Sony XM5 Review | Best of Sony ANC Headphones?

As for folding, XM4 had issues with hinge snapping off, since there were so many moving parts. XM5's will solve the issue and make headphones more durable. If anyone still confused between XM4 and XM5 I have an algorithm for you - If you don't own any XM series headphones go for XM5 eyes closed. - If you own XM4, wait for XM6 unless you really want improved call quality (which is huge step up)

For those feeling the bass is boomy the fix is in the developer settings. By default the ldac goes to 96 khz/32bit and not in "990kbps" mode. You should first force it to "990kbps " mode and set it to the bitrate/depth of the file you are listening. This can be obtained in app atleast in apple music it clearly shows the bitrate of the file. With this the clarity improves drastically and atleast in xm4 I listen with off equalizer setting.

I bought xm4 over these, although xm5 would have been great but i got mine for 17000 in sale The price difference was too much for little upgrade value (for me at least) and i don’t regret my decision at all Xm4 are absolutely lovely

It's good to see a big reviewer like you is reviewing these niche audio products. As an audio enthusiast, my experience with XM3 headphones was good but I returned due to unacceptable call quality. I used XM3 TWS too which had even worse call quality but I decided to keep them as I got them as a gift. About XM3 headphones at that time Bose QC 35 ii was a strong competitor. I compared both of them side by side and I preferred the XM3 for sound quality but call quality and comfort was way better in Bose. After that XM4 was released which wasn't a big upgrade from XM3 and now the XM5 is here and it's good to see that calling issue is fixed. However, this product was launched earlier in global market and seeing reviews from there, in terms of sound quality some some said it's a downgrade from XM4 and the bulky size does nkt really help to recommend. During Amazon festival sale, this was launched in India. But Sennheiser has also launched their momentum 4 in India at the same time. From global reviews I got the impression that momentum 4 has set a new benchmark in terms of sound quality and also battery life (60 hours as they claim). So I was very excited to buy the Momentum 4 instead of XM5. But it's a huge disappointment how they priced it in India. XM5 launched at $399 globally and Indian price is ₹27000. Whereas Momentum 4 is priced at $349, but sales at ₹35000 in India. Just waiting to see if it drops during upcoming sales. Also a review from you about the new Momentum 4 would be much appreciated.

I love these Headphones. I have been using them for 2 months now and I agree on all the points (Pros and Cons). They are bulky to carry in flights but the sound quality and ANC is excellent. Ambient Sound Control is fantastic and I can confirm that the comfort is 2nd to none. I previously had QC35 and could use them continuously for 5-6 hours to take work calls but XM5s' are even better. Great detailed review Ranjit sir. I still use my QC35 time to time (I bought them in 2017 and have been using them for 5 years, daily for 7-8 hours) and just wanted to upgrade to something new and I am glad I upgraded to XM5.

The touch sensitivity is only on the right ear cup - for both volume/track controls as well as ambient sound pass-through.

On XM series we need to EQ alot to make it good. Out of the box all of them are too bass heavy. Sir, you should try wavelet. It provides 10band eq on top of presets for hundreds of popular headphones that target harman curve. But bass shelf is 2db lower than normal on those. So you might feel bass is lower than you might like. You can manually tweak that tho

Started using it recently. Yes - you are correct music clarity - Airpod Pro is at par or someway slightly better than XM5, bass is medium but overall balance is quite good. Experiencing mic issues (low volume complaints in the call) while in battery of headphone 50% and phone 17%. Is it for phone low battery of mic issues? Dont know, can anyone pls suggest?

Its great . Using it after bose qc for 2 month now . Selected due to call quility and am not dissapointed . From a Programmer .

I was actually waiting for your review during their launch, but it never came so I just went with the word of mkbhd and got them, and I really love them in all the aspects, they're my first big budget headphones, I also have tws xm3 and even they feel like a toy when compared to these (ofc there's no comparison between the two they're great in their own ways but still)

I have the xm4s and tired the xm5s for a bit and I could instantly feel that the 5s are much more comfortable.

Sennheiser Momentum 4 is the best ❤️ in this price range. Anyone can test it side by side and understand the pure sound quality and instrument seperation

Is the battery replacement easily supported by Sony ?

I experienced xm4 and xm5 both are bassy and heavy in weight...make vaccum pressure while noise cancellation enabled. Bought bose QC 45. Light weight,great sound out of the box, i never play with EQs.

Just last week I bought the XM4 and these are awesome

Needed some advice on purchasing headphones. There are so many options but almost all of them have a strong drawback. Can someone give me their personal recommendations and thoughts on what they use? I need it to be wireless, but option of wired. Biggest priority is microphone and comfort of wearing. Rest everything I am fine if it is decent. I was looking at the Sony's XM4s but their mic is trash. XM5 solves that problem but its way beyond my budget. Any recommendations guys?

I own the xm5, i do not know why none of the youtubers talk about a serious issue with anc. In xm5 anc is controlled using AI. There is no option to manually set the anc strength. This auto anc thing is crap. most of the time anc is like 50% when it could be 100% all the time. This makes background noises more hearable if you are in a office enviornment. very dissapointed. Do not buy until sony fixes this issue.

As an XM5 owner for a few months now, I can confidently say that the sound quality is trash. These are a fit great, ANC is unbeatable but if you care about sound quality then DON'T BUY these. No amount of EQing can fix these, they sound dead and lifeless. Not to say they don't sound good but there is better and cheaper on the market. The Sennheiser Momentum 4 (I also own) are MILES better in the sound quality department and are cheaper too. So buy the Momentum 4 if you want good sound quality, buy the XM5 if you don't

Bought xm5 recently. Since I don't have AC in my home and it is getting hotter now in India it's a big problem to wear. Other than that no problem. Best headphones out in the market for the price.(24k)

I have the XM3s, the direction of improvements is good, but I guess another couple of iterations of improvements are needed to consider an upgrade…as the XM3s battery still holds up for 20+ hours
