Sony WH-1000XM5: What worked (and what didn't) 

Perfect pairing with my 1 IV whenever I'm on flights and working remotely. It's super comfortable on my head and the material is quite nice. The 1000X series have evolved nicely IMO.

Am considering getting this or the XM4 (depending on how it goes once I get to try them out in the store) for use with my iPhone and iPad.

@JoshuaVergara Great review 👏 (plz see questions below) You make it very clear what your experience & your situation are; which in turn makes it easy to compare my own situation to yours and form my own opinions 👍 👍 Three questions, if you could, please: 1. 09:53 The no-AC-and-no-2fans-noises ANC flex is nice and sounds great in your recording, but: When connecting to a windows PC/laptop - don't you have to choose between mono-sound + mic, and stereo-sound but no-mic? If true, as it was on the XM3s afaik, then in many scenarios - like discord convo with friends, or watching a movie in an online meeting with friends or on a stream, or sound-related-presentation work meeting from the home-office, etc - it is often better to have stereo-sound and use an external mic, which means you don't get the ANC of the XM5s helping you with the Mic... Which makes this whole selling point moot. Would you agree with this assessment? I'd love your input 🙂 2. Also, what codec do the XM5s use when connected to a pc? Because it was my understanding that there is no LDAC (nor aptX, for the most part) via PC Bluetooth receivers at the moment. So does it use AAC with windows 10? Or SBC? Or...? I'm considering getting the XM5s, and these two points are what is currently holding me back. But also, while I have ya: 3. I have noticed the cool female wearing the XM5s in the video (I don't want to assume who she is to you, so I just say female in this case)... When wearing her hair down, does she ever find that the hair triggers the touch-gestures in the headphones without her using her hand/fingers for it? I find that happens to me all the time with my crappy Hyphen earbuds, and I was wondering if this happens with headphones too 😅

I find that comment somewhat embarrassing because if you knew good sound you wouldn't ever say the word Apple or beats by dre.

@@DNGR369 the Apple AirPods Max are truely amazing in terms of sound quality with a great sound stage and amazing separation that even rivals the 800 USD Bang Olufsen H95.

Look, I don't d disagree with the "respect your product" approach here. But with all due respect as a designer myself, I really don't think you can deny in any way shape or form, that with such strides in design and such efforts having been put on the design of these - that they could've also have thought of how exposing the inside of the ear cups outwards is simply worst than having the additional ability to tuck them so they are facing your body while on your neck. It's not just food that's the issue (though, seriously, I would never eat with them on unless maaaaybe in a long distance flight, if even). The issue is also germs, for example. In a day and age when a sneeze means much more than it used to, it is a serious downside to have the buds facing towards whoever is in front of you. Here I am wearing a mask in very public scenario, and if anyone sneezes my way, then I'm supposed to still feel comfortable putting those on my ears after the ear cups faced that sneeze? You're saying "be respectful", I'm saying "why not both?" I can be respectful of the product I spent my money on, while still expecting a better design from such an expensive pair of headphones. Stop casting generational-blame, and open your mind a little more to other perspectives, I say. Disclaimer: I'm not a millennial

@@Ecko92 Yep, am aware of that. Thanks for the reminder. But I like how the XM4 sounds when paired with my Apple devices. Am also planning to get a DAP like the Sony Walkman or probably an Android phone with decent DAC so...

For a smart phone? As if you've experienced phones better? U must be young and spoiled maby? But phones have reached a crazy amount of evelution you can't imagine. If you haven't experienced its journey. The footage is perfectly Axactor how it is, comparison creates devaluation of its nature based upon prefferance. Double edge sword indeed it is🙃

i have it. its very comfy almost wearing nothing and I wear glasses. i can put and remove them without problems. in hot weather, I can tell its ok for me. i mean I sweat on the ear area with it on, but doesn't every headphones do that.

That would be a mistake. Just returned the XM5's. Very uncomfortable. Mediocre sound, not folding, cheap presentation, nightmare when it comes to adjusting, uneven ear compression. Take the case and place the headphones as if the case is your head. You'll notice what i mean

@@chrise202 Yo. Cant support your comment. Replaced my xm2 with the xm5 and tbh. The xm5 is way better. Sound, comfort etc. BUT i don‘t notice any upgrades for anc compared to xm2. I‘m hardly disappointed, maybe i expected too much from them

@@hlbwlt4867 From xm2 to xm5 yes. But from xm4 to xm5 is downgrade. I'd even keep xm3s at this point.

​@@chrise202 Not folding is an advantage from a reliability perspective. My previous headphones (Bose QC25) is hissing and crackling from constant folding.

​@@chrise202wdym? The Sony wh-1000xm5 are the most comfortable headphones out there. If you don't like the default sound, just tweak the eq a bit

It is a gimmick i’d rather disable it

If it's too loud turn it down. Just use a bit of common sense. I've been using headphones almost every day for over 30 years and have no problems with my hearing and I never used the decibel ratings to figure it out. Especially with noise cancellation there's no reason to have the volume up super loud.

You mostly pay the extras for the design/fit and for the noise cancellation. The NC is amazing!

@@JoeGillian0 nope! He just says best headphones, no BT or ANC. There's also Mark Levinson 5909 ANC headphoneswhich excels in sound quality.

He did not say best sounding headphones either, so I guess it depends how important the noise cancelling is to you.

Bose qc45 have better noise cancelling.

I’m in aus too I’d get these if they folded had no fingerprints etc etc but if it’s a bday gift I’d be happy. What are you getting, expensive too

Completely agree. Everything about the xm4s I love. But the multi device is just garbage.

Genuine question: for what do you need the multi device pairing? I find it pretty annoying, so I turned it off for my AirPods Max actually

@@alinapolat7336 I work from two computers. I switch back and fourth using a KVM. I'd love to be able to just, ya know, connect to both sources and listen to both at the same time.

The ANC in XM5 is closest to perfection you can buy. Teste any other earphone and see...

Im amazed every time i turn on ANC on my xm5s. Its literally like everything around you disappeared. If you want insane anc, these will make you happy for sure

I returned my XM5 because of the top of head pressure. The cabin pressure inside the XM5 was too high too

@@williebcool the anc pressure didn't bother me . Since making this comment I do not care for the XM5 Sound the SoundCore Q35 And Q45 Have Better Sound and my XM3 I only use to sleep in .

I tried these at best buy and they didn't creak. I thought the gray color looked sleek and stylish. They didn't have it in stock though so I didn't walk away with them.
