; what a good teammate she is. Very helpful. Way to go. I love the video, too.
I've got the X95K and A90J - bright room performance is what this sort of TV is made for and the difference between OLED and Mini LED on APL is almost night and day. Critical viewing OLED, normal viewing Mini LED
I have OLED TV's, would love to try a Mini LED, I had the first Sony 4k tv which was the XBR X900A and it was a cool TV for the time, but the blooming was horrible, and the black levels, well there were NO black levels, the best it did was a washed out grey. The TV looked great for sports but horrible for movies. That TV didn't even have HDR and the Netflix app stopped working. Would love to give Mini LED a try, but I was so put off from that TV, and OLED is just so good. I would imagine sports look best on a mini led as the full picture brightness is so much higher than OLED's. I believe your X95K does around 600 nits full screen (which is amazing), where my LG C2 does something like 180 nits full screen. It's bright enough, and I have never thought this TV is not bright enough (and its in a bright living room with dark drapes) but it's always nicer to be able to have more brightness on tap. Do you notice much blooming on your X95k on normal TV watching or just in movies with black bars?
@@michael-4k4000 normal content the blooming is just not an issue. Sport and regular TV just doesn't have the black levels you are talking. Sure watching Dune is a different question and the OLED is better for really dark scenes but high impact again and HDR has a punch on the X95K. It's a use case question
@@Robobeast76 yea that's what I was thinking. Funny, I just watched Dune the other day for the first time on my new C2 OLED 83", and it is a really dark movie, personally I think it's too dark, and it's not like a brighter TV can make a extremely dark scene brighter. Most new shows are filmed so dark like Ozark, or most new shows on Netflix or Amazon and Apple TV. Just about all these news shows are shot in wide screen which takes about a third of our expensive TVs display away, I understand films are shot 8n wide screen because they are supposed to be seen in a theater, but none of these shows will ever be seen on anything but a 16:9 TV, which means black bars.
@@michael-4k4000 if you really want a mini LED, wait for X95L, or go with QN95C. Though G3 and S95C are pretty bright too, and those 2 makes almost no reason to go on mini LED.
X93L and X95L is completely different TVs. X93L (2023) is relabeled X95K from 2022 for US market. X95L is a complete new TV with 2023 tech (new XR, more dimming zones).
I do like on my Samsung solar remote that the +-/up down buttons are like a little dividing wall so I never accidentally press the streaming service buttons. Not sure if it was intentional, but it works. I don't like that grid line stuff on the back of the TV and assume it will gather dust big time. Not a huge problem cause it's on the back out of view, but as a "Dust person" it would still annoy me. It seems unnecessary, but maybe serves some purpose...
I wonder what the 65” X95L will look like this year for other regions in the world that will carry that size. Hopefully it’ll at least be better than X93L/X95K or perform similarly to the 83” X95L.
@@MirelRC There are 65” and 75” X95EL video reviews from Chinese websites such as bilibili. From the video comparisons, the blooming is much less noticeable on these sizes this year, which is great. Looks like all sizes for the X95L should do quite well this year.
Downgrade compared to previous Sony models except the aliasing thing. It's the only advantage. The blooming making this TV defenelity not perfect for HDR content.
Beautiful. I just got the X90K myself. Just got it yesterday in fact. I'm waiting on a TV stand before I can set it up but so excited to have this. Mine is 85 inches as well.
I've had the 85" for a couple months, honestly, not a single issue with it. I have 2 OLED's, and have no problem watching movies on this in the family room with my wife, instead of in the dark ass basement cave with my OLED's. It's really a fantastic picture and motion.
I feel that Dolby Vision is at times too dark and Sony seems to have a habit of making it worse. Is there a way to not use DV and instead make it default to HDR10. Also, is Adv Contrast enhancer on? That helps at times to push more brightness in HDR.
Sony TVs will just default to whatever the signal is putting out. If you’re using a streaming device or 4K Blu-ray player, you’ll have to manually switch it to HDR10 or just turn it off completely.
that's some nasty blooming, can't remember the X95K 85" model having all that much of those.... maybe it's really just a step down MiniLED model or you just got unlucky with this particular unit, definetly get in the 85" X95L for a comparison.
