We unbox the Sony X90J 4K LED LCD TV, go through the setup process, & explain the picture settings in the user menu.

Extremely late to the party here but this tv does actually have a way of installing the feet without having to remove the tv and placing it on its side. Just pull down either side of the cardboard at the bottom, then break off the sections at either end of the styrofoam as you place the feet in. Keeps the thing face up and still possible to do singlehanded.

I wonder if Vincent has ever dropped a TV ? It looked like a close run thing at 3.46 of this video when he turned around with the TV in his arms and the wrapping paper got caught around his feet

I actually have no idea why he lifted it out of the box. It seems like the bottom styrofoam comes in 3 pieces, so if he would bend the cardboard downwards, he should be able to remove one side of the styrofoam, put in one leg and do the same for the other side. It was exactly the same with my X950G.

@@doderiolarkisso4038 Higher peak brightness/better HDR, price, no burn in, better in bright rooms, can be placed in direct sunlight. There are several reasons. However, I had a 77" C8 which produced burn in after 9 months of use and I have now switched back to LED LCD until these issues are fixed once and for all or until micro (not mini) LED TV's come out.

Vincent also says the same things about Sony processing and motion as Caleb, if many enthusiasts say the same thing then at what point do you accept thats its generally thought of as better than the competition? Sometimes things really are just better and its not "fanboyism", it doesn't mean all aspects are better though.

As a person that has been using Samsung for years and just got there first OLED (A90J), the picture is great but I do low-key miss the blinding brightness. Something to get use to.

"Expensive" is different for everyone, but oled isn't bright enough for me. Was hopeful with the a90j but then i saw it in person next to u8g and was like, wtf. Ill wait till oled get brighter and keep my x90j.

I got LG CX in January. It's too dark for me. Thus I put it in my bedroom. I watch it with curtains closed but it's still too dark. For Living Room I am upgrading to Sony X95J. I know from personal experience, OLED is overrated.

Have had this tv for 6 months now and getting very strange vertical ghosting lines all across the screen and during dark scenes on games and movies it’s very noticeable. Contacted Sony and they are sending a new one. Other then the issue above the tv is great.

HDR movies is meant to watch max brightness, thts why the setting defaulted to max brightness

Yes leaving max brightness in HDR is recommended for best picture quality as opposed to SDR. As brightness only applies to highlights and bright areas for maximum impact. whereas, in SDR it applies to whole image uniformly.

You’re lucky, we have the 50” and there is no pull away box . You have to lift it out and not crush the screen 🙄. They do provide a little cardboard for protection . Out of the box was awful . Good picture after calibration.

Bought this tv and love it! Took me a while to figure out that the menu section doesn’t really show the changes. The changes show up when you actually play something (Netflix, RU-vid). I was worried my tv was broken but now it’s calibrated and it’s amazing.

@@so7235 I found a few videos and copied their settings, but over time tweaked it a little for my liking. I am a fan of seeing pure blacks and vivid colors, but not TOO saturated. Make sure you open Netflix/RU-vid first, then open your settings and go to Standard: Auto Picture Mode - Off Light Sensor - Off Brightness - 40 Contrast - 90 Gamma - 0 Black Level - I have 35, but 35-45 works Black Adjust - Off Adv. Contrast Enhancer - Off Auto Local Dimming - High Peak Luminance Low Color - 65 Hue - 0 Color Temperature - Neutral Live Color - Medium (low is good too) The rest should be your preference, but the settings above will change the way the black/dark areas look and the colors. Hope that helps!

I have the X90J as well! Did you ever get your T.V professional calibrated? There are soo many options to change my head is about to spin ughhh. I want nice crisp picture for my direct tv stream service but, it's just not coming thru like it does for HBO MAX and NetFlix, etc... How do I make it so all channels look crisp and clear like a 4k should?

do all updates , all the pictures settings and show to us plus show how looks motion while playing, because there was a lot of videos about very bad motion in games and pictures and colours that are not colourful.

Hi, thanks for sharing your videos. Today I got a x95j on a very good deal but right when I first turned it on, the screen showed a lot of halos that I wasn't expecting from a TV of this price... I've noticed that when I started playing content, the local dimming kicks in and it minimizes the effect... Do you think I should send it back and got a bad screen? In this video when you first start the TV the screen seems to be very uniform unlike mine... I'm having mixed feelings and would like an experienced user to help me decide... Thank you!

