I've had my eye on the sony ones for a few months with rumours and leaks etc but now don't know if I should get them. I can get the Sennheiser momentum 2 for £169 with the student discount from the Sennheiser website as opposed to the sony xm4 at £250. It sounds like a no brainer but I need a professionals reassurance. Should I get the Sennheisers?
Thank you for doing the comparison. Can we tune the xm4 closer to Sennhesiser sound quality? I love the sound of Sennheiser but the app of Sony is the best. I am am torn between this two
Jeff, You are a grand slam reviewer! Awesome detailed and comprehensive flow of information. You make the best videos. Very enjoyable and interesting to sit through. You deserve 1 million plus subscribers. I've listened to all the others and you are on top. 5 stars Jeff! Truly entertaining.
first time hearing this dude review something. i like his style. clear and fluent.. and he's got a chill vibe. like we could grill and have a beer on a saturday and be cool.
thanks for the review! I missed Jim's review room for times like these and so far only you managed to actually replaced the spot for me.. keep up the good work my man!
You do great work, bruv. The realistic battery life testing is a big deal. Same with the detailed sound stage description. These things are priorities for me.
A lot of reviewer reviewing this, yet I wait for my brother El Jefe to drop his. Cause he is the one I trust when it comes to this sort of stuffs. Loads of love.
Sounds to me like the Sennheiser's are the way to go. The M4's seem really good but based on the call comparisons and the fact that you stated the Sennheisers ran away with the sound quality ranking, Im gonna have to go with the Momentum 2's. Thanks for this vid!
Thanks for sharing. The M4s have do a lot of things well but they fall behind on those qualities you mentioned. Hopefully with a few updates they will be able to close the gap.
Yeah ikr. Volume and sound quality is higher than the m4s and they clearly won the call quality test too. They really be competing with the new buds in market very well
You do have to keep in mind that it's the creator's opinion. His own experience of good sound likely does not match your own exactly. It's best to try out multiple options to see what you like the best.
XM4 vs Bose? For me - noise cancellation is super important. I have AirPods Pro and wondering if I should just stay or make the switch to something else?
Man, massive thanks for that microphone test at the end. It's so frustating that even now during covid where we spend so much time in meetings most reviewers don't bother testing the damn microphone!
@@vacowboy75 Tough to say as the XM4s have replaced the Momentum 2 TWS as my daily driver currently. I do reach for them occasionally to do some comparisons here and there. The biggest difference is the sound stage from the TWS 2s, with the high end audio tuning it makes it even more wider than it was without it enabled and it does crispen up the vocals and separate the instruments somewhat. In terms of sound quality they are both good in their own ways, might have to start swapping them every other day to see what really makes one better than the other. ANC and Ambient mode hands down are better on the XM4s, 2 extra mics per bud makes a difference.
I've always seen this channel in my search results and automatically dismissed it assuming it's some random low quality channel. But damn! This is BY FAR the highest quality and most comprehensive review I've watched for these earbuds. Instantly liked, subscribed, and turned on the notification bell! I hope you get the recognition you deserve asap! Severely underrated right now.
Thank you for the kind words. I work extremely hard to bring viewers the best experience possible while providing the necessary information they need to make a purchase decision. The recognition is highly appreciated.
Amazing review and so thorough. Gained my subscription. I listen to Rock, alternative rock, rap and instrumentals. Really confused if to pick the Sony XM4 or the the Sennheiser... The only thing holding me back is the battery life tbh with the Sennheiser. You have anything to say in regards to that? Thanks!
Battery life is the biggest weak point on the Sennheiser. So it’s a trade off. Only you can decide if the increase in sound quality is worth the loss of battery life.
As far as I'm concerned the battery life is many times longer than I'd be comfortable wearing earbuds in the first place. Even if I used them at work in a loud factory, I'd still remove them and put them in the charger to take a lunch break.
Really felt like Sennheiser took the spot for call quality😂😂 they really be competing against the newer buds really well. Just ordered myself mtw2 and can't wait! Your reviews are amazing and really helped me choose my buds since this is gonna be my first TWE!
