Great video - quick note - the ZV-E10 operates as a crop sensor which is 1.5 times the focal length for full frame equivalent. So the kit lens of 16-50 is actually 24-75 in full frame terms. The ZV1 has a 9.4mm - 25.7mm focal length, so in full frame field of view it is 24mm- 70 (the crop factor on the 1 inch sensor is 2.73 times). So if you want to compare the 24mm on the ZV1 - you would use the 16mm focal length on the ZV-E10. (16mm x 1.5 = 24mm).
@thefilmalliance
@thefilmalliance 2 года назад
Thank you for explaining that. I was baffled why 24mm on the E10 was not matching the ZV-1. Wow. You are so smart. Thank you so much

the major difference between Zv 1 and Zv e10 is bigger sensor and interchangeable lenses, many people commented that having inter changeable lens is an advantage, but from a vloggers point of view it’s an hassle to carry around extra lenses and the fact that the Zv 1 fits in your pocket is really important when it comes to vloging. And also the fact that lenses are additional investments into the system, might even end up paying as much as the body for the lens Ps : I use an a7iii so getting a Zv 1 makes sense to me compared to the Zv e10 just cuz the portability

ZV-E10 wins for me. It’s just about the quick focusing and the wide sensor with the changeable lenses. Also it comes with its own grip which is more convenient to have on a camera + the ease of having your battery and SD card in and out without having to remove your gimbal or the aftermarket bracket for the zv-1
@Pharesm
@Pharesm 2 года назад
If that's going to be your only camera, I'd agree but remember, the widest lens for the ZV-E10 is 12mm, which ends up effectively at only 18.6mm. You can achieve the same on the ZV-1, which offsets the smaller sensor with a bright F1.8 Zeiss lens.
@Pharesm
@Pharesm 2 года назад
@Stay at Home Dad Well that price is due to "The Great Reset" causing supply shortages... it used to be ~900 with kit lens, though that lens isn't really worth the price. The new triplet of lenses from sony is pretty nice though...
@Pharesm
@Pharesm 2 года назад
@@hulu8022 How does that work? It will give you the full 12mm wide angle?
@Pharesm
@Pharesm 2 года назад
@@hulu8022 Thanks, I checked that out, but Speed boosters mess up your auto-focus, and make your image soft, so you're basically degrading your lens for the additional light and wider angle... Oh and I almost forgot: With the new SONY 11mm F1.8 prime lens, the problem has been minimized! If my math is right you end up with a 15.4mm wide angle at F1.8... That is very close to SONY's 14mm F1.8 on Full frame - I'll be extremely happy once they start shipping! I love time lapse landscape videos with the clouds rolling through the sky until night comes and beyond

I have the ZV-E10, I wanted the ability to change lenses. I think compared side by side, the E10 is the better camera. Some functions are so close that the average user won't even really notice the difference, but more skilled photographers/videographers will. Especially with the product showcase, there's a clear difference in the lag on the ZV-1. I think if you want something you can slide in your pocket and have the least fuss, the ZV-1 will suffice, but if you want more options in how you use it, the E10 is the better option. When I got mine, I immediately got the 16mm 2.8 at the same time because I knew for me 3.5 wasn't going to let in enough light in many situations I use it. I am also planning to add a couple other lenses like the 50mm 1.8 and a zoom for more options. This is my first move into a Sony body so there's a definite learning curve for the menus, but I am finding as I use it I am even more interested in getting a Sony full frame for my other photo and video work and move away from Nikon, which I've used for ages. Also, I might even grab a ZV-1 for times when I can't take a body with an interchangeable lens some place and that does happen, even with something as small as the E10.

