This is some of the most close to natural looking photos I've seen from a smartphone. Picture from the iphone and samsung are just too overprocessed for my taste. Also have to hand it to sony for keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack and the sd card slot✨
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is not too far either. I have been using it for a week now. It is just insane, the only problem is when you take photos of people, the color is a little unreal.
@@techshakalaka Eh, Xiaomi tends to alter colors quite a bit. They rely on "warm" photos a lot. They're still doing much better than Samsung though, their phones are still dumpster fires.
Iphone, samsung and all other china phone has fake garbage AI result which makes me really hate them. Only Nokia and Sony able to produce photos and videos close to real life because they use real technique for their imaging device instead of using fake instagram or tiktok cringe filter like in xiaomi, oppo, vivo and any other china garbage phone.
I am glad that Sony is keeping the bokeh mode separate. It looks goofy on most phones because it's a phone and not a real camera. I think Sony is doing a good job at remembering their target customer is comprised of creators that would rather use their Alpha camera to get bokeh that looks real. Sony is setting their own rules the same way they wrote the book on mirrorless cameras. Love my Xperia 1III and my A1. Time for an upgrade.😊
Crop factors will always mobile solutions not the same or the physical constraints of a package will give different results. Although for a mobile solution that can also be used a field monitor with colour accuracy tools. How many other mobile phones come with camera centric feature like peaking, zebra, false color maps. The features are clearly not aimed at casual users
OMG😱 if that is auto mode. What about pro mode i think xperia now is taking over the market i love it much coz picture are looks like a real camera even in harsh condition
Sony has always come through for me in the camera department. Been using Xperia products since the Xperia Z3V. Currently on the 1 mark III. This new phone is no slouch. I use a mix of manual and auto mode. Manual can give you incredible results. Shame you mostly did auto
I think most people are familiar with sonys pro modes which shoot incredible images. Its been the auto mode which has been lacking, hence showcasing the improvement in that department.
no the phone should produce good results in auto mode, or it´s crap. Most people want a phone that takes good pictures fast and esay, so auto mode is what you should use in videos like this so people know what kind of results they get if they buy this phone. If i wanted to fiddle around with manual mode i would use a real camera. Good it have manula mode.
@@PeterEk31 and this phone isn't just for those people. The phone does take good pictures in auto mode. They may not be what you specifically think is good. I am saying on any phone, manual mode can get you better results than the computational auto mode. There's a reason this is considered a niche phone. It isn't for the casuals to use Most people is the key to your argument. This isnt for most people
The amount of detail and the accuracy of the colors with reality is insane, not even Samsung or Apple come close when it comes to color accuracy, now with this Xperia I’m seriously thinking of switching from 14 pro max to Xperia 1 V
But sadly horrible handling with flares in video, and video low light wasn´t as good as it should be. It had big problems with the sun and light from lamps.
@@hazza_007 Art of Visuals has a pretty comprehensive direct comparison of the 1 V with the 14 Pro Max mounted side by side don't know if a link will post so I'll stick it in the 2nd post
Wow they’ve really improved the dynamic range, noise reduction, and low light performance! The photos and videos look amazing and natural for a phone camera!!
It always amazes me. On YT i read so many positive comments, praising Xperia's photo capabilities, whereas reviews and comments on the net/web , say something completely different.
Amazing photos, natural colors, I like the video recording! Expensive? Maybe, but after all it's a Sony. I have a Sony Experia 5, for now it's good enough. Thanks for the video!
In a world where the Oppo Find x6 Pro, Xiaomi 13 Ultra and Vivo x90 Pro Plus exist, I wished Sony had dreamed just a little bigger on at least the ultra wide lens. However, it's such a blast to see this new 52mp sensor in action and Sony bend just a little to the computational processing race. Their version is still tastefully done. Don't showed that they have been listening as well by allowing the camera UI to rotate depending on orientation and finally gave us focus peaking. Video capture and manual controls are unmatched.
Agreed. Sony should have been using the main sensor of the previous generation for the ultrawide in the mark 5. And perhaps also for the telephoto. That would have been something.... But still; the ultrawide isn't bad, but thinking of all the sensors Sony have available, it's a little disappointing. I also must say that the photos from the telephoto lens looks a lot better and sharper than on the mark 4.
Sony usually stays true to life and I love that about them. It isn't over contrasty eye pleasing social media ready that everyone seems to love. And night shots aren't night to day like everyone else is doing, and you still get lots of detail. Can't wait to see how it holds up against other devices
First of all this a preproduction unit and there are some solvable problems. The overall look of the photos looks amazing to me.This is by far the best smartphone Sony ever made.
Great shots to get a good impression. You can get rid of the pulsing in video at low light by turning off stabilization (provided you can do without). Most flagship phones have this issue unfortunately.