I love my Sony XM4s until I saw the reviews comparing and testing it against the Bose QC Airbuds and the Bose seemed much better at ANC and call quality during noisy backgrounds. Would you be comparing the Sony's next to the Bose anytime soon?
This review is so good, thank you for comparing the call quality. Not many people do that and that's one of the most important things for me when I look for true wireless earphones. Very detailed and super helpful! Sad that these are all so expensive tho xD The only thing I don't understand is the difference from acc or ldac and the other one
Question is how long they last. Sonys sound great but I've owned a few older models that died out within a little over a year. 1 hour battery life and one side always disconnects constantly....
Lost my WMX4. Was deciding to get them back or go for Sennheiser MTW2, two years old. Bought the Sennheisers after watching your review. First it didn't look like the sound quality is really so much better, but after few minor adjustments, man, I have to confirm, it really is! Thanks for this review, really helpful! I'm enjoying the sound so much;) great job!
Thanks for the review. The sound quality test in different environments was very helpful and a separator for your reviews over others that I have seen. Well done. Torn between the Sennheisers and the WF1000M4s
@@ELJefeReviews Buuuuuut you literally ranked the Sennheiser's #1 in sound quality.. LOL so which is it? In this comment section youre stating the Sony's have excellent sound quality but in your vid you ranked the Sennheisers higher. And this was not the call quality comparison, this was in your sound quality rankings..
Man, I hope you had a bad pair of Samsung earbuds pro because I don’t have to tell you how poor that sounded. I’ve been using the air buds plus, the model below the pro, for over a year and have tested that sound quality. I put it closer to the Sennheiser buds.
Great video. The XM-4 really bring a lot to the table. What really impressed me is how much Sony has improved over the XM-3, while reducing the overall footprint. With Prime Day coming up, these may be on my radar.
This video was EXACTLY what I needed. Your comparisons where the best I've seen and helped me make the decision to purchase The Sony WF-1000XM4. Impressive video for sure! UPDATE: I used your link to purchase them via Amazon. Thank you again for this helpful video!
Honestly, these 2 earbuds had such close reviews that I had to buy both myself to compare. In the end, I decided on the Sennheiser. It really does have a wider, deeper soundstage. The bass is much more accurate. With the most recent update to the Sennheiser's mobile app, it's much easier to tune the equalizer and therefore after tuning the equalizer, the Sennheiser sounds better. I find that the bass on the Sony only sounds good for certain songs, it misses certain bass so I don't even hear it with some songs. Best part is, the Sennheiser is now $230, so it's quite a bit cheaper than the Sony's. Only downside is that the Sennheiser is a little less loud, but this would only matter for those who prefer to listen on max volume all the time.
I'm actually about to do the same thing. I bought the Sennies yesterday, but truthfully.. they sound a bit muddy to me. Tweaking the EQ did help, but they're still lacking a certain something (punch.. kick?? Can't quite put my finger on it). They just don't kick, when music is supposed to 😕 .. I'm hoping the Sony's may deliver a bit more excitement.
@@kristineve9080 Could be bad luck with the hardware lottery. But it could also be that Sony's type of sound is what you prefer. I can't say I have experience with any wireless earbuds other than trying out some of Apple's a bit... which I found lacking. But the Sony XM3's brought a smile to my face the moment I listened to a song on it for the first time. I'm sticking with them until I feel like there's wireless earbuds available that truly outclass them for a reasonable price. Everything else out there right now still seems like an incremental upgrade. But I'm also not the type of person to replace things I spent good money on quickly (€160 or so a few years ago). I imagine in a year or 2 or 3 I'm ready to upgrade.
Best review of xm4 on RU-vid so far, I've the MTW 2 and pre-ordered the xm4, may I know if it's possible to adjust the EQ of xm4 to make it similar to MTW 2 sound tuning? And may I know if the volume issue exists if only LDAC is enabled without DSEE?