Fantastic production! I'm excited to say this video, and a few of your others, helped me make decisions while buying my first camera!! I was torn between the ZV1 and the ZV-E10 but I settled on the ZV1 Here's why: I think the ZV1 has smoother image stabilization, built in ND filters (I shoot a lot of airplanes and they help smooth out the propellers), a collapsable lens for on the go security, and slightly better low light quality. My only hang up was, with these two cameras having a similar price point and almost the same quality, I thought the ZVE10 would allow me to upgrade lenses at a later date. Still stuck with the ZV1 Thanks for your time and effort, these videos are very well done! Best, Chels

I subscribed b/c your info is accurate and unbiased and very detailed. I bought a ZV1 b/c you recommended it and I'm very happy with it (set up according to one of your vids). Based on this review, I'm keeping it. The E-10 has more features but I don' t think I would really use them and the built-in ND filter (or lack of) is a show stopper. Gotta have that. I shot film for years and had to change mags every 10 minutes, so being able to shoot for an hour or so is great. I use a power supply most of the time anyway. I don't use the native audio on any camera (Tascam recorder--need XLRs).

@@thefilmalliance My first video camera was an RCA TK-41 (you'll have to Google it). It was so old, the station gave it to me when they retired it. It took two men to lift the monitor, and three to run the camera (one operator, one moving the pedestal around, and one to wrangle the cable that was as thick as your bicep). It needed 3 racks of equipment in the control room just to make a picture. The three IO tubes cost more than a house. The sides folded down so you could park your scope and Simpson meter there (it had a duplex outlet on the side to plug them in). IIRC, it had one transistor in there somewhere. So the ZV-1 is quite the step up.

This video is a couple months old now but I wanted to say that I was at first surprised in the low light test as the zv e10 clearly looks lower quality. I didn't know why this was the case as I'd suspect the next camera in line would stay the same if not improve. But then I noticed at 10:20 that the Soft skin effect was on in the zv e10 when it wasn't for the zv 1, so I would like to let that be known. As for which camera to buy, I'd say that unless if you need to have a camera that fits in your pocket to go with the e10, however if you already have a z1 the upgrade isn't really worth it unless you want to make use of the changeable lenses.

I picked up my ZV-E10 a couple of days ago and was super excited but bummed at the same time that the mic door rubber flap wouldn't stay closed. Is yours holding up ok? I was going to return it since things like that really irritate me but taking into account how long it took me to find one in stock, it going on a cage with an external mic anyway but just wanted to see if I'm just unlucky. I’ve been racking my brain to buy either one of the Sony‘s-ZV-1F, ZV-1, or the ZV-E10. I watched both of your videos that compare the ZV-1 to both of the other cameras, and it’s a clear decision that and it’s a clear and it’s a safe bet that the ZV-1 is the one I’m going to go with. I’m going to be filming more and I especially enjoyed the fact that the ZV-1 has the HFR slow motion feature. Also, it looks way more stabilized and the colors seems more rich in the ZV-1. So I appreciate this videos that you made and your channel. Instant subscribe. Thank you!

The interchangeability of lenses on the ZVE10 is for sure an advantage, but given the price of lenses, it could end costing much more in the medium/long run with defects we may have to bear for years... whereas the purchase of a better quality camera, apparently more expensive at first, would be more interesting in the medium/long run in terms of price and quality...

Great video as always! I'm a bit more interested in the ZV-E10 now when I see your footage, but it has too little to offer when comparing to the form factor and the convenience that the ZV-1 offers. I will stick with my ZV-1 a little bit longer. When smartphones beat the ZV-1 in image quality and include good picture profiles I will ditch the ZV-1 and the gimbal, all because of weight and space when I'm out biking.

Amazing video and keep up with the good work. I bought my ZV-E10 a week ago (body only) and paired it with a TAMRON 17-28mm f/2.8 and so far I love it. In my way of thinking and since I am going to invest in SONY ecosystem it seemed preferable to invest in a Full Frame lens, start growing up the collection and have a small entry level lens-switch body. My budget was marginal for either this setup and a RODE wireless GOII system or a SONY A7C body only. In my opinion I would rather have a capable setup that will provide the means to evolve than just to buy a comparable better body system and have to rent or lend lenses until I get the budget to get my own. I haven't worked with a ZV-1 and I am pretty sure its an amazing camera but since I am not in the run and gun approach and lenses matters to me I am happy with my choice. I wish we could all get our hands on our dream cameras but till then be happy with what you got or what you can get. Stay healthy and safe everybody.

