This is the dasAvatAra stotram from Gita Govindam by Jayadeva swami - Krishna is not mentioned as one of the avatars because Jayadeva considers Him to be the original form who assumed other forms... "vedan uddharate" - The protector and upholder of Vedas (Matsya avatar) "jaganti vahate " - The one who supported the earth from below (when the Mandara Mountain was being churned) - Kurma avatar "bhu-golam udbibhrate" - The one who lifted the earth with ur tusks (Varaha avatar) "daityam darayate" - The one who ripped open daitya (son of Diti - hiranyakashipu) - narasimha avatar "balim chalayathe" - The one who removed bali from earth (by pushing him to pAtAL - Vamana Avatar) "kshatra-kshayam kurvate" - The one who was the reason (kurvate) for destruction of kshatriyas (kshatra kshyam) - Parasurama avatar "paulastyam jayate" - The one who defeated the son of Sage Pulastya (Ravana) - Rama Avatar halam kalayathe" - The one who weilded the hala ayudha (balarama avatar) "karunyam atanvate" - The one who diffused compassion to all (Buddha avatar) "mlecchan murchayate dasakrti-krte" - The one who will come as the tenth avatar to destroy mlechchas (adharmic individuals) - Kalki avatar "krsnaya tubhyam namah" - salutations to that One who is none other than Krishna!
I think the prayer sums up the ten avatars of Vishnu. The first line states that in order to rescue the Vedas from the cosmic deluge, Lord Vishnu took the avatar of a fish.
