I am so glad to watch a real photographer/ videographer talking about the new Xperia 1IV. As a SONY A1/A9 photographer, I can appreciate the capabilities of the Xperia 1IV.
Reviews by photographers like Kohki, Jason Vong, Pierre L, Auxout etc all gave Xperia 1 IV the thumbs up. US "tech reviewers" tend to take an auto shot with the Xperia 1 IV and then compare and say post processing is nicer on Samsung S22 and IPhone... especially with those overexposed and artificially manipulated night shots... while NOT comparing the 20 fps AF AE of the Xperia 1 IV with the other phones...
US tech reviewer or whatever they call themselves are getting paid by tech company to give positive reviews, so when they did not get any money from Japan or Chinese they try to criticise the product, you can see that they will do biased compare test between two brand a lot. The most recent funniest thing I heard from them was that they said the sony's camera ui design is bad because they look like sony's alpha camera lol, I mean its called pro app and they make it for photographer to use hahaha. Another nonsense statement they say is that they can't see the different between 2k and 4k display which is BS.
I agree, or they're just "point and shoot" photographers and say the pro app is hard work, but that if you know what you're doing you can get good shots. Erm... that's exactly the point 🤦🏻♂️ I have been using Pixel phones for years and they were fairly good historically, but the 6 Pro has pushed me away with its over processing. So I'm looking forward to my Xperia arriving in a few days (I'm in the UK), so I have something I get good results with when I don't have my Canon mirrorless cameras with me
@@Kohki Dearest, we are a few guys using Sony devices and after buying from Europe the XQ-CT54 device we have tested in many ways and the results are such crap. I really wanted to attach the results here, but YT limitation don't allow. 1. After a few seconds in direct sunlight and heat, the camera stops. It's an issue from Z series long ago. It's 1400 euros ~ 1600 dollars, it's an inexcusable flaw. 2. The Basic mode pixel handling looks worse like in XA models, being obsolete with such grain noise that even at 600 dollars device we don't find anymore in any smart device. 3. Bokeh mode is crap, grain noise everywhere, pixels are bad in processing and worse not even a trace in photo nor video dynamic range. Simply an XA camera processing with bad subject separation. 4. No stabilization, at least by software, for telephoto. Dearest, if you're being closer to Japan's engineering of its software processing send these issues there by an email, because any attempt to show the issues in Customer Support it's filtered by careless people and issues ignored! This device is at most 600 dollars for its software improvements for now, same for older devices from Xperia 1 and it's such a worse buy for many die hard fans and curios users. Please send these to be upgraded in the next software for 1/5III and 1IV devices at least. Thank you in the name of all having these devices, wanting pure quality in camera creating!
@@lovemademan I'm in the UK. I find the image quality of the 85-125mm lens crap as well. No subject seperation that I've seen in other youtube vids and it's as though the telephoto lens has a poor AI softening around the edge. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong lol
@@themarksmanABP indeed, these pay vids are weirdly good compared to in hands device, and it's not an average user opinion. Kohki Yamaguchi is one of those who can prove the issues and help users get to Sony engineers to understand the issues. Seems that this device was never tested and designed by wrong people! Please make these to be heard, it's for real, and it's an embarrassment to its price what should've been 600 euros at most!
Sony is doing such a great job developing their camera system. It's a unique approach and thus a unique experience using an Xperia phone. Sony is really getting closer to melding their Alpha cameras with their Xperia phones. I genuinely believe that in a generation or two (mark v or mark vi) that Sony is going to have one hell of a camera system on their phones.
Great Work Man!!! I am astonished by the picture quality and the natural bokeh this mobile camera provides. The slo-mo shot at 6:50 took my breath away 😍👌. Keep it up!
Hi Kohki, a quick question. Have you been printing out pictures taken with this or the M3 version and if so what is the quality of it and how large of a print was it? Thanks and keep up the good work👍
I have 2 questions as someone who hasn't ever seen the pro-I and of course the 1 IV in person. How does the 1 IV perform in terms of noise levels since it has a smaller sensor than the pro-I? Is there a significant difference in extreme situations between the pro-I and the 1 IV (low light and such)? And how does the dynamic range of the 1 IV compare to other, more consumer-focused devices? Thank you for your insight, it's immensely useful having the word of professional artists such as yourself on products like this.
That’s a good question. I do want to say that no smartphone I’ve ever come across has had a greater image quality than the PRO-I. Of course you’re paying for it as well but you do get what you pay for. The 1IV performs really well in dark environments. Even the 1III does too. I have a field review of that as well from last year. Dynamic range is much improved on the IV as well. But I don’t think it’s either better or worse by a whole lot compared to some top competitors. The pro that all Xperia has is the natural color reproduction which makes the HDR shots more realistic and true to life. Hope this helps!
@@jedcutler7255 If you want image quality the pro i is the right choice, but if you want video quality the MK IV because of 4k 120fps on all lenses and has a much better telephoto lens which makes the mk IV more versatile, So both have their own advantages, you have to choose according to your needs
Thanks for watching! I think it’s very situational! Very hard to decide haha, if I shoot mostly on wide at 24mm I will bring the PRO-I and if I need a 85-125mm and a 12mp front camera, I would bring the IV 😂
I'm really interested in the Sony Xperia line up of smartphones. In your opinion do you think the Xperia 1 Iv is a must have over the 1 III? The Xperia 1 III is on sale at the moment and I want to scoop it up. Great video as always your photography and videography are on point.
Awesome first impressions! Would you consider making a video on how to grade Xperia HDR videos and export them to SDR like yours? I want to take advantage of the HDR but I am overwhelmed by all the different formats etc.