I need the background to blur well to focus on the instrument. The camera will probably be one metre away from me in a 3m x 3m room. I have very little experience with professional cameras and don't want to spend big. Is the ZV1 the way to go? Or is there a specific affordable lens I could get along with the ZVE10 that will get me far superior results than the ZV1?? I will purchase some basic lighting gear as well.

While the ability of the ZV-E10 to use interchangeable lenses is a plus, the huge crop for stabilization virtually kills off that benefit. The ZV-1 has built-in ND and less of a crop for stabilization. As a filmmaker, you'd think the ZV-E10 would be the obvious choice. But, for me, my plans with either of these cameras is to use them for gimbal work, and RU-vid videos. On that factor alone, the ZV-1 wins. Excellent job on this comparison video.

From ages ago, I still have an RX100V and a NEX5R. The NEX5R always stayed at home and the RX100V was always with me... Also, on a crop sensor, you can't get very wide lenses - even the Samyang 12mm ends up at effectively 18.6mm. I can manage about that with the Ulanzi wide-angle/macro on the ZV-1 and skip the whole crop lens spiel... Granted, if you want a 100mm OSS lens, the e10 is your best buddy :D So I didn't find it worth while to buy the e10 and lenses for the crop factor format. Prefer the ZV-1 and A7SIII with the 14mm F1.8 GM. Both work well on the Ronin S2.

I was worried about "early adopter syndrome" when I bought my zv-1. I agree with a lot of the other comments that the video in some shots looks better, the stabilisation as well on the zv-1. I think the pics and the audio are so similar it's impossible to pick. The only thing the zv-e10 has as an "advantage" is the ability to change lenses, and if I was going to go there, I'm thinking the a7c is a better choice, but then again I'm years away from out growing the zv-1, so maybe an a7c II or III?

I love your thought process here. Yes I think you are spot on. Doesn’t the A7C have a full frame sensor?
@I.am.Bananaman
@I.am.Bananaman 2 года назад
@@thefilmalliance yes. If you really want to up grade to a lens system from the zv-1, then full frame seems the way to go, while maintaining the sony AF. If they up graded the a7C to 10 bit & gave it dual native iso (or did that for the expected a7 IV) that's the real jump to an "intermediate" lens system camera

@@I.am.Bananaman Can you explain to us what dual native ISO is and why it’s important compared to non dual ISO? Thanks in advance
@I.am.Bananaman
@I.am.Bananaman 2 года назад
@@thefilmalliance Native ISO is the best optimized ISO for low light, particularly for log gamma profiles. While Canon tends to be the Apple iPhone of digital cameras for the ease of use & "straight out of camera colour science", Canon as a brand also tend to produce a lot of really "fast" lenses. Sony on the other hand has focused on excellent low light capabilities of it's sensor. Sony has pushed the native iso in low light with log profiles higher, so that you can shoot in low light with less noise, and you don't need more expensive "fast" lenses, dual native iso simply has 2 sweet spots that do this. The best dual native iso example is the a7s iii, with 6400 & 12800 being native iso, and there are examples of people shooting at 6400 iso with a f4 lens (slog 2 or 3) and getting crystal clear results outside, in the evening with candles and yellowish deck lights. Now I hardly expect the next gen a7c to do that, but hey how about 1600 & 3200? The a7s iii & FX3 are still the low light kings for the semi pro & pro level youtubers/doco heads, but us amateurs wanting to get into a lens eco system have access to really good low light with excellent AF at an accessible price point

I have both cameras and the ZV1 is best for that stealth tourist look when you don't want to be noticed. The ZV-E10 is the far better camera simply because of lens choices but that is expensive. However while both cameras are excellent for shooting products, neither camera is a fun to use camera, and both are an ergonomic pain. I find that my old G9 is still my first choice most of the time because it feels good in the hand and has all sorts of video and photo features not available on the Sony cameras. However, after the sun goes down the lack of IBIS means the Sony cameras are poor performers while the incredible IBIS on the Panasonic reliably gets the shot. As a result I use the G9 90% of the time, and just use the little Sony's for those few times when they really are the best choice. Spending extra to get good IBIS is worth it in my book.
