Cheers for watching my unboxing of this Sony mid-ranger, reeeeeeeeally hoping that Xperia 1 III will be landing at Tech Spurt Towers soon. And thanks for your questions, etc, hoping to review this wee beastie in a few days
Only hope that xiaomi will bring updated se series as sony don't really listen to own customers. Compact brought them pick of sales so they decided to make snake phones 😂
@@abu269 I was about to buy the 5ii, until they announced the 1iii. I really wish the 5iii also had a 4K display, I would definitely buy it over the 1iii.
@@UselessVoidBobo I know what you mean but the the screen is already very impressive on the 5ii as it is. The FHD+ has a crisp display with the 120htz refresh rate. I've compared it to the Galaxy S21 and find the Xperia display is better, especially with in Creator Mode. Either way, they are both great phones, can't go wrong with either device.
@@takenking2770 10 III, it has the better performance to run your everyday tasks better. The higher the number of the chipset is, typically means it’s better.
It's actually funny that they're just a few decimal points shy from using it seeing as phones like the latest OnePlus uses something like 20.75:9 or whatever.
Because that's not what Apple and Samsung are using. Every OEMs just follow what this top 2 are doing like if they remove something, they will also remove something. Add a punch hole / notch, they will also do that. Remove an accessory like headset or charger, the others will do it too. More cameras, same. The reason why Sony is going on 21:9 is because that's what they highlight for the Xperias. The cinematic experience of the screen, software and cameras.
I have an Xperia XA2 bought right about when it was launched (so getting close to 3.5 years of use now) and I've been looking at the 10 Mk III as a possible replacement. Reasons being are: I hate notches/punch hole screens, also I hate big phones and I don't need flagship specs because I'm not a heavy user. The 10 Mk III seems to be the only Android phone with decent specs that fits this bill, offers good value for money and isn't a full on phablet. It's still too big for my liking but I guess I have to make a compromise at some point. On my current contract at Orange I can get it at 338 euros which is a decent drop in cost from the standard price which is 406 euros in my country. There's always the option of waiting for a black friday/ christmas sale and get it even cheaper than that. Or wait until Mk IV comes out next year as my XA2 somehow refuses to die out haha. Phone looks like a standard minimalistic Sony which should be fine for most folk that aren't power users but rather appreciate good build quality and longevity via good battery care (which Sony always delivers).
I've read so many Sony phone users here are still holding on to their old model. it's amazing to see people using a phone more than 2 years. I can only last 2 years as I also a loyal Sony phone user. my best Sony phone was m5 dual but I drop my phone a lot and the camera is broken. then I replace it with xa1, it was OK but the battery life is drained so quickly . and the latest one I got 10ii, hope it can last more than 2 years 😂 wishing you the best find a good Sony phone for you mate!
@@ryeofoatmeal Thanks. I hope to settle on a good phone as well. I had the XA1 previously. Decent phone but that Mediatek chipset was complete trash and the battery capacity was too small. I used it for about one year but it still works, we have it in the family as a backup phone! Before that I had the Z3 Compact, awesome compact phone but I broke the display on it, changed it, gave it to my girlfriend then she also broke the display lol. My dad used a Z1 Compact for almost 6 years with a single battery change, also have some friends who are also tech enthusiasts and had Sony phones, be either Z1, Z5, Z5 compact, XZ1 etc. The one constant denominator in the Sony devices seems to be longevity. Heck, I still have an Xperia Neo from 2011 (my first Android phone) which still boots up but I don't have a SIM card for it anymore and it needs one to get past the initial lock screen. I gotta get one soon and make it fit out of simple curiosity, to see if the phone still functions once everything loads.
Ah yeah and i am sitting here with Samsung Galaxy S8 which i got after my Xperia Z1 compact. The S8 is 3 years old now and the battery dies midday and the software after update is just horrible, inefficient, looks like some chinese generic design and uh its unstable, restarts randomly, some apps crash and weird stuff happens. Idk it was overbloated mess to begin with, just the tech was really nice back then. But yeh i don't want anything else than Sony anymore, i am patiently waiting for Xperia 5 III to replace my S8.
Very similar here with a 4,5 year old X compact, which is still doing pretty ok. Mostly interested in the Xperia 10 III because of the audio extras, big-ish battery, IP68 and a sort of acceptable size.
I'd like to see Sony release a new Xperia Play phone. Mobile gaming has evolved since the release of the original Xperia Play and will definitely give the opportunity for Sony to truly utilise remote play and even PlayStation Now gaming on the go.
That is true, though not many Android games utilise those controls, or even support for a controller. More do now compared to then, but still not enough to warrant another Xperia Play effort.