Thank you! It’s actually super easy tho, for all my RU-vid stuff I just add a lut and adjust. Nothing crazy. If you shoot in HDR you just need to bring the highlights way down and make sure it’s not peaking. It might seem overwhelming but all you need is to go out for a few hours and shoot. You’d get it in no time
@@Kohki Thanks Kohki. I think I'm overwhelmed with all the initial project settings, then the export settings. I'm familiar with photo editing on PS/LR but the UI on Premiere/DaVinci looks entirely different to me 😨
@@ES-qy2ju Thanks ES. Looks like I'll have to watch some tutorials on davinci. For now I'm guessing HLG is a Sony thing? Is there only 1 type of HLG? and is BT.709 a SD format I want to covert to?

Greetings from Barcelona Kohki! I'm a proud user of Sony Xperia 1 III, and I'm really happy with it. But what's is your opinion comparing both terminals? Do you think I would notice the change from a phone like the 1 mark 3 to the new generation? Perhaps we should wait for future generations to justify a renewal of the phone?
I think if you already have a 1 III then you don't need to upgrade (unless you REALLy want to try the new camera tech). Many people are still happily using their 1 II and III.
Hm, actually videos without artificial intelligence editing looks better, no extra over sharpening and no extreme HDR.. other brand trying to brighter the dark area and pop some minor details. Its look good but no longer natural
I really like this phone. Unfortunately its not available in the USA until Sept 1st. This is a big mistake since Google and Apple will be launching around then too. Why pre-order early when you can see what the competition does. They are releasing this phone in June in the UK why not everywhere? Id but one right now buy im not going to wait 4 months to get it
Ahh that's a fair point. It could be some legal issues tho, no idea why haha, I do think its hard to beat Sony at this point. I never look elsewhere for my photo/videography needs. Of course besides film photography. But yeah, the release dates are all so strange lol
I like the 4k OLED hd screen of the Xperia 1 series which gives a sharp and crystal clear view screen when using it as an external monitor for my action camera, all thanks to Sony years of experience in display production.
Does this new phone come with a stock time lapse feature? Last I checked Xperia phones don't have this. If not is there a time lapse app you would recommend for this device?
So now that you're done with the review, will it stay in your pocket and become your every day phone? I always have my camera in my hand so I don't really care all that much about phone camera, but there are definitely times I'd be glad to have better phone camera.
Well it has been for the past month. But I do switch between the 1IV and Pro-I right now haha I think it depends on what you shoot most, if you shoot mostly wide like 24mm the pro-I has the advantage with that sensor size. But if you need a tele with that optical zoom the IV for sure 👍🏼
Ohh nice! congrats on the purchase! I think you shouldn't buy the IV if you just got the PRO-I last month. Unless you REALLY need the 85-125mm. I love my PRO-I and I switch it between the IV now but when im sure I don't need 85-125mm I carry my PRO-I since that 1-inch sensor is still mind-blowing and fun to shoot as well.
Thanks for watching! The 85-125mm is really nice, it’s also lighter than the pro-I. The IV also has a 12megapixel front camera which can be great to some people as well. But it’s if you use a tele a lot or not. If you don’t and you shoot mostly on 24mm, 50mm at most I would go for the PRO-I.
Thank you. Both phones are so good, it literally just comes down to the camera. Difficult choice, but Im leaning towards the IV. If you dont mind, just another question. What dock were you using with the phone on your desk? Thanks.
It’s a different phone for sure. The pro I has bigger sensor for 24mm so you won’t get a better camera on any smartphone than that as of now. But the IV has the 85-125mm which is an upgrade if you shoot tele. Also with that 12mp front camera some could say it’s an upgrade 👍🏼
Absolutely BRILLIANT. Sony is really pushing, I just wish they had more market share. I'm not going to rely on a cellphone for my daily photography or videos, but having a tool like this, that I can truly trust, it's amazing. They're the only brand I trust, and where I lived last year, there was no official way to buy a Sony phone. Ended up buying a Motorola and I utterly hated it. Right now, I'm in Italy, and it seems like Sony doesn't have any presence with cellphone companies. Anyone knows where I can buy the cellphone with ANY company?
Hi, Salutation from France. I currently have the 1 II and I was wondering if the telephoto captor is a sony one, because the one in the 1 II is not and the overall quality and color is deceiving. Thanks in advance, love your content
No mencionaste nada sobre que de todo esos modos apenas los podrás usar unos minutos si no está muy frio el ambiente, ya que ese smartphone Hierve en mano y se cierran las apps. IMPARCIAL.
That phone can record 4k@120fps RU-vid supports 4k@60fps (8k@60fps too), but you can also smuggle a real 120fps video (slow down 120fps video by 2x, then ask viewers to speed it up by 2x) This video is 4k@30fps. Why? Why do you cut corners?
Well most people have one too many cables and chargers. It’s bad for the environment if it doesn’t get used as it will eventually got to waste. I have so many cables now that I would pay to get rid of.
@@drakegao816 Yeah I think it definitely benefits the companies by not adding them in, and they know we all still buy them so they do have the upper hand. I personally don't mind it but I could see some might want a cable and charger brick in the package.
@@Kohki another topic. Could you make a video tutorial about the one shot you did in your other video at your convenience. It was when you had an object in focus while planning the camera using Xperia Pro-I for a texi in Tokyo I think. I still can't make it work. Thanks.
Also, Sony is slowly removing all features. Like double touch on Xperia 1 was on physical device, but now it is only on on screen software, Sony File app removed, Sony Album app removed....