I have a big collection of Sony Ericsson, been using them for years and now some the Xperias also like xz premium, Xz2, xz1 compact, Xz2 6gb ram version. But I have some samsungs too s10+ and note10+, both snapdragon versions! I've returned the Xperia 1 mark 3 because of the crazy overheating.. And I press skip on the Xperia 1 mark iv because of the same problem! Been waiting for this one for years! I'll lurk for a better price and grab it! I don't need the pre-order + those headphones, I already have some great ones from Sony! This and the Xperia 5 mark 5 will be legendary phones! 💪 🍻 🎊 🇷🇴
Give us comparison with pixel 7 pro iPhone 14 pro max, s23ultra, and mi 13 ultra and plz try to show different btn auto and manual in xperia 1 v with that phones plz
@@elisha7631 it's weird reviewing a product and not going detailed into what is made for lol. It's like reviewing a muscle car and all you are focusing on is the leather seats
First of all. I am a big Sony Xperia guy. Been using sony phones since 2005. Currently using Xperia 1II since 2020. I have to say yes the main cam and ultrawide are really good and top notch. But My god what an utterly underwhelming performance from the zoom camera!! Especially 5.2x. very inconsistent in sharpness as it seems software sharpness doesn't kick in most of the time and the other times it seems someone put butter all over the zoom lens. Very hazy and soft images. Same in videos as well. I hope they make this much better in the Xperia 1VI.
After a terrible 2022 for Sony, I am not sure this or their other phones will spark a recovery. Chinese phones have superior hardware in their ultra-wide and zoom, and Apple and Samsung have much better AI. It takes a lot of work to recommend this at this price, especially with their update policy. A hardcore Sony fanbase will praise Sony for whatever they do or charge, and this is where it will have to sell. It is reaching that eureka moment when Sony may rethink their smartphone business and call it quits. This model has not delayed the inevitable, sadly.
thanks for the video. a few questions: 1. which mode were you using for these shots? basic mode, auto mode, or one of the more advanced modes (P, S, M)? 2. were these all jpgs straight out of camera? did you do any shooting in raw (and post in something like lightroom)? 3. With a lot of night modes, you have to hold the camera fairly steady as it takes the multiple shots. did you feel like you had to have a steady hand to prevent motion blur?
Everything was captured in Basic Mode as regular jpg files with no edits. The auto night mode shows a circular animation on the screen for the longer exposures. I didn't treat it any differently than any other device.
Myself, I'm not a fan of depth of field effects. When I take a picture of a location, it is usually for a special occasion and I want to capture everything in as good of detail as possible. I understand it is to try to simulate real life eyes looking at a subject but your eyes will already do that anyway looking at a specific subject in an image. Hopefully the Xperia 1 V has settings to let you turn off depth of field and try to keep everything as clear as possible.
It's really sad that they don't have a 50mm lens equivalate in this phone, instead they have 24mm and 85mm to 135mm which are good but not for portrait shots, for portrait you will always like a 50mm lens its the most versatile, the 85mm is good also for portrait shots but not versatile as you need to be soo far from the subject to take a close up shot anyways. So this could be a reason that I will not take the phone since I take a lot of portrait photos.
I'm trying to find somebody I watched yesterday as he was making a big deal about all cameras being 4K/60 but can't find it maybe I just watched too much 😂, nice vid though imagine the quality of you explored the main reason for buying one the manual modes 💪
Been waiting for your review. Thanks! Do you know how many years OS updates or security updates it offers? What network were you using? I Have Cricket wireless which is basically AT&T. Lastly, if you could do some still picture comparison against the pixel 7 Pro to see the difference that would be great. I have the P7 Pro and was thinking about giving this one a try.
@@thatsalamebro-et8hb I never do contracts and buy all my phone unlocked indirectly through the company. All Sony is offering right now is a $50 gift card and free in earbuds.
Wow it to impressive for auto... Imagine when use in manual mode 😮 I hope someone make comparison in outo and manual mode with real Sony camera like rx100 siries 😀💪
The selfie camera at zoom camera (at 5.2x) seem to perform poorly, and phone seems to like to clip highlights. Why can't Sony catch up to the rest of the pack?
TBH, main camera produces incredible pictures with good colour reproduction, but ultrawide is really weak and telephoto/zoom is downright abysmal. Such a big contrast of quality. The main sensor must be really incredible, and I would really love to see it on devices made by Google or Vivo where it could complement some of that nice processing.
I was thinking the EXACT same thing. The ultrawide and especially the telephoto are borderline unacceptable. It's been a long time since I've seen such terrible photos and videos, especially in this price range.
Yeah, the ultrawide and telephoto sensors are the same since the, I believe, II line or something. This phone has the same telephoto and ultrawide sensors my 5 III does. They need to swap those out too, but the silver lining here is that the telephoto still offers the only true optical zoom range in the market I guess.