@@jaypunzalan6999 It doesn't have the stupid punch hole front facing camera design which makes the design better than the nord. Though if the oneplus phones didn't have the stupid punch hole id go for the oneplus.
@@Nevermore093 come on, xperia 10 iii doesnt deserve a $549 tag price lets be real theres a better market out there, Id better buy a 5G phone for less than a $300
I have the 5ii and it is a shit! Stay away... Things that nobady will tell you: - Sony's smartphone have a very low flashlight (unusable), this does not make exceptions - the case of the phone strongly vibrates when the volume is greater than 50%. This became frustrating in few minutes. (note that I disabled sony's dynamic vibration) - whites turn to light green just tilting a bit the phone. - icons and chars due to the 21:1 are very small... If you increase them reverting will appear weird. - android has very low customization options. In other word either iPhone or Chinese phone... No other choise is possible. I am so angry with Sony!
@@alessandro6589 I have the 5 mark II, and it's literally the greatest phone I have ever tested. I have experienced almost none of these issues on mine. "whites turn to light green just tilting a bit the phone." Have you set the display to creator mode? "the case of the phone strongly vibrates when the volume is greater than 50%. This became frustrating in few minutes. (note that I disabled sony's dynamic vibration)" Welcome to having decent speakers in the phone, if you want good sound, that's a consequence, and I have not even noticed it. "icons and chars due to the 21:1 are very small... If you increase them reverting will appear weird." Well, you did just buy a compact sized smartphone, it's not a tablet. "android has very low customization options." I have not found anything I wanted to customize which i couldn't. Flashligh, OK, not the greatest, but, I don't buy a phone to use it as a flashlight. I think, you have chosen the wrong phone for yourself and that the frustration of it not being right for you has made you nitpick things that are not issues.
@@alessandro6589 hmm. all those things don't seem like hardcore deal breakers. - low flashlight? we usually have electricity so I don't use my phone's flashlight often. flash when taking pics? don't really do that. were you expecting car headlights for a phone flashlight? - doesn't seem like a problem. do you keep your phone playing 100% volume 24/7? - why are you tilting your phone? do you usually use your phone while looking at it not directly? - I have a Samsung Galaxy S9. I used it with the lowest zoom with smallest icons and font available. I don't think I'll have problems with icon & font sizes until I'm like 90 - wow. Android has LOW customization options? huh. maybe you should see the other OS.
@@VinnesRC lol I always laugh at people who complain about color shifting when viewing screens at off angles as if that's how they're gonna view their phone screens all day
I am still using a Sony XZ Premium, the battery tech has kept it going for over 4yrs and it is just now starting to get low on battery by the end of the day.Looking at your Sony reviews I might go for the 5 ll as a replacement.
Really wish Sony would get on the face unlock bandwagon. They're pretty much the only manufacturer that doesn't offer it now and ironically they're the only android phone that has space above the screen to do proper 3d face unlock.
Sony exclusively made Apple face id. Apple and SONY has good rapport, due to the late Steve Jobs, who is a big SONY fan. LiDar, Face Time also made by SONY exclusively for Apple. Even Apple first laptop was designed and made by SONY. That's how close is SONY and Apple.
@@lovemademan I've been owning this LG G6 of mine for 4+ years. I was looking for a long lasting mid-range/flagship under 500 euros. The Xperia 5 II caught my attention the most, but they are still expensive for me. Now, I don't know if the 10III would be a good challenger, but thanks for the answer ❤
@@omnigod666 I have Z3 tablet compact, Z3+, even Xa1 models still workin! They were great, but from 2019 Xperia line is much more upgraded in every aspect. Still hidden qualities that are not for any new in town, but these devices are best compared with any other mark. Glad to help!
@@lovemademan Moreover Sony guarantees the battery integrity for 3 yrs. Cameras are very good, idem battery, NO NOTCH (in my opinion the notch is an annoying feature), ecc.
great review as always but I think the price is a little high especially when it comes with a 7watt charger and a 690 chip and no screen protector or case
@@amaljoe367 maybe so it comes with a better chipset and more ram i used to be a big fan of sony I had many of their phones but they lost their mojo they need to go back to there roots and make really good phones for a good price
It is quite disappointing the Always-On-Display isn't available on this phone considering my old one does have it. I really hope that Sony to update it in the future.
I am still looking for a successor for my xz2 compact. I thought the 10 iii could be it. But actually i doubt it. Xz2 compact still runs pretty smooth with the snap 845. Also i have the feeling that the 690 5g is slower :( maybe i have to consider the 5 iii...
xz2 was flagship, so your successor should be a flagship too, 10 iii is mid-range. And yes maybe you're right the 5 iii could be the answer as it is the slightly compact version of 1 iii. Edit: should be noted 5 iii is a downgrade of features too from the 1 iii, i.e less RAM, no TOF 3D module, no 4k 60fps screen etc.