Ok so I bought this tv , and so far I cannot get call of duty Cold War to go into 4K 120 at all , I’ve done everything , calibrated , reset , make sure the Dolby wasn’t on , just use the enhanced version on the 2.1 ports , nothing changes , I’m about to take it back because that’s why I bought this tv , I could’ve bought a cheaper tv that does what this is doing. Is there something I’m missing ?

Can you make a video about Sony xr sound settings, I've never understood what Dolby audio does it seems to be quieter than cinema, music or sport. I am using without a sound bar, should I use Dolby audio or not?

Vincent, I have been following your channel for sometime. Can you advice on below. I bought a Sony 65inch XR-X90J less than a year ago. The ARC communication with my Klispch BAR48 does not seem to communicate properly. When the connection is made I can use the Sony remote to increase the volume of the soundbar (this can be seen on the LEDs at the side of the bar), but I cannot reduce the volume. Every time I press Vol Down on the remote, the LED indicator does not go down and the screen shows '0 volume'. The Klispch remote works fine but there should not be any issue with the Sony remote. Sony customer support is totally non-existent in Singapore. Can you think of a suggestion. Thanks

Can you please touch on the BGR sub pixel layout, it seems Sony is moving away from the traditional RGB layout which is disappointing as it affects PC use causing blurry text, Rtings' review of the 55X90J confirmed the BGR sub pixel layout, perhaps it varies upon panel size & the 65/75 size panels still use RGB layout?

If Somy TV's are improperly configured to a DIFFERENT but recognisable standard then surely that means the offset doesn't change and aside from panel variance a more accurate colour adjustment must be possible in all case by knowing what that off-set is ??? For example the TV's all being way to blue by default.

What problems are you having? I have only had the tv for a few days, got the 50 inch, it’s in a large room with all windows darkened. I’m using it in Standard picture mode, not Custom, I didn’t like Custom. Some suggestions I would offer, turn brightness down to about 10. Turn colour saturation down to about 40. Have colour temperature on neutral. Turn light sensor On. Other than that I’m still not overly impressed with actual colour but it varies between tv programs, some look good some look crap. Some skin colour can look good and crap within the one tv program.

I am a gamer. I value quality and *longevity* over features; No matter the brand. That being said, my main question is: Would you rather pick up Sony's X90J, or just grab the the X85J that houses the same X1 chip as last year's infamous x900H and save your-self another $400+? Some of my non-negotiables are: I want HDMI 2.1, true 4k/ 120hz, Q(LED). Please advise?

For very good black levels the QN95a is amazing tv but more expensive. I'd go x90j for the full array backlighting. Get better black levels

Dolby vision nextflix content on the tv app is completely washed out, dark and with a greenish haze, no option to turn it off or switch to hdr10, any help would be appreciated 👍

Yes it does, Oled is still a gamble for long term use an if u plan on keeping same TV for many years before deciding on a new one full array has many of the sameish features without worry of it screwing up so easily at any random point

A90J is OLED; X90J is QLED. They are categorically different TV's though... But to answer your question, if you're a gamer, definitely opt for the X90J. It's significantly less expensive, and no burn-ins.

Not sure I agree with turning off the Light Sensor. I guess if the tv is set up in a home theatre room with permanently dimmed lighting then ok, but for all of us that have a tv in a room that changes a bit in ambient light level between sunny / cloudy day, day and night, then having the light sensor on is in my humble opinion a necessity. If you have the TVs brightness set to look correct of a day then of a night it will appear way too bright unless the light sensor is turned on.

Our priority on this channel is colour accuracy. There's no way to maintain accurate colours with the intervention of ambient light sensor.

@@hdtvtest But how does brightness relate to colour. As a photographer the tools I use in editing to effect light have virtually no effect on colour, and visa versa. People watch tv to appreciate the viewing experience, the viewing experience is the sum of many parts. As I sit here in the middle of the night and turn the light sensor off the viewing experience becomes terrible. Sorry but I have to disagree with you on this. When you review a tv you don’t focus solely on colour accuracy, you cover the tv as a whole. My advice to everyone is turn the light sensor on, at least on this tv because it’s very sensitive and responsive, and will make the watching experience far more pleasurable.

Can anyone help me out with motion on the X90H for sports? Unfortunately there is no sports mode.. i tried different settings (film mode on/off - adjusted clearness and smoothness but didnt get a satisfactory result. The ball is juddery when it gets fast across the screen for example by shooting or crossing(soccer). When i disable all motion settings, the judder will also disappear but then everything just looks very unsmooth.