The volume problem with LDAC is typical; it is an LDAC thing that can be enabled or disabled on the source itself; for example, on the Sony walkman, features are available whether to raise the volume or turn it down from the receiver, in this case, the earbuds.
I'm not surprised by this reaction at all. It's actually been happening since before I was on RU-vid. My voice and vocabulary don't match my looks at all!
Thanks for this video i orderer xm4 i.m jumping to it from Samsung buds 2 it's going to be big jump your video gave me clear answers to my questions Thanks buddy
Sony also seems to be on top of updating their software. Since last night, you can control the adaptive mode with actionable notifications if you want to. I also really like how I can use the Google Assistant even on iOS without a Siri detour. Overall I’ve had my XM4s for a couple of days now and I’m really happy with them.
I was going to go for the bowers and Wilkins p17 for sheer sound quality. However the fact they don't have an eq was a complete deal breaker and I went with these. Now I don't know if the sound on the bowers is better? But boy oh boy these are absolutely fantastic in every way. They absolutely smash my airpods pro in sound quality and ANC! They smash my galaxy buds pro in sound as well. They're on a par if not slightly better than my brother's Senheisser momentum 2s! And you can play around with the eq which imo Sony's is the best out there. It actually makes a huge difference to the sound you hear unlike others that literally make no difference. In short I'm.glas I picked these. If the bowers do sound better then they must be using some form of magic!!! Trust me the sound of these Sony's are out of this world. They're compatible to over hear headphones and good ones at that.
Are these too bulky for workouts (especially jogging)... Should I avoid them? I am worried about if I jog for an hour/hour and half that my ears will be sore...these things look gigantic....I love my big Sony xm3 headphones so I'm interested in staying with Sony
Thanks for such a complete review, it helped me to understand the issue about these earbuds. I bought them 3 weeks ago and almost give up trying to adjust them and get rid of the eq shifting when raising the volume beyond 65%. I followed your advice and set de codec to AAC only and it helped a lot, but I can still hear a substancial difference in treble. When raising volume beyond 65% the highs start to fade until almost disappear at 100%. Do you know about Sony having plans to solve this problem with a firmware update? Congratulations, I really enjoy your reviews, you are really El Jefe among all reviewers.
I really wanna get these, just not sure I'll get on with the fit with them being relatively bulky. Fit wise, I am loving the Liberty Air 2 Pro. Great video as always.
great work dude, just searching for this comparison, testing testing 1 2 3;) I choose Sennheiser's as the sound quality is the best, too much ANC isn't too good to me - making me feel alienation
I don't know if anyone chimed in on this but I listen to audiobooks and podcasts about 70% of the time. The rest of the time is either music (rock) or background nature sounds for blocking out noise in crowded areas. It's hard to find a review that mentions mostly talking. I would also love to hear from a woman who has smaller ears about the fit on these. I hate the fit of one of my regular Airpods- they just don't fit one of my ears. I tried the UE Fits and the fit was great but the sound was soooo treble-heavy that it hurt my ears. I'm really curious about these because I have Sony WH-XB900N over the ear headphones and I LOVE THEM.
I'm wondering if they're trying to limit it through software to hide any bit of distortion in LDAC 🤔. I still want these lol I can't wait to listen to some Run The Jewels with them 😎
the mics are best out of the Sennheiser TW2 and then XM4 IMO, the Airpods is good on quiet locations but plug in all the noise. Samsung is just sleeping on the volume pickup. yes the Sony has that compressed sound but IMO they also cut out all the background noise better.
Agreed. The waveforms from the recording actually showed the XM4 cut the most background noise. They just need a bit more tuning from Sony to match the Sennheisers mic clarity.
