Watching this now a few months after buying the zv-e1 myself since I haven't seen anyone do wildlife anything with it. Good job getting a video out that's different than everyone else!
Curious to hear your thoughts 1yr on Ollie! Would you still recommend this camera? Have you used it as much as you thought your would? I have an A7IV as well, complemented by smaller Fuji gear, but I’m contemplating selling the Fuji gear and going all in on Sony after really enjoying the A7IV. Thanks for your thoughts!
Great to see you preview this camera with wildlife filming use in mind. I was wondering if the new stabilization allows for handheld filming with the 100-400 or even the 200-600? Right now I find it very hard to get stable footage at greater zoom lengths handheld with my A7IV.
Nice. I use the zcam e2m4 for the reasons you put out here. Great lowlight at iso 51200, and 4k 160p slow motion. My ideal wildlife camera. The mft sensor also crops 2x, which is great paired with telephoto lenses.
Ahh, thanks for this. I am tempted. Like you, a keen wildlife/bird photographer, but want to experiment with making videos of our trips and am tempted by the ZV-E1 to provide background (B roll) material and also, to capture some wildlife video (when they co-operate!). The ability to use all my lenses is really a positive. And, the low light performance is amazing!. This was a really useful video!
1) ZVE1 is really just a tad better in low light.. 2) 12MP means I cannot enter APS-C mode, and 3) if you enable dynamic stab it crops 1.4 times making it more like a 2.7K video camera..
Will you be satisfied with the quality of your photos if you use a different lens? Or is it really not a photography cam regardless of the lens? Thanks for this review.
One thing in common with all the videos of people praising this camera are they are wearing fall/winter gear and are never outside in warm weather. The camera overheats way too fast to the point of being useless for wedding videography AFAIK.
Hello! I was just doing some researching on good lenses to use for vlogging hunting and wildlife... I came across this video and was wowed by the intro! I see you said you used the the Sony 20mm 1.8 for the aurora lights shots, but were you using the same lens for the moose and other animal shots? Thanks!
Hey Ollie, loved the video mate! Just curious if you had to choose between the ZV-E1 and the Sony A7cii which would you choose? Obviously the ZE-V1 is better in low light but I imagine the a7cii still does excellent video, has the same Ai chip and would take better stills. Currently trying to choose between the fx30, ZE-v1 and a7cii for cinematic short films, record long podcasts and perform a small bit of vlogging in a pretty rugged environment weather-wise. But I’d love something that can also shoot somewhat decent stills (I don’t need burst mode, single shot is fine). Anyways keen to hear your thoughts… Cheers mate!
Hey man! That’s a good question. I think all of the above are amazing cameras. But if you’re thinking of taking even some photos with the camera, I’d go with the A7C II. 🙏🏻
Hey Ollie, what do u do when this, Artificial Intelligence Overheating Wunderkind, overheats and shuts down in the middle of a BIF-Birds-In-Flight shoot? I guess, one could just put it in a sling-shot and sling it upwards and hope for the best. Maybe, it would cool down, catch some more video before it crashes down on the ground. I luv it how some of these camera companies expect us to be their consumer beta testers. lol 😎😎
I'm beginner at this, just curious how did you get such clear image at 100k iso? That's amazing and crazy! Did you reduce the noise in post or the sensor is really that good?lol
THanks for the review! Did you use Sony 20mm 1.8 G for the northern lights? I was actually expecting it to do better... but as you said, it IS very hard.
@@ollenilssonen no problem. He also suggested a clever idea of mapping the zoom rocker to the clear image zoom. Which is fantastic if the subject/eye detection holds true because you practically get a 1.5 zoom out of any of your lenses for free without any drawbacks
I am torn between the zv and the s3. I own the zv1 and its amazing but I need something more professional for recording shows and raves as well as talking head interviews. wonder what the future has in store for me.
I have a Sony a1, thinking having photography and video at the tops. But what I find is that the weight of it on a gimbal and the weight in general is leading me to have 2 cameras - one for video and for photography. I too like the mechanical part of a camera and would want that for photography, but for video less concern for that.
Thanks Olle for this top ZVEV1 test 💪🏼 I am looking for a small b-cam for my Fx6 🎥 I am not sure fx30 or zve1 🫤 I do not earn money with filmmaking, I only want to realize my own non profit projects 😉 do you think I can match up the zve1 with the Fx6 in slog3? For sure, or? Best cinematic greetings from germany
When they add 4k 120p I wonder how the SD card will handle that? It might still be ok for short clips of birds and wildlife but its hot for most of the year where I live
I just got a notice from B&H store about this camera coming out soon. I love that I am able to watch this review before even thing about buying. All my lenses are e mounts will they work with this camera?
Excelent job olle! You’re doing a great work! I think I’m still prefer the fx30 because it’s more a cinematography camera and you can do vlog too (adding the extra reach with the crop sensor) of corse you loose the advantage from the sensor of the zve1. Keep doing a great job!
@@stevemuzak8526 is it. I heard it overheats. Also it doesn't have Cine EI. No dual sdcards cfxpress. So expensive for what it is. I think FX30 is way better.
so, I know this video was made BEFORE the 4k 120p was available, it turns out, there "is" a little bit of crop, but that's actually a bonus for us wildlife folks ☺
Update.. I’m replacing the ZVE1 with an A7S3. One reason.. i cannot see anything on the screen in even modest daylight. For wildlife through a long lens, a viewfinder is important. Also, the eye to viewfinder gives another stability point when panning moving animals. Ah well. At least the store is refunding me in full.
jag kör med nikon men ditt intro fångade mig att se hela videon, trotts att jag antaligen aldrig kommer byta till Sonny av ekonomiska skäl nu :D Snyggt gjord video !! =)
Great Video. I like your Videos a lot :-) The Sony ZV-E1 looks like a very nice video camera with great features and a nice form factor. I hope the 4K120p will come for this cam. My biggest issue with this thing is that it have no full size HDMI. It will make the use of an external monitor very hard. Unfortunately this is a no go for me :-(
What are base iso's on the a7iv? Does the base iso only affect slog 3 or does it also apply to s-cinetone and the other profiles? One of my fav channels this
Hello. I'm looking for my first camera and for now I'm probably thinking of buying a ZV-E1. I noticed in your video these shots 13:17, 13:20, 13:22, 13:39. Were they filmed with a ZV-E1 or...? I ask coz they look flat and non-cinematic to me, unlike 06:55 and 07:46 (this one is fkn awesome) and what lenses they were it shot on?
at least one good review for the zv-e1 with proof, shit haha Thanks men. I was searching for how could i switch between modes, if there is inside the menu... sad but 2000e less