@@majicogarcia8417 Maybe read the Headline, it says "X93L" I was just comparing it to the X95K from last year that you can find nowadays at same price or even cheaper than the X93L..
Not sure if you still have the 65” X95K, but if you do, a comparison against it & the X93L would be great. I think it’d be an extremely popular vid in the enthusiast community.
There's the new firmware for X95L which can use on the X95K 65". It mitigates the blooming slightly (still very noticeable on my set), but essentially these are the same panels. The blooming is a weird thing, if you go searching for it, you will find it. Once you start using the set, it is easy to get sucked into the immersion of the content (movie, game etc.) and forget the flaw. At the ame time, I wish they had a higher native contrast of around 5000:1 to mitigate the haloing effect, but other than that the TV is perfect. It's a small trade off in the end for all the other things you get for the 95% of the time.
I was wondering the same because if Sony wanted, they could have just pushed forward the X95K into the 2023 lineup like they did the Z95K and the A90K but they didn't.
This isn't really a "new" TV. This is the X95K rebadged as 2023 "X93L". They are moving old stock or don't have enough of the smaller sizes of X95L so they give North America the shaft and let us buy last years TV with an increased price. That said. Besides the Game bar added is there any changes to panel or algorithm. I know nothing else has changed.
The x93l IS the x95k with a gaming and Eco menu... that's it. The improvement for this year is the x95l. " Clear image " processing, more dimming zones, overall improved picture quality. However, only available in an 85 inch size in the US. Sony has offended their customers in the US with these decisions.
@@patrickcotter5629 No, they wouldn't. Sony clearly already understands that when customers are faced with a choice between OLED and Mini-LED they end up choosing OLED about 90% of the time. If a customer is going to spend the money it takes to buy a Mini-LED, then they are almost always going to prefer to spend that exact same amount on an OLED instead - because they are simply better displays in (almost) all areas. That's not rocket surgery, that's just easy math. Sony knows this because industry sales statistics bear it out. The reality is that OLEDs are being embraced by customers today at a FAR higher rate than Mini-LEDs are.
A few years ago, I read about a moth-eye coating that was supposed to be very superior, but I've never heard about it again. Sony made the first ever glossy computer monitor. Unfortunately, many companies follow that new idea.
When comparing side by side, both had great picture quality but I noticed a real motion problem with the S90C.. I went with the 77” X93 L and I’m amazed daily with how nice the PQ is.. especially watching streamed low bit content, looks awesome! Upscaling with Sony is incredible.
I just want a 70”ish tv WITHOUT google or any of the smart apps just a big 4K tv. I don’t use any of the apps I use an Apple TV or mac mini for my content and I hate that you can’t just use the tv you have to sign in or have it connected to the internet.
I Love the Android Google Apps, I have a 65X900E bought it back in 2017 and have used those Apps since. The Apps work great and you can access any Provider including Apple. With the Sony X1 Processor, it handles all the Apps very nice and you don't need the Apple TV!
Can anyone explain to me please I have a Sony OLED a80j with the sonos arc and sub. I have the premiere version of Netflix running on the PS5 I have 4K movies with Atmos but for some reason I still can’t get Atmos on my on my sonos app keeps says Dolby digital plus 5.1
Since I bought a 99” screen, I can’t be enthusiastic about smaller gears anymore, even if their technology is better. Size matters a lot and really big screens have become affordable.
I had to have my Sony 75” X90K replaced under warranty because the screen started to freeze and then the picture would fade out to black although the audio kept working. Hopefully I have better luck with this replacement TV.
I’ve watched 3 reviews on this TV. The other reviewers did not see the blooming that you did. They used different content, so maybe that’s the difference? They seemed to indicate the TV had very little blooming.