@@anecro It certainly is unique on the market, but the low quality of execution does move it into a category of spreadsheet specs, that look good on paper for the PR department, but are pretty much useless for the end consumer. + It kinda looks like those Zeiss lenses are only used for the main camera, as the image quality / clarity, dynamic range etc. are considerable worse on telephoto and ultrawide as well ... but that is just my theory 😋
I remember the Sony Ericsson Satio 12.2 mp camera it took the same video like this and pictures same like this no any difference after 15 years sony just stop where they left Ericsson behind they need to collaborate again to make some advance smartphones like they did before otherwise sony will loose his business in Cellphones😢
Is this a great phone to bring to a concert? Is the zoom great and does it take great low-light videos? Also, how much zoom does can 85-125mm lens give you?
Thanks a lot for your sharing. But the video part is too short, and with blur, shaking etc, especially during night, would you only test the night video with gimble, 4K 30FPS, 60 FPS, 120 FPS please? Many thanks.
Is it me or there's to much ghosting on the main camera? Also the video in both telephotos modes is lucking a lot right? I was waiting so long for this one and now I am reconsidering!!! I would really like to see some photos and videos in controlled environment!
@@phandroid I know that, but because of the "inconsistency" of the real world and the fact that the scene constantly changes, someone cannot see the actual performance of the camera sensor and optics! Also its not apples to apples with other camera systems on other smartphones! Thus you cannot compare and have the full picture.
Looking at this makes me missed getting an Xperia. Maybe I'll get one in a few years or so. I hope the sensor tech on the main can also be applied to thr ultrawide and telephoto. Then it'll be a complete package. Btw is there a notification LED on that phone? I heard a lot of conflicting discussions on that features being there or not. Hope to get clearance on for that.
There's no notification LED. Bummer. I love that on my 5 III. Sony could easily make up for it by creating an LED-like feature for the OLED screen, just lighting up a pixel on the top right or something. It's not hard theoretically.
i hope that they can use this new gen sensor on other focall length to with a little bigger sensor size i would be great if we have the sony lowlight cameras like the a7s series with a phone!
Sony needs to work on the video, because the photos are very good for me very natural not overprocessed like other smartphones but the videos in auto mode are still very bad
@@The-Heart-Will-Testify i could use manual setting lol, i learn about photography and videography from a long time, but having very good on both manual and auto its perfect, because the end of the day its still a phone, And no one is harmed if sony good on auto too right?
I am not too impressed. Some pictures are very good but a lot very soft. Also the sky is often blowned out. This camera and processor has a lot of potential. I think if you put pictures and videos side by side with iPhone 14 Pro or Samsung s23 Ultra, iPhone or Samsung will definitely come on top
It's pretty disappointing to be honest. The main camera seems alright, but the ultrawide and especially the telephoto are barely acceptable, especially considering the price of this device. Not only are the highlights clipped in most of the photos and videos, the image overall just lacks detail and looks very crunchy/noisy. I really want to like this phone, but the results are very underwhelming. There is no way im paying over 1000$ for a device with this unbalanced of a camera system.
@@Gary0557 That's such a disappointment. I really like the "idea" of these phones and the general look of the images (little to no post-processing, natural colors etc.), but at this price point the competition is just way ahead.
The problem with these phones are they are a niche products. This is the 5th generation of these phones and no one buys them. People just want to pick their phones up and take a pictures. There's dozens of phones out there that take better pictures than Sony. And the funny thing is, not 1 content creator that does phone reviews use this phone as their daily drivers. That should tell you these phones aren't great. And if you dont beleive me DXOMARK ranks cameras and smartphones, theres not a sony phone in the top 50. Don't get mad at me. Its fact. Its ok if your a sony fan, but dont say they got the best photography.
Low light isnt even close to the competition. It has imrpoved over previous generation but definitely nowhere near what samsung, iphone and Pixel are at
The image quality of the telephoto is absolutely disastrous. Photos and videos are overexposed, very noisy and lack detail. It also seems like the phone is struggling to focus while taking videos on the telephoto lens. The ultrawide is barely any better. The main lens is the only one that delivers pleasant results, but lens flare is terrible across the board. I was really looking forward to the release of this phone, especially because of its camera. The results, however, are very disappointing.
@@The-Heart-Will-Testify Some of it sure is, but not all of it, i.e. the lens flare and focus hunting, as well as the general lack of detail. I'd really love to see how you would go about solving any of these issues. Don't get me wrong, I agree that the user greatly influences the results you get from a camera. But there are certain things you simply cannot compensate for.
The Xiaomi 13 Ultra has a larger imaging sensor for all the cameras on the back of the phone. It should take better pictures. Also, Xiaomi is much better at computational photography than Sony is.
I don't think even a mid-range smartphone obtains such disappointing results... the photos and videos have a really strange texture, they look like degraded images, bad HDR management, in short, a total disappointment.