@@PhazeyBlur 4K 120fps* screen on the 1 III. But those are not deal breakers, I would say, and 8GB RAM is still more than enough for a phone. Plus the smaller screen/resolution means a better battery life.
@@PhazeyBlur you made me to rethink. Im also using xz2 compact, and planning to get 10 iii, im not gamer hence im not to jumpy with processor and the camera is overkill to my simple needs hahaha, im thinking 5 ii but still pricey as of writing. The only reason i like sony is form slim factor and ip65 rating My xz2 compact for almost 3yrs now, having sign of giving up, the battery now is bloated pushing the screen. Hahaha
Good evening Sir, l have been watching your reviews on the latest and best smartphones to date. Recently you did a review on the Sony 10 111 and true to form on the said smartphone, l was face with the same issue of large black splurge marks across video playbacks where the video was shot in low lighting, Kate Bush: Sensual World. Annoyed, l went into the settings found its colour correction, then switch the handset onto tritanomaly and lastly move the brightness level up to halfway, which seems to correct those large black oily looking marks appearing on videos shoot in low lighting. Great phone from CEX at £210. Keep up the good work. Glen from Watford, Hertfordshire
Pre-ordered mine 2 weeks ago. HYPED! Only thing I'm a little bothered about is the charging speeds. Although the battery tech seems to be great and should easily last a day (or more), the thought of forgetting to plug in at night is scary.
@@paulgal All major phone brands are overpriced except for cheap Chinese copies that spy on you. At least the Sony Xperia 1 III offers new shit that no one has like 4k 120 hz OLED display, variable telephoto lens, 4k HDR 120 fps recording, etc. AND there's no ugly notch or punch hole, and it has front firing stereo speakers, sd card slot, headphone jack, and bypass charging 💪
@@jaypunzalan6999 oneplus nord ce 5g is what the original oneplus nord phones should have been. The main difference between Sonys efforts and Oneplus is cameras and water resistance, the chipset too but Sony have a better camera, water resistance and build is better
Not if you want IP68 water resistance. But that's because it's literally the only phone in it's class which has it. And maybe if you don't want a flashy phone, like every new phone now looks flashy. Meanwhile Sony is doing Sony, that's what I like the most about Sony smartphones. And if you want the form factor and great performance, there's the 5 mark III when it releases.
I prefer mono speaker, you can manipulate the sound using one hand. It actually makes a lot more logical sense than stereo. If I want stereo, I do the smart thing and plug / wireless the device to something that is bigger and sounds amazng. People's obsessions with phone specs are actually quite stupid.
Hi Chris, on low brightness does your 10iii have green/grey tint issues? It's really noticeable at night, and seems to be happening to a number of people. Still a great phone, hoping it's a software issue that can be fixed 😅
How is the screen brightness on Sony's 10 III as according to some reviewers that is a weakness? Hope you're enjoying the phone. I chose Samsung's A52 5G as it was a great buy thanks to added discounts. Hope that tint issue gets sorted or be sure to badger Sony so it can get fixed.
@@jlc973 Aside from the screen brightness issue, I like it a lot. If it can't get it fixed will probably consider other experias as I like the unique slim design. There's been some good phone models that are a better bargain, but really like Sony's phone design 😅
The PlayStation app is a massive convince. Used it on all my phones. Also, I had no idea there was a new Garbage album out. Will definitely have to look it up.
Nice to see that Sony haven't succumbed, on most of their phones, at least to notch-itis. For me, those screens, look so much nicer, give me a bezel, any day of the week!
And all the other phone out there are having a broken display. Name one with perfect screen without cutout and cutoff rounded corners. None, except Sony.
Sony Phone needs to come back to India. My favorite cell phone is Sony. My brother bought a Sony z1 phone in 2013 and I liked it so much that I also wanted to buy a Sony phone during my college days but recently Sony is not coming to India much. Sony will later sell its best phones in India.
I don't know why but I like this phone despite the fact that there are better devices in this pricerange. Soon I have to get a new phone but still can't decide whether to buy this or the pixel 4a.. Any suggestions?
Not so much talking about DSEE Ultimate with 3.5mm jack. I believe one who buy this phone expect to use it as music player (with 1TB microSD) rather than how good of its camera.
Plz can you guide from which store you bought the phone? I have been hunting but is not available I live in Middle East & sony phones are discontinued in ME... I want to buy this online