Hi what do you recommend the best / most optimal settings for viewing and gaming are for this TV? I also have a PS5 hooked to it, just bought the TV yesterday
My new 65'' 95K arrived this week. The unboxing with my wifey was something like this: Me: (trying to treat tv with the maximum love) Wifey: careful, are you going to take it out there? it will break, it will break, ugh how big it is (the tv), it doesn't fit there, YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK IT, BEWARE, oh it's beautiful 💖 BEWARE, take it carefully OH OW OH BEWARE like that, not like that, be careful, you're going to take it by that side? won't it break? are you going to put it there? there it will break, I am convinced, oh it is very pretty 💖, I love it, but it is very big, is it crooked? be careful, seriously it doesn't fit there, oh well it does fit BEWARE give me patience
B the installer the sound from all sonys oleds mini with the cognitive when you set it up is magnificent set sound to cinema and no matter what you plug into it all these tvs have 2 subwoofers the 2 or 4 speakers in screen
Excellent B! Really wish they start selling the TV's without speakers (or a very small speaker so you can hear something when you are setting it up, like the APPLE Mac mini), and then they can charge less for these displays and they would also weigh a lot less and won't be as heavy. Or have 2 models, one with a speaker and one without. Just about any sound bar would sound better then a top tier TV so its really just a waste and and extra cost that most people aren't using.
If that was our Sony TV that bad boy would be going back to the store it’s way too dark. We have an older Sony and our living room and it looks just as good. Our is very bright and it’s 12 years old. It’s a 62” XBR Bravia screen TV has HDMI but it’s not a smart TV or not a Qled. It’s just a Older LED but we love it so much we don’t want to get rid of it. The screen looks perfect and we’re run it with a AppleTV which is awesome, No complaints here.! It keeps us from buying a new TV because the screen looks so awesome why buy another TV. We have Samsung 65” and our bedroom, and it’s so bright you need sunglasses that’s for real no joke. Thank goodness it’s adjustable so you can turn the brightness down really low if you like it dark like the Sony TV. We’re looking at our you can have it somewhere in the middle or have it where it’s so bright like I said you definitely need sunglasses it’s so bright. Our rooms are not dark at all but what are you going to do at night time you cannot control the brightness unfortunately! You can turn on the lights on while you’re watching TV but who likes doing that? The room you have the Sony in was very bright in my opinion and the screen was still dark, so what could you do? You should be happy with your purchase and shouldn’t have to settle with something that’s not to your liking.
Hello, what do you think of the 85X90CL vs the 85X95K? I currently have the 85X90CL and I stream 99.99% of the time, but I'm considering buying a PS5 for Black Friday. I like the X90CL because of its clarity and colors, but I wouldn't mind if it was brighter, had better blacks, and less blooming 😁. Is the 85X95K for $2,600 + mini-led+ more dimming zones worth considering over the 85X90CL for $2,000+ 5 year free warranty + XR Clear?.
I love watching you and your wife doing these reviews, but c'mon you must know this is NOT a new tv. The x93l is an x95k with a gaming and Eco menu. The upgrade this year comes with the x95l. Clear image processing, more dimming zones, overall improved picture quality, but only available in the US in an 85 inch size. Sony is offending their customers in the US with these decisions.
great review. honest. my issue with sony, which i love, is that when you boost up the peak brightness it amplifies the blooming. I wish they wouldn’t play games with the dimming zones like they do. Will always love Sony tho.
Okay, so does anyone have a recommendation for a 65 to 75-inch TV that doesn't cost any more than the X93L and upscales as well as it does but with less blooming, that is NOT an OLED? Maybe a tall order! But I need to replace a TV that I use for both work (doubles as a monitor) and entertainment and that I typically run for 12+ hours a day. (Which is why I don't want an OLED.) So far this looks to be about the best compromise I can find, but maybe one of you knows better. ;)
Yeah dude. Sony x93L has 2150:1 native contrast, the HIsense U8K has like 7500:1 native contrast. It’s like just way more Snappy crisp when close up to tv. The x93L looks good from like 10 feet away. Due to lower contrast ratio (native) it has a soft look when close. But thats just me nick picking tho cuz i have those NICE LEDs , my eyes will pickup things when i saw them in person in store :) 😊