11:31 I absolutely DIED at "dummy quiet" 😂 great review dude, just subscribed! I couldn't decide between these or the Galaxy Bud Pros But seeing that these have nearly all of their features plus superior noise cancellation, fit, and audio I'm DEFINITELY going with these!🔥
@@ELJefeReviews Wow, thanks for the quick reply! I know the ANC of the sony’s will be much better, but I was wondering about the sound quality outside of ANC. I saw reviews say the beats studio buds sound balanced and pretty much on par with the airpods pro, while you mentioned the sonys needed some EQing to sound better. Do you think the Beats could actually be better than the sonys if you don’t need heavy ANC because they might sound better?
Excellent review. Really great video, nice to see other companies improving their wireless earbuds to give apple some actual competition. For me, me all time most listened music gotta be Metal, Hip Hop and Lofi
Ok so I just got the buds and man they move in ear way too much !! Wtffff. They’re just too too heavy !! They need wing tips to keep them stable….now I’m thinking if I should return them because I really don’t to constantly adjust them
This happens from time to time. All our ears are different and for some people these simply wont work. Comfort is everything so I don't blame you for returning them. I hope you can find something that works well for you.
Hey EL JEFE Ive heard about battery problems on these earbuds. They wear down unevenly and eventually the battery is completely ruined have you experienced this?
I have not experienced this myself. But many people I trust have experienced the battery problems. This is another reason I stopped recommending the Sony XM4 earbuds a LONG time ago.
The spin fit ear tips were a huge improvement for me thanks for the suggestion. Really opened up the soundstage and liveliness of the music. And much easier to put on.
Aprreciate the honesty man. Why is there so much hype on these earbuds? I purchased them and they don't come close to the quality sound on high volume to the liberty 3 pro, the cx plus sound better. I don't understand how is top 5 all over RU-vid. Definitely top 10 but not 5. I return them and got another pair of liberty and bought the cx plus.
Absolutely love these buds for working in a factory and getting rid of that background noise. My only complaint is when I talk on the phone there is an audible beep feedback from the headphones.
Great Earbuds, but a little after one year the charger case died. Cost to replace is over $139 for a genuine Sony replacement. That's punitive considering that I did nothing to damage the charger case.
Why do the Sonys fit so well in your ears T-T They hang out my ears and are pretty uncomfortable. Way too big for me. That’s why I had to go with something else. $350 dollars is way to much for earbuds that don’t fit.
Why? Because everyone's ears are shaped and sized differently. The Sony simply do not fit you well. It's unfortunate but that is life. All you can do is move on to something smaller that fits your ears better.
Love the review - thank you. LDAC > DSEE, you shouldn't need to have DSEE if listening to lossless and LDAC is enabled. not sure how this relates to your volume issues though.
@@ELJefeReviews it been lunch before year maybe the next generation soon I have XM3 but I was think to change for XM4 but I would wait for the next generation
i have the xm4 ear buds now for their price they are kind of bad. Now i had wh-ch 510 before xm4 are they are a upgrade from them? no... the sound is the same only thing good about xm4 is the noise canceling(yes i have bought them new not used)I do not want to call them king of earbuds nor i want to call them bad and do not get me started on the case i had them from the release and these days it started to feel low quality
Best review I’ve watched so far. Good job. I recently got the Earfun Free Pros which I feel have really impressive sound out of the box. How would you compare the sound to those? I know ANC will be much better on the Sony’s - but I was wondering if the sound signature would be comparable at all?
Apologies for missing this question. I believe the EarFun Free Pro can easily compete with the XM4 and in certain cases defeat them for sound quality. Sadly, both the ANC and Ambient modes on the EFP cannot match the XM4.
bought them, returned them. ANC is better than the airpod pros for sure, music isn't that much better, and they kept disconnecting from my iPhone 12 pro max and you have to use another app to mess with the settings. Airpods are just easier.
Fair enough. Especially if you're experiencing a faulty connection. I would have returned them same as you. Thankfully mine have played nicely with both my iPhone 12 Pro and iPad Pro (2021) so far.
I know your review is 3 months old now but just wanted to say I appreciate you taking the time to make this video. This really helped me out in choosing which earbuds to get. I was dead set on getting the XM4s but after watching your review, I switched to the Senns. I get it this Friday and looking forward to it!
